I found this fairly quickly and it was an amazing choice. This place is located downtown and there so happened to be some type of even going on too. Parking was not horrible, as we parked in a lot that was around the corner. We had to order at the register and then someone would bring out the food. I ordered chicken and waffles for my kid and I (we each got an order of it). I got a side of bacon. The waffle was delicious! The chicken could've been seasoned a bit more, and the bacon could've been crispier but it was good. The Prices are GREAT and the staff were friendly. We were all satisfied.

We always try to support local whenever we can, especially when it's clear how much they care about being a quality place that is family friendly too! When you walk in you'll immediately notice the century old wooden floor, dark wood bar, and tin ceiling which literally set the stage for this delicious restaurant to be an experience you'll want to try. Rather than sitting down right away, head up to the cash register where you'll put in your order and they'll hand you a number so you can pick any table that's available. On nicer days, they even have a couple of outdoor tables that you can sit at directly in front. Most importantly though, their menu consist of tasty crafted dishes, sandwiches, and salads. Make sure to try out their breakfast items too as everything we've tried on the menu has been worthy of writing home about. I'd recommend their Spanish styled rice bowls, but dive in an try something you might not otherwise order as we'll do on our next visit! Guten Appetit!

A lot of cafes in and around the greater Asheville area have a similar vibe. Small, hip, no frills, friendly and welcoming. You'll notice all the framed rave reviews on the wall inside and the website boasts its 16 year reign as #1 restaurant in Brevard, and the menu definitely lives up. We started with the Bavarian Pretzel (which was actually recommended to us by the server at the chocolate shop across the alleyway.) It was very much the right way to go. The pretzel is adorned with several meats, slices of cheese, picked veggies (the pickled okra is amazing!) and some dipping sauces. You could come just for this, a few drinks and maybe another app and have a wonderful time! However you'd miss the delicious entrees. I got the Brunswick stew which was heavenly. My son loved his cedar plank salmon, said it was one of this favorite salmon preps he's ever had. The ambiance on the patio was pleasant with the hanging plants. The restaurant feels like a hidden gem as you have to travel one of the side alleys to find it. But locals seem to have no problem finding their award winning fave. If you're visiting town, this restaurant is definitely a winner. Plus there are some great shops to stroll nearby before or after.

For dinner I had the southwest blackened chicken Cobb salad which was very good as well. Prices were a little up there, but not too crazy. The restaurant was nicely appointed, comfortable and they have a separate room for their bar.

Lately, the only burgers I've been eating are double quarter pounders from McDonald's. I visited with my family and was surprised by how small and old-fashioned the bar looked. I'm not sure how old it is, but if they were going for an old-timey aesthetic, they nailed it. After a short wait, we were seated, and a waiter quickly took our order. I went with a patty melt, since it had been years, and added a side of fries, which weren't included but were hand-cut and prepared fresh daily. I checked the inside of the burger and noticed grill marks, which was promising since no gas was used. The burger had a charcoal flavor and was cooked perfectly to my preferred medium rare. The mayo had a nice zing, and the rye bread was high quality and toasted just right. The hand-cut fries, however, were a letdown as some were overcooked and a bit too oily. Overall, it was a good meal. I'd return to this place and try another burger, but I'd opt for a different side instead of the fries.

Everything I've ever eaten from here is so so good down home country cooking and great prices. The only complaint I have is that they aren't open for dinner. So if you want to eat here, get there before closin' time at 2pm. Recently I came with a friend and had fried pork chops. Now this place knows how to cook fried pork chops! So, I had to have them again. Yes! They are as good as the first time! The only restaurant in the area that I've really enjoyed them! The potato salad is (shhh) as hood as Momma's! Green beans are so good ( pretty sure there's some bacon grease in them, but that's the right way to cook 'em. And for goodness sake, the cornbread is really cornbread! None of those sweet corn muffins some places have the nerve to call cornbread. Yes, even with the throw away dishes, this is the place for country cooking!

Counter Service- this is obviously just my opinion- but when you have to order your food standing at a counter it should not be priced the same as it would be at a fine dining restaurant. Service- exceptional for what it was. Food- I ordered the French toast with cream cheese on the side and was told there was no way to put the cream cheese on the side because it was too hard, so I ordered it without cream cheese. When it arrived I was a little surprised to see one slice of French toast with some (very hot) berries on top. I could not tell you what the berries were because I could not see them in the dark establishment. While it tasted good, it was a disappointment that it was such a little portion for $14.
