Perfect after dinner dessert! We ate at down the hatch and as breakwall is connected to down the hatch we decided to give it a try. We did the three flavors and added the scoop of local ice cream plus a snow cap. A snow cap is a blend of evaporated milk and simple syrup usually. Amazing! If I wasn't pregnant this trip I would have tried the adult shave ice where there is alcohol in it. Next trip I will definitely try and report back! read more

As soon as my friends saw there was a spot that did alcoholic shave ice they wanted to try it. The original plan was to go to Down the Hatch and Breakwall Suave Ice but there was a HUGE line for Down the Hatch. This almost completely deterred us from both, but after peering downstairs we realized Breakwall barely had a line and we went down the second set of stairs to snag a spot in line for shave ice. Another downside of the location that we learned really quickly is that they're right next to the bathroom, so the foot traffic cuts through while you're in line and waiting on your shave ice. Definitely don't zone out or take too many pictures, you're going to be in the way. Back to the food though, they have regular shave ice, alcoholic adult shave ice, açaí bowls, smoothies and shakes, cold brew and even dole whip and giant pretzels. While they don't have as many flavors to choose from as other places, the ones they have a tasty and they give a great amount of syrup so you don't have plain ice spots. My friends ordered the strawberry guava daiquiri and we ordered the Mojito float and both were good. I thought the addition is soft serve in the bottom of ours elevated it and you definitely could tell they were cocktail flavors and not just regular shave ice. My friends and I had our first round of shaved ice here and it was a great introduction! The young guy behind the counter was kind and knowledgeable--he answered our questions and made helpful suggestions on flavors and toppings. The spot was in the center of a plaza of other restaurants and shops--had a busy feel, but it was nice. The shop itself wasn't busy that night, so we were served pretty fast. My wife had a mix of Guava-Strawberry, Piña Colada and Coconut with a "Creamy Snowcap." I had a mix of Guava-Strawberry, Mango, and Wild Cherry. Side Note: I would have given this place a 5 star rating had it not been for the guy who took 35 minutes to make a handful of shave ice. There were only two people in front of me but it took over half and hour and they only had 2 and 2 orders. Then, he made mine with the incorrect flavors and remade it incorrectly again. I was so over the situation I ate my shave ice with the incorrect flavors. They need a second person to help if the person working is new and or that slow. The other people around me were like, what is going on?! Some people left the line it was ridiculous. Aside from all of that the shave ice itself was pretty good. Flavors were better than Ululani's. I only mention that place because everyone seems to compare everything to Ululani's. Their Watermelon flavor was the best watermelon flavor I have ever had. The adult shaved ice was fun to try. We got a strawberry guava daiquiri and a mudslide shaved ice. All the flavors of the strawberry guava were from real fruit juice and fruit purees. The mudslide had everything in a traditional mudslide plus a generous portion ice cream. The mudslide was rich and chocolately. But it had a huge line so I'm happy that we got to try Breakwall which had no line. My husband and I shared the small size and got 3 of the natural flavors for $1 more - strawberry guava, dragonfruit, and lilikoi passion fruit. We liked the flavors in the order listed. We had to ask for the condensed milk because they forgot. Towards the bottom it was too sweet so we didn't finish the entire thing. Came here last night as it was just so hot & humid outside, shave ice was just what we needed. Walked by our usual stop Ululani's first but the line was crazy long, so we decided to give this place a try. Walked up to just 2 parties in front of us, perfect! Looking over the flavors, nothing really caught my eye with some being confusing, like "Hello Kitty & Hulk", what flavors are those? I like the really tart flavors, so limeade & lemonade caught my eye, until we saw that there was an upcharge of almost a dollar more. I did like though that they offered 4 sizes, which if you're still pretty full from dinner, the keiki is the perfect size. I got the watermelon, strawberry, & lime & li hing powder for the top & my parents got a large with strawberry, lime, & green apple. I originally would've liked li hing mui as a flavor, but didn't know that was an option until I got up to the front & the girl asked if I wanted the flavor or the powder, which at that point I didn't want to confuse anyone, so I just stuck with my original. However, that then made me think what other flavors am I missing out on that aren't on the menu. Service was good & our shave ice was made very quickly. It did hit the spot as we are a bit sweaty from walking around front street. All the flavors were good, however you could tell they were artificial. Prices were a bit steep at close to $10.50 for 2 artificially flavored shave ice. Not sure if they offer kamaaina as we usually don't ask about stuff like that. Came by to try this place because we were given a coupon. It was a good shave ice, not a homerun, but it was good. I really wanted to like it a lot, but something was missing, maybe because I felt very claustrophobic. The location in a food court at the Wharf Cinema Mall, lower level, and sharing space with a restaurant made me feel cramped for space & perhaps attributed to my not throughly enjoying my shave ice experience. They offer have lots of flavors, all do it yourself flavor creations--up to 3 flavors, but for their premium (natural) flavors, they charge $1 extra, which is made from juice and not a syrup. They also offer several ice cream flavors or gummy bears for the bottom as extra add ons. There are 4 sizes to choose from...kid size, small, large and humongous (and it is a super-sized) The one thing different about this place is that they are one of the few places to offer "adult" shave ice that contains alcohol. I have not come across any other place like that, but the only caveat is that you must consume the adult shave ice on the premise. Finally, it is awesome that they use paper straws! I think the only reason for my visiting Lahaina is to walk around the quaint historic waterfront and get shaved ice. The place I got ice before is gone and now a Mexican restaurant so I tried this place which essentially is in a food court and mall. There are a ton of flavors and I opted for two tropical- pineapple and coconut on a base of vanilla ice cream. YUM! The medium one was huge and I enormously enjoyed it. I got the pina colada adult shave ice & my husband got the brazilero acai bowl, which came out to around $16 after the discount. Not bad! The pina colada shave ice comes with light rum, coconut ice cream on the bottom, coconut shavings, & a snowcap. The light rum was more like A LOT of rum and that's all I could really taste. I wouldn't normally complain that I wasn't shorted on the alcohol, but it was so overpowering. I even tried mixing it around like a normal slushy pina colada. Nope. I decided to just eat all the ice cream instead. Lol. I was sad. I really wanted to like it. Maybe it was just a fluke & I need to come around again or try a different flavor. So sweet that I am glad I discovered it early enough so I could return 2 more times during our stay and recommended it to about 10 other people before we left. A bit rushed with what to choose the first time around, I got the pina colada which is good but found the coconut shavings topping was a bit too overwhelming. More prepared the second time around, I went for the mai tai one and that is a winner folks!! I stopped by here this past Wednesday evening with my wife. Breakwall's is a shaved ice restaurant that is part of the Down The Hatch restaurant. We had actually been eyeing up this place since we learned that they served adult shave ice. Unfortunately we ending up getting a free regular shaved ice when purchasing an entree at Down The Hatch and so didn't try their adult stuff. Breakwell's is located next to Down The hatch on the bottom level of the Wharf Cinema Center Shops right on Front St in Lahaina. Since it's located in the mall it's tables are amongst the "river" that flows through it. For our shave ice on this day my wife and I went with the coconut and lilikoi shave ice on top of Mac nut ice cream. The shave ice was nice and thin here and had a good consistency that held the syrups well. Speaking of the syrups, they were made of real fruit and delicious. This means that the coconut was nice and creamy while the lilikoi had that nice sharpness to it that I love. Last but certainly not least was the Mac nut ice cream which was creamy and delicious. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While it was the adult shave ice that brought our attention to Breakwall, it was the natural flavor syrups that made us really enjoy it. read more
