Eh, meh, nah. If you want a decent breakfast but mediocre service then this is the place for you. 3rd time here, Maybe service was bad the first two times because it was crazy busy: Goods: We were seated quickly bc it was brunch time on a THURSDAY so light crowd. Bads: Server had a smile but she spent more time fraternizing than checking on us to ensure accuracy of order and satisfaction. Eggs were scrambled super hard and slightly burnt. I won't eat browned scramble eggs. None of the guest around me with scrambled eggs were hard so maybe that's my fault for spectator ordering, not specifying scramble temp or knowing that I wouldn't get perfectly scrambled eggs. I could also be pickier about eggs since I generally and primarily eat egg whites. Choose this spot if you must but I can give you 3 visits and reasons why I won't do it again. read more

Waited an hour on a Sunday morning to be seated at Breakfast Republic. The food and service was good and we didn't feel rushed at all. We actually ended up flagging down our waitress for our bill. I ordered the breakfast Sammie and asked for a lemon pancake on the side instead of the potatoes. They forgot my request so I brought home more leftovers than planned since the meal came with nearly a whole plate of potatoes and then they gave me a side of two lemon pancakes. My friend ordered the Chilaquiles, which were mild and not spicy at all. Overall it was a typical brunch spot, not exceedingly exciting. It might be more exciting inside, but we sat outside so there wasn't much ambiance, just a TON of birds stealing Splenda packets and food and flying away. read more

This place is my favorite brunch spot in Orange County. Their breakfast items are so unique and interesting and I love their rotating specialty menu. It's hard to not like this spot since the service is very quick and fast and the food is always consistently good. Their eggs Benedict's are amazing as well and their hollandaise sauce is very rich and decadent. It's always fun brunching here since there's always something new/different to try. read more

French toast cravings? Check. Shrimp and grits? Check. Buttermilk pancakes? Check. Everything we ordered was delicious and fairly priced for the quality, quantity, taste, ambiance, and location. This location is right next to the Trader Joe's in the University Town Center across from UC Irvine and it is a hip breakfast/brunch place that has nice modern/rustic/farmhouse decor which I love! Menu is bright and clear with many options to choose from. We ordered: Jurassic Pork bacon $5, side of Mr. Presley french toast $6, side of Strawberry Mascarpone french toast $6, Shrimp and Grits $15, side of Buttermilk Pancake $3, and a Breakfast Republic Coffee $3.50. Everything we ordered was again, delicious but the most notable one's were Shrimp and Grits - so so good! The grits were flavorful, shrimps were succulent, and the eggs were done just the way we like it. For $15, I wish it came with a side of toast or buttermilk pancake, but I would order this again. This was easily enough to share if you add a side of pancake like we did. I loved both of the french toast wr ordered, but like another Yelper mentioned before, there was hardly any mascarpone in between the french toast for the Strawberry one. It looked like less than a tablespoon was in there and it was all melted away, I think it would have been better if the mascarpone was cold and fluffy like inside a tiramisu dessert. Mr. Presley was definitely a heavier French toast and I loved all of the combination of flavors (peanut butter, maple syrup, bananas, and bacon)! I would order both of these french toast again. For $6 side order, you get one piece of toast rather than two when you order a full order - worth it because I didn't want to order the french toast flight for $18 that comes with three... too much food for me. The Jurassic Pork bacon was good, but I don't think it's worth $5 to order on the side given the amount you get... could have used another slice :) My hubby and I were thoroughly surprised by how much we liked this place and will definitely be back again! read more

Great food, service, and ambiance. Gloria is an absolute sweetheart and Dylan was an awesome help. My girlfriend and I have been twice and we love it as our near-campus, Saturday morning breakfast spot. Definitely check it out! read more

They are located in the heart of UCI country so you know it's going to be a "country minute" wait for a Saturday morning brunch. Fortunately, they are in a nice plaza where we could explore other eating and drinking opportunities along with Trader Joe's while we waited. It took around 35 plus minutes. HOT COFFEE: -- super smooth -- quality -- tasty -- comes with half/half -- not enough sugar in the raw packets on table and too many artificial sweeteners (they were out of the nitro cold brew coffee which was a bummer) STEAK AND EGGS: -- perfectly cooked medium rare skirt steak -- high quality tasty steak -- delicious creamy chimichurri sauce (not the oily style which is also good) -- BACON HASH BROWNS were next level on moisture plus texture plus flavor -- opted for the wheat toast with soft creamy butter and not sure if the berry jam was raspberry or blackberry? not sure -- over easy eggs my choice (wife got the same and loved it...she may go bowl version next time which may speak to her palette even more) read more

Breakfast Republic - mom, "what's anal?" not the convo I wanted to have at brunch w my fam - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Irvine, California

1. Food Not great, not horrible. Food wasn't hot, potatoes were cold and dry. Potatoes were definitely sitting there for a while. My friend got the Omelette, and it had egg juice coming out of it, and can taste the canola oil. My breakfast burrito with skirt steak, barely had any steak in it. We left the potatoes for the birds, as they were all over the place trying to pick left over food. 2. Cleanliness Ketchup bottle was grimey, I don't think they wipe it throughout the day. Server wasn't attentive enough (never came to check on us) for us to get the napkin 3. Service Nice people, but they don't have any serving fundamentals down. We waited about 15 minutes at the table before the server even asked us what we wanted for our drinks. Then when the food came out, we had no utensils. I asked the guy who gave us the food for utensils, which still didn't come. Then I had to call the waiter up for utensils. Clean up customers food after they leave, then first thing out utensils down for the next customer. Or at least make sure there are utensils before you seat anyone. Dennys have better service lol. Don't come here expecting great service or food. Also don't come here for a date either. Dirty, cramped, waiting, plates falling down and breaking. Will never be coming back. read more

Breakfast Republic - Bloody marry - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Irvine, California

I posted a review right when they opened and gave them a three out of five stars. I mentioned that opening jitters and unease can cause problems and I was excited to see how the restaurant matured. It's been years since then and I have dined here a handful of times. EVERY one of those times has been a bad experience. Opening jitters can't explain it anymore. Unfriendly hosts that quote you a fifteen minute wait only to see it's really 45 minutes to an hour. Servers who are cold and lackadaisical in their duties. Hygiene issues with cook staff and tables. The only reason why this review has 1 star is that: First, you can't give a 0 stars on Yelp and, second, the food is decent. However, the decent cuisine doesn't make up for all the other flaws of the BR. I would advise you skip the Breakfast Republic. That way you can actually enjoy some of your day. read more

A handful of good vegan options!!! I love breakfast foods but I struggle to find breakfast options as a vegan. First time here, came in around 8 am and there was only one server working. I ordered the tostadas and they were good!! But I felt bad for the server. Everything took awhile but I understood because she was alone. Seems strange that only one person was working when there were a good amount of people for a Tuesday morning. Even though service was slow it was great and I'd come back again. The decor was cute and overall ambiance was great read more

This place is by far one of the cutest breakfast spots I've ever been to! The attention to detail from the napkins, to the to-go coffee cups, to the art on the wall drawn on big rounds of paper, to the plates the food came on was absolutely perfect. Not only was there a ton of gluten free options but the flavor was amazing. Every bite, every sip, everything I touched or saw was a little piece of magic and a fun surprise. My mom and I smiled the entire time we were there! The service was also incredible, everyone was so nice, with great humor. I absolutely had to tell the manager just how happy that meal made us, from the food down to the notes on the napkins. 100% we'll be back! read more

Gloria was wonderful and so attentive! Not only is the food amazing, high quality, and great ingredients, but there are plenty of healthy options. The protein pancakes were very great also. And I love the interior design! If I had to be honest, I would go back just to see Gloria, she was the real star. She is very warm, kind, and full of joy! You can tell that she loves what she does. My friend and I came for brunch and were seated quite quickly. There was seating both inside and outside, and we opted for outside since the weather was really nice. The service was fine, our server checked in a few times, asked us if we needed anything else, etc. The food itself was not good. I've gotten breakfast burritos from plenty of breakfast places before and this just wasn't good. It had little substance and lacked flavor as well. It wasn't the worst breakfast burrito I've had, but it's not one I'd be coming back for. I was also really excited about the horchata cold brew but it was very very watered down and had only the faintest horchata flavor if you really tried to find it. Overall, I love trying new breakfast places, but this was a very sad miss for me (and I had such hopes since it's so close to me!). read more

I've had breakfast here in multiple occasions. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. We usually get their breakfast burrito and pancake. This time, instead of burritos, i tried their breakfast jambalaya. It's delicious. It has the right level of spice, it has good amount of shrimp and sausages. It's basically jambalaya with 2 eggs on top and you can have it cooked however you want. we had the usual mix&match pancakes. Tried different combo everytime and it's always good. We were very disappointed. We were expecting a breakfast specialty restaurant. We ordered a simple meal of three eggs over easy, potatoes, ham, and sourdough toast. The eggs were overdone, the potatoes were cold and dry, the ham was dry and the small piece of sourdough toast cut in half was underwhelming. Do not recommend. read more

Who says you need bottomless mimosas in order to have a good brunch? My friends and I came here around 12pm on a Sunday. We must've been very lucky as despite the many reviews indicating the crazy wait times, we only waited about 20 minutes. There's no yelp check in option but they do put your name and number on the list and they'll text you when your table is ready, which is still way better than waiting in front of the restaurant for your name to be called. They have a LOT of food to choose from and I was so excited for my friends and I to actually share them because I couldn't settle on just one! For starters, their drink menu is great! If I wasn't coerced into having mimosas, I definitely would've opted for their kombucha. (They lose a star from me on account of saying that their house made Prosecco would not give us a headache but the headache was definitely there.) $30 gets you a bottle of their Prosecco on ice with a carafe of orange juice. It's enough to fill 5 flutes if you're being generous. As for the entrees, I opted for the French toast sampler which is ideally for 2 people set at $18. We ordered the banana split, strawberries and mascarpone, and Mrs. Presley. The banana split was absolutely amazing, the strawberries were so bland that I doubt I'd order this again, and the Mrs. Presley was also quite delicious albeit I don't actually like peanut butter very much. I got to share the breakfast jambalaya bowl with my boyfriend and oh man was it just to die for! It's a bit steep at $16 but it also comes with 3 eggs cooked to your preference. We chose eggs over easy to let the yolk run all over our rice, YUM! Our friends ordered the mushroom and pesto eggs Benedict (also very much enjoyed) and the pancake flight which included the Oreo pancake and two others I can't recall. Overall, I actually loved the extensive menu and definitely plan on returning in order to try more. Thanks for making breakfast worth eating again! (95/100--2019) read more

After calling and speaking with a manager they resolved this issue, I updated my review based on the food I received, the service however was great. After waiting the hour wait time. we received our food and all of the sides were cold. When we told them about this they offered us a free dessert which we didn't really want but accepted because we were told it was the only thing they could do. We paid and left. later on I realized they still charged us for the dessert which was a gross coffee cake that tasted stale. Wouldn't recommend this place not worth the hour wait. The food was cold and food you could get anywhere else, it was also weird that they paired seafood with a sweet jam on the crab Benedict? Also my receipt didn't add up? I don't understand how the total of the items is more then the total at the bottom. read more

Probably the worst service I've experienced in some time. The young lady server should not be working in this role. The only thing she got right was bringing the correct order (a different lady placed the order). I knew things were a bit off from the get-go when we asked her (the server) for a coloring set for my son, she made it seem like it was iffy if they had anything. Lucky for us they had a kids coloring set that she was able to find. That ends all the good parts of her service. We asked for a small plate for my son. Nothing We were never brought any refills on my coffee or water for my family Never checked in on if we needed anything aside from the food yup. Thats the total interaction between ordering and the bill. Once the bill was paid for, I asked for a refill on the coffee and boxes. The box came. No coffee. no refill was ever brought. she seemed have a grand old time in the back of the restaurant looking busy. After 15 minutes. a nice young man who was waiting tables in the patio stopped to ask me if I needed anything. I asked for a coffee and he got it for me to go, right away. Super great service and my son really liked him as well. Great personality. I wish all the staff were like him. The food was meh. My son liked the mac and cheese (hence the 2 stars, its really hard to mess up mac and cheese for 3yr old tastebuds, but what do I know). My wife did not like her chilaquiles. Chips were soggy and the beans not seasoned. My chicken sausage omelet was decent. nothing amazing. My coffee was actually quite good. Aside from that, I don't understand all the stars. Between the wait time to get seated and the service worthy of a 1980's Soviet era restaurant, to the mediocre food. Not worth the high accolades. Ambiance was too loud. I understand the clean aesthetic with the cement floors but playing loud music and cement floors = too loud. Will not ever come back. read more

I really really love Breakfast Republic and I have been coming here forever! This past experience was very strange though... The food (as always) was amazing Mr. Presley and any of the Benedicts are always a go-to and I love love love their potatoes!!! Myself and my husband ordered 2 Breakfast Republic lattes and my husband asked for his with oat milk. The bartender who dropped them off put both in the center of the table and non-descriptively said "2 Breakfast Republic lattes". It wasn't a big deal for us if they forgot to modify the drink but I did ask the waiter if he could take the extra charge off the check as I didn't want to pay for something we didn't get. He then walked away from the table to get a straw TO DRINK MY DRINK. Thank goodness my husband covered the beverages before he was able to and told the waiter absolutely not or I might have had a heart attack at the table. I'm not sure when this became an acceptable thing to do... BUT IT IS NOT! It's truly disgusting and incredibly unprofessional. Not only does it send the message that you think I'm a liar or trying to get something for free but it's also super gross to drink out of someone else's drink. read more

Disappointing. The wait is absolutely ridiculous and then you get seated and you keep waiting. Plenty of empty tables, with plenty of servers. Not, Not kid friendly. No kids menu, no booster seats, one high chair, and no kid size portions. Finally get the order placed and let's keep waiting for the food. It felt like we had to wait like pouring thick molasses onto your pancakes on a very cold day. The cappuccinos were both good but it came to us like two minutes before our food arrived. The pancake batter is not impressive. The toast you get with your omelette is one slice cut in half. The breakfast potatoes were delicious, generous portion, and not greasy. As others have noted, the parking is complicated with 30 minutes and 2 hours parking options. So read carefully and note the time. Honestly, with so many great breakfast restaurants that have no parking issues and shorter wait times, this place is really not appealing. read more

Worth the try: upgraded potatoes Portuguese Linguisa Sausage Scramble: scrambled eggs mixed with bacon, bell peppers, tomatoes, herbs, hot sauce. Hefty portion served with bread, jam, butter, and potatoes. TIP: upgrade your potatoes to add roasted Brussels sprouts, balsamic vinegar, bacon. The balsamic flavor is the star of this side! Pancake Flight: your choice of 3 flavors. I went with bacon, Oreo, and strawberry cheesecake. Served with a cute syrup dispenser shaped like a chicken. Pancakes are pretty dry and lackluster, wouldn't recommend. Got my weekend brunch fix at this cute spot in Irvine. No reservations, WALKENS only (as you'll see up front), so come early. We arrived around 10 AM and there was already a long wait. The entire atmosphere is cute and themed with your typical brunch dishes. Nothing exceptionally spectacular about the food, but their shirts say "resting brunch face," and I always appreciate a good laugh. read more

I've come to this place multiple times hoping that their service and food would somehow improve. Today was another disappointing breakfast. Our food was cold and bland. Our server (Oscar) would disappear unless you flagged him down. Then he decided to move our umbrella without asking us to accommodate another table. When I told him he was putting us in the sun he just said I moved it back to where it was and walked away. To expect a 20% or higher tip for substandard service and food has become the norm here. It's really sad to see how the US has changed and how restaurant owners/managers don't care anymore. We definitely won't be back. Plum Cafe is way better in every way. read more

FOOD was great - had the Portuguese sausage omelette. Well prepared, nice flavor Unfortunately, potatoes and toast (were from yesterday ?) - both were dry, cold and obviously not prepared recently. We have been here a few times, but this Sunday, we visited in the early morning. There are no reservations, walk-ups only, and we opted to sit on the patio for a group of 4. We were seated quickly but noticed that by 9 am they had gone on a wait. I don't know if it is because we sat on the patio or they had started to get busy, but the service was awful. We ordered a mix of bloody Mary's, coffees, and breakfast cocktails, and the drinks were great, and the coffee mugs were nice and big. However, our waitress never came by to refill the coffee despite us asking her twice and a server assistant. We ended up just walking over to the makeshift server station on the patio and pouring it ourselves from the carafes they had there. I normally wouldn't have really minded this but we were there with my parents and didn't like that they had to keep getting up to get coffee, a to-go box, napkins, and silverware all because our server never came by. We got omelets, sammys, yogurt, and a few other items. The best thing, in my opinion, was the ginger coffee cake, which was made in-house and was amazing! Our second round of drinks was also great, including a breakfast mule, all of which we had to go up to the bar to order since our waitress never came by after the food was dropped. She did come right over to drop the check and hovered behind us waiting, which I thought was awkward, but I understand the toast handhelds kind of require this. Overall, we probably won't be back; there are too many good brunch places not to get good service. read more

Honestly, this place felt so over-hyped for breakfast and my boyfriend and I were not impressed. We arrived on Saturday around noon and the wait was an hour to get seated! Luckily, it's located in UTC so there's plenty to see/do while you wait. In our case, we went to ShareTea since we were starving, but wanted something light to hold ourselves over before our lunch. It did just the trick and we were seated in the patio under a red umbrella. It covered about half our table, but we made it work. It seemed like everyone raved about their pancakes and breakfast burrito on social and on Yelp, so I figured I would try one of the popular selections. I got the breakfast burrito and the bf got the steak & eggs skillet. My California breakfast burrito was super bland and no matter how much hot sauce or salsa I doused on top, it didn't elevate any flavors. The black beans were quite tasty, but I didn't pay for a meal to have one really good side, ya know? Boyfriend got the steak n eggs and felt it was bit lackluster as well. However, he's pretty picky about his meat so I'll give it a pass. I noticed a ton of tables opted into the pancake flight, so maybe that's what they are popularly known for and people raved out. So, I found it unfortunate that everything else didn't live up to that same excitement. read more
