It was our mistake that we did not review the yelp before we came yesterday morning. Waiting 15 minutes to be seated (which plenty of empty tables), table and booster were sticky and dirty. Waiting another 10 minutes for someone took the orders. Ordered Jurassic bloody Mary, the server brought out one without the Jurassic bacon with the excuse that they didn't have any at that moment. When we almost finished our meal, the Jurassic bacon came out on a bath of grease for the drink???? The worse part was: when we asked for the check and gave a credit card to the server, not even a minute, she got back asked if we have another the form of payment, the CC was declined??? But she look toward at my son instead of me (I gave her my card, later we checked with the bank, the bank told us no one had run my card yet???) I had cash and I gave the server $60 which the bill was $43.10, she then asked me right away that "do I need change back?" with a very disappointed face??? I said Yes, I wondered what was she thinking??? 38% tips for waiting, seating on dirty bench and did not get the right drink??? Not talking that she brought back change $16 and told us she had to wait for her manager get change of .90cent??? So, should we seat there and waiting for .90cent??? they even over charged the Jurassic bloody Mary, it should be $12, she run up Bloody Maria $11, then Jurassic for $2 more??? What a disappointment! Based on reviews we went there. 10am. Weekday. It was not busy. Plenty of empty tables inside and outside! but wouldn't seat anyone because they said they have a lack of waiters. This isn't rocket science. Good managers solve problems. 4 months later - tried this place again. Same story. Massive amounts of empty tables and told to wait for 15 minutes. The reason - not enough employees. And you are next to a college campus. Replace the manager with someone competent in hiring. I'm not sure who owns this place but the manager is costing them big time. Too bad. As much as I wanted this to be our new breakfast place ... it just can't be. We have come three Sunday's in a row hoping things would be better. Week one - seated and took almost an hour to get our food. Understanding that someone called in sick. But by the time we received our food it was cold and just kind of "meh" Week two - we both ordered eggs Benedict and both orders had hard boiled eggs versus poached. It was corrected, but by the time we got new eggs everything else was cold. Week three - once again staffing issues. Instead of waiting inside this time, we waited outside as they slowly filled the restaurant... perfectly logical. Service started spot on ... quick coffee and food delivery. This time, they forgot to bring my wife's toast ... after having to basically beg for toast, it finally arrived (one piece and dry with no butter to be found). I did a weekend getaway in Newport Beach was looking for a delicious brunch place, and the menu for this place looked amazing. Very unique breakfast dishes. I ordered 2 dishes- french toast and the turkey meatloaf hash- and I loved the french toast. However, the hash was one of the worst breakfast dishes I have ever had. It was all pesto with a touch of other ingredients and just a big mess. We unfortunately got takeout, otherwise I would have sent the dish back. Food is amazing !! Everything I order is insanely yummy! Only problem is outside dinning has a team of 10 birds stealing everyone's food. The birds jump all over the tables, chairs and eat off your plate if you stand up or look the other way. Everyone sitting outside is uncomfortable the entire time because of these birds. The city of Irvine must find out this is a health code violation. Bird poop is all over the ground, chairs, tables and shades. Breakfast republic must take action soon against these birds. Found it ironic that the hostess was wearing a shirt with big letters spelling out "hospitality" to then be greeted with nothing more than a half-hearted "what's your name." Not asking for or expecting an entourage to greet me, but in the business of people pleasing, a genuine "Hi. How are you today?" will suffice. Horrible experience. Wrong item was brought and they forgot my companion item completely. My side was specific with just Brussels sprouts and they had paired my side with his scramble and I unknowingly consumed his entree (I am currently on a strict no sugar diet and his entree had brown sugar coated bacon). We did not realize my entree was incorrect until my companion asked where his entree was. That's when the waiter pointed at my entree and stated that's the the protein lover. I stopped eating completely. The waiter apologized and said he would fix the orders. (Mistakes happens-I get it). My new entree comes out but at this point I'm no longer hungry and again they forgot my companions meal completely! So we wait again and at this point we have been here for 90 minutes and he just got his entree. P.s. double check your celery was properly washed because ours were not. They have consistently bad service here, service so bad that despite being the only decent breakfast spot in the area we aren't interested in going back. The wait staff takes a long time to capture orders and an even longer time to provide the check, long after you've finished your drink or meal. We've tried a few different times of day and days of the week and the operations are just not adequate across the board. It really hurts my heart to write this review because I love the Costa Mesa location and have had some great experiences there. I'm giving this location two stars based ONLY on the quality of the food (which was delicious.) However, service was atrocious: while I was seated quickly and my server was pleasant, after he gave me my iced latte he completely disappeared. I was never checked on once I got my meal, I had to ask for silverware (of which they were out) and I had to get up and get my own napkins and condiments. I'm actually writing this while still at the restaurant; I finished eating at least five minutes ago and I still need to be given my check. I think my server clocked out and didn't tell me/anyone, to be honest. The waitstaff is nowhere near as friendly or polite as at the other location. I'm really bummed out because I was hoping to have a nice brunch to start the weekend and I just feel let down. I'd recommend the Costa Mesa location over this one, 100% Also, there was a cricket or cockroach crawling on the bench booth between myself and the next diner. It doesn't freak me out because they leave the door open, but it's not a good look for any place tbh. read more

I wish I remembered my waitresses name she was hustling like no other she she got all the orders right and probably with a smile on her face. I couldn't tell she had a mask on, but she was super sweet and very attentive the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that I found out later from the person who paid that there was a service charge. We didn't see anything on the menu that said there would be one seems pretty sneaky to me. Can you just let us know when you're charging extra had I seen that I would've fought it but knowing me the way my daughter does she didn't tell me for that exact reason I know costs are going up but sneaky is never good. After the first I put my arm down next to the plate to remove his landing spot. So the bird just landed on my arm to pilfer my breakfast once again. After reading the reviews, we decided to come here for lunch. The restaurant is big, but not very large. True to its name, the decorations are all breakfast themed, with lights modeled after whisks hanging from the ceiling and the wall. Next to the entrance is a tall shelf with merchandise that you can purchase. Special breakfast items are also written on butcher paper that's attached to the leftmost wall. However, you have to walk further in to see it due to the wall of leafy vines that's blocking it from sight. Towards the back of the restaurant is a large bar, which was filled with people when we went. The drink menu is directly above the bar and is a long chalkboard with large white writing on it. The restaurant is also filled with tables, with booths positioned along the walls and regular tables with chairs positioned in the middle area. When we checked in, it was a 15 minute wait. So, we gave our number while we waited. After about 10 minutes, the hostess asked if we wanted to sit at the bar because there were seatings there. We sat and waited for 5 minutes and no one greeted us nor gave us a menu. I saw that there were tables opening up and asked if we could sit at a table instead. The place is frenzied and harried. They only have one busboy clearing up the tables. After we sat down at the table, we waited another 5 minutes for the server (Alondra) to greet us and take our orders. My daughter ordered the Shrimp and Grits Breakfast, which was gouda cheese infused grits and shrimp cooked with hot sauce, fresh sweet corn and chives, served with 3 over easy eggs. I had the Pancakes Flight of 3, which was a choice of 3 pancakes. I chose Buttermilk, Strawberry Cheesecake and Pineapple Upside Down pancakes. Hubs had Mushroom 'N' Pesto Benedict, which was button and oyster mushrooms with red bell pepper, spinach and pesto sauce with poached eggs served over sourdough english muffin, topped with gluten-free hollandaise sauce with a side of potatoes. Daughter loved her Shrimp and Grits Breakfast a lot. She loved the spiciness and how the grits were nice and soft and infused with everything. I loved my pancakes and thought they were all nice and fluffy. My favorite was the buttermilk pancake. Hubs thought that his entree was short of mushroom but it wasn't bad. His potatoes got cold in a hurry, though. As I said above, I thought the service was a bit harried. The servers were all over the place and seemed disorganized. When we got our meals, the pancakes and benedict came out first but the shrimp and grits came out 10 minutes later. We had to ask the server for it. We never got our utensils until way after our meals. Funny thing though, daughter ordered her breakfast and asked if they can speed it up because she was running low on blood sugar because of her diabetes and Alondra said she couldn't rush the people in the kitchen. So, her meal came a lot later than ours. Not much sympathy there. Also, we ordered coffee and daughter had hot tea. It turned out her tea cup wasn't clean and had to get another one. Food was great but I definitely didn't like the service. If I want my daughter to pass out from low blood sugar, this would be the place to go. Glad I got to try this place, though. The plate was drenched with cheese with the exception of the beshamel that i got on the side since i was hoping to avoid a drenched plate. the beshamel was cold so i didn't use it as a sauce. the taste of the dish was fine. i upgraded the potatoes to veggies ye the server told me i would be getting completely different veggies (spinach and broccoli) and I ended up with what was a mushroom medley (do not like mushrooms!) I wish so much I could give a good review. But each time we try this place, it gets a bit worse. I think mostly staffing issues. This am, I asked for toast with my eggs and after a long wait I got one piece (for 3 eggs) so I asked for another order of toast and nothing. I basically didn't eat my breakfast. (I explained I don't eat the eggs without toast) Also the bottomless coffee is awesome but if you don't refill it or even ask, what good is that? I'm just super disappointed because we just moved here and it's a super convenient location. I hope so much they get it together and soon :( the staff it very nice though. read more
