I'm a little afraid to write a great review, because this place will start to have massive lines, as it deserves in Chicago's brunch crazy self. Great service, fast, not overbearing, attentive on the coffee, and helpful with recommendations. They're everywhere without seeming so. Tiny place, so cozy atmosphere - they do have a counter, and some outdoor seating, but certainly not an enormous place - it will always seem intimate. Food was excellent. Had the chicken and waffles, and tried the chilaquiles and the fruit baked french toast. The french toast was a bit bland, but some syrup helped. everything else was incredible. I love this place, the staff is always friendly. I've been going to Breakfast House for 6 years now, for lunch and breakfast options. I have taken family and friends who are always impressed by the freshness and quality of food. If you are in a hurry for lunch it may not be the best place as they aren't a fast food kind of place but the wait (for the few times we have waiting) was totally worth it! We stopped in yesterday for brunch with some friends. This place has a cool neighborhood vibe. I had the chorizo hash which was excellent. The potatoes were crispy and cooked in bacon (super yummy). My hubby had the crepes which were flavorful but more the consistency of pancakes than crepes. The portions were perfect. If you are a coffee snob this isn't the place for you. Our service was great. What a hidden gem this place is! I had the Breakfast House Hash here on my first visit. Delicious!! The dish really does have a distinct home cooked taste and feel. The potatoes were seasoned just right, the andouille sausage blended perfectly with the chicken sausage, and the poached eggs tasted just as good as they looked on the plate! Went to Breakfast House this past Saturday for some good old fashioned brunch. The menu is somewhat limited, but there's nothing on it that wouldn't satisfy you. I had the house hash. It was delicious. My roommate got some OJ with his meal and you could tell that the last container juice touched before hitting the glass was it's own skin. Very fresh juice. The menu items have a Mexican twist, which fits the area well. Prices are average, about $9 for a meal. Service was great, they were very attentive. Made reservations for 10 people for 11a on a Sunday, when I called I told them it was for a business meeting. This was my first time there, as well as my guests. Everything was smooth from the beginning, food was good and so was the service. At about 1p our server told us we had to leave because we had been there for two hours. We weren't loud or obnoxious, I just think they wanted our table. I felt bad thinking there would be a line out the door but there were only three people waiting. I've never been asked to leave a restaurant before even when I didn't tip 20%. This just left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll be back. read more

Standard breakfast spot. Was able to walk in on a Sunday morning and get sat which is almost impossible in the city. Unfortunately I was eating healthy at the time, so just got the spinach salad with vinaigrette dressing. The mushrooms were very good, salad was fresh and what I expected. Classy diner in West Town. We tried the fried chicken and waffles and the chilaquiles. Portions for both were massive. As we checked out what nearby tables ordered, everything looked like heaps of food, terrific value. The fried chicken was a leg, wing, and breast--so much they shouldn't even bother with the white meat. I love brunch, and the competition in the city is daunting. Everyone has a twist, specialty, theme consisting of distant lands, inexcusable amount of bacon, or specialty cocktails etc. Breakfast House though, is simply good food, high quality coffee, and excellent service. A nice little corner spot with a strong brunch menu. The line outside had us thinking 30 minutes but they seated us in less than ten. Points! The atmosphere is relaxed and the seating was ample but cramped. It's a BYOB spot too, so that's convenient. The food... YES! Decided to try BH for the first time last weekend with my wife and 18-mo old son. We are creatures of habit and love a good breakfast. That being said, we will be going back soon! We arrived around 9am on a Saturday and there was no wait to get our table. The host and servers were very polite and greeted our son with a plate of sliced banana which was a great touch of service. The Intelligentsia coffee was a nice surprise. Most of all, the food was awesome. From the first bite (Huevos Rancheros) I knew we were in for a good meal. Everything was fresh and not greasy at all. The pancakes were awesome (close in taste to my long-time fave at Salt & Pepper RIP). My wife had the corn cakes which were also great. On a side note, as a self-proclaimed "portion snob" the portions were perfect. Nothing too little and certainly nothing too ridiculous. We'll definitely be back for sure, and I can easily see this as my new morning go-to spot on the weekend (and maybe on my way into work during the week if necessary). read more

The Goat Cheese Ravioli was delicious - Mexican flavors and topped with fresh roasted corn which I've never tasted in a pasta dish before. I also recommend the Roasted Pork Chop. Our waiter Roberto looked genuinely happy to see that we ate every bite, it reminded me of the look my parents give when I plow through a home cooked meal. We were seated outdoors, and were encouraged to stay as long as we wanted and to finish our bottle of wine (BYO). I'm sorry to admit I went in not knowing what to expect, as they just started to serve dinner here and it would be hard to beat how well they do breakfast. Totally exceeded my expectations. My idea of an enjoyable Sunday breakfast is to eat good food in an eatery with attentive service and no waiting lines that provides a quiet and comfortable setting. Well, my wife recently found a place that meets all these requirements, and we are now steady customers. That place is the Breakfast House, which has been opened for about seven months. It offers a nice variety of diner food and is open daily for lunch and breakfast. It has two indoor dinning rooms with unremarkable decor, one with about 10 tables and a counter with stools and the other with seven tables. Outdoor seating is also available with two tables in front of the restaurant and four more on the side. My wife and I have breakfasted there several times and have been extremely impressed with the quality of the food, the very friendly and efficient service, the moderate prices, and the relaxed, peaceful setting. One highly recommended dish is the Huevos Rancheros. It is very well prepared with fresh ingredients that include savory black beans, pepper jack cheese, and ranchero sauce. Another huge hit is the Vegetable Frittata. This vegetarian dish is oven baked and the ingredients besides eggs include bell peppers, shaved zucchini, and sautéed spinach. Daily specials are also offered. One that we recently sampled was the Egg Tacos. This dish consisted of three separate corn tortillas filled with scramble eggs, pepper jack cheese, chopped bacon, and onions topped with cold pico de gallo sauce. All of the ingredients were fresh and work extremely well in combination with each other. One issue was that because the pico de gallo sauce was cold (as it should be), it cooled the eggs too quickly. Nevertheless, this dish was delicious as well as very filling. In the future I would ask to have the pico de gallo served on the side. Another noteworthy special just tried was the Omelet A La Mexicana. It was filled with jack cheese, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, and corn and topped with ranchero sauce. It was very well made and tasty. Another feature of this establishment is that abundant free street parking is always available. Each time we've visited the Breakfast House, we were seated immediately. However, the popularity of this little gem is rapidly picking up, and I am afraid that it won't be long before we will have to stand in line to get in. I just hope that if it gets to that point, reservations won't be hard to get. read more

Nice simple breakfast meal though they had other more savory options that we didn't get the chance to try. Everything tasted good and I really have no complaints. It's about time I wrote this note. I've been here at least a dozen if not 20 times already. This is my go-to place for anytime before 3pm. The daily specials are great and super fresh. Breakfast foods have been great and very well prepared. I've had omeletes, huevos rancheros, pancakes, waffles, house special hash, etc... it's all been top notch. Great bacon ta'boot. Lunch foods are equally great and super fresh. Great fresh sandwiches and salads! Homemade soups that are fantastic! Homemade salad dressings that are amazing!
