Used to work around the area but never checked this place out until recently. A traditional sports bar but bigger than anticipated with a vibrant atmosphere and a solid variety of games to play. Please note--it is not related to the Break Bar in Midtown, they are owned by different companies. Spent most of my time on ping pong and foosball, great for a competitive group. Even if you're just there for a quick drink and a chat you can do so with ease without feeling out of place. Pricing is great--$10-15 for food and drinks with solid variety. Recommend if you're coming with a group as it's spread out nicely, keeping everyone in their own space. A great find in Astoria--even for "your new boo" as their website puts it. If you plan to go hear to watch UFC, DON'T! The bartenders/managers are a bunch of crowd DIS-pleasers. Instead of playing audio for the entire main card of current fights, they instead would prefer to play their hillbilly music. This is a fun place for playing pool. You have to find the right days to go because many leagues come to play during the day and then its packed weekend nights. Its a good spot for groups. Besides pool, tjere are some other games like arcade basketball, ping pong, board games, jenga, connect 4, etc. The service at the pool tables and at the bar can be somewhat slow, even when its fairly empty. Stopped by on a Saturday night around 12-1AM. Got ID and didn't get my purse checked by security. Super crowded, loud and sausage fest. Signing up for table tennis and pool was a long wait with both having at least 20 people ahead of us. Had to give my card and number to be alerted when it was my turn, but people didn't respect that and still tried to steal my table tennis turn. Awkward and disorganized. Drinks wise, I only drank the whiskey sour which was good, nothing crazy. Opened a tab and all the whiskey sours varied for sure, sometimes having a lemon garnish and sometimes not, and inconsistent ice quantity. The games were all basic ones like connect four (normal and giant sized) or giant jenga. But, you're lucky to get a game considering people hog them and most are missing pieces lol. Love this place, and I'm so glad they survived COVID. You can miss it if your not sure where your going. But it's up some stairs between stores. I like it here because the food is priced right, there is tons of games you can play and if you're on a new date, just have fun playing games. Can't really expect too much from a bar like this other than loud crowds. The food was fine, drinks fine. Service took awhile but that's because it was fight night and it was definitely crowded. Love this place. No cover plus only 21+, it's great that there's no high schoolers. Ambient vibes even when it's crowded. Come early so you can reserve a pool table. From jumbo Jenga, fooseball, pool, to ping pong, there are a lot of great games to choose from. The pool is about $16 an hour which is awesome. Came here on a Saturday night before 8. There was one pool table available. It wasn't too busy so it seemed like people could play for awhile if they wanted to before it's late and more crowded. Didn't get the food here but I really like the ambiance of the place. There is pool tables (usually booked unless u get there earlier than 7pm) ping ping (only two tables) and shuffle board. Pool and ping pong was $16 per hour and shuffle board was around $8-10. Drinks were around $7-10 cocktails were $12. So prices are cheaper here compared to manhattan prices. So just moving to the neighborhood and thought I'd venture out to explore the local spots. Over the weekend I had an awesome time at "Pig Beach BBQ" watched that games with friends and met some new folks. After work I decided to venture to this spot in hope of grabbing a beer and wings maybe nachos before heading in for the night. Overweight security guard sitting at the door is a nightmare of a person to have the job he has. Once I climbed the stairs I spoke to him and he looked me up and down. I leaned in slightly because the music was loud and I speak low because (I'm a vocalist). I ask him as I'm reaching for my ID if the food was good. He replied my stating it was bad food he didn't know. Realizing my ID was in my bag I reached inside and he asked me to back up and then asked if I was alright. There is nothing about me that would read that I wasn't. He was clearly in a mood or doesn't like people that look like me or talk like me or who knows. But running a multi-million business myself I immediately walked out and started this review. If he were at my company and I watched the footage after reading the review he'd be gone. I hope your experience after making the climb up the stairs to be greeted by what I would call a horrible human you enjoy yourself. Hands down one of my favorite places to go in Astoria! If you're a fan of billiards, they have loads of tables to rent on the right hand side of the room. A server always comes around to make sure you're well hydrated! On the left hand side of the room are tables, in case you want to sit down, have a drink, and get some light bar food. I'd stay away from the chips & quac (because they're pretty stale) but all of the other bar food is fantastic. I wish i could've properly patronized this place before writing this review but the over zealous bouncer did not allow me into the bar. First of all, I am all for bars strictly enforcing the NYC mandated vaccination policies. I will acknowledge that this is not only the law but also the right thing to do. I came to the door of this bar with the proper identification and a vaccine card that clearly showed me having ONE dose. I have since gotten the second dose (since the wait time is 28 days between doses). However I was turned away for not having TWO doses, but the law clearly states ONE dose. I politely reminded the bouncer that the law is for ONE dose to no avail. So me and date just left. I dont know why the bouncer would not let me in. However I want to share my story here and speculate on some reasons why they would not me in and let the readers decide if they want to support this bar. 1. Maybe the bouncer was told to accept only people with TWO doses as extreme enforcement of the law. Extremely enforcement of the law is just as bad not enforcing the law at all. By not following the letter of the law - it undermines the intent of the law as well. It does society no favors when bars decide to arbitrarily enforce their own policies. Follow the rules...they are simple and clear. I attached the copy below 2. This is pure speculation but when unjustly turned away, i cant keep my mind from going here. I am not a white male, the average clientele of a sports bar on a Saturday night. I cant help but wonder if this had something to do with. I know small businesses have had a tough time the past year and we should support them. I have been going here for 8 years, tonight the girl who collects the payment for the pool table told me to go to the wrong spot to return the pool balls and lied. The bartender then told me to walk back to the lying girl. Then when my friend went to her she made us wait for 10 ppl to pass us. Then a different server gave me my card. I will never go here again. Went to Break Bar for some games and drinks after dinner on a Friday night. It's very similar to one of my favorite spots in Manhattan, Fat Cat, because it's a bar that mostly has games! Specifically, pool, ping pong, foosball, darts, arcade games, board games, and my personal favorite, table shuffle board. Drink prices are average, they serve a few common craft beers. Unfortunately, there was a wait for a pool table, so we played some foosball and shuffleboard instead. They weren't the best maintained, but they were playable. We ended up not getting a pool table, but we did get to play giant Jenga which was fun too. Definitely good for just hanging out. read more

In modern times, this is where Daniel-San would have taken Ali instead of the Family Fun Center. (#1) Even though I knew it would be a semi-cluster, I always reserved my times at Break Bar for big sports nights. Instead of being outside in a beer garden, I always preferred the indoor settings in case of bad weather. However, in the wee hours, this was a perfect place for a night cap, a little billiard action, and good vibes. Occasionally I'd make room for a little giant jenga and/or giant connect-4. The food wasn't much to write home about, but I commend them for making bar fare look a lot sexier than the norm. Finger foods galore; one would find big pretzels hanging from a display, burgers, quesadillas, popcorn chicken, wings, fries would all find its way to me somehow. To me, their burgers and tots were the clear winners. There were cocktails and lots of beers on tap. They had a running list of weekly bar specials as well as happy hour every night till 8pm. I thought the cocktails were pretty simple, yet potent and the beers were plentiful. In hindsight, this place was already fun, but being under the influence only made it more so. Naturally, the service varied. They had their good days where orders were quick and things were efficient, as well as times where I'd be waiting around for things to happen. On their busiest nights, the bathrooms were as such that I'd just simply hold it in till I got home. Lastly, I can't be sure of how things are since the pandemic. I understand there was a GoFundMe at one point and they had shut down for the summer, but I'm not sure how things have been since. I came here on a Saturday night with a group of 4 people. One of my friends lives nearby and he says it's one of the most popular bars in Astoria. I haven't been to a bar since the COVID-19 lockdown so it was nice to see so many people in the bar. There's no cover and they check ID at the door by security since you have to be 21 to enter. They had a good selection of various bar games like giant Jenga, Connect Four, hook and ring toss, pool, ping pong, foosball, and arcade games. They also have many TV screens with baseball (mainly Yankees games). It was hard to get a server but probably best to just order at the bar. We ordered a pitcher of Blue Moon and it was a good price. Bar-hopping in Astoria, my friend suggested we play a round of pool, and Break came up at the top of our search. We located the entrance on Broadway, headed up the stairs, and requested a table in the back. Balls in hand, we settled into our section. The pool table was in great shape and there were plenty of sticks to choose from. I won some, lost some (bad luck with the ol' eight ball), and had an all-around fun experience. We drank a bucket of Coronas and let the good times roll. Rates are decent ($15/hour for the table) and the bar prices are about average. Came to see the UFC last night 7/2. We got there at 10:15 and the place was Busy There was so seating available, we made reservations for the pool table and ping pong and there was 15-19 people in front of us for both activities.Luckily they text you when it's ready and you can click the link and see how far on the list you are. The bouncer gave my friend who came about 1 15 mins after us a problem to come in. He said they were full and needed people to leave before they let him in. In that moment 5 people were leaving and he still didn't want to let him in. Later in the night there's was WAY more people, so did the capacity grow or something ? We were lucky enough to notice a couple leave and ask if we could have their table. There was food on the table for a while until i asked a server named Eni to clean the table and she just asking us for our order. I once again asked her to clean the table and give us a few mins to order. She took the food but there was a bunch of liquid and crumbs which took like an additional 10-15 mins to clean which was kinda gross. When we came back she cleaned the table and even got the crumbs on me which is gross. After she took our order. Beers came pretty fast. The food came out pretty fast too but my friends food didn't come at all. I was trying to get the waitresses attention but she was busy with other tables and WELL AS BUSY HITTING HER WEED PEN. when i finally got her attention i told her my friends order never came out and she's just looking at me confused and told me yes i put in the order, i then told her I'm done eating and his food isn't here. And then she went back to the kitchen. About 15 mins later his food came out but it was a different waiter and he walked right passed us i ended up stopping him and he gave us the food and the waitress came to tell him it was our food. After 25 mins i told her my friend ordered a drink and once again she's looking at me with a blank stare as if she doesn't understand me. I repeat myself and then she gets the drink right away. Since moving to this hip town I've been to Break numerous times with no complaints. Since 2007 this bar has been crushing the scene for all kinds of folks. If you're looking to watch the big game, shoot some pool with some professionals, get crushed at ping pong, or lose in pop-a-shot this is the place to be. They have something for everyone! The food is classic bar food with a twist. The flavors are bold and they have the best: -Wings -Popcorn Chicken -Chips & Salsa Aside from the food, the drink selection is always on point. Plenty of beer on tap along with bottles that you've never heard of. I believe they do pitchers too? Can't find a cheap pitcher anywhere in the city! Also, they have pickle back shots that will make you crawling back to the bar for another because they are kind of a big DILL (okay, I'll stop). We always bring our friends who are coming from out of town and when we want to have a fun date night. This is the only sports bar you need to know about it Astoria.
