It's a good thing I've been here before with better experiences... if today was my only experience there, I'd be hesitant to go back, especially since it's not in the neighborhood. We went for Taco Tuesdays - $6 gets you any 3 kinds of tacos. It's a good deal, and we've gotten used to slow-ish, but generally friendly, service. This time, we were all but ignored.. when we moved to a more visible spot, we ordered from a server who recognized us (apparently we're 'regular' enough not to get menus...) and waited...and waited... for food. Our orders were mixed up, but we figured it out early enough to avoid the meat / vegetarian switcharoo... our sour cream never came... and oh, yeah, we waited 15 minutes for change. Service, this time around, was the opposite of friendly. Weird, considering our last experience, and disappointing. All in all, the downsides of dinner were minor. This is hands down our favorite bar in DC. We feel so fortunate to have lived nearby it while here for the summer ! I almost never get out to Glover Park, but I was actually surprised, this place was pretty cool. Very small, and definitely busy on the weekends with a bunch of AU kids (but also some others). I like the drinks, the fact that they have food, etc. It's a bit small, so kinda hard to get a pool table or shuffleboard if you don't come at the right time. I went to Breadsoda after a semi-mortifying experience up the street at Gin & Tonic and whew, what a relief. The first thing that I noticed was how great the bartenders were. I asked for a Blue Moon, my favorite beer, which they didn't have, but the guy offered me other options that were exactly like Blue Moon. I ended up getting a gin and tonic, but I was very impressed with how helpful he was. They were also very attentive and friendly. The night wasn't as crowded as it could have been, but I doubt that things would have been any different if the place was packed. The crowd was good too. Mostly groups of friends huddled around tables or the bar, which I am totally fine with. I had my own group of friends to huddle with as well. And they were fun, as always :) But they did run me up a pretty high bar tab. $60 at the end of the night, which wasn't TOO bad. I believe I charged two Delerium Tremins, my gin and tonic, and a few other drinks. But things were a little fuzzy by closing time so I couldn't exactly remember... I also really liked the atmosphere. It just oozed friendliness and fun. Everyone around me was having a good time and there was a good energy everywhere. All in all, Breadsoda is a great place. If you go during the day, you can play pool, darts, shuffle board, or a variety of other games at no cost. We're regulars - come here at least once a week. On 7/3 we came with friends and sat up at the picnic tables. The waitress, who has served us before, was in a miserable mood. Barely talked, threw down menus then disappeared. My husband had to go down to get service. We ordered the mixed plate app - took 40 minutes to get served for literally 2 little piles of prosciutto, 4 slices of cheese, slices of cucumber and some stale bread. I work about a block and a half from Breadsoda, shout out to WDCW-TV, and go for lunch about 3 or 4 times a month. I've been for happy hour after work. The sandwiches are good. I've had the Italian, ham and swiss, and my personal favorite the grilled cheese and bacon. It comes on sour dough for added flavor. My arteries can't handle that one too often but it is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. The staff is friendly. They are usally playing GolTv and Sports Center highlights in the afternoon. For the evening, I have to give a nod to the jukebox. This has one of the most diverse collections I've seen in a jukebox. Some of my all time favorites like EPMD Strictly Business, Nas Illmatic, Curtis Mayfield Superfly Soundtrack, Eric B and Rakim Follow the Leader but also Led Zeplin, Green Day, Hendrix. Excellent bar! Wonderful service, entertaining games & trivia, and the selection of drinks is plentiful. The food selection is a bit different than your average bar food, but it tastes good (especially the chili dogs). Very relaxed place to unwind on the weekend or for happy hour. Great bar in a busy part of town! It's super spacious and they have a bunch of activities for you and your friends to play around with. I came here a few days ago to pick up a to go order for a coworker and I waited almost an hour and it was not that busy . My coworker found hair in her food and called it in and was giving crap about if the long blonde hair was hers. I'm a little torn on this place, but overall was a fan! Somewhat strange "basement" location under/next to a hardware store, but once you're inside, it strikes me as a middle of the road "dive bar" - not trashy, not upscale. They have bar and table service, so you just choose a spot accordingly. Not a ton of table seating, but enough. Food was pretty good, but standard. Good local beer selection. I decided to join in Hannah at Breadsoda for her Uye Uye Uye...still keeping in mind she did not go to mine a few months back, but hey..I like her very much and I can always plan another occasion ...heheheh. I came from VA and must had driven passed it 3 times while the GPS lady voice kept telling me "your destination is on your left"...then, "make a legal U turn when possible". A second later, "your destination is on your right"!...where the HELL lady??... so I finally looked DOWN and saw the not so visible sign. I parked in the back..alone..creepy...tried to get through the back doors...thank you F*ckers they were all closed! So I got back into my car and re-parked closer to the alley so I would not have to walk that much. It was cold and windyyy. After all that drama, I walked into Breadsoda expecting a large bar with ping pong tables, pool tables...shuffle board...but I was CLEARLY mistaken. I found the beautiful familiar faces of Mike T, Opti and Hannah. It was nice to meet Deborah too. The place only had 3 pool tables, a WII console and a dart board. I'll give it to you that you have a large...bar. Came in super hungry and decided for a Prosciutto with aioli sandwich and a gin and tonic. The menu is not so appetizing. I wanted a plain ol' burger...they only had a veggie burger! Which found it strange why a simple burger wasn't on the menu! My prosciutto arrived. The Sandwich was cut in half, good taste, but was only able to eat one half. The artisan bread kind of hurt the roof of my mouth, but it was worth the pain. Hannah's friend was nice to accept my other half as I did not want that sandwich to be tossed. Many more familiar faces came in to include Mic, Tony, Vasily, Gloria, Farzan, Scott, Daniel, Bassey, Ben T., Tracey, Tara, Anthony (nice meeting you!), etc..and of course Opti! It was a great time and agree that the music was a bit sketchy. The place got really busy and few people played pool once it got packed. The service was ok, had to wait a bit for drinks until the guy actually acknowledged me! This is almost my ideal bar: great food and a fantastic draft lineup of 14 beers on tap (North Coast's Scrimshaw Pilsner, Bell's, Troegs, etc). It's in a basement, but has a nice little outisde seating area for good weather. In addition to the sandwiches and home made pickles, they have charcuterie and cheese...and it's not even a wine bar! Who knew?!? The Gaffel Kolsch on draft can be ordered in a large or small. The pool table and the pictures from Steve McQueen's "Bullit" on the wall add too it's coolness quotient. The only thing lacking: a good burger, but with their tiny food prep area, they can only do sandwiches. If only it was located downtown rather than Glover Park I would go a lot more often, but this is definitely worth traveling out of your way for. read more

I was taken here on a recent visit, and I will say I like the idea. We went for a late lunch and we were the only customers in the place except for two people playing pool on the other side of the room. Here is what I know, there are pool tables, trivia nights, darts (I think), and other quirky events and games to keep evening fun, plus the happy hours are great deals. I had the roast beef and blue cheese sandwich while my friends had the burgers. Of course we indulged in the fries. The quality of the meats on all of the meals was above average, and they were cooked just as we asked. I will say that the touch of crumbled blue cheese made my sandwich one I look forward to having again. Now my concern. When the two people playing pool paired there tab up at the bar it became apparent that they did not speak much English, and we're tourists. I guess they did not tip, or tipped very little because the bartender said, "thanks for the f---en tip" and when the two men appeared confused, the bartender came around the bar and told them to "get the f--- out of my bar". We left shortly there after, and this left a terrible taste in my mouth for the place. I have not decided it this will prevent me from returning, but I am taking away stars for this review because of that. read more

This space is really unique. It's also bipolar. During the day, it's a cutesy deli where you go and sit down and have lunch at umbrella'd tables on the patio. At night, it's your prepster friend's basement -- the one with the pool table and the darts and the liquor cabinet (minus the free-ness). So it's a pleasantly crowded basement bar + odd but really nice patio option that's big enough to accommodate lots o' people without getting uncommonly sweaty. Beer selection is randomly quite haute and international, and verges on unaffordable for multiples. However, because of that it's really good, and often comes in its international brand's very own glass. Niiiiiiice! Is Glover Park becoming a night scene destination? By my boat shoes! I can't remember exactly what I got, but I do remember that their food and drinks were not impressive... Not bad, but not good. The place is pretty loud because of the games and pool they have going on, but the few times I've been, they were never crowded. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because this place opened a week ago and I've only been once. I had a GREAT time. The space is large and open with seating outside, at the bar, and at a few tables. The games...so much fun. Shuffleboard, pool, wii, etc. for $6 per person for an hour (the price gets lower with the more people that play). The beer selection is great. The bartender said the beer we ordered wasn't "pouring" right so he gave us a different/delicious suggestion. I didn't have the food but the price was very right ($5-8 range) and a friend said the sandwiches are solid. We were all really psyched about the jukebox. Also they have their own indoor parking and it's SO convenient. I'm so happy to have a place where I can drink a decent beer and not sit around doing nothing. I feel like people don't use the word "chillax" enough, and this is a good place to do that. I love the patio, the interior looks like a posh version of a 70's rec room and there's a great selection of beer. I've been here during the week and on a Saturday night, and it's never been too crowded. Haven't tried the food or the ping pong yet, but I want to! The crowd here is pretty relaxed too (although I watched a girl accidentally drop a glass and then proceed to purposefully smash it into smithereens with her sky high wedges. That seemed unnecessary). And the staff is cool as well - way more "alternative" than the kids you usually see in Glover Park. Maybe they ship them in. After dinner at Sushi Ko, we decided to walk down to Breadsoda for some Hot Chocolate with real whipped cream that Kevin L. made out to be heaven in a cup. When we asked the bartender, she said the guy was out of town and they had no hot chocolate tonight! Blasphemy! I was upset so I just settled for a beer. Anyhow, I just have to say I loved the music in there, it provided such a relaxing enviroment for me, it was dim and I loved how the tables and chairs didnt match and adorned a plain green plant. Breadsoda is a cool little neighborhood watering hole. After walking down a set of stairs outside and past some tables (with heat lamps for cooler days), you walk in to a nice room with stone walls and hardwood floors. The drink selection is solid for beer, wine, and mixed drinks. They also have a shuffleboard table and pool tables, as well as some of the coolest looking wall art I've seen.
