Brisket Nachos
Antoninette B.

Cool spot with really great food, super nice bartenders, and a perfect setup to watch sports/football. They are open super late (2am/3am) and the food is honestly a standout! The Brisket Nachos are essentially a perfect bite, the chili is warm and hearty (more of a sweet chili than a spicy chili), and the grilled cheeses are a perfect match. The energy in here is fun during game days; it's a great spot to grab a beer and some great food!

You know what time it is. Swacho time.

If you don't like American Ice then honestly grow up. This is the best neighborhood spot in the entire city. The swachos are next level and the undisputed king of bar food in the DMV. Good beers on tap served out of mason jars, simple and strong mixed drinks, as many pickleback shots as your body can handle. American Ice is a certified good time all day every day. The bartenders are nice and efficient, and the vibe of the bar leans "drinking beer in your buddy's dad's garage in the Midwest." And I mean that in the best way possible.

Veggie Nachos

This is a fun spot! Super lively but has an indoor and outdoor seating section. Easy to get a seat on a Saturday night, and easy to talk and catch up in a loud environment. Nachos were good, I think the non-vegetarian version would have been better. Grilled cheese was delicious as well. We also got the seasonal cider -- which was great! Good place to head after a concert at the 9:30 club. Definitely nothing insane, but it was a good find and enjoyable

A nice place to have a quick bite after going to the 9:30 Club for a concert! It's a little confusing how to order here--tables have waiters, but small tables and the bar doesn't--but the food was pretty good! I liked the chill atmosphere here too.

I came here for a drink after dinner. I got a gin and tonic because they didn't have the ingredients to make the cocktail I originally wanted. The service was decent and it looks like a chill place to hangout.

The nachos. Pretty delicious!! Especially that house made spicy sauce. Yum

Came here for happy hour with my apartment. I brought my friend. I did not know this spot was here and they said they'd been around for 8-9 years! Granted I'm only a recent transplant but wish I'd been going all summer. We sat at the bar. The service was great. To drink, I had the americana combo (PBR + rye shot) which was absolutely delicious. I asked the bartender how to drink it and he said however I'd like. So I would take a swig of the shot and chase it with beer. The tallboy was a tall one (**see what I did there baha**) so I would just re-order the shot to have with my beer. To eat, my friend and I shared the nachos. They were pretty good. Came out very very fast. We added this homemade red spicy sauce that was both sweet and hot and phenomenal! Exceptional addition. Overall, great experience and I would most definitely return, especially for Happy Hour, my favorite drinking time

American Ice is a laid back bar in Shaw serving drinks and some awesome food. A must-order item is the Swatchos (nachos with pulled pork)! Even though I'm not vegetarian, I actually prefer that version (substitutes beans for the pork)... it's delicious! They also have amazing grilled cheese sandwiches! Hot Tip: substitute chili for your side in place of the tortilla chips! The chili is also vegetarian, but I don't miss the meat at all when I eat it. Will miss American Ice Company, as they close after Halloween (& will hopefully reopen in 2021).

It's where the butts go

This place is weird and I like that. Lots of good craft beers on tap. Good mixed indoor/outdoor space. Really no reason to hold back on being loud as hell. But if you were looking for a calm business meeting, wrong locale. There's a sign that just says Butts. So, consider the selfietunities.

I'm so happy that American Ice Co is back open! A great bar, with outdoor options during COVID. The swachos (pork nachos) are some of the best nachos in town! It's a great place for a casual drink or, as in many years past for me, a spot for a birthday party or similar get-together.

This restaurant is exclusively for the second version. I don't come here often because I respect myself. But when I do? Oh, it's a whole event. The smoked wings are everything, the ribs hold up every single time, the smoked chicken is to die for, and that potato salad has absolutely no business being that good. Bonus: one order feeds me for like three days. Three. Days. The portion sizes alone deserve a five-star review. This is my naughty place and I am at peace with that.

The wings were seasoned just right and honestly didn't need sauce. If you want one though, go with the cilantro ranch. The BBQ sauce wasn't sweet or smoky, I'm still trying to figure out what the flavor was. Also, I got 9 drums and 3 flats, which was a little off, I'd prefer a 6/6 split. Online you cannot do all flats or all drums The spicy greens are meat-free and I even called both to make sure. had good flavor, but they were more sweet and spicy to me not just spicy. Service / Timing: The cashier wasn't very welcoming. No hello, no thank you, nothing. That definitely stood out for these prices. Value: Pretty pricey for what I got. My total was $27.55 for 12 wings and greens. HIGH Highlight: WINGS. Wrap-Up: Despite the service and the price, the food was good. I will be back for the wings!

I ordered a Wagyu Brisket sandwich with Brisket beans and mac n cheese as the sides. I also ordered 1/2 pound of spare ribs. My son ordered a brisket sandwich, barbecue chicken, corn bread, coleslaw. Brisket and ribs super tender and barbecue sauce was good, but I'm from Kansas and Kansas City barbecue spots have better sauce Their sauce was a little too thin and ran off the meat. Everything was smoked to perfection except for the chicken. I heard that the chicken was kind of flavorless and a little dry. I didn't have any, but my son, his wife and kids did and so that was something that we wouldn't order again. Very nice and pleasant employees and decent prices although the sides were too small of portions.

The brisket was pretty good. Not the best I ever had. However, it had great texture and was thick cut. Dipped in their bbq sauce- it was even better. The grilled wings were great. Fat juicy drums! *I gave my aunt the flats, and she enjoyed them too. The brussels and esquites were great. Im not a big parmesan guy, but on the brussels it surprised me. The cornbread had a great texture as it was moist and held up nice; it wasn't dry and crumbly. I prefer my cornbread sweet though. Id pass on it next time. Upon request, the pickles were great, but the pickled onions not so much. They were more bitter and "onion'y" if you know what I mean (it tastes like they used white onions, the ones that go on hotdogs). Im used to them being a little sweet when I get them from bbq places and even Mediterranean spots. And lastly, I didn't like the blue cheese too much it was more bitter (im used to sweeter blue cheese similar to Ken's). Another thing I'd pass on in the future. Overall, the main courses and sides were good. I recommend and would go back again to get the same things and even try the white meat chicken.

I liked the modern industrial interior (exposed ceilings, cement floor), complete with bespoke woodpiles. Super cheerful service. BIG portions (with an extra side, each entree is a meal for two), everything hand-made, many nods to modern American cuisine such as the care they spend on sides and the well-crafted cocktails. Amazing how many things you can smoke. Now, drinks and food. Nothing liked a smoking whiskey cocktail, people sitting next to you will stare in envy (as well they should). Wife's grilled pineapple mojito was topped with such a large mint sprig, it was positively horticultural. Along with the complementary cornbread, a great start. My barbecue expert's half rack of St. Louis-style ribs was trimmed and plenty moist, with six BBQ sauces to choose from. Lots of pickle slices (cucumbers in any form are perfect with seasoned meat). I had the "signature dish:" plank-smoked salmon, wild rice & roasted Brussels sprouts, a superb adaptation of the art of barbecue to a healthy piece of fish. Interesting chat with Chef Darneille about the challenges of the restaurant scene. Appreciated his honesty, he appreciated our business. This spot isn't just about the meat (though, let's be honest, you could stop there and leave happy). It's like a one-stop shop for food lovers, whether you're dining in or taking a piece of the experience home.
