This is a tough review to write because I really love what Bread Hive is all about, the atmosphere inside, and the menu was really cool and eclectic. I had wanted to go to Bread Hive for a while. I was coming into Buffalo for a show today and decided to head over to Connecticut Street to try it out finally. I walked in to what appeared to be a good size crowd in the room. There were 3-4 people in line ahead of me waiting to order. I waited in line for about 10 minutes or so before making it to the register. The girl at the counter said it would be about a 25 minute wait which I was ok with because I had some time to kill. I placed my order and took a seat. I ordered "The Gwen" which was turkey, cheddar jack cheese, veggies, and whipped avocado on a pretzel bagel to dine-in. 43 minutes later (from the time stamp on my ticket) my sandwich was up. I needed it removed from the plate and boxed to go because I was now running late. I didn't realize that the entire room was waiting for a sandwich and that I should have doubled down on the 25 minute estimate. The sandwich was great once I got to eat it 4 hours later. The Bread Hive social media is always poppin' and I had heard great things, so I never would have guessed it would take that long. If I had known, I would have spent my money and time elsewhere. I really figured it would be a quicker process. I do plan to go back when I have extra time to try something else and give it another shot. The hot sandwiches sounded great and I regret not getting more bagels to take home because the pretzel bagel was awesome. ...but again, I had to wait 43 minutes for a breakfast sandwich. So be sure to allow some time for this one on busy days. read more

I woke up one morning and decided to stop here for a quick breakfast. I got an everything bagel with egg, pepper jack cheese, vegan tempeh bacon, and jalapeño cheddar cream cheese. It was AMAZING. The bacon tasted meaty and it was really filling. It was super nice being able to order on the phone and just walk over and grab my bagel. Highly recommend this place! read more

A handful of sandwiches on the menu are named after famous female singers (I had the Aaliyah, but there was a Britney & Shania that looked equally as enticing). You can never go wrong when you order from Breadhive! My personal favorite is their rosemary bagel with dill, scallions and cucumbers - a recommendation from a previous employer that I randomly met in Buffalo. The cookies are super moist, everything is fresh. I ordered ahead and my 2 bagels and iced coffee took about 20 min to be prepared. Pickup was very "Covid clean" outside the store. I've wanted to rate this place for a while, it wasn't my first visit but it had been some time. It was about 9 AM and luckily for me there was only one person in line ahead of me. I ordered the Britney on everything bagel because I love NYC style bagels with lox. There is plenty of seating here which is great and theres a cute farmhouse look to this place (which sometimes means uncomfortable seats - sorry not sorry). I waited maybe 10 minutes for my order and was not disappointed. The Britney cost me ~9 dollars with tax. It is pretty pricey so I probably wouldn't come here every day but once in a while this is nice to have. I also have purchased similar bagels to this one in NYC for cheaper but obviously there is little competition here so they can mark up the price for a larger profit margin. Despite the cost, I will say I thoroughly enjoyed my bagel and I was extremely full for majority of the day. Now onto the Britney - it's a lox and cheese (with a hint of lemon) type of deal which is perfect for an NYC craving. I really enjoyed the soft yet crispy bagel! All in all a great decision to come here - I would come back and try the other varieties they have to offer. read more

This was a spectacular Yelp find for me. I have yet to have anything from here that I haven't loved. Street parking is available, I usually have to park around the corner. The location is small, but there are several spaces inside to eat. Online ordering is available. Come early in the morning, when there is still a full variety of breads, bagels, and goodies available. Check their socials for rotating options. Staff is also so friendly and eager to answer questions. We have tried several breakfast and lunch sandwiches, where the bread and bagels are the true stars. We always have to leave with a loaf of sourdough, it's the best we have ever had. The lemon dill cream cheese is also a must, bring home a container for $5. Their cookies and brownies are wonderful and worth getting at least one. My dog, loved their treats, which are in the shape of flowers that can be broken into small bite size "petals." This may be one of the best places to visit in buffalo for lunch, breakfast, a snack, a dessert, or just to see how amazing it is. I am shocked I have never heard of this place until recently. A friend of mine came across it so we made plans to go in for lunch one day and when we got there everything sounded so good we just could not decide what we wanted. After limiting it down to a sandwich and a bagel and a pastry and a fresh juice we finally ordered. The Staff was great! I had an A-A-L-I-Y-A-H (amazing singer) and it was to die for. The fresh home made sausage and bread were just amazing. The Bagel was so good and the cream cheese (Cheddar Jalapeno) was phenomenal! the dessert was a chocolate chip muffin and it was amazing too! Yay! I finally got to try this place. My friend and I didn't have a lot of time, so we grabbed the Aaliyah breakfast sandwich on a pretzel roll and split it. We also got beverages. I chose to get a kombucha, which was a brand I had never seen before. We came just at the right time, as a huge line formed behind us. I love the atmosphere and wish we had time to sit down and enjoy our sandwich. I'll definitely be back to do that. I have heard many good things about this place for a couple years, but had yet to visit for myself. Nestled in a slowly gentrifying corridor of Connecticut Street on the city's near West Side, this small bake shop offers a nice variety of intriguing sandwich options. Since I had long heard how good their homemade soft pretzels were, I opted for a breakfast sandwich that included egg, housemade sausage, and cheese - set upon a delicious soft pretzel. After my first bite, I understood the hype. This was a breakfast sandwich high up in the elite echelons of breakfast sandwiches - and the new one to beat in the Buffalo area. This place is corky - in a good way. It's in a great area in the westside which isn't super busy so I feel it's still a hidden gem within the area. First thing you'll notice in the place is the seating placement. Whoever constructed this place was certainly thinking from a consumers point of view because there is a ton of seating - both inside and some seating outside. I'll admit, I haven't been to this place as many times as I'd like since I lived in the area due their hours of operation, but I may it a priority to go there at least once a month. If I was more of a bread enthusiast, this would be certainly my place because there's tons of bread and bagel options here and they all look and smell delicious. One thing I love about this place is the customer service is astounding. I've only had pleasurable experiences when I come in and honestly makes you want to come back. Not only to browse the great pasty and muffin selections, but to interact with the employees working. I tend to get "The Aaliyah," which is sausage, scrambled egg, and maple on a whatever bagel of your liking. Let me tell you, it's delicious! And for just $7, it strikes up as quite a hefty sandwich. Well, this place knocks it out of the park! Whoa baby. Tried this place for breakfast this week, got the AALIYAH sandwich, including: egg, sausage, cheese and maple syrup on a bread of choice, which was a sesame bagel for this guy. The bagel was crisped perfectly and the dough was SO soft. Everything about it was delicious and I got a ginger molasses cookie on the side which was OUT of this world-delish. The coffee was great and I dug the inside. The only downfall was staff that day weren't friendly BUT it was at like 8am so maybe they didn't have their coffee yet :). Bread is the staff of life and life is too short to eat bad stuff, especially bad bread. We are lucky to have some great bakeries in town. Especially our BreadHive. Their sourdough is delicious and makes excellent bread and pretzels. They make an extra long fermented rustic loaf (on Tuesdays and Saturdays) that is especially crusty. Go early if you want one of those....they sell out! They also make a wonderful rye bread and a friend of mine is addicted to their chocolate rye cookies. Mornings are great when you have buttery Westside Sourdough toast and a nice cup of coffee. They serve coffee, tea and beer along with various snacks. The only prepared food I've had is the egg, cheese and sausage sandwich which makes me feel warm down to my toes every time I have one. They must put extra love into that sandwich! Breadhive is a friendly, quaint cafe-bakery with a solid array of labeled vegan options. I got the Shania breakfast sandwich on a pumpernickel bagel ($6). They use tempeh bacon, which isn't my favorite---I would have preferred seitan bacon (Upton's brand, if going store-bought), which has better consistency and holds together better. Indeed, the tofu scramble filling on the sandwich felt crumbly and not particularly flavorful. It was also scalding-hot, so maybe they overcooked things? The bagel was good, though, as was the vegan peanut butter cookie ($2). Come to Breadhive for a cup of tea, a baked good and maybe a vegan sandwich. read more

The wife and I ordered the Courtney sandwich and a pretzel to share. The pretzel was on point, although to be honest I didn't like the sandwich as much as I thought I would...but I'm mostly blaming myself for that. First of all, I started with the pretzel, so naturally I was on salt overload before even taking the first bite of sandwich. And that's where I made my next mistake. I ordered the sandwich on an everything bagel, which continued the saltfest. My third blunder was ordering only water to drink, thereby renouncing any relief from the sodium assault. As good (and big) as the sandwich looked, and as much as I love Boars Head pastrami, little flavor rose above the saltiness. 3.5 stars based mainly on the very reasonable sandwich price ($6) and tasty pretzel/mustard.
