I got the tuna melt, and it was all right. It just seemed very basic. The tuna salad itself didn't wow me, and the sandwich as a whole didn't taste too different than any other tuna melt I've had. This place has great sandwiches and sweets but the customer service is HORRIBLE. The owner was very rude and unpleasant and almost borderline rascist. He spoke to me as if he was disgusted to answer me. The cashiers in the front are snooty too. Barely say good morning it's like the moment you ask more than one question they get annoyed and short with you. This place knows how to make a damn good sandwich. Bread & Spread has been on my radar for a while, but I couldn't seem to find the time to get over to DUMBO. Thankfully, they prioritized my comfort and moved right down the street from me to this Doordash kitchen. The porchetta is just about everything I want from a sandwich. It's stacked high, but not too high, with thin slices of roasted, herby pork belly and provolone. There's pickled red onions for acid and texture, arugula to freshen it all up, and the excellent ciabatta is swabbed with a red pepper jam that ties it all together. Someone thought very deeply about balance, and flavor, and I will be eating this sandwich on a regular basis. It comes in at $16 + tax and tip (not cheap), but they also threw some unexpected fries in there, which was a nice bonus. I don't think they did that just for me, so you'll probably get them too. The space is a bit nondescript, but they have a surprising amount of seating with big windows and bright natural light, including a decent view of the street. The folks who bring you your food are nice enough, and the Doordash kitchen thing is pretty convenient because you can pick up a couple types of food if for some reason your family doesn't want DELICIOUS SANDWICHES (Parm is in here too). read more

When I heard they moved to a new location (now in Downtown Brooklyn), I was worried that they would suffer a decline in quality but I'm happy to report that's not the case. Sandwiches are as good as ever, prices remain reasonable, and they kept their menu the same, as far as I can tell! They now do pickup and delivery only (you need to order through their website); I miss when they had their own storefront in Dumbo but the new one does come with some benefits (more seating, a bathroom). So far, I have tried their breakfast, porchetta, and short rib sandwiches and all are delicious. Def recommend getting the aji verde on the breakfast sandwich (all ingredients came together well; I wish the eggs cooked more runny instead of hard, but that's a personal preference). Porchetta sandwich tastes a bit like an elevated pizza in sandwich form, and the beef short rib is unique and very flavorful. Not sure I can choose a favorite! read more

I tried Bread & Spread when they had a storefront over a year ago i remember throughly enjoying my sandwich so i wanted to return since my doctor is in the area. I was surprised to see that their new location is a DoorDash ghost kitchen and honestly was very confused trying to the find the place as none of the kiosk in the ghost kitchen feature bread and spread and there's no sign stating they're operating in the facility. The woman at the desk asked me what I was looking for and I showed her bread and spread and she confirmed they do operate out of this location but I have to make my order through the bread and spread website. I asked her how long it would take and she let me know earlier sandwiches were taking 30+ minutes but she doesn't know how long now. I placed an order online and they uncharge cheese for 2.00 and bacon for an additional 2.50, on top of 8.00 for the base egg sandwich but for pickup they also add an automatic tip of 10% which I found kinda strange and outrageous on top of also paying platform fees along with the taxes so the bacon egg and cheese came out to 16.85 which is honestly insane for a breakfast sandwich. I noticed it came with a hash brown now which I guess is a way to try to justify to high price tag but upon inspection the hash brown was drowning in grease which was a major turn off it also means that whoever fried it didn't fry the hash brown correctly and the oil wasn't hot enough when they dropped it in. My sandwich also barely had bacon, you could barely taste bacon I think for 16.85 you should at least have a sufficient amount of bacon especially when you pay an extra 2.50 for it. It says 2 slices but felt more like one slice ripped in half. I took two bites of the greasy hash brown and my fingers were covered in grease and my stomachs started to hurt so I ended up throwing it out + they don't provide napkins. Unfortunately this was a big let down, and I don't this bread & spread will survive for much longer. I only give it 3 stars because overall the ingredients were still pretty fresh but tomato was going a bit soft. read more

I tried Bread & Spread for lunch while in Brooklyn. It was a cozy but small interior and possibly better for picking up an order and eating it outside by the water when it's nice out. It can get pretty crowded during peak lunch hours, though. The sandwhiches all looked delicious and it was hard to pick just one to order. I got the Turkey sandwhich in the end and enjoyed it a lot. The porchetta is a perfect sandwich. I wouldn't change anything about it. The ciabatta is easy to bite into. The sweet bell pepper jam + cheese + pickled red onion all complement each other and round out the flavors. Great sandwich spot in the Dumbo neighborhood. Very busy during lunch hours and the line can go out the door sometimes, granted it is a small spot. There's some seating but it is a tight space. To beat the wait, sometimes I would order online or call ahead. They offer a cash discount. They offer a handful of sandwiches but I've only tried their chicken banh mi, which is absolutely as good as the ones from authentic Vietnamese spots. I did had my doubts going in -- my exact thoughts were ... well, what does an American sandwich spot know about banh mi? I didn't go in expecting authentic taste but I was surprised by the first bite. The pickled radish and carrots were to my liking and the chicken is different from the usual protein in a banh mi but nevertheless, very flavorful and not dry at all. I paid $18 for one of the worst sandwiches I have had in a long time. I got the cheese steak. All you need to do is look at the picture I attached to my review to know this is nothing like a cheese steak. They did not even use any of the same ingredients! Instead of the classic cheesesteak meat (beefsteak) or the most delicious version (ribeye) they used short rib. There were no onions or peppers. It was dry and there was barely any meat or cheese on it. Mostly just mediocre bread. Please call this sandwich something else because it is not a cheesesteak. Also I am not a chip person and they did not offer my the option to have any other side. I would have ordered fries or something else if given the option. Ok, this place has really good sandwiches. I mean it's something you'd expect if the name has "bread" and "spread" in it. Anyway, it's summer and I've been taking walks from my apartment to BK Bridge Park as my way of not going to the gym but still getting my weekly exercise. I'll usually bring a snack with me (say, like some cut-up watermelons or something healthy). I came across Bread & Spread on one of my walks. It was then and there that these healthy walks to the pier were no longer. Known for their Porchetta Sandwich (thinly sliced kurobuta pork belly with garlic and fennel, picked red onions, arugula, red pepper spread, aged provolone, on ciabatta- $15, which is pretty steep for a sandwich, but, hey, inflation?), I, of course, ordered the signature Porchetta Sandwich. Because, why would I order anything else? Well, actually, I almost went for the Short Rib Sandwich. Instead, I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich (kurobuta ham, cheddar cheese, red pepper jam on ciabatta- $11). Can you believe it? I ordered a second sandwich for myself, and the purpose for my walks to the pier was to shed off those pounds. SHAMELESS. The place isn't big. There are a couple tables and chairs inside and a small table outside. It's probably better to just get it takeaway and stroll down to the pier. The over-enthusiastic guy cashier took my order. I mean I was already pretty excited to try their Porchetta, but the energy this guy was bringing was incredible. He was really friendly and walked me through the build-your-own Breakfast Sandwich which they serve all day. It comes with fried eggs, arugula, and a spread. You can add-on meat and cheese to it. A pro-tip for you. If you pay with cash, you save the 3.5% transaction fee that you otherwise incur using a credit card. There's a Chase Bank across the street if you really want those savings. It didn't take long for them to prepare the two sandwiches (5 minutes max!). Anyway, when I got to the pier, I told myself I was going to eat half the sandwich. But, I literally devoured both pre-cut halves. I'm horrible. A piece of the fatty pork belly fell onto the wax paper and I slurped that up too. I was very thankful that I had the Breakfast Sandwich to nosh on for later. Admittedly, I'm a big eater (duh, again, I ordered TWO sandwiches for myself). They were large portions, and I was "satisfied" even after the first half of the Porchetta. I just couldn't resist eating the other half. I mean I could've and should've. But, knowing that the other half of that juicy sandwich sitting beside me, it didn't stand a chance. Anyway, I digress. I would absolutely come back here to try their Short Rib Sandwich. I don't think I'd get the Breakfast Sandwich because I can get that at my corner bodega (minus the ciabatta). And oh yeah, I'd get the Porchetta again. read more
