This place knows how to make a damn good sandwich. Bread & Spread has been on my radar for a while, but I couldn't seem to find the time to get over to DUMBO. Thankfully, they prioritized my comfort and moved right down the street from me to this Doordash kitchen. The porchetta is just about everything I want from a sandwich. It's stacked high, but not too high, with thin slices of roasted, herby pork belly and provolone. There's pickled red onions for acid and texture, arugula to freshen it all up, and the excellent ciabatta is swabbed with a red pepper jam that ties it all together. Someone thought very deeply about balance, and flavor, and I will be eating this sandwich on a regular basis. It comes in at $16 + tax and tip (not cheap), but they also threw some unexpected fries in there, which was a nice bonus. I don't think they did that just for me, so you'll probably get them too. The space is a bit nondescript, but they have a surprising amount of seating with big windows and bright natural light, including a decent view of the street. The folks who bring you your food are nice enough, and the Doordash kitchen thing is pretty convenient because you can pick up a couple types of food if for some reason your family doesn't want DELICIOUS SANDWICHES (Parm is in here too).
Food: The breakfast sandwich is delicious and high quality here! Breakfast sandwiches come with two eggs, arugula, tomato and your choice of bread, cheese, meat and a spread. They also have a variety of other sandwiches but their menu is small and simple. I would definitely come back to try their other sandwiches. Service: Staff are friendly. There's not much to say about service because it's a self-serve spot after you order and get your food. Water and condiments are in the counter and you help yourself to everything. Ambiance: The place is small with only a few tables for seating. Not a good spot for large groups. Overall, I would recommend this sandwich spot!
I tried Bread & Spread when they had a storefront over a year ago i remember throughly enjoying my sandwich so i wanted to return since my doctor is in the area. I was surprised to see that their new location is a DoorDash ghost kitchen and honestly was very confused trying to the find the place as none of the kiosk in the ghost kitchen feature bread and spread and there's no sign stating they're operating in the facility. The woman at the desk asked me what I was looking for and I showed her bread and spread and she confirmed they do operate out of this location but I have to make my order through the bread and spread website. I asked her how long it would take and she let me know earlier sandwiches were taking 30+ minutes but she doesn't know how long now. I placed an order online and they uncharge cheese for 2.00 and bacon for an additional 2.50, on top of 8.00 for the base egg sandwich but for pickup they also add an automatic tip of 10% which I found kinda strange and outrageous on top of also paying platform fees along with the taxes so the bacon egg and cheese came out to 16.85 which is honestly insane for a breakfast sandwich. I noticed it came with a hash brown now which I guess is a way to try to justify to high price tag but upon inspection the hash brown was drowning in grease which was a major turn off it also means that whoever fried it didn't fry the hash brown correctly and the oil wasn't hot enough when they dropped it in. My sandwich also barely had bacon, you could barely taste bacon I think for 16.85 you should at least have a sufficient amount of bacon especially when you pay an extra 2.50 for it. It says 2 slices but felt more like one slice ripped in half. I took two bites of the greasy hash brown and my fingers were covered in grease and my stomachs started to hurt so I ended up throwing it out + they don't provide napkins. Unfortunately this was a big let down, and I don't this bread & spread will survive for much longer. I only give it 3 stars because overall the ingredients were still pretty fresh but tomato was going a bit soft.
No Vietnamese techniques are applied to this Vietnamese sandwich. The little meat to overwhelming vegetable ratio is extremely disappointing. To make it worse, the vegetables are poorly pickled too. Felt like I was eating carrots straight out of the ground, which is not a Banh Mi trait.
Honestly probably one of if not the best artisan breakfast sandwich I've had in quite a while. I got the ciabatta bread, chipotle mayo, and turkey bacon. Also came with a hash brown that I didn't know about but was perfectly crispy. 10/10 def ordering again! Fyi- I don't know if they are under construction or something but did not have a store front. Ordered from a QR code sign and picked up at a window so there's no seating
I tried Bread & Spread for lunch while in Brooklyn. It was a cozy but small interior and possibly better for picking up an order and eating it outside by the water when it's nice out. It can get pretty crowded during peak lunch hours, though. The sandwhiches all looked delicious and it was hard to pick just one to order. I got the Turkey sandwhich in the end and enjoyed it a lot. I'd definitely come back to try their banh mi sandwhich in the future!

The porchetta is a perfect sandwich. I wouldn't change anything about it. The ciabatta is easy to bite into. The sweet bell pepper jam + cheese + pickled red onion all complement each other and round out the flavors. The pork is chopped up well and is evenly distributed so chunks aren't all coming out at once. It also was such a clean sandwich to eat - like nothing dripping and barely any crumbs.
I recently dropped by Bread & Spread for a quick bite during lunch time. It's a small - but cozy - shop. I ordered a Breakfast Sandwich, which had eggs, arugula, tomatoes, avocado, turkey bacon, American cheese, and chipotle mayo on a multigrain bread. Service was quick, and I had my sandwich within minutes of sitting down. The sandwich was filling and had great flavor, but the eggs were a bit too runny for my taste. However, I did appreciate that the bread slices were thick enough that they didn't get easily soggy by all the ingredients.
Pros: -$5 breakfast sandwiches (meat and cheese are upcharges) -Some outdoor seating Great place to get a tasty and inexpensive breakfast sandwich! Loved the soft ciabatta.
Bread & Spread is a small sandwich restaurant in Dumbo. They have a few tables inside but I enjoy taking the sandwich to-go and eating it by the water which is a ~5 min walk away. I got the BLT which also comes with chips on the side. It wasn't the best BLT I've ever had and for $12, it's not necessarily "cheap", but it's a good option if you want a quick bite in the area.

Nice little hole in the wall place! The beef short rib sandwich is pretty good and reasonably priced! A lot of seating inside and the staff is very friendly! The sandwich was pretty good ! Good amount of meat and jam, just wish there were more pickled shallots to balance the flavors. would definitely get again! read more

Amazing beef short rib sandwich! Came here on a whim and the cashier recommended this perfect sandwich to me. Everything was done so well, crispy bread, juicy beef, tangy/sweet sauce. It was a great snack when split by two people. With tip and all, it ended up being $20 which is a little steep for a sandwich. But I just had to indulge! read more

We found this gem after we visited the flea market. We were looking everywhere for cheaper food and we were so discouraged by the smell from one of the restaurants in the area. When we were almost giving up, we came across their door and thought they are closed because the door wasn't huge and super welcoming. BUT!!!! We went in anyway because we have no self control and too curious. SO GLAD we weren't too shy to go in because we would have missed such an amazing little restaurant. There's not much option but a few good ones are already good enough. Everything sound very good so even though there's not a ton of options, I still had a hard time choosing. We ended up getting the beef short rib with blueberry jam and arugula. I was a little iffy in the beginning because I'm not a big fan of the peppery/bitter taste of arugula but it works! It works so damn well. Me and my bf are foodies and we are not easy to satisfy. But this sandwich hit all the right places and we left full, happy, and very very satisfied. read more

There is not much customer service going on here. You are on your own here haha. The person behind the counter was facetiming their friend when I came in. The service is also slow so be ready for that. Not a ton of choices here but they do have some specials. $13 for a small porcetta sandwich is a bit much but it was good. Porcetta is hard to find so great to see them doing it right. The steak sandwich special was not steak. It was short rib so I didn't get why they named it steak. When I ordered it the staff almost seemed surprised. The chicken caprese sandwich tasted like a chicken and mozzarella sandwich. It wasn't too kicked up and was pretty average. Not sure this place justifies the high rating. The porcetta sandwich was the standout so if you come I would definitely order that. Other than that everything was average. read more

I've had the porchetta sandwich years ago and it was phenomenal. Went back not long ago during covid times and snagged a beef short rib sandwich. Really not much to say, they make crazy delicious sandwiches and do not skimp on the meat. I wish they had a location in the city. Just get a drink and pack napkins. It's gonna be a deliciously messy ride. read more

I'm not a big breakfast person, but on terrible and/or slightly hungover workdays, my favorite mid-morning indulgence was always Bread and Spread's breakfast sandwich (ciabatta, bacon, cheddar, with arugula, tomato, and extra hot sauce) and a cold brew. This is the best upgraded breakfast sandwich that money can buy - especially in DUMBO, where I count Sweetgreen as a 'cheap' lunch option. Definitely not your standard bodega BEC, but if you're looking for something slightly extra ('slightly extra': the title of my memoir), this is the one. Now that we are all homebound, this is no longer a local option for me, but I honestly think about walking 90 minutes to get one sometimes. Also, one time I was here and one of the employees was giving out samples of gluten-free banana bread she had baked (which sadly, they weren't selling by the slice). This banana bread was so good I would occasionally walk by just to look in the window and see if they had any. I never encountered it again, but maybe when the world reopens I'll have more luck??? Anyway, the moral of this story is that if you are close enough to get takeout or delivery from Bread and Spread, you 100% should - and I will live vicariously through your meal. read more

This place really hits the spot! Tried the Breakfast sandwich, grilled cheese, and beef short rib. The breakfast sandwich and grilled cheese were solid, but the short rib is spectacular. Juicy meat, and the gingered shallot and blackberry jam cuts the fat and balances out the flavor well. Not to mention they have a wide variety of hot sauces available if you dine-in! (reminiscent of Firehouse Subs) Highly recommend and will be back to try the other sandwiches. read more

Picking up a porchetta sandwich and walking it to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a meal by the water made for a delightful afternoon. We could just stop at the fact that the sandwich itself was beautifully constructed and tasty, but can't fail to mention the helpful staff who was happy to explain the menu in detail! read more

Bread and Spread is my new favorite lunch spot in the neighborhood. I know this restaurant has existed here for a few years tucked away and hidden inside of the building next door, but it was only after their move to a standalone storefront that I visited. Still, the place is relatively hidden from street view, so you may walk right past it without discovering this gem. I've been twice now, each time getting one of their specialty sandwiches from the menu above the counter. The first time, I grabbed the Tuscan Roast Turkey sandwich which includes moist sliced turkey, crispy onions, and a delicious cranberry mustard on a toasted hero. This was right around Thanksgiving so it hit all the right nostalgic spots, also well balanced with the fats of the meat, sweetness and a little sour from the mustard, and crispy saltiness from the onions. The next time I went I tried their Beef Short Rib sandwich and my life was changed! Short rib, gingered shallot, blackberry jam, swiss cheese, all on a sourdough roll, this master creation was perfect in every way. My new favorite sandwich in the city. Reasonably priced for the neighborhood, and exceedingly delicious, do yourself a favor and go find Bread & Spread. read more

Bread & Spread is tucked away inside of an office building to the side. It was pretty difficult to find. Owners seemed nice enough and I think we were one of the first people there. We didn't have to wait at all so that was nice. Our sandwiches were freshly made and it was easy to tell that they use quality ingredients. We had the chicken sandwich and the turkey sandwich and they were packed up nicely. Just a heads up-- the place is tiny and they have a few stools on which you can sit and eat but there isn't much space. Food was decent and clean but there wasn't anything amazing about the sandwiches in my opinion. I'd go back if I happened to be walking by but I wouldn't go out of my way.. Note that I did not have the porchetta sandwich, which everyone seems to be raving about. So maybe that's why I didn't enjoy my food as much. read more

Solid sandwich joint with large, fresh options. For a bit over $10 you get a filling, flavorful lunch. Mine actually lasted two lunches, for me. I had the porchetta, with a generous amount of fatty pork belly inside. The ciabatta bread was nice, as well as the slightly bitter greens. It was a bit heavy for me, but they do have some lighter veggie or chicken sandwiches that seem delicious. The breakfast egg sandwich seems like a great deal. read more

I dropped by as I was exploring the Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO. The inside of the shop is pretty small. They have about 5 tables. The workers were really friendly. I got the prochetta sandwich and it was amazing. The pork belly was juicy and tender. It was a little fatty too, which made the meat melt in my mouth. The topping on the sandwich went really well with the pork. It had arugula, red pepper spread, capers, and provolone cheese. The bread was toasted perfectly because the inside of the bread was still soft. The sandwich is $16 so about $20 with tip. I think it was a little bit overpriced, but the sandwich itself was a 5/5. read more

I also got their soup once and it was pretty good. There are times when the line gets pretty long, so if you don't see a line, then you're lucky! Some of the very best sandwiches in New York - I've had them all, many times! This place is also tucked in the cutest little hideaway across from Chase Bank at Jay and Front in DUMBO. It's easy to miss but don't give up, it's well worth the hunt! read more
