Croissant, Chocolate Croissant, Blueberry Muffin & Cheddar Scallion Scone

Julie V.

the food is always so delicious & tastes fresh no matter how long it's out in the display, definitely made with quality ingredients & with love :) love the workers and they're so kind with great service. the spot is a cute little space enough for a line to form & maybe do computer work. definitely recommend going on tuesdays and thursday's to get their cheddar scallion scone it's so yum & their bubble tea is so fresh & yum the taro is like no other

A small cafe providing coffee and boba to the surrounding neighborhood. Ample space to sit inside if you choose to. Ordered a jasmine milk tea with boba. Jasmine was a bit more subtle than I would've liked, but the small bit of fragrance to it was nice. The boba was chewy and sweetened so having the drink less sweet was perfect. A friendly neighborhood spot on par with chain milk tea places.

Was in the area this weekend when my bf was looking for some coffee. We stumbled upon this spot, where he got an iced americano w/ oat milk and I got an iced turmeric latte w/ almond milk. I really wanted to love this spot (since I believe it's Asian owned) and my drink, but I have to say my iced turmeric just tasted like ...milk. I know turmeric is usually pretty subtle, but the drink was super bland. Wouldn't recommend, especially for $7. Perhaps it's better as a hot drink? Bf's americano was good, standard coffee. Also interesting that the oat milk cost 40 cents while the almond was $1. We did notice the Asian buns as other reviewers had mentioned and they looked really good - didn't get to try them this time around. The cafe was pretty quiet, as we sat for a little to drink. Turmeric drink aside, would love a bakery like this closer to our neighborhood.

They make the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. It has an incredible balance of everything that makes a great cookie. The edges are crispy. The perfect amount of chocolate that's gooey. It's hearty. Not overly sweet.

Shea D.

This place might just have the best Thai milk tea boba I've ever had!! I only wish they were open on the weekends--I live right around the corner and would come all the time.

Ok, correction, 5 stars. I love this place. 2 important pieces for me: great americano using quality beans, and well-balanced, aromatic, chai latte. New exciting drinks. & Also, a talented barista! She has technique down, and has a signature latte art heart that matches the cute teaspoon with a heart on it. La Colombe coffee. The barista was legit. Had a nice americano and then tried a non caffeinated pea latte. It was blue, creamy, and earthy tasting. Would like to try the turmeric latte (also non caffeinated) and possibly a bun or hot dog filled bun if I were in the mood. Cute dainty spoons, with hearts on them.

Is it pricey? Heck yea. Is it worth it? Every penny. I have tried almost every coffee place in close proximity to Bread and Joe, and nothing beats them. There mocha iced coffee is ahhhmazing! The staff is always so friendly and kind. They serve the most outstadning baked items that it just blows my mind how fresh there selection is. They bake 99% of the stuff showcased. You must try anything with the bread they bake in house, and the chocolate chip cookies are just out of this world. The coffee is strong and the food is tasty. They have a card that after a certain amount of visits you get a free coffee. I did not like the matcha donuts but mostly becuase they were a bit too bitter for me. If you love matcha that is your donut. TIP: They sell out quick of the ham and egg in the morning. Cons: They charge an extra 75 cents for soy or almond milk instead of regualr milk, so a iced mocha will be almost 6 dollars with almond milk.

Chocolate croissant and iced dirty chai latte

Cute hole in the wall with about 3 tables and seating along the window. I got an iced dirty chai which was pretty good, but I couldn't really taste the espresso. I also got nice, light and flaky chocolate croissant. I really wanted to try their matcha donuts but they were out. Next time! Four stars bc I called yesterday to see if they were open since the 3 times I've tried to visit this place they've always closed 10-15 minutes before their closing hours (M-F 6:30-5pm, Sat 8-4pm, and Sun closed). Worth a stop if you're in the area!

Tiffany V.

Cute little bakery steps away from the R train. Suitable for small groups as they have tables seating parties of two. I'd say maximum occupancy is about 8. They have a couple of baked goods..some Chinese breads (ham & egg, ham, egg, & cheese, hot dog buns. There's also a nice selection of muffins and drinks. We ordered a matcha latte, draft latte, and regular ice coffee in addition to ham egg buns. You can't go wrong with a La Colombe draft :). It was good. The matcha was pretty straight forward but if you don't like a heavy bitter matcha taste consider adding sugar to it. Its not sweet without it. The ham and egg bun was average. I'm used to the bread part having a more sweet taste to it but it was still a good snack. Prices are pretty high but it doesn't look like they have much competition in the area. I didn't notice any other Asian bakeries in the area. We paid $21 total. Would come here every now and then but it probably won't be my go to spot!

Sean K.

Good cold brew and nice and quiet vibes. Seems like a grab and go type of cafe but there are tables where you can read or bring a friend. No wifi sadly but otherwise, a nice rest spot on an otherwise empty avenue. Baristas at the counter were pretty nice too.

Kathleen S.

Very good matcha green tea-glazed donut with a cake consistency. It's not too sweet, and the cake texture is reasonably light. On the small size compared to what other places sell, but perfect for the richness. While the prices aren't expensive, they're of course more expensive and smaller than what you'd find in Chinatown or Sunset Park. However, I'm willing to bet the quality of ingredients is higher and the service much friendlier.

Gary M.

If you're tired of coffee chains like Starbucks, this is the place to check out. Bread & Joe offers you traditional beverages and more. If you want to try something new and untraditional, try the Hong Kong style milk tea and the Thai iced tea. You will not be disappointed. Also, don't forget to try their baked goods. They bake everything in-house unlike Starbucks! The matcha donut seems to be the next big thing so give it a try. Unlike the traditional donut, it's baked, not fried! Prices are very comparable to other chains so your wallet won't be hurting. Location is close to the R line so don't forget to get your Bread & Joe before you hop on the subway!

These guys are really the best. I'm not sure which one I like more, Bread or Joe . Either way, their coffee is great, especially the draft La Colombe cold brew (I go for the Black n Tan). I love their pastries, especially the ham and cheese and red bean paste buns. Nutella bun is heavenly! (Bring it back!) and the Kouign Amann is up there too. Tried a pork bun, an iced drip coffee, and a matcha bubble tea. It was all really good. I worked in Chinatown for a while and tried lots and lots of pork buns... This one beats any of the ones I've tried in the past. Friendly staff, very thoughtful and helpful. As I came in alone to get my husband and myself drinks - one of the staff offered me a drink holder to make it more convenient... totally unexpected and very appreciated! Looking forward to going back next time I have a boba craving. read more

1. La Colombe coffee is the best around 2. The barista knows how to make an actual cappuccino, not this milk with a splash of coffee that half of New York City makes 3. These guys bake their own pastries and they're spectacular...how does one make a brownie that is dense AND fluffy at the same time? 4. Not only are their pastries and coffee fantastic, the two guys who run the cafe are super nice and friendly! The pastries are unique with matcha donuts and egg tarts that they make fresh in house. Their espresso tastes great and the matcha latte is so refreshing on a hot spring day! For the adventurous types, try the matcha cafe latte -- super interesting mix of matcha and espresso that somehow works and keeps you super caffeinated for a long time. Also they have a great "after 5pm" discount, which for any late-night studying student is awesome. read more

BUBBLE TEA!!! Yum! Good coffee - La Colombe. Good bread - I've tried almost everything in my daily morning stop there and really like the egg custard and matcha donut. We needed a place like this on this side of town. My new favorites are the coconut custard and the red bean swirl bun! The red bean is swirled into the yummy chewy bread. And they have amazing Black and Tan - it's half draft latte and half cold brew. Service is awesome and the guys there seem to know each of their customers by name. read more

Top notch. I had a custom order of the pineapple bun (asked if I could get it with some melted butter inside) and was amazed by how everything is baked on premise with such dedication. I also ordered an iced chai latte. Its one of my go to drinks at cafes. Hands down one of the best chai lattes I've had :3. I also tried my friend's matcha latte and scone and those were on point too. They seem to really care about the quality of everything they make and take pride in what they provide. The service was also gracious. I stayed for a while after my friend had left to get some school work done and one of the owners offered me a sample of their cold brew. Will be back ^^ read more

My go to drink - the cappuccino - is never a disappointment. Besides the coffee, they got some pretty delicious pastries/buns, and affordable. Was walking around the neighborhood this morning looking for a coffee/tea shop to do some work and came across this place. Free wi-fi, which is great! I was pleasantly surprised with their selection of baked goods. The matcha donut was delicious. The plain croissant was interesting in that it tasted more of a Chinese style bread than a typical flaky "European" croissant. I liked it, but I also like Chinese baked goods! Good ending point for a run out of prospect park and finishing an extra mile out of the 15st exit...I had the ham and egg bun and hot dog bun with a Black and Tan cold brew. I confirmed with the staff that the board menu lists $5 for a 16oz -- so I expected the larger size, but got the smaller one without it being made clear. Prices are reasonable otherwise, but the size labeling was misleading. The chai was a bit watery, but the maple latte was solid! Their espresso drinks are little too acidic/burnt tasting to me and the chai latte is SO watery. It barely has any chai flavor.. not sure if it's because I substituted milk for almond milk? But I don't think that should matter I've also tried their jalapeño cheddar scone which was quite dry. Their sandwiches seem to be popular which I'm still open to try, but I'd definitely skip on the drinks

I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That's pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The "burger" comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I also ordered a Moroccan egg salad sandwich which was substantive but surprisingly bland--sparse with the advertised capers and pickled red onions to give it more punch. I've always loved the look of the spot and the vibe--funky decor, outside and indoor facing counters to order, with some outdoor seating for people watching on Dekalb or heading nearby Ft. Some of the staff are genuinely excellent, but the ones who aren't completely ruin the place. The rude employees are shockingly unpleasant--attitude for no reason, short responses, and zero sense of customer service. It's honestly unbelievable that they think this is acceptable. No customer should feel like they're inconveniencing someone just by asking for what they paid for. They get away with this behavior because they're the only shop on 6th Ave for a stretch, and it shows. This kind of mediocrity and rudeness is exactly why people hesitate to support local businesses. If they didn't have a monopoly on the area, I doubt they'd survive a week running things this way. Overall, extremely disappointing.
