Not just bad service (Austin Location), ATTITUDE! This 80-yr old went there 5/29/2018 to select and buy 8/4 hardwood in up to 12' length for furniture project. First, unlike their competitor Fine Lumber in Austin, Brazos would not allow me into the warehouse to view species before deciding. I was told I had to wait in the "showroom" and samples would be brought out. We're talking about 2" x 12" by up to 12' heavy hardwood. Fine lets you on your own in the warehouse to pre-select from all species they carry. Second (and worst), before samples were brought out, I simply said I wanted the 12 foot length cut in two pieces so as to fit in my vehicle. "We don't cut lumber." "But I saw your huge chop saw setup!" "I know." "But you won't cut the twelve foot piece in half?" "No. But I'll lend you my hand saw." "You're kidding." "No." "Good-bye." A hand saw? I of course proceeded to Fine Lumber where I selected two 8/4 pieces; mahogany and white oak, each 12' by 13" by 12'. They happily cut them for me. After my last review I swore I would not step foot in Brazos again. Well, I had to go back. I needed one more set of specific drawer slides to finish a large job and this location was the only place that had them in stock. Believe me, I looked everywhere. It was my last resort. While I was checking out the head manager approached me and asked if we could talk in his office. He said he was aware of my previous dealings and wanted to try to work something out. I figured the man wanted to hear my side of the situation and offer some sort of concession. Boy was I wrong! As soon as I sat down in his office, he began chewing me a new one. He was mad because I wrote a negative review on yelp and FB. He had no intentions of making the situation right. He just wanted to vent his anger on a customer. Everytime I tried to speak he got louder. I don't think I was able to finish a sentence without him interrupting. Within a minute or two he got to the point where he was throwing his hands in the air, red in the face and literally screaming at me! At that point, I stood up and walked out. This is the treatment you can expect from this location. I went to Dakota lumber a few miles down the road and meet another cabinet builder who told me a very similar story about Brazos. Seem to me they are gaining a reputation amongst the locals. I've had good experiences with Fine lumber and Dakota. Unless this Brazos location hires new management, Don't waste your time here. read more

Worst customer service! This guy at the front "Jonathan" had me waiting 47 minutes to take my order. He was putting together phone orders for the next day, while the customer (ME) waited for him to finish, all of the sudden he will disappear into the warehouse, while I waited at the counter. This is not the first time he does this, but this time he just exceeded my patience. His favorite thing to say to customers, " I'm almost done with this order BUD, I will be with you as soon as I can" Brazos, the company should really tech employees customer service skills, take care of the customers in front of you and then take care of phone orders while you don't have a customer in the store, just common sense, If you can, PLEASE avoid this place, unless you want to spend an hour to get 2 sheets of 1/4" plywood read more

If you weren't thrilled with their service in Austin, don't waste your time at the Houston location either. Review below: This place SUCKS! Period end of story. I went in trying to seek out new wood for an upcoming project. Unlike other mills in the area these guys won't let you go and look. You need to know up front what you want, blah blah blah. Oh they have a 65,000 sq. ft. warehouse full of wood, you just can't go see any of it!!!! I then asked for a price list showing what species of woods they carry and accompanying prices. HA. They act like it is a government top secret with a line like, "oh we don't publish a pricelist." Well I guess you don't want my business because when I go into ANY store in the country, I can look at the inventory, see what I want and shop pricing. Morons! Told them to burn in hell, they lost a $2000+ sale (and any future sales) for crap customer service. What is sick is they came recommended by others in the woodworking community. For that much aggravation, I'll stick with Mason's Mill and Houston Hardwoods where at least I can walk the warehouse floor without a shadow AND I have a pricelist (IN HAND) or at least an idea of what to expect in price BEFORE I commit to buying. I'd give more stars IF they had more help at the counter, when I called to review what I wanted they were swift and thorough BUT in person I'm appalled at the lack of guys at the counter. I saw what looked like several owners running around, one even said hello and another asked me to move my vehicle from the loading dock but only one guy was working the counter. Only an idiot would go to a wholesale cabinet supplier to buy materials and then complain "if you are not a commercial cabinet maker don't even bother with these guys". That's like going to a Ford dealership and then complaining "if you aren't looking for a Ford, don't even bother going to this dealership". Brazos is a high volume supplier to cabinet professionals. Sure, if you walk in off the street as a layman they will probably sell you something... but that's not what they DO. That's not their bread and butter. Also, if you aren't smart enough to check your materials before they are loaded--or before you leave the warehouse--you're the idiot, not the vendor. These guys are moving around tons and tons of plywood and solid wood every day... things can get damaged. Caveat emptor applies everywhere in life. And you just complained that the "quality" of their materials is "crap"... because it had a forklift gouge on one side. That doesn't speak to the quality of the veneer at all. The best plywood in the world can get damaged by a forklift. And 90% or more of the time you don't see BOTH sides of the plywood in a cabinet project. In fact, with higher end veneers, most of the time only ONE side of the sheet has the veneer on it... to keep from wasting good veneer that will never be seen. I've been using Brazos for many years. I'm not a giant commercial cabinet maker... but I'm also not a layman walking in off the street with no knowledge (or no sense). I know enough to visually inspect ALL of my materials before they are loaded. And to cull out warped or otherwise damaged materials. It's woodworking 101. Brazos, like any other vendor, is only as good as the available materials in the marketplace. Brazos doesn't MAKE any of their products. They are a wholesaler. A supplier. A re-seller. It is certainly frustrating when you buy something--neglect to inspect it--get it all the way back to your house or shop--and discover that it is damaged or defective. It has certainly happened to all of us at one time or another. The measure of a companies customer service is how they handle the return or replacement of the product--which your review does not mention. I'm assuming by the fact that you neglected to discuss this aspect of your experience that Brazos replaced the plywood when you returned it--without question. Generally speaking, Brazos sells higher volumes of cabinet and furniture making materials--and hardware--to cabinet professionals. If you are looking for things like veneer core or mdf core plywoods and / or solid lumber (in species like oak, pine, poplar, alder, ash, maple, cherry, cedar, cypress, fir, ebony, ipe, mahogany, teak, walnut, wenge, etc), hardware (like drawer slides, hinges, knobs / pulls, etc), tools (mainly blades and router bits), and various other cabinet making sundries--these guys are a great option. They also stock quite a few typical / standard mouldings... like crown, base, casing, etc--in solid wood--in a variety of species. (For limited options and small quantities, Home Depot, Lowes, your local lumber yard, etc is probably going to be a better option for you.) Over the years I have always had great customer service from Brazos. But, yeah... it helps if you have a clue what you are looking for; they aren't a big box retailer. read more

If you are not a commercial cabinet maker, don't even bother with these guys. Not only will it take you an eternity to get a few sheets of premium plywood, the quality is crap. I picked up a few sheets of walnut ply for a small custom job. Once I got it to the shop there was an enormous fork lift gouge on the back of the $100 piece of ply. After a 2 hour epic to return it. I looked at the new sheet that was brought to me and it had the same problem. Finally I let them know I needed my money back or I needed to hand select the lumber. They let me. After culling through 8 sheets I finally found one that would work. The quality of the ply I received from them is beyond sub par. The veneer on the ply is so thin that you can barely get 1 sanding at 220. service and quality. 1 star. no thanks guys. Ill pay a little more at Fine Lumber and at least get treated like a human. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes with a full load of walnut in my truck today. All of it perfect. read more

I bought 7 sheets of 3/4" Baltic Birch ply 5'x5' size and every sheet had curbed factory edges! I build my casework exclusively with Baltic Birch and never experienced this in another batch. I couldn't figure out what the heck was going wrong, the first 3 sheets when I cut the first rip on the fence, the edge wandered, and I was thinking my fence had gotten warped somehow. Then I sighted the factory edges of the sheets, and they were all out of straight by at least 1/8" over the 5' length. Both factory rip edges the same, so the sheets measured 60 1/4 in the middle and 60 at the ends. I had to make a guide for the skil saw and make my own straight egde before I could use any of these sheets. By the time I figured out the issue, half the sheets were cut, and I had lost quite a bit of time. Even though these guys are less than 10 min. from my house, the time you spend waiting for them to bring out the material negates this convenience. Not worth going back to argue about crooked sheets of plywood, and in reading other reviews, I'm glad I didn't. If A hot headed manager started yelling at me the way other reviewers have described, after I'm already in a pissed-off state, the outcome would be written in the police report, not a yelp review. read more
