I am a Brazilian national who was raised in the U.S. since I was 5 years old. I love to find Brazilian treasures here when I miss Brasil and feel nostalgic. I have been to this establishment every week for over 5 years. I loved bringing my 3 young children, husband and friends here. However, today I came here with my elderly, injured mother and my young daughter. A young Brazilian cashier with dark, curly hair spoke so disrespectfully to my mother! When I asked her to show some respect to elders (and injured elders at that), she refused to serve us and take our money. What kind of cashier speaks ill to their customers and refuses to take their money!? I feel really badly for the owner of Brazilian Bakery, because he hired a cashier who refuses to sell to his customer. She literally turned our $30 away. And only because I asked her to show some respect to my elderly mother. I was flabbergasted! I asked what is the problem? She said, "The only problem here is your annoying, stupid mother." Inside I wanted to punch her in the face, but because I have class and was raised better, I told her that she is what she called my mother! I promised her that I will inform her manager and other patrons about her awful customer service and disrespect. If you are Brazilian and crave Brazilian food, go to "By Brazil" or the cafe around the corner (Americas). Not only is the food there spectacular, their staff is so respectful and warm, and they never refuse to take your money! Be advised my fellow Brazilian neighbors! read more

I have been to another one of their stores and had an amazing experience. This visit wasn't quite the same. The bakery itself was nice and had seating inside. There was a self-serve area for customers to get rice, beans, and other items. Behind the counter, there was a display with pastries and another with empanadas. I ordered one chicken and a ham and cheese. I also ordered two churros. Once I saw how cheap they were, I asked to add two more. I was accidentally charged for two more empanadas. I told the lady behind the register what happened and she denied that I was charged incorrectly and I had to explain a couple of times before someone else told her exactly what I already told her and she finally fixed it. Overall, I don't think I would go back to this particular location. The empanadas were good but the churros were cold and the customer service wasn't great. read more

My wife and I came for the brazilian hot dog, fresh-made churros, and five other items. The churros are made daily in a limited amount, so get here early before they run out! They sell Brazilian style food, desserts, snacks, and drinks. We visited twice and tried 7 items. 1) Risoles de Presunto e Queijo Ham and cheese risole is the English name. It looked like an empanada. It was deep-fried and had a crispy exterior that was coated with breadcrumbs. It was thick and slightly gooey on the inside. The filling was chopped ham and white cheese. It was savory and slightly salty with a mild blend of salt, pepper, and herbs. Reheat them in an air fryer or oven. Microwaving or deep-frying will ruin the texture and taste. The exterior was tastier than an empanada, but it was average overall. 2) Pastel de Carne com Ovos Beef and eggs pastel is the English name. It was rectangular and had a crispy, thin dough wrap like Chinese spring rolls. It was filled with seasoned ground beef and chopped hard-boiled egg. The beef was a little dry and crumbly. It looked and tasted like it was boiled. The beef flavor was weak with no savoriness! The seasoning had flavors of onion, garlic, and salt. It was so basic! Edible and forgettable. 3) Rocambole Goiabada Guava roll cake is the English name. Rocambole is a Brazilian sponge roll cake made with eggs, flour, sugar, and butter. Goiabada is paste made of red guava and sugar. It was the filling in the cake. The flavor was like slightly sweet strawberry and pear with a hint of tartness. The cake was light and fluffy with an egg yolk flavor. A great dessert if you're looking for a light and fruity cake with modest sweetness. 4) Sonho The name means dream in Portuguese. It is a doughnut made with flour, sugar, milk, eggs, and butter. The doughnut was breadlike with a crisp exterior and plain taste. It had a pastry cream filling that was thick, smooth, and creamy with flavors of vanilla, sweetened condensed milk, and egg yolk. The plain bread wasn't noticeable because there was lots of filling. It's a dream dessert for lovers of sweet pastry cream. 5) Pudim de Leite The name means milk pudding in Portuguese. Brazilian caramel flan is the English name. It was sweet with a strong flavor of caramel, a modest flavor of milk, and weak flavors of condensed milk and egg yolk. It was good, but the weak flavors and lack of vanilla kept it from being great. 6) Churro It was 10 inches long, deep-fried, and covered with lots of cinnamon sugar. It was filled with dulce de leche. The outside was crisp, and the inside was soft, moist, and slightly chewy. The filling had a milky flavor with light notes of caramel. It was a great match to the strong sweetness and spicy cinnamon on the exterior. This is how a churro should be made! 7) Brazilian Hot Dog It had a half smoke hot dog, diced onions, bacon, and mayonnaise topped with Brazilian potato sticks in a french roll. The hot dog was jumbo sized and oily. It was savory and well seasoned with a firm texture that was slightly chewy. The bacon was thick, crispy, and savory with the right amount of salt. The potato sticks were crispy and had a light flavor of fried potatoes with no salt. Everything worked well together to make this flavorful and extremely savory. My only wish is that they add a seasoned tomato sauce. If you love hot dogs, give this a try! The service was polite and attentive. The dining area and restrooms were relatively clean. There were 3 tables and 24 chairs. They had a small buffet table with 15 items and bottles of sauces. The items included 5 entrees, rice, sides, and salads. The buffet costs $10.50 per pound. They are in a shopping center with free parking. This is a casual place with some good Brazilian style desserts, bread, food, and packaged goods along with great churros. The stars were aligned today. At least my travel route was. I was on Georgia Avenue after two items to tick off, and this place was just two miles up the road. Two miles! First off, this place is NOT in the huge Aspen Hill Shopping Center. It is in the Aspen MANOR Shopping Center. A few doors down from Outback, next to Domino's. Go find it. NOW! I was bummed when I found out Brazilian Bakery on New Hampshire Ave. closed because that was sort of on my way home from work. I loved their piping hot, made to order Churros. Well, guess what? This location has them too! However, not made to order, but still delicious. And yes, they are filled with dulce de leche. And yes, they are only $1.50 each. So much cheaper than fancy area restaurants pawning them off for $8.00 or more cut in thirds. Get one. No, get two. Three! Yes, tres! Don't forget to check out their other pastries and savory treats. The Pastel del Queijo, or simply Cheese Empanada is delicious too. Mine was warm. The cheese was ooey, gooey good. They remind me of my Chilean friend's cheese empanadas. These are $4.25, but meal worthy. So many choices. Come see for yourself. I want to see this place back on the Yelp radar. read more

The coxinha is increíble. The dough was hot, fresh and soft. The chicken inside was so well seasoned. The pão de queijo was actually alright. I think if you go there in the morning when everything come out fresh, they would be super delicious. It's definitely a hidden gem in the area. I was on my way home and noticed the sign for this place mentioned Brazilian/African food and looked it up on yelp only to find one picture and no recent reviews. I felt it my duty to return the next day and try some of the items mentioned in the reviews and to take a bunch of pics! I started with the items that previous reviewers talked about like the meat patties, the yucca, the cheese bread, etc... I also tried the sandwich with all the works and it didn't disappoint. Cheese Bread....very good, flaky crust and ooey gooey cheesy goodness. Meat pattie.....great bread, meat a little dry and could have used more spice Coxinha...filled to overflowing with chicken, very yummy but needed some kind of dipping sauce or more seasoning. Ham and Cheese pastry....one of my favorites and would go great with spicy mustard Yucca "pastry"....decent but a bit dry and also needed some kind of sauce. I really wanted to dip it in the hot sauce mayo based sauce that you get from Crisp N Juicy. Hot dog wrapped in some of starchy food and deep fried....good with mustard or catsup. The number 8 Sandwich with had everything but the kitchen sink on it and it was so good, the corn somehow worked on this sandwich. I wouldn't change a thing. I also grabbed some short ribs and a kebab from the hot bar and the short ribs just made my eyes roll. Awesome! Dessert....a yucca, cheese "cake" It was a bit odd and different and not sweet at all but I liked it. It was great with some hot coffee. The first time I went in the cashier wasn't too knowledgeable about the offerings but we went back the next day and the cashier knew her stuff. I posted pics of the interior and the food that I got so take a look to get an idea of what I'm referring to. I'm not too familiar with Brazilian food but I look forward to trying more items and I will update and add more pictures when I do. I do recommend you give it a try. Cheap (about $2.00/pc) for the hand held goodies and the sandwich was around 7 bucks. I hope to see more reviews so I can know what to order next time. read more

Authentic Brazilian comfort food served generously, in a casual (if cramped) cafeteria style setting. HOT BAR: like its competitor the Brazilian Place, the main entrees here (everything from feijoada to potato salad) are served by the pound. Dollop your helpings onto a plate and weigh in at the end for your cost. The food was warm and relatively fresh, on the Sunday afternoon we visited. BREAD: if you've been craving real Brazilian ponzinho (pão francês), you'll find it here. Though I actually prefer Brazilian Place's (theirs is a little crispier and far more flavorful), demand here appears way higher. We had to order it in advance to secure a few loaves, when they slide out of the oven at 3 PM. PASTRIES: there's also a variety of tasty cakes and pastries here, including fist-sized pão de queijo (which were good, though a little powdery) and various pastéis. GROCERY: along the wall are several Brazilian staples for purchase, ranging from farofa to requeijão. Most of the items are older though, expiring within a month or so. AMBIENCE: small and crowded, this cafeteria style joint is far better suited for takeout than dine in. This Brazilian bakery is located in a plaza next to Outback Steakhouse, Autozone and Lotte supermart in Aspen Hill. I almost missed it as didn't notice a sign along with those "bigger names". I stopped by to grab some "salgadinhos" but turns out that they make some of their goodies in enormous size such as their coxinhas (like a croquet) and pão de queijo (cheese bread). Sadly they had run out of pudim that day so I opted for a couple brigadeiros (chocolate fudge balls - a staple at b-day parties). I also took a pastel and rissole to go, which hit the spot later on. They also serve various other foods (sandwiches and feijoada) and is a good place to pick up some Brazilian stuff such as coffee, Guarana, chocolates, etc. I like the open seating and TV w/Brazilian programming. read more

Takeout only. It's great and cheap. You can make a feast for 2 people for $12. Love the risoles and empanadas, the caramel cake, the churros. Can't go wrong with fried dough! Two and a half stars. Rustic, filling fare. Service is equally friendly to newbies and local regulars, and the grocery section includes some essentials like snacks, beverages, and sausage. Appropriately foreign TV channel, cafeteria table layout. Skip the fried sausage, which is basically a crispy corn dog. The stewed meat from the hot by-the-pound bar is pretty good, and the chocolate-dipped fresh fruits were worth every bite. Mildly flavored beans, fries bland and limp during our visit. The everything burger is their closest to redemption-- enough ingredients on minimal bread bun that you will be ungodly full on this alone: hard-fried egg, grilled ham, thin beef or chicken patty, melted cheese, fresh lettuce, corn, stale potato sticks. Sweet pastries looked less polished than the array of intriguing savories, but were more generously portioned. The conservatively descriptive menu requires cuisine familiarity, a willingness to ask questions, or the patience to Google the hell out of things. Will probably be back one more time to try meaty baked goods along with another burger. read more

My wife is Brazilian and we are always looking for Brazilian foods/markets around the DC area. The name is actual Ecowas International Foods (its easily discernible from the surrounding businesses due to the large Brazilian flag hanging in the window). During the week the cafe serves some Brazilian sweets and breads plus strong Brazilian coffee (Pilao). They also serve various types of salgadinhos (empanada type snacks) such as coxinhas, pastel, esfirra, pao de queijo. They also have a menu of Brazilian style lonches or sandwiches. You can get a burger or chicken sandwich covered in various toppings such as cheese, potato sticks, corn, lettuce, tomato, ham egg. There are various combos and the portions are very generous. Living in Wheaton, I've always seen this place in the Lotte Center but never ventured in until this past weekend. Let me tell you... best decision ever. There's a lunch buffet that is fully equipped with pasta, rice, chicken, steak, fries, beans, kale, potato salad etc.. All great quality and for 7.95 all you can eat, is a steal Whilst all of it was very good, (yes I had a taste of it all) the gems were actually at the counter in the hotbox. Such delectable pastries and empanada type foods (Coxhina I think it was called) are filled with assorted meats and cheeses are absolutely incredible. If you don't speak Portuguese, you might be a little intimidated, but the woman behind the counter that served us spoke Spanish and English as well so you'll be fine. It's lunch time.. So far I have only had the chicken and cheese coxinha, the ham and cheese pastel, passionfruit mousse dessert, and the coconut "flan". A fresh and warm coxinha is amazing from the first bite with a delicately crisp outside and super flavorful filling inside. The pastel dough was delicious, but the ham had migrated entirely to one side. And I love anything passionfruit or coconut, so the desserts are pretty much my ideal desserts with a wonderfully creamy, custard texture. this is a little cafe/bakery/market that caters to the brazilian community in the aspen hill and wheaton sections of mo. co., that i usually hit up when my wife and i go shopping at lotte (it's right next door) and i just can't take the craziness when lotte is packed or i am really hung over from drinking too much the night before. every time i go in this place, i am the only gringo in the joint, which sometimes evokes an odd stare from the patronage and a little befuddlement from the management. they have a bunch of snack/comfort food such as coxinha, (which is a little tear drop of breaded minced chicken meat), pao de quijo, (cheese bread), various empadas (brazilian meat or cheese patties). they also make a number of brazilian sandwiches, mostly involving mass quanties of meat and cheese, in some cases peas, corn, and potato sticks. there is one sandwich i like to get when i am especially hung over (i forget the name, but the order number is 8..... i think) because it shoves everything into the sandwich, except for a thong. it is a ham, chicken, cheese, peas, corn, and potato sticks sammy. i don't know if meat, cheese, veggies and potato sticks are meant to go together, but when you are hungover - they do. i must put up a warning in regards to the sandwiches - high salt content. i don't know what they do to their meat at this shop, but it is very salty in taste. another little bonus about this place is the television viewing. sometimes the television they have tucked into the corner, airs either a soccer match (big surprise), a soap opera, or some serious, thong wearing, ass shaking dance variety show. brazilians really do like their ass shaking, and i must confess - it can be down right hypnotic. my wife wonders why i take so long to eat a sandwich sometimes. read more

I think this gets low stars for some because its real Brazilian food not Americanized food. We go and I'm expecting the type of "by pound" brazilian I typically eate at with a fire pit with meats and then salad bar/lasanga stuff like that, YO! Nah, its just a tired storefront with a half assed lame-o buffet on wheels. Food was something you'd get from you old abuelita leftovers three days after xmas eve. Wasn't the best evah. Maybe the 7.95 deal would be ok for a quick lunch if I'm tired but not por kilo por dinner NO WAY! Don't waste your time. The ambiance was a cross between a downtrodden feria in brasilia and the times squares bus station in NYC. Neither place I hope to be again in my life. I zumba my way to Brazilian and can tell you that I know that I can't eat their food all the time. It's so rich in fat and dough. I have to shake my body to take out the pounds. I had the empanada de pollo but I did not like the Brazilian style. Maybe, I should have the regular ham and cheese empanada @ 1.75 each. I also tried pan de queso @ $1.45 but I did not finish it. I also tried the bread with yucca and ground beef but it was too much for me. I liked the fried crispy flat bread with cheese (I don't know the name of it in Portuguese.) It is an okay service. Food is okay, desert okay. Too pricey. It would be good if they had label on the food so u can know what u r eating. They sometimes don't know what's in the food. One day I went there to eat. And there was this nice beans with meat and other things. And I asked the person who works there, does it have pork and he said no. He asked the people in the kitchen and they also said no but when I ate. I tasted pork and I am allergic to it. Almost went to the hospital. read more
