I drove by this place while heading to an event I was attending nearby and the huge sign "Sweet Bakery" with pictures of delicious treats all over the place. I just had to stop on my way back. It's located ina small commercial complex so they had plenty of parking outside. The place was very neat and the lady was very nice and greeted me as I came in through the door. It had a really nice "panaderia" smell but they also had a lot of other desserts that were pretty fancy which cought my eye. They also had some very nice looking cakes and tres leches that looked ooey gooey yummy. I headed over to the bakery side where you can just grab what you want. I got a tray and tongs and picked a few delicious looking sweet bread and cookies. I also grabbed a couple cannolis that were inside their "fancy desserts" right next to the camarons, cupcakes and fruit tarts. They had two different cannolis- vanilla and chocolate. I wanted to try both but I already had a full tray of other treats so I just picked the chocolate one. My total came out to a little over $10. What a steal!!! Those cannolis were definitely one of the best I've had. I know people from Italy would tell me it's not authentic or they didn't do it right but for $1.35 a piece- I'll take two please! I intended to get the 8-inch tres leches cake, which is $30. Then I realized that I could get 7 pieces of a variety of cakes/desserts, each for $4, and felt like that was a better deal. So I got tres leches, tiramisu, flan, and milhojas. My favorites were the tres leches and milhojas followed by tiramisu then flan. When you first walk in the store, the smell of the fresh-baked pastries and brewed coffee entice you to walk further in & check out the selection. There weren't many things that caught my eye like other bakeries in the area, and the selection was subjectively unexciting. I decided to settle on a mini chocolate cake with whipped icing in between as layers, topped off with a candied strawberry. The outside of the cake was hard and stale & the strawberry looked like it had seen better days. I picked at the inside layers of the cake which weren't bad, but I definitely was turned off by the stale/crunchy outer layer of a moist cake. At least the service was friendly. read more

The best panadería in the area. The conchas are magnificent and soft. The quesadilla bread is also very moist and sweet, which is different compared to other places. Stopped in for the first time on a weekday afternoon . It was not busy and the girl working there answered my questions about the different kinds of breads and cookies. I got 2 'rice' cookies, 3 rolls and a 'croissant '. I also got 2 cupcakes. Before I continue I caveat this with the comment that I am not very familiar with central American or other hispanic style bakery. I wanted to try it. The croissant is not really a croissant, it's just bread in the shape of a crescent. Having said that it is mildly sweet and kinda tasty. The rice cookie is a dry style cookie, almost more biscuit like. Not particularly sweet or memorable but not bad either. On the other hand for 3 rolls, 2 cookies and a 'croissant', I paid all of $3 bucks out the door. I don't think you could get much cheaper than that. And like other people posted, the items are on the large size, so you definitely don't feel like you didn't get your money's worth. I didn't eat the cupcakes yet. Generally not bad. At this point for me it is average. I might go back and try some other stuff. Update: The bread was really hard after 1 day, so you have to eat it same day I guess. read more

We stopped by this place to check it out - little did we know that not only are the bakery items in here giganternormeous (I know that is not a word, but you get my meaning), and some of the prices range from 50 cents to $1 - you heard me right...50 cents. When I saw some of these items, I am thinking like...what...really...it is that BIG. Yes, so some of the items in here are HUGE with some looking 4 times the normal size. I had a sugar donut (it was okay and a normal size); he had a napoleon (bigger) and then went back to get some cookies - you would with those prices. I am curious to see how those cookies taste - you think he will know if one was missing (maybe not, since they are so big). This place is very cheap and has a lot to offer! I think that it's more of a "dessert" bakery rather than "breakfast" but they have a little bit of almost everything. The workers were nice as well. For the stuff on the wall, you pick up a tray/liner and use the tongs sitting around to choose what you'd like. I got a variety of things and they were all meh or seemed dry, but for the price you shouldn't expect greatness. I had a hard time finding hours before I went, but the sign I read said 5:30a open almost every day. Also, bring cash for orders under $10. The other pictures on here are accurate. read more

I bought a Peppa Pig cake it was extremely extremely dry, would not recommend at all and THEY DONT MAKE THEIR CAKES ACCORDING TO THEM THEY GET THE CAKE MADE ELSE WHERE . I wasnt made aware of this until i tried the cake and tasted how bad it was and called and complained when they told me that. I always come to this Hispanic bakery after seeing a show or ballet at the Fitzgerald theater (the only reason I come over here in Rockville), but I would come again and again for this bakery! They always have a movie playing on the TV for the kiddos (in Spanish) and to be honest, I'm not sure why you'd sit here like its a Panera or Starbucks or something, but the environment is nice I guess. The employees are all super knowledgeable and friendly. I've always seen it pretty clean and usually no one is there when I've gone, so I get the employees' full attention. So, before I speak of the AMAZING food, first, be sure to bring cash if you aren't going to spend more than $10.00 as they have a credit card limit. Everything is very cheap, so you may have to spend the cash! Muffins - not corn bread, not blueberry...I personally did not like them (they tasted kinda like nothing to me), but my boyfriend ADORES these muffins. He has a weird palette of not liking fruit or chocolate, and likes when I make muffins for me not to add those extras into the mix for his side. So, I always grab him a few of these. Donuts - my sister had one and said it was just "okay", sort of like a Dunkin Donuts donut or something. Crossiants - They are way more "bread-ey" than a normal crossiants, but if you get the ones with the sugar on top, they are super tasty. I enjoyed mine with butter and with jam. *Tres Leches Cake - get this, get this, GET THIS! It is the best Tres Leches cake I have ever had in my entire life!!!! Every time I come here I get at least two. They can be stored in the fridge for a while and can last! A lot of the other food must be eaten in a day or two. Back when I first moved to Rockville, I ended up at some bakery and didn't really remember where it was. Fast forward to now, when I actually know where I am going, realizing that the previous bakery is now this establishment, Sweet Bakery. I was actually pleasantly surprised walking in here, and because it reminded me of Central American bakeries. The desserts are not overpoweringly sweet. I noticed that they served Salvadorian and Guatemalan tamales, but since the first time I came it was around lunchtime, they no longer had any since it's served only for breakfast. We returned for breakfast another day, and the tamales were amazing! They were packed with flavor, and the meat inside was tender. It's a great spot for breakfast and dessert. Solid Latin American bakery that's easy and dangerous walking distance for me; predominantly a variety of sweetbreads. Most end up being variations of a similar theme: plain but comforting, enjoyable dunked in coffee. Grab a tray and some tongs and get trying. There's no real harm in trying a lot / picking a miss bc it's all priced low. My favorites are items that have some kind of jelly swirled in. The turnovers are pretty tasty and their individual cake slices (chocolate and tres leches) are a favorite. I'd pass on the donuts, croissants, and cookies, personally, but there are plenty of other sweet goods to keep me coming back! read more

Visited this establishment on Feb 13 and purchased a slice of their Tres leches cake. The cake had assorted fruit on the top and had a middle layer of cream with strawberry as well. There was significant amount of sauce in the bottom of the to go container as well. read more

I came into the bakery to get my sons cake done for his birthday. Since I was not spanish speaking, she helped everybody that was spanish first(EVEN THE PEOPLE THAT CAME AFTER ME), she didn't even acknowledged me until she was done with everyone else, while the other cashier was talking to 2 guys while she was "sweeping". I asked the girl behind the cashier if they can do a Star Wars cake like the picture on their store front sign, and the lady gave me a look like I was crazy. She then showed me a book of everything they can do I pointed out to the cake that I wanted and it was a little bit of a language barrier so it took us 20 minutes to finally comes to clarification of the cake even though it was very simple, it was a one tier cake with black icing super simple and at first she said she cant do black and then she called her manager to doublecheck she said oh I'm sorry yes we can do it. When it can down to picking up the cake, I had to get my sister to pick up the cake because I was at the birthday party setting up. The manager gave my sister such a hard time even though we called before hand saying that my sister is going to pick up the cake, whoever picked up the phone said yes that's fine but when my sister came into the bakery they basically kept the cake hostage until we showed her a receipt. Mind you we already called and spoke to somebody. My sister confirmed the writing on the cake and the name on the order and how much it was, it was already paid for but they still wouldn't give us a cake. Time and energy and money wasted. I pass by this bakery almost every day and I was confused when the name suddenly changed from "Troy Bakery" to "Sweet Bakery." I'm not sure if the owner is the same, but one thing is for sure: they don't have the same menu items as Troy Bakery. I came into Troy Bakery once and vowed to try their baklava the next time I come in, but the next time I did, they no longer had it in their display. I asked the woman at the register if they sold baklava and she said no. I was quite disappointed. I did try their cannoli though and it was a bargain! Now, I'm not an expert on cannolis, but I did think it was too sweet. The shell was perfect in terms of crunchiness and the filling's creaminess was just right, but it had no hints of other flavors, like cinnamon, which is the most basic of flavors for cannolis. It just tasted like sugar, so if that's your preference, you'll enjoy it. Checked out the rest of their baked goods and everything looked delicious...but I do worry if they will hold in terms of flavor and texture complexity. I have driven by this bakery several times on my way to the Rockville soccerplex. Every time I commented to my family how much I wanted to stop there. I told stories of the fantastic smells I remembered walking into bakeries in New Jersey as a child. This bakery smelled good, but didn't remind me of New Jersey. I was unfamiliar with many of the pastries. A woman behind the counter - who was extremely polite and very focus on good customer service - could only tell us about one of the seven pastries we decided to try. They weren't bad, but they weren't flavorful. Moreover, almost all the pastries we tried tasted exactly the same. The customer service was above average. The product was below average. After reading several other reviews, I come back to my "New Jersey" bakery comment. Bakeries are about familiar comforts. I believe this bakery serves South American treats. I was unfamiliar with them, did not speak Spanish, and there was no one working behind the counter that could help me understand what I was purchasing. The size of the pastries are huge and the cost is fantastic (yes, $0.50-$1.00 as another reviewer commented). That said, it is absolutely worth your time to stop in and try several baked goods to see if you suits your tastes. For me however, I did not enjoy this bakery and am not likely to return. read more

I haven't tried any of the treats. I only come here on the weekends for a typical dasayuno de Domingo. I always get the Guatemalan tamales, these are the closest that I've come across to the Peruvian tamales that I so dearly miss. The humita (what I call it) is the sweet elote one, which is also pretty good. All in all a good place, but I do wish that there would be a South American bakery. we need more bread variety, this place a lot of different pan dulce but only one kind of French bread. read more

I really wanted to like this place..I pass it every day going to work and today I thought stop in and give it a try. I purchased two doughnuts and a colossal cake pop, you wouldn't think the doughnuts would taste and feel stale with the amount oil that was saturating the paper bag that contained them, and I am not too sure how chocolate icing tastes nothing like chocolate at all, instead it was similar to maybe brown colored flour, no sugar added. Cake pop was not much better I am afraid. I asked the nice young lady behind the counter what kind of filling did the cake pop contain, what I got was NOT what she explained.
