Avoid Copacabana Bakery in Gaithersburg, MD at all costs. We paid $61 for a cake that was completely unacceptable. It was for a special celebration for my parents, and it was honestly embarrassing to serve. The cake was visibly cracked before we even touched it. The moment we tried to cut it, it completely collapsed and fell apart. It was dry, overcooked, and made up mostly of whipped cream and pastry layers with barely any actual cake. It looked bad and tasted worse. We barely ate any of it. When we contacted the bakery, the manager was rude, dismissive, and condescending. Instead of taking responsibility, she questioned whether we knew how to cut a cake and whether we even used a knife. That response alone shows the level of professionalism and customer service you can expect here. The only thing offered was a discount on a future order -- which is unacceptable considering the product was defective. For $61, this was a complete rip-off. Poor quality, zero accountability, and shockingly unprofessional service. We requested a refund and offered to return the cake. Nothing meaningful was done. Because this issue was not handled appropriately, we will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Save your money. This is my go-to place for fresh bread. I always get pan francés, conchas mexicanas, gusanitos de dulce and sometimes galletas de mantequilla. You can skip the churros, they are always cold and not enough filling, at least for me. The ladies that work here are always nice and attentive. There's usually a line when I visit but they move pretty fast. The pan francés is always fresh. The bakery is spacious. My only drawback is sometimes you will encounter people outside asking for money/food or trying to sell you something at the parking lot. read more

I ordered 2 tres leches cake for a birthday party. When I took the cakes out of the box, the icing had massive cracks on it, on both cakes. The cakes were also extremely dry and bland. I called them immediately and the lady who picked up asked me for pictures of the receipts and the cakes. I sent her everything she asked for and she said I would receive a call from her manager.. tomorrow will be one week and I still haven't heard anything. I been to this bakery a few times specifically for their Tres Leche cake/cup. The staff is very friendly and are anxious to help you with your order (which is a good thing). When you walk in the bakery there is plenty of tables and chairs just in case you want to sit in. They have drinks you can order from them as well, not just bakery goods. TIP: If you don't have cash? They have a $5 min on cards. :-) They have a huge selections of pastries, bread, cake, etc. I ordered their pound cake bundt,donuts, tres leche cake, and bread with the light coat of sugar on top. Their pound cake and bread is dry but soft. It taste like they made it from scratch and the flavor was good, its just dry. If you like dry cake/bread? come here. I think it was perfect with coffee! And the pricing is affordable. I spent $7.50 for like 4 items. The pound cake is like $1.25 and the most pricey item is $2.99 for the tres leche cake. The tres leche cake was so good! It was not super soggy with milk like some bakeries will do. I added strawberries to it when I got home which made it amazing! I will definitely, come here again! They also mispelled the name, after I wrote it on a piece of paper. Really?, how hard can it be? Called back and spoke to manager "King" who tried to give me the run around but offered $2 as credit for selling me the wrong cake and messing up the name. I told him that he needed to do better if he wanted me to return as a customer. He asked for pictures and receipts but didn't deliver on his promise (told me he needed to talk to the owner but never did). I paid $29.99 for an 8 inch creme cake and he offered $2 for me to drive back and spend $3 on gas to buy another overpriced cake. You are better off buying from a supermarker instead. I bought a 10" tres leches for a work party and it was amazing. Everyone loved it and it was so popular!!! I was nervous that the tres leches I ordered would actually be a crème cake per an old review on here, but it was totally per the order and delicious. Not too sweet, not soaking, was maybe missing some fruit in the middle but that's not how everyone makes it! I had friends ask me about ingredients re: food allergies -- make sure you ask in advance when their baker is there if you're worried. I was able to order in Spanish so unlike some older reviews on here, everything was correct in my experience. I went there for the first time a few days back and I think I've finally found a delicious, budget - friendly bakery in the area! I only got the chocolate croissant and a slice of the tres leches cake and they were both amazing! I'm not quite sure what authentic tres leches and chocolate croissant taste like but for some reason, both tasted very homemade to me. I'm writing the review several days later because I'm craving it again! If you're not sure if you'll spend over $5, make sure to have cash on you because the use of a card has a minimum of $5. Smell was amazing outside. It Brought me in. Lots of different looking pastries but mostly us the same flavor profiles. Had my typical Latin American bakery experience. Cortadas were dense and dry. Pastelito was bland. Cupcakes were yucky. Palmieres we're fine. They no longer make saltenas. I think that would have made a great impression on me since those can be amazing. Meh. read more

The staff here was very kind. We had no clue about the differences between the offerings so he patiently explained. Frankly I still couldn't quite figure out which I'd like best so we bought one of almost everything. My friend enjoyed his coffee, I liked the pastries. They are a perfect complement to tea or coffee. My favorite was the cornbread type muffin but I loved everything. This place is fun. Its clean and they have a huge selection of different, delicious breads and desserts. Authentic espresso and the pan crema is a fantastic combination. I love coming here after dinner too. The service is great, and its super spacious. You'll love it too. If you're in Gaithersburg then you definitely have to come by here at some point.
