The breakfast was delicious... the eggs were great, the sausage very paprika-y, and the steak was charred and delicious. The tamales may have been the best I've ever had, with a big slice of potato and some really fragrant masa. The taquitos were fried perfectly, and the tortilla tasted great with the chicken. Empenadas were really nice with the sweet brown onion against the chicken. The Baleadas were life changing... sweet avocado and beans, scrambled egg and salty crumbled cheese, and a little sour crema in a thick delicious dough. A brand new flavor for me. And two for that cheap is... a fantastic deal.

Petite sized little bakery in Wheaton Triangle…read more This is one of the small little shops on the perimeter of the brand new large office building that goes up where the large parking lot used to be. There's a handful of tables when you walk in, more seating then you'd probably think for a bakery of this size. The walls are lined with refrigerators and pastry cases. Some of the selection is self-service and then some sit in glass boxes that are more attuned to Jewelry cases. I went up to the front and saw a number of hand scrawled signed taped on the front refrigerators. The prices are insanely low. Tamales for $1.50 a piece are definitely worth your attention. The chicken sandwich that I tried for $3.00 was oddly out of this world. When it was set down on the table in front of me... I was like... "OK... this looks pretty basic." But then I tried it... and I was like... what the HELLO has been done to this chicken. As I commented to a friend: " I have no idea what they did to that chicken, but I'm pretty sure it involves wizards or MSG." It was freakin' good! I also ended up getting the Budin (I think this was $1.75) which is like this super soft raisin pudding cake thing with caramelized sugar on top. Man... that was good. The ONE thing I got and didn't love was the "pan con frijoles, queso, crema." There is a possibility that this is true cause I didn't eat it while it was hot. There is also a possibility that this is true cause the cashier/cook forgot the cheese and then gave it to me on a little plate later, and it didn't melt into anything. But for me it just was too gloopy... if you know what I mean. The bread it was served on was good... but the texture and saltiness was a little much. Overall, I will totally be back. Value for quality was fantastic. Also... just FYI. It would be VERY helpful to know a bit of Spanish when you do go. There was definitely a bit of a communication barrier with English.

La Poteria was the perfect midpoint to grab our morning caffeine fix and a bite to eat before we hit the Harpers Ferry hiking trails. The cafe was beautifully decorated with marble tables, a ton of plants, and plenty of couches and cozy armchairs. There was a ton of natural light from the giant windows, but they also had a number of aesthetic hanging lights, some of which were exposed bulbs and others of which were in little wicker baskets. As far as the food and drink goes, I loved their latte. The coffee was rich and not overly acidic, and it was strong enough that you could still appreciate the chocolatey, nutty undertones under the generous helping of steamed milk and foam. I also loved the little heart sprinkle they added in the center of the mug -- such a cute final touch! My friend and I also split two of their savory items, the cheese arepa and spinach and feta empanada. The empanada was a little different than what I was used to, as it was super flaky and buttery, with an almost croissant or puff pastry-like dough. It was delicious and the savory feta went wonderfully with the spinach and the slightly peppery mayo-based sauce they served it with. The arepa was also lovely, with a generous helping of gooey melted cheese on top of the slightly chewy, slightly sweet corn-based flatbread.
