We found this place the day after our wedding because, long story short, we had prime rib at our wedding but only got to eat a bite of it and our caterer didn't pack it up for us so here I was, still with a prime rib craving that needed to be satisfied. As most of you probably know, it's hard to get a reservation at the famous prime rib places in the city so I had to yelp other options. We showed up to brazen head and there were seats at the bar so we took it. I wasn't sure what to expect but the prime rib actually was amazing!! Very tender and flavorful! It was so good we recently just went back again to satisfy my once a month prime rib craving. This time we also tried the oysters but I wouldn't say they're the freshest. Not sure if I would order that again here but definitely will be back when my spontaneous PR cravings kick in! also, love the ambience here! Cozy, dim-lit, vintage feel. Makes it feel like we drove to a tiny town for a getaway at a bar where everyone in town hangs out. Writing this review is making me drool and want to go back again already! read more

My boyfriend and I try to pick a new place to go to for our date night around once a week. We had heard great things about Brazen Head from multiple people so we decided to check it out. I am so glad we did! We got a bottle of wine to start plus french onion soup. Oh my goodness... that soup was divine. Talk about oozy cheesy goodness. In my opinion this a must-get here! We both got steaks with bearnaise - mine medium rare and his medium. I'm so so glad I got my medium rare because the flavor was perfect, I also prefer mine to be a little more on the red side. Also - the atmosphere is perfect for a date. Dark and intimate. I would come back here again and again! read more

I remember this little dark mysterious place, the sign was Nowhere in sight from what I remember. so I thought it was a place with no sign. But, that didn't matter that was the least of my worries the food was so elegant for being kind of a dark little pubish type of place I have to say I loved it! I'd go many times again... read more

Immediately upon walking into this little hideaway neighborhood fav, you are transformed back into an Old SF Vibe. The bar seating is warm and intimate. We were accommodated quickly and seated. We celebrated my sons birthday with two apps...meatballs were so good. All family members enjoyed their variety of entrees...pork chop, petrale sole, chicken Marsala, prime rib, petite fillet. Bravo to the chef. We finished our meal with a chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream-to die for goodness. We will be back. read more

Not an enjoyable experience and would be the last time we would visit this place. We would come here often as we enjoy the food and would take the chance of being turned away back when they didn't take reservations and would only take cash. Sadly, all these is not worth it after the horrible experience this evening. There was a party of eight on one side of us with children and on the other side was a couple with their 2 yr old. I have nothing against children but the establishment did nothing to prevent the children from running and screaming and occupying another table next to us so they can scream and play. What was supposed to be a pleasant dinner turned out to be awful. Since it was evident that the adults didn't care nor respect other diners, we expected the staff would make sure their clients who are there are respected. We were disgusted by the parents who showed no class and at the staff who did nothing . We have been living in Sf for 25 years and always thought of this restaurant as a decent but not anymore. It seems that their standards have gone down. It felt like we were at a low class joint with low class people around us who know nothing about being respectful. Never again and will not recommend to anyone read more

I'm recommending this place only to locals :) Just kidding...Half Kidding ***Memorable*** *Real San Francisco Local Spot *Good food *Good Wine *Friendly, helpful and attentive waitstaff (made it feel like home) *Perfect homey and Old SF ambiance *Recommendation: Chicken Marsala (best I've had so far), Escargot I really enjoy a nice little place that's unpretentious and down to earth. My friend took me here for my birthday dinner and I was really impressed. They serve warm bread which I really appreciate :) read more

Wonderful place! Hubby, close friends and I went last night. Great service, had the Giants game on, fab food..what more can you want?? 2 of us had the prawn scampi - yummy! Hubby had the veal piccata - can't remember what the 4th had but he loved it! Also had Cesear (sp?) salads and the spinach salad - both were great. I know we did not need it but we then split 2 desserts - boh excellent! One was the fallen angel chocolate cake. Cocktails were great and wait staff was adorable. An added bonus was that the Giants won! We will definitely be back!! read more

i'd come back here for one thing...and one thing only...the FRENCH ONION SOUP! oh man...it's hard to find a good french onion soup out there...some just aren't cheesy enough. some aren't bready enough...some are too oniony...some aren't oniony enough...this one was PERFECT! we had a deal on bloomspot...$25 for $50. the day that we came here...i wasn't super craving the fine dining stuff (as i was recovering from the flu)...and instead, we opted for a burger with bacon and prime rib sliders. i've never had a burger with garlic mashed potatoes before. it was a nice surprise and tasted yummy when i smeared a spoonful of the potatoes on my burger. it was cooked well...my only complaint? the bun was super hard. overtoasted, maybe? the prime rib on the sliders was juicy and flavorful...makes me wonder how the prime rib dish itself is. the service was pretty good...our water glasses were always filled and the server brought a refill of my sister's iced tea with the quickness. the restaurant is super dark...there aren't many tables...old school kinda feel...lots of drunk business men at the bar talking about ruling the world...not my kinda ambiance...but i'm willing to come back and try the fancier meat dishes. oh, and the french onion soup, of course! read more

Thanks to my particular friend, Ethan F. I am now acquainted with The Brazen Head, it's gin martini, red wine list, escargot, caesar salad and pepper steak. The staff are really lovely and, although a bit kitch, the decor completes the entire experience to which I will refer friends and be sure to return real soon. My only question is why did it take so long to find this lovely little gem? Well done! read more

Last ate at this Cow Hollow District hideaway 2 years ago, and the filet mignon there was okay and reasonably priced. The sides of potatoes and string beans were unremarkable but fresh. Lately I've been craving some decent comfort food and remembered that the Brazen Head had meatloaf on their menu back then. Too bad that I let my memory forget just how underwhelming the food was. The meatloaf delivered by Doordash tonight was a grey mass of practically tasteless mush. After one bite, the rest was deposited in my building's composting bin. What a loss of $35 that was! read more

The service was amazing, but our whole table was not very impressed by the dinner as a whole. The drinks were not great (expensive and small). I ordered the chicken Marsala and couldn't even finish it (also very different from how it usually tastes which may have been the issue for me personally) - however, none of my friends enjoyed their meals either. Overall a very expensive night, and our $$ could have been well spent somewhere else. read more

The service and food here are amazing! We arrived a little over an hour before closing and we were helped pretty quickly. Our waitress was super friendly and welcoming and recommended some of her favorites which were amazing! I got the filet mignon and it was wonderful! Super tasty and juicy. The escargot were very good as well. read more

I've easily walked by this place a dozen of times without realizing what it was. Due to all the favorable Yelp reviews, I JUMPED on the opportunity to snag the Bloomspot deal ($25 for $50 for food and drink) and we put it to use on Saturday night. Arriving there was a strange experience. A dog was barking wildly, and a man blocked the door to scowl at the barking dog. The whole encounter was a little awkward, and my boyfriend finally asked if it was ok for us to come in. Once in the restaurant, it turned out he was the host, and we had to ask for a table for dinner. It certainly wasn't hospitality at its finest. On the other hand, our server was a gem. Friendly, attentive, and rather charming- she took good care of us! We ordered: Marinara & Meatballs (The meatballs and sauce were kinda sweet- I found myself wishing for more sauce, and wondering why they cost $9 bucks. The garlic bread they came with was tough and dry.) French Onion Soup (This was delicious! Cheesy, bready, onion-y goodness. I'm not a huge fan of French Onion Soup, but I truly enjoyed this one!) The Brazen Head Burger (The boyfriend is a self-proclaimed Burger connoisseur. While he's easy to please, and liked his burger well enough, at the end of the day, "this burger was just a burger.") Prawn Scampi (The Scampi itself was succulent, but something on my place gave off a burnt aroma. While I left satisfied, nothing about this meal screamed amazing.) Our total bill for 2 drinks, 2 apps, and 2 entrees was $70. While we enjoyed a decent meal, nothing captured our attention enough to come back...except that French Onion Soup! read more

Every now and then I drop in for a drink and appetizer. The bartender is fantastic and hands down makes the best dirty Martini West of the Mississippi. I have prowled all of this country high and low looking for the best Martini. Their bartender should be making them for 007 in the movies. If not 007 at the bare minimum could be making them with Tom Cruise in the movie Cocktail (7.3/10) as a supporting actor. Will be coming back. read more

I have always had a wonderful experience when I have visited here in person. It's a classic old school restaurant with great wine list prices and amazing food to match. Unfortunately I had to come through and move my apartment during COVID plus it Mothers Day! My mom happened to be my partner in moving! I wish I could have shown her the real Brazen Head, but she was really happy (like mentioned it multiple times, to multiple people) Even through delivery you manage to make a great comfortable feeling!! read more

I cleaned my plate of Penne a la Norma and left nothing behind, as with the French Onion Gratinee. The service was very attentive, warm, and not overbearing. My glass of water would be filled quickly when it was running low and the bread basket was checked multiple times to see if more bread was needed. More bread was needed a couple of times because I kept eating it all. This place is dimly lit with lamps on the tables that give off a darker, calm red light. The ambiance was relaxed. The Bread Pudding à la mode was enough reason to give Brazen Head five stars. That was the best bread pudding I have ever had. I took my time eating it because I didn't want it to end. It smelled so good too! I wish I were still eating it now. Now that it's gone I realize how much I enjoyed it. I miss that bread pudding. I have been thinking about it all night. read more

Back in for dinner last night after work. Once again extraordinary food and service. The knife just melted through my perfectly cooked petit filet. And, the Camembert with roasted garlic jump started my meal. Eric recommended a great wine (I took a bottle home). Brian greeted me at the door like an old friend and I felt like I had known Mike forever. Thank you for another memorable evening. read more

Great atmosphere, excellent service and above all, consistently delicious food. A local restaurant that welcomes everyone to become a regular. If you want one of San Francisco's best dining experience ,the Brazen Head is the place to go. Fantastic staff. read more

There are ads in too much newspapers for this restaurant. Maybe, because it's far from the center of SF, so it's the mean reason. I ordered a oinions soup. A classic for me. A little bit salty and cooked with no wine, what a pity ! The prime rib : not excellent and very thin cut for the price. Some green beans but not did, I had to cut their extremity. I didn't know if San Franciscans eat like this but in a restaurant I never saw this before. Why not taking freeze so ?! Mashed potatoes not very good also. Not cooked correctly. Perhaps just a deshydrated potatoes bag. Amazing, for eating in a restaurant and I have paid around 70 dollars with a glass of red wine. Wines (i have tried 2) are too warm. read more

Brazen Head - Best place forever. Great service - Steakhouses Near Me - San Francisco, California

It was after 11:00 last Saturday night. I was staying at the Hotel Del Sol, and had been to a birthday party in Pacific Heights. As I was walking back to the hotel I realized that I had very little to eat at the party...I had been too busy gabbing. A quick check of my Yelp! app steered me to Brazen Head as a good late night place to eat. Within five minutes I was sitting at the bar with my drink order in and a menu in hand. I wasn't looking for a full meal. I ordered the salmon sliders. They were great. I ordered them again. I was happy. The bartender was busy but I didn't have to wait for him to greet me when I came in, to take my food order or to give me my bill. And his pours were nice. One cool thing is that I had been here before, but didn't realize it until I stepped in. I lived in the Marina in 1983 and 1984. Brazen Head was new at the time and was an occasional destination. I am so glad to be re-acquainted! I'll be back for a full meal next time I'm in the area. read more

Spent a day involuntarily dehydrating myself due to food poisoning from a New York strip cooked medium. Based on what I ate, it couldn't have been anything else. The basic requirement of any restaurant is to not poison your customers and they failed. Should've checked their health score first; it's terrible. read more

I've been coming to brazen head for the past 2 years and recently came on a Monday night after seeing Hamilton. I love Brazen Head for it's nostalgia. It's so rare to find places like this in SF anymore and it makes me happy. Brazen Head is low lit restaurant serving up food until close to 2am with a killer old school bar. You'll usually find a guy named Jimmy behind the bar and boy does he make a mean martini. An easy five stars for the bar. The food is fine and definitely not my highlight but, after a long night it's a great option for the neighborhood. Considering there are very few places open late in the marina, Brazen Head is a gem. I ordered the veal piccata special with mashed potatoes and it really hit the spot. Moral of the story. Go see Jimmy for a drink and if you're really hungry, get some food. read more

Amazing service and delicious food - parking can be a challenge but worth the time to drive around or take an Uber. They won't seat you unless the whole party is present and only have 1 big table for a group so be prepared if you have more than 4. I'm not a steak fan but brought my steak loving friends here and they loved it and my salmon was delicious as well. Bar can get a little crowded but fun atmosphere / great drinks / wine list to enjoy and 2 TVs to watch while waiting for table. read more

Okay okay listen up!! This place is avery low key and excellent place for bringing a hot date or your side chick because you will be away from the public The service is old fashion style, very attentive, helpful and polite. Theyre friendly and will remember a returning customer. Everyone gets treated the best way here,i send many recommendations to friends to come here. Menu is really awesome! Might have a plate that doesnt fit your tasting once in a while but go with the prime rib. Pretty much same piece of meat youll get at any high end place without the ambience of over decorated interiors. Just come right on in. Talk about business, private love life, a well coordinate plan, it is in dim setting. read more

Hubby and I came in on a Thursday night after a show for a late dinner. Located on a quiet residential corner in Cow Hollow, from the outside, it looks so mellow - almost sleepy with orangey lights glowing from inside. When we walked in, we were met with a warm and wonderful greeting by the hostess. The seating was tight. We were squeezed between two tables with loud talkers on both sides. The waiter was personable and accommodating. We ordered the lamb shank (good but not great) and mushroom ravioli (excellent). As we got further into our dinner, more loud people filled the room and good luck trying to have a conversation. Hubby reminded me that it is, after all, a bar at 1am. We ordered coffee and ice cream for dessert, and it was then that our server disappeared. No more water or coffee refills, no check. We sat there for 30 minutes trapped in loud talker hell before we were able to our pay our bill (that's when I dropped a star from my rating). We'll try to give it another try next time during dinner time. To recap: Cool old building. Good food, though pricey. Based on reviews and the restaurant's self-description, was expecting a more romantic ambiance. "Cozy" = tables on top of each other. Great latenight bar for loud millenials, if you like that. read more

Fun, warm, delicious, intimate spot. A bit of old San Francisco, Romantic atmosphere, small, great staff.

Are you fooled by the old school feel and seemingly appetizing menu? Don't be. The food is mediocre at best and the management of this place is assuredly rotten to the core. Best advice is to get your pub steak fix elsewhere. read more

What happened to this place? It has always been my favorite neighborhood place to go to on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday. The food is good but the people are what make it. Typically, we sit at the bar unless we have a group. We went in last week and our favorite bartender, Michael, was not there. Okay, it was Easter weekend. He deserves a vacation! We went back this week and he wasn't there again. When we inquired, someone told us he's no longer there. Whaaat? Michael is witty, entertaining, engaging, and one heck of a great bartender. The guy behind the bar last week and this week had NO personality and made a lousy drink. We've seen him a handful of times on the nights we're there. A woman sitting next to us said he's the manager. That's it for us. If Michael is gone, we're outta here, too. read more

We were so happy to get back to San Francisco and the Brazenhead. They seem to have coped so well with the Pandemic, and the service and staff remain "top notch".
