She made sure to check in often and offered helpful food suggestions. Speaking of the food, it's nothing fancy. It's simple but well prepared fare that will make any stomach a happy stomach. The atmosphere is part of the appeal. Resting on a street corner, there is no signage announcing where you are. The bar area is warm filled with locals who walk in at the end of the day who drink and share stories. A very casual atmosphere that doesn't pretend to be something that it isn't. Here's the deal: Sometimes in life, you get spoiled, and you forget to appreciate the little things that make your life better/easier/more pleasant. This unassuming, lets-be-honest hidden, unpretentious steak joint is old school, as in, they've served me steamed mixed vegetables and rice pilaf with my steak before. I've never been able to get a ribeye steak here, which is my preferred cut. This restaurant is NOT WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE in any sense of the word. They don't take credit cards, so you'd better bring cash. So why do I like it and give it so many stars? Well, there are very few restaurants generally open as late as the Brazen Head is under normal circumstances (pre-shelter-in-place, it was 1 am, if I recall correctly!) that provide "real" food, ie, not just greasy fried food that arrived at some dive frozen off a Sysco truck! The service has always been friendly enough, helpful enough, and the food itself is perfectly decent and reasonably priced for what it is. It isn't a big restaurant, so it's rarely super-loud, such a nice change from so many of the packed, deafeningly loud trendy places packed with hipsters, prepsters, and tech bros! A great word for this place would be "unpretentious", and I appreciate that quite a bit in the modern restaurant landscape! I don't go here often, but when I do, I'm always happy I did! read more

Only true SF natives know about Brazen Head. Although it's in the popular Cow Hollow neighborhood, it's a little off the beaten path (tucked away in a residential area). But once you find it, you're in for a true San Francisco treat. Immediately upon entering, you'll feel like you're in a different city from a different era. It's darkly lit and sultry with plenty of cozy booth seating, and a welcoming bar right at its nucleus. To be perfectly honest, I've only ever sat at the bar (and it's always a great way to chat with other locals and the friendly bartenders). They've got a bevy of classic cocktails to choose from. There's something about that this place that always make me crave a Manhatten or whiskey concoction. But they also have plenty of beer and wine options. One of the great things about Brazen Head is that they're one of the few places in this part of town that serves delicious food past midnight, so it's great for all you night owls. This is by no means your average Marina bar. This is a Marina bar for adults who aren't just looking to get wasted. A classic San Francisco type of joint, dimly lit and intimate so you can feel comfortable if you're in a suit or just dressed casually. Lots of dark wood and red lights. Minimal design outside and wooden shutters camouflage the spot. Cash only. Real old school ! I started with the escargot, which came out on a sizzling platter and had filled the air with an aroma of rich butter, garlic and seasoning. Served with toasted bread it was quite a treat. The veal piccata followed and was also very flavorful. My favorite was the NY strip steak. It was cooked right and I liked the cream sauce. A lot of places can cook a great steak, but its the little things they do that set them apart. This is a great spot if you are into old school/ no frills ambiance. Its elegant but not over the top or try hard. It feels like some one opened it ages ago and said it was done right the first time so nothing will need to be changed. The hanger steak came with greens and mashed potatoes which were ok but the medium rare hanger steak topped with blue cheese crumbles was very tasty and juicy. The lobster bisque didnt taste bad but it had no chunks of lobster in it and was a cup size serving of creamy broth in a bowl for 10 bucks. Between a steak dinner and appetizer I wasnt even full. Service was ok. I was alone so I ate at the bar as to not take up a table and they seemed disappointed I wasnt buying drinks while in uniform and on my brief lunch break before returning to work. Brazen Head is a cozy late-night spot for steaks. It's tucked away in a Marina neighborhood and many locals dine here. I came here for dinner on a Friday and it was pretty loud and lively. Luckily we didn't have to wait and were seated at a very tiny table for two. The interior could use some updating. The space was very cramped and dark with old wooden furniture. I ordered the seasonal salad for a fresh and light bite. The salad tasted great and was tossed in light vinaigrette with gorgonzola, apples, oranges, caramelized onions, pecans and cranberries. We also ordered the filet mignon. The steak wasn't tender and flavorful as we had hoped for. We asked for medium rare, but it was cooked medium well. The size was small in comparison to its price. We chose the baked sweet potato for our side, but the potato was over cooked and was too soft for my liking. They weren't so generous with the sides. We only got a third of a sweet potato, one piece of portabella mushroom and a few green beans. What was a little surprising was that they only take cash or debit cards...a steakhouse in the Marina? I think I'd be better off getting a piece of steak of Marina Meats or going to House of Prime Rib. read more

Great neighborhood spot that I can't believe we used to be walking distance to. A must while you're in San Francisco! Brazen Head has no sign out front and you just kind of have to know about it. We learned about this restaurant on the TV show, "Check, Please." We came here for the first time in July and had to come back on this trip 5 month later. Brazen Head is an old world style neighborhood steakhouse with great cocktails, delicious steaks and friendly staff. Its small, a little dark inside but has a cozy warm feel to it. It's a little bit out of the way, but we made the trip walking uphill from Union Square! It was worth every huff and puff! Go! You won't be disappointed. We will be back! read more

When you call to let them know, they don't care. Over priced for this level of food and service. Not recommended. I've been going to the Brazen Head for decades. I'm recovering from surgery so I'm stuck in a rehab center but I still order now & then through an app. The food is generally good. I do have a complaint about their "baked potatoes" since they aren't baked, they're microwaved and for what you pay, you should get a real baked potato. You can easily taste the difference. I like their filet mignon but be prepared to pay a lot for their steaks. The biggest improvement would be to start baking the potato. It used to be more moderately priced. I miss those days. Using an app brings the cost up to the point where I just don't order as often. read more

Let me start by saying that the food here is good. The ambience is cool. The location great. What isn't cool is the $1.68 "convenience" fee that was tacked onto my bill. Convenient for what? You didn't do anything convenient for me. I'm sorry but I'm not playing this game with SF restaurants where you tack on an extra $3 for health insurance or convenience or whatever. We are already taxed to death in California and it isn't my responsibility to pay your employee's health insurance. So unfortunately for the waitress who was fantastic, her tip was cut $1.68 short. That may sound harsh but the reality is, the owner of the restaurant chose to add $1.68 fee to the bill. Therefore he can cover the $1.68 less on the tip. It's the principle of the matter that Californians pay taxes out of our asses and we go to restaurants to help the local economy and in turn they try to stick us with extra fees to cover costs that they don't want to come out of their pockets. Unfortunately, because of this, we will not be coming back. Too bad too because the food here is good. read more

She came back and shook her head at us and asked my wife, "are you local?"
