One of the best restaurants in SF. Always great food and dining experience. Great service and atmosphere too

Not necessarily a destination place for me but rather an end up kinda place. Not because I don't love it... I do..very much.... but rather because friends and I just kinda seem to end up there... and for good reason. Pros -No signage so ya hafta know where it is. (but the fact that they have a website is amusing) -Excellent bar. -Great dimly lit, old school atmosphere. -Good food til 1am. -Friendly, easygoing staff. -Awesome people watching. Cons/FYI's -Sucky street parking, as usual. -Tiny, so be prepared to wait. -Cash or debit only. Thanks Brazen Head... for being there for me when it's late and I'm starving and in need of a good cocktail. We love you. read more

4.5 Solid Dinner Steak Spot. We had the filet mignon and pepper steak. The pepper steak was my favorite. Perfectly seasoned with the sauce. The mashed potatoes and green beans exquisite. Drinks good and strong. Attentive service. Nice outdoor seating. Could do with some heat lamps though I know they are in high demand. read more

Great food, great services. Cozy atmosphere. Location was easy to find. And strong adult beverage.

Came here for the first time today we were seated immediately. The food was absolutely tasty, from the appetizers to the entrees. I love the intimate setting and dimly lights. We will definitely be back to this welcoming restaurant. The hostess Melinda heard my fiancée say it was my 40th bday and came over to sing me a beautiful happy birthday song. It ended my night extremely well read more

I always like going to the Brazen Head. Reminds of an east coast bar, dark, good food, bartenders r right there if you need anything. Good food, fair price. I have been in SF since 1991 and the Brazen Head is always a place I offer as an option to my friends for dinner. The menu is simple, not pub guv but not fine dining either. I like the steak and opt for the burger from time to time. Always sitting at the bar, although I should opt for the dining room more often (great for dates and private conversation). Good desserts and I like the fact that the kitchen is open late. No downside here, even though the owner likes the other baseball team from New York not named the Yankees. That is ok. Stop by, good people, no nonsense, cannot go wrong. Be back soon. read more

Fantastic bar. Phenomenal ambiance and a true SF gem. Ronnie knows what he's doing. Spectacular Irish coffee.

Very much a neighborhood spot. We were sent here as a high recommendation but I can verify this is just that, a neighborhood spot. My group did not feel welcomed in this declining economy so they will get a frank assessment. The appetizers were acceptable but not exceptional , the prime rib was ok but only that. The service was C minus. The wine list was the best part of the experience. They do have stuffed blue cheese olives and cocktails were descent. The space is quaint and comfy for those that are deemed worthy of the experience. I dine all over the country and can tell you this joint is anything but special. Don't waste your time in this establishment if your looking for special. There are many alternate options in the area that offer better quality food and service. Again to be fair, not terrible but not as great read more

Such a cozy place, sit at the bar or dining room and you feel old San Francisco charm. The food was very good and they serve dinner late night. Parking wasn't an issue. It's literally a hidden gem! read more

What a spectacular restaurant and bar this place is. It's small and quaint but the atmosphere is very fun. There is no signage anywhere on the exterior of the business which in my opinion is great marketing. We arrived early as they do not take reservations. We waited less than hour for a table and the wait was well worth it. The food was phenomenal and the drinks were well made. If you ever find yourself in SF wondering where to eat, wonder no more!! Brazen Head is a must for anyone who comes to SF. read more

I have lived in SF for over 20 years and I cannot believe I have never been here. I have heard about if for years, but never really got my ass in their seats. It was 4th of July eve, and we were looking for places that might not be crowded since the city seemed empty. This popped up in my bookmarks, so we went down there around 7pm and got right in, we sat at a table, but I bet the bar is fun... I had seen the prime rib slider photos and they looked great, so we shared those (my favorite of the night and for sure something I will be back there for these again), the french onion soup and the chicken marsala (which was good, but a far smaller portion than the photos will have you believe). The lighting is freaky low - so good if your aren't feeling your prettiest. (Remember that Seinfeld episode where Jerry has a girlfriend who only looks good in certain light? - well she would look like a super model in here!!) Coming back for those sliders - they might be my new "happy food" - If i am feeling low. read more

I made a curb side pick up through Yelp: Filet Mignon with Vegetables. The estimated availability was 8:29 - 8:49, but already at 8:29 I received a notification that the order was ready. The steak turned out to be amazing: very juicy, with proper frying. I enjoyed it. read more

I am a native Cow Hollow woman and I have spent quite a bit of money in this establishment over my many years on this earth. The food used to be really good many many many years ago. I don't go out much to eat anymore because most of the high end restaurants are now gone due to retirements, death of owners, COVID etc. I prefer my own cooking to avoid the over processed salting of foods nowadays. But on 12/31, I was home and hungry and thought I would take a chance at ordering some food for delivery. Quality food should not change because it is a holiday! I ordered through GrubHub the Roasted Boneless Angus Prime Rib, "medium rare", side of green beans, and a whiskey sour. I then thought, because a lot of these delivery drivers are clueless on how to use an intercom (kind of part of their job in this city since we all have intercoms!) I would call the restaurant and I was friendly and politely asked the man who answered if he could remind the GrubHub driver, when he arrived to pick up the order, to please use the intercom. Well, the man on the phone was a straight up JERK! He sounded pompous and above it all! He said he has no control over the delivery drivers and hung up on me. Well, JERK, I am probably old enough to be your grandmother (if I was, you would never act like that!) and I was not asking him to control anyone, just a friendly reminder! Then the food arrives and it was COLD! I don't do microwaves as I am European and don't own a machine that breaks down the DNA of food! If I have to turn on my oven then I might as well cook dinner! The meat was mostly fat (cardiac event on a plate) and the whiskey sour was flooded with ice cubes thus watered down so it was basically water! I threw most of the food out as it was not even fit for our local raccoon population! So, Happy New Years to me! I wasted $66.10 on NOTHING! THANKS!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

Brazen Head - This is not fit for human or animal consumption. - Steakhouses Near Me - San Francisco, California

Brazen Head is a cozy late-night spot for steaks. It's tucked away in a Marina neighborhood and many locals dine here. I came here for dinner on a Friday and it was pretty loud and lively. Luckily we didn't have to wait and were seated at a very tiny table for two. The interior could use some updating. The space was very cramped and dark with old wooden furniture. I ordered the seasonal salad for a fresh and light bite. The salad tasted great and was tossed in light vinaigrette with gorgonzola, apples, oranges, caramelized onions, pecans and cranberries. We also ordered the filet mignon. The steak wasn't tender and flavorful as we had hoped for. We asked for medium rare, but it was cooked medium well. The size was small in comparison to its price. We chose the baked sweet potato for our side, but the potato was over cooked and was too soft for my liking. They weren't so generous with the sides. We only got a third of a sweet potato, one piece of portabella mushroom and a few green beans. What was a little surprising was that they only take cash or debit cards...a steakhouse in the Marina? I think I'd be better off getting a piece of steak of Marina Meats or going to House of Prime Rib. read more

Here's the deal: Sometimes in life, you get spoiled, and you forget to appreciate the little things that make your life better/easier/more pleasant. This unassuming, lets-be-honest hidden, unpretentious steak joint is old school, as in, they've served me steamed mixed vegetables and rice pilaf with my steak before. I've never been able to get a ribeye steak here, which is my preferred cut. This restaurant is NOT WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE in any sense of the word. They don't take credit cards, so you'd better bring cash. So why do I like it and give it so many stars? Well, there are very few restaurants generally open as late as the Brazen Head is under normal circumstances (pre-shelter-in-place, it was 1 am, if I recall correctly!) that provide "real" food, ie, not just greasy fried food that arrived at some dive frozen off a Sysco truck! The service has always been friendly enough, helpful enough, and the food itself is perfectly decent and reasonably priced for what it is. It isn't a big restaurant, so it's rarely super-loud, such a nice change from so many of the packed, deafeningly loud trendy places packed with hipsters, prepsters, and tech bros! A great word for this place would be "unpretentious", and I appreciate that quite a bit in the modern restaurant landscape! I don't go here often, but when I do, I'm always happy I did! read more

Excellent service, lukewarm food, tough prime rib - overrated. I had checked on Google about top steak houses and one of them listed was Brazen Head. Our group of 3 decided to try it as were were frequent visitors of Izzy's on Steiner and wanted to experience something else. Our male host led us to a table of 3 in the middle of the restaurant, flopped the menus down, and walked away. He apparently didn't care that one of the chairs could not be pulled out from the table. We finally asked someone if we could be seated elsewhere and since it was Monday at around 6PM, they accommodated us. We ordered a shrimp scampi dinner $27, NY steak $43, and prime rib $45 along with some drinks. The restaurant interior is dark like a throwback to the 1950s and the chairs were not very comfortable. Our meals arrived quickly, but the potatoes, vegetables, and rice pilaf was barely lukewarm. My prime rib was tough and seemed like it was reheated from the previous night. I've had better prime rib at a Chinese restaurant (Kenny's in Pacifica) at half the price. Our waitress provided excellent service and my associates meal were adequate. For allegedly being a neighborhood haunt and the prices, you would expect something better. Quite disappointing - I guess we'll continue to eat at Izzys. read more

Stopped off there for last minute dinner with my girl. Drinks were tasty and strong, We had a Rye old fashion and mezcal margarita. The French onion soup (top notch ) also the brie and roasted garlic were a big hit as appetizers. For dinner I had the tasty and juicy prime rib and my girl had the petite filet both were prepared to perfect temp. The waiter was great and recommended a great Red wine to accompany our meal. I've been coming to, and enjoying, the Brazen Head for years so shame on me for not posting sooner. I was delighted when they reopened for outdoor dining and have made it my go-to place. I've introduced 5 people to BH since the pandemic started and they were all delighted. The service and the food is always been spot on. The prime rib is my favorite. And the staff has repeatedly offered terrific wine recommendations. If you haven't been to the Brazen Head yet...GO! read more

Only true SF natives know about Brazen Head. Although it's in the popular Cow Hollow neighborhood, it's a little off the beaten path (tucked away in a residential area). But once you find it, you're in for a true San Francisco treat. Immediately upon entering, you'll feel like you're in a different city from a different era. It's darkly lit and sultry with plenty of cozy booth seating, and a welcoming bar right at its nucleus. To be perfectly honest, I've only ever sat at the bar (and it's always a great way to chat with other locals and the friendly bartenders). They've got a bevy of classic cocktails to choose from. There's something about that this place that always make me crave a Manhatten or whiskey concoction. But they also have plenty of beer and wine options. One of the great things about Brazen Head is that they're one of the few places in this part of town that serves delicious food past midnight, so it's great for all you night owls. This is by no means your average Marina bar. This is a Marina bar for adults who aren't just looking to get wasted. In fact, I would highly recommend Brazen Head for a 1st date or especially at the end of the night on your third date. ; ) Hope you all have the check it out. Cheers! read more

We had an incredible experience. They have wonderful staff and divine meals. My favorite dish is the lobster pasta!

A classic San Francisco type of joint, dimly lit and intimate so you can feel comfortable if you're in a suit or just dressed casually. Lots of dark wood and red lights. Minimal design outside and wooden shutters camouflage the spot. Cash only. Real old school ! I started with the escargot, which came out on a sizzling platter and had filled the air with an aroma of rich butter, garlic and seasoning. Served with toasted bread it was quite a treat. The veal piccata followed and was also very flavorful. My favorite was the NY strip steak. It was cooked right and I liked the cream sauce. A lot of places can cook a great steak, but its the little things they do that set them apart. This is a great spot if you are into old school/ no frills ambiance. Its elegant but not over the top or try hard. It feels like some one opened it ages ago and said it was done right the first time so nothing will need to be changed. The kitchen is open super late so if your need a nice spot for a real meal late night the Brazen Head has got ya! read more

I really like this restaurant! It's dark in a good way; broody with a great bar and excellent food. The service is outstanding! Every time I've been here, the servers were super courteous and prompt. It's hard to find good food open late in San Francisco so this is an excellent choice. read more

Cool atmosphere and open late. The foods alright but pricy for small portions tho. I ordered 2 daily specials the hanger steak and the lobster bisque. The hanger steak came with greens and mashed potatoes which were ok but the medium rare hanger steak topped with blue cheese crumbles was very tasty and juicy. The lobster bisque didnt taste bad but it had no chunks of lobster in it and was a cup size serving of creamy broth in a bowl for 10 bucks. Between a steak dinner and appetizer I wasnt even full. Service was ok. I was alone so I ate at the bar as to not take up a table and they seemed disappointed I wasnt buying drinks while in uniform and on my brief lunch break before returning to work. All in all it wasnt a bad experiance the guy next to me was a regular and made good conversation but if im gonna treat myself and spend like 50 bucks in 20 minutes somewhere I expect to leave full and content. read more

Bad service. Delivery is shit. They don't follow basic directions like please cook the steak nor do they provide napkins or utensils. Problematic when you are staying at a small hotel. When you call to let them know, they don't care. Over priced for this level of food and service. Not recommended. Response to the owner: I did request utensils by checking the proper box on the app. Your team just failed to look at that when packing it up. You guys also failed to properly cook the steak. At the price you charge, you should put much more care into your prep and service. Don't blame UberEats, they didn't do anything wrong. read more

Get the prime rib. It's the best item on the menu. Excellent cocktails too. Enjoy this local gem.

Let me start by saying that the food here is good. The ambience is cool. The location great. What isn't cool is the $1.68 "convenience" fee that was tacked onto my bill. Convenient for what? You didn't do anything convenient for me. I'm sorry but I'm not playing this game with SF restaurants where you tack on an extra $3 for health insurance or convenience or whatever. We are already taxed to death in California and it isn't my responsibility to pay your employee's health insurance. So unfortunately for the waitress who was fantastic, her tip was cut $1.68 short. That may sound harsh but the reality is, the owner of the restaurant chose to add $1.68 fee to the bill. Therefore he can cover the $1.68 less on the tip. It's the principle of the matter that Californians pay taxes out of our asses and we go to restaurants to help the local economy and in turn they try to stick us with extra fees to cover costs that they don't want to come out of their pockets. Unfortunately, because of this, we will not be coming back. Too bad too because the food here is good. read more

I love this place and have been dining here for over 20 years. Don't bother with their signature dish, "Chicken Marsala". It was delicious just a year ago, but they have changed it to a bone-in leg and you will leave hungry. Please bring back your good piece of chicken breast. No one wants to be served a chicken bone. The tomato and burrata salad should not be served year round. I was told the "heirloom tomatoes are amazing", but this was not the case. A tasteless green tomato and really bad. We left the tomatoes on the plate while nibbling on the burrata and crackers that were served with the dish. Really hate writing this review, but thoroughly disappointed tonight. . . read more

I've been going to the Brazen Head for decades. I'm recovering from surgery so I'm stuck in a rehab center but I still order now & then through an app. The food is generally good. I do have a complaint about their "baked potatoes" since they aren't baked, they're microwaved and for what you pay, you should get a real baked potato. You can easily taste the difference. I like their filet mignon but be prepared to pay a lot for their steaks. The biggest improvement would be to start baking the potato. It used to be more moderately priced. I miss those days. Using an app brings the cost up to the point where I just don't order as often. read more

Arrived a little late on a Saturday without reservation but was able to get a table on patio right away. Host was pleasant. Server was also pleasant and professional. Outdoor seating was nice with each table in its own "cubby" with a small heat lamp hanging over table. Not fancy but nice and cozy. Menu is meat and potatoes with some Italian influence. All of our food was very good. The only reason for 4 stars vs 5 is that the food seemed a bit expensive for what we got. That said I would definitely come back here. read more
