Build Your Own Bowl - Unlimited Toppings
    Alexa R.

Brasa Peruvian Kitchen is such a delicious hidden gem! Tucked away in the basement food hall of One New York Plaza in FiDi, it might take a little effort to get to, but it's absolutely worth it. If you're looking for a high-quality, healthy fast-casual meal packed with Peruvian superfoods that's served by friendly and passionate employees, this spot delivers! I'm a sucker for a build-your-own bowl with unlimited toppings, so I went all out. I got a base of half spinach and half Peruvian quinoa, double protein with marinated tuna and spicy chili shrimp, and loaded it up with toppings--Peruvian red onion salsa criolla, golden beets, sweet drop peppers (packed with vitamin A and C), raw shredded carrots, steamed broccoli, and queso fresco. To top it off, I added the avocado blossom and sweet potato blossom, which are delicious piped-on dips made with simple ingredients. For example, the sweet potato blossom is made with puréed roasted sweet potatoes, avocado oil, and salt--simple but so good! For sauces, I got the double avocado macaroni and mango turmeric on the side. Both were good, but I liked the sweet and tangy mango turmeric dressing better. The bowl came out to about $20, which isn't cheap, but considering the portion was enough for two meals and the quality was excellent, it was worth it. The proteins are pre-portioned, and while both were good, I'd probably go with just the marinated tuna next time to save a few bucks. The shrimp was tasty but a bit more spiced than I typically prefer. My favorite toppings were the golden beets, the unique sweet drop peppers, and the blossoms. I also tried the strawberry camu cake smoothie, which was refreshing without being too sweet. I love that all their smoothies are high in protein, and learning that the camu camu smoothie has more vitamin C than 10 oranges was pretty cool! Next time, I'm definitely adding the giant Peruvian corn (choclo) to my bowl, which is high in fiber and vitamins. But honestly, I'm obsessed and would love to work my way through the entire menu!

Good for those wanting something different, especially at One New York Plaza, but, unfortunately, it just wasn't in my wheelhouse. Ever since Brasa opened in early September at 1NYP, it has been packed with throngs of customers during lunch time. With already the ever popular Naya right across from it, it sure gives it a run for its money for longest line. If you're new to Brasa, consider it your Peruvian Naya. Same concept, but with Peruvian-inspired ingredients. Honestly, I'm no Peruvian cuisine expert beyond Pio Pio and your local Peruvian restaurant that serves Pio Pio-type food. However, Brasa reminded me nothing of Pio Pio - to some that's a good thing, but for me I prefer Pio Pio and your more traditional Peruvian food. I ordered a build your own bowl and much of the ingredients, specifically the base and mains, were recognizable to the average person (e.g. greens, rice, potatoes, tofu, mushrooms, chicken, beef, etc). Some of the toppings were a bit new to me, but I added it all in to try. To sum it up, it wasn't my cup of tea. To each their own and the lines are long everyday for a reason, so obviously it fits the bill for others, but for me? It felt a bit disorganized and the flavors just didn't mix well. The crunchy textured toppings, like the Toasted Corn Canchitas, were TOO crunchy to the point my teeth hurt when I bit into them. The chicken was OK, but didn't stand out enough. The rest of the mixture, like I said, just didn't mold well and the flavor overall was just OK. Maybe I'll give them another try and try not to throw every topping in there, but if I do, the thought is that it SHOULD still taste good. It's not going to be for everyone, however, my expectations were pretty high and I hate to say it didn't meet them.

Don't go to this restaurant, the orders take around 45 minutes and some items are missing. Nothing good to tell.

$16 for a bowl with only a quarter pound of meat. The food was good but not for the price!

La Pulperia offers all-you-can-drink mimosas for $40 or their brunch cocktails for $60 for a 90-minute sitting. I had the all-you-can-drink cocktails and my glass was never empty. The staff was great and very attentive - they would check in before bringing a new drink, but it was never long before it was delivered. The food was also delicious. We started with guacamole and corn & manchego empanadas. The guacamole was obviously fresh, and the empanadas were hot and cheesy. I had the Pulled Pork Tostada - it came with two eggs on top of beans, tortillas, and tender pulled pork. My mom had the burger, and it was cooked to perfection and huge. My aunt had the Market Salad with Skirt Steak, and she raved about the steak. Now the show - the show was AMAZING! The queens were engaging, and their dance moves were unreal! It was one of the best drag shows I have ever seen! It would get a 20 out of 10 if that were possible. What a great experience, it was one of the highlights of our trip.

We ordered the octopus, tuna tartare, skirt steak, and chicken, along with a margarita and the Palermo Mezcal cocktail. Every single item was exceptional. Even the complimentary bread that came out at the beginning was a 10/10. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and we loved being able to watch the kitchen prepare our food from our table. It's a small kitchen, which makes it even more impressive that they're consistently turning out such thoughtful and delicious dishes. I noticed some reviews mentioning slow service, but I honestly think those people missed the entire point of the experience. Palermo isn't meant to be rushed. The atmosphere is cozy, intimate, and feels like you're sitting in someone's living room enjoying a meal they've carefully prepared just for you. We never felt pressured to order quickly or rushed through our meal, which made the experience even better. Every dish was meticulously prepared, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. You can tell that everything is made with care and attention to detail. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, Palermo created an experience that felt warm, intentional, and memorable. If you're looking for a spot that makes you feel like you've been transported to Argentina, where you're welcomed to slow down, enjoy great company, and savor your meal at your own pace, this is the place for you.
