I really enjoyed this chicken shop which felt reminiscent of a chicken shop I visited in Peru. One reviewer had said they found the chicken dry but I did not find that to be the case. I was excited to see Manzanita and Inca Kola available for purchase. While the fries pictured on the sandwich board appeared authentic, the actual fries that I got were more Americanized though still good. Green sauce and garlic sauce were both good. This spot was so perfect for a quick lunch or dinner spot! I picked up my food and it was ready in about 20 minutes. I picked out the chicken empanada and the spinach & cheese empanada for $4 each which I thought was a steal! The cheese was so perfectly stringy and melted and the chicken was so juicy. They were so so delicious and I definitely recommend. The people were also really sweet and gave me extra sauce! I placed my first pickup order from Chirp and had a pleasant experience. The eatery is small, looks clean, has nice decor, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I placed my pickup order and it was the Chirp Chicken (Rotisserie chicken, sweet plantains, lettuce, tomato, green sauce, on a chibatta roll). I throughly enjoyed the chicken and that it wasn't fried, the green sauce was very good and I enjoyed how it got soaked up by the bread, and those sweet plantains are MY FAVORITE! However, I could not keep the burger together. I had to enjoy it with a knife and fork, but I didn't mind, at all. I preferred it that way, anyway, and it was delicious. I also ordered, but forgot to take a photo of, the Passion Fruit Pie. The Passion Fruit flavor, combined with the pie crust, made this a good choice and is recommended. We tried takeout from this branch. Chix taste is good enough. An order of combo comes with 2 big sides which seemed like a good price until you chose their yuca and brown rice (which are not good). Maduros though are delicious and just cooked at the right tenderness. Skip the small and bland-tasting flan. At $8 apiece it is not worth it. How they get it wrong with the flan, I don't know. Counter persons could be a little more welcoming but seemingly not--just abrupt and cold. So many other chicken places competing in the market, l hope they would improve to make the dining/takeout process a nicer experience for their customers. read more

I can't believe I have been walking past this place the past few times I've worked I'm the city. My family and I LOVE Peruvian food and they're located on my way to work, right down the block! After seeing their little sign on the corner, I decided to try them out. My first chance was with lunch that the manager at my office bought for me, for being a spectacular healthcare worker *cheese*. I opted for the quarter chicken with two sides. I went with maduros and the squash stew. First of all, the food was delivered quickly and was package with good intent. The took care to ensure that everything was safe during travel. I forgot to ask for green sauce but they made sure to pack one for me. The first thing I tasted was the chicken. It was so good. Peruvian rotisserie chicken a the best rotisserie in the world. I love it. Theirs falls off the bone. The meat is so well seasoned and the skin is the best part. The maduros were exactly how I like them, a little caramelized in color and flavor. I love a char on a sweet plantain. That's how my mother makes them. Next, I tried the squash stew and you came immediately smell and taste the hint of ginger they got going on in there. It's so good! I love the tender pieces of squash and the peas and carrots floating around in the broth. Last, I tried a bit of the passion fruit pie and it really does taste just like passion fruit. It's uncanny. It's not too sweet and it reminds me of a key lime pie or flan consistency. Looking over the menu, they are very inclusive when it comes to vegetarians and others that don't eat meat, with shrimp and vegetable options. CHIRP will probably be my go to whenever I'm in the city. The price is on trend with Manhattan lunch pricing but a filling meal will only set you back $15. I only wish that you could pay an upcharge to get their fried rice as a side with their combos, instead of just white or brown rice. Plantains probably could have been cooked a bit longer, but the flavor on the chicken was really great. The guy at the counter was nice (although a bit slow to come up front), and threw in the green sauce, which also tasted pretty good. Some other reviews mention getting charged extra for sauce, but I don't believe I got charged for it. If the price point was a little bit lower, I'd probably have given this place five stars. A quarter chicken and a side seemed like a pretty small portion size for the amount paid. I'm a tiny person that doesn't eat much, and it really wasn't enough to fill me up for lunch. We are longtime Pio Pio fans, but saw Chirp as #1 with Pio Pio at#2 in Yelp under Peruvian Chicken. A change, and comparison, seemed fun. We ordered our 'usual' - whole chicken, maduros, rice, red beans, green sauce. Takeout Pio Pio never matched the fabulous fiery sauce, amazing chicken and sticky maduros we had in-house on upper First Avenue 20 years ago, but we are still fans. The sauce got dumbed down for city tastes, perhaps. But we had high hopes for this Chirp expression of Peruvian food. Delivered on time, white (sorry, no yellow) rice overflowed its container, scattering grains everywhere. The maduros were, well, maduros - muy bueno. Red beans came well flavored and with chunks of sweet potato, unexpectedly yummy... but the 'large' beans order came in one of those not-large puffy white coffee cups. Pio Pio beans are larger and creamier though blander and their yellow rice is more in line with 'Peruvian'. Now the chicken: larger than the tiny but yummy Pio Pio - absolutely no Peruvian flavor - moist, really tasty rotisserie chicken. Chicken container came stapled closed - why? - as did the two sturdy paper bags holding our order. Is that ambiance? Well, we appreciated the care, but missed the Peruvian. If you're looking for tasty chicken with nice sides, Chirp is a pretty good option. If Peruvian is what you crave, maybe not. Oh yes, the electronic card notice said "chirp pio pio". Excellent, excellent, excellent. Chirp is f'in delicious. I got the chicken sandwich (i forgot the name but it comes with sweet plantains on the sandwich which i love) and their fries. The fries were so good crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, nice amount of salt on them. Their Garlic Aioli sauce is to die for. I like how it isn't a fried chicken breast or grilled chicken breast but shredded chicken. I think that's an amazing difference that I'm not used to but love it more than ever now. Service is excellent, the person taking the order up front always in a good mood, always joking too so it's a positive environment. The place is decent, definitely a Lowkey place to get food and enjoy. Drinks were good (i had the colombiana soda can). I would get this for lunch everyday but lemme watch my diet !
