Must try: Limeno Ceviche, Lomo Saltado, and Juanita's Chicken! Why: Everything we had was delicious! This place hit the spot after a couple hours of pickleball. Loved the ceviche packed with flavor and textures. Lomo Saltado also hit the spot with tender and juicy filet mignon slices. Love the chicken with green sauce. We ordered a whole chicken to share but ended up only eating half of chicken so I took home the leftover with green sauce and enjoyed the next day. We washed our meal down with refreshing Peruvian beer. Note: When you walk in and pass the bar, you are met with a beautifully decorated room with high ceilings making it feel spacious. Clean restaurant with many tables for small and large parties. Hostess and waiters were all friendly, helpful, and attentive. Yes, it's more expensive but we felt the portions were fairly large. They also have a lunch combo special for $15 that I need to come back and try!
This time around we were seated downstairs, which didn't afford us the privacy of the upstairs catwalk from a decade prior, but we each loved our meals. We were also happy that the portions were quite large, so we had plenty to take back to our hotel as leftovers. I had the Mero Norteño and it was outstanding! My wife had the Corvina a lo Macho, which she thoroughly enjoyed. We also used a lot of that green sauce that you see in my photograph....just delicious! The sangria was really tasty, but we both felt that it could have benefited if they had put significantly more fruit in the pitcher. TLDR: It had been about 12 years since we had dined here, but we decided to visit Pio Pio again on our trip to NYC last week., and boy were we glad we did. Truth be told, after 12 years and lots of trips to NYC trying new restaurants each time, we had forgotten that we had been to this place ...but when we walked and saw the interior my wife immediately said "This place looks very familiar I think we ate here before a play once.. We ate at a table right over there [to the left of the top of the staircase , where there are no longer any tables]. As soon as she said that, I immediately remembered the place and remembered what a good time we had last time.
Delicious ! Great taste, friendly service. Loved the decor. We had Juanita meal and split among 3 and plenty to take home. We also enjoyed a pitcher of sangria love to come back and try the lomo saltado.
First time having Peruvian food and it was so good! The sangria pitcher paired well with the chicken. Honestly, everything was actually really good. I forgot what the dish was called but the fries and hot dogs were my favorite. Service was friendly. We had this nice gentleman and he was in and out but made sure to stop by and asked if we needed anything. The ambiance of this place is massive. We thought it was small and only the first floor, but then we kept walking and discover a downstairs and its huge.
Holy delicious! This place is incredible. The portions are hearty and the pieces are impossible to beat. When they say their sangria is famous, they're not lying. It's incredible! Monroe was the bartender and he was awesome!!
By the end of the meal, all that remained was a pile of chicken carcasses--a sure sign we had done things right. I went to Pio Pio with two friends, and the experience started strong. The first thing placed on the table was their famous aji verde, the vibrant green sauce. I couldn't resist dipping my fork in for a taste--spicy, fresh, and absolutely addictive. We ordered a spread that truly showcased the menu: Mama Juanita's rotisserie chicken, perfectly seasoned and juicy; corvina; and a ceviche mixto loaded with shrimp, octopus, calamari, red onions, cilantro, rocoto pepper, and lime juice. It was so refreshing and flavorful that I found myself spooning up every last drop of the citrusy marinade. The lomo saltado was another standout--a savory Peruvian stir-fry with marinated strips of beef, served alongside crispy fries. We also added a side of maduros, their sweetness balancing the meal beautifully. The ambiance was casual, comfortable, and simple, with unique walls decorated in intertwined tree branches that added a rustic touch. The service matched the food--our waiter, the busboy, and the manager were all attentive, engaging, and genuinely friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. Dessert was Tres Leches Cake. One bite in, and it basically melts in your mouth- no chewing required. It's sweet, soggy and by the end, you're not sure if you ate cake... or drank it--but either way, no regrets. Overall, it was a memorable meal full of bold flavors, great company, and warm hospitality.
This is the best Pio Pio location! I have eaten at a few different locations but this one hit it out of the park for us! Walked In on Valentine's day at the end of lunch and it was great! There is so much seating in the dining room that is beautiful and well decorated. Food came out hot and great! Cocktails were so delicious we moved to the bar to continue drinking and even enjoyed their special dessert for the holiday! What a memorable night with the wonderful team at PioPio 8! Hope to be back soon!
This place is awesome. My husband ordered the lomo saltado, and I had the 1/4 chicken (breast and wing) with saffron rice and beans. We also tried a lychee cocktail, which was really refreshing. Everything hit the spot and the portions were satisfying. The only small note is that the beans could have used a bit more seasoning, but overall the meal was still very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this spot and would come back again.
The service was on point. The ceviche was phenomenal and flavors were so fresh. The music is great a bit loud you can still connect.
Everything tasted so fresh! The server and hostess were very kind. The place is huge so you most likely won't need to wait to be sat. I can't wait to come back
This place is ginormousssss. Tons of seating and relatively empty when I went at 6pm on a Tuesday. Good and pretty fast service. My favorite dish was probably the calamari with the green sauce. Juanita chicken was good but it wasn't like crazyyyy juicy. With the green sauce was good. Lomo saltado was good! Honestly better than expected the steak was pretty tender not dry. And it wasn't too salty. Fried rice was meh. Salad was also meh. The yuca fires were soooo dry but maybe that's yuca. The sauce was good tho and plantains and fries were good.
We came for lunch after volunteering for 9/11 Day at the Intrepid, and our group of 11 was treated wonderfully. I called just 15 minutes ahead to reserve a table, and the lady who answered was so accommodating. When we arrived, she greeted us warmly and had everything ready to go. Our waiter, Caesar, was pure joy! His personality lit up the table, funny, attentive, and completely on point managing such a large group. We ordered three Matadors to share, which included whole rotisserie chickens, rice, beans, tostones (we swapped one order for sweet plantains), fries with sausages (salchipapa), and avocado salad. It's my favorite, and it was just as delicious as always. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back. A perfect meal to cap off a meaningful day. Looking forward to next year!
I was excited to finally try Pio Pio. This location has a nice ambiance and tons of seating downstairs. The service is incredibly quick - we were greeted, order placed and food served within a 20 minute span. The sangria was so yummy! Both the red and white were great. A bit on the sweeter side though. The juanita's chicken + green sauce was a delicious combo. That dish, along with the arroz chaufa were our favorites. The arroz chaufa almost had a hibachi flavor to it, which we loved! The portions were MASSIVE - for however many dishes you plan to order, I'd reduce it by one to accommodate the portions (especially if you won't be able to take leftovers).

We chose this restaurant due to the proximity of the theatre and to be away from the crowds on 8th Avenue. As you walk in you're greeted warmly; the first level is dark and moody great vibe for date night. Take yourself on a solo date, dine and enjoy the bar for your viewing or tasting. Wasn't sure if there was an elevator as there are two sets of stairs to get to the lower level. Downstairs there's plenty of seating. Waiter made suggestions as we weren't sure what to eat. Portions are large; I'm no guessing it's family style, the big bowl of chicken soup was tasty. We could barely eat it all. Lunch tomorrow is already covered with the food ad took home. read more
I came here to celebrate my birthday but it's a little disappointed. for one, they let us wait for 30min to sit in and they are pretty short staffed that day so everything just takes a lot time to come. ceviche is good but the chicken is a bit dry. the seafood payaya is not bad. I love the portion is big so good shareable size. fries and sausage is good but salty. the environment is kinda loud so have to talk loudly read more
Entering this restaurant, there is a darkness that I was very aware of and the bar is to the right. The main dining room is downstairs and it was to my liking that it was well lit. We had been to the Pio Pio location, part of a chain, in Jackson Heights, but the vibe here is entirely different. Less loud and more relaxed. Our server was good and efficient. Our group was 7 adults, but on a Saturday night, there were families with youngsters. Our orders all came as expected. The calamari came from large bodied squid. It was nicely cooked with the right tenderness. The rotisserie chicken is good and consistent. Sangria was tasty and with a nice kick to it. Overall a nice crowd pleasing meal. read more

Tonight was my third time coming to this restaurant, and it's always just as good as the first time! Upon entering the restaurant, you're greeted right away by the front of house staff, and I've never experienced a wait- we're always seated right away. I've also made a point to order a different thing each of the three times I've been. The food also always arrives quickly, and the staff is extremely attentive and helpful. To start, I'd definitely recommend the avocado salad. The portion is big enough to be shared amongst a group of 3-4 people. We also got the tostones to share, which comes with a garlic sauce that compliments it perfectly. Another thing at Pio Pio that you absolutely cannot miss is their sangria. Like the salad, a pitcher of sangria is large enough to serve 3-4 people. It's absolutely delicious and doesn't taste like alcohol- but I will warn you, it is pretty strong. They don't have too many vegetarian options, but there are some things. Since I eat fish and shellfish, that increases the options slightly, but it's definitely a good place for those who do eat meat. For the arroz chaufa, it comes with chicken by default, but they can remove it upon request to make the dish vegetarian. This is a great restaurant that I've had nothing but good experiences in. Got a seat immediately without a reservation, waiter was well informed. Limited vegetarian options but I was able to get the fettuccine with veggies instead of seafood. Portions are big, esp the sides so consider sharing. Drinks were nice and strong read more

I guess I'm a little shocked by their overall rating. The aesthetics of this location are amazing really nine days spot . They are known for their chicken so I got a half chicken and tostones. The food came incredibly fast, almost too fast but no complaints about it. I had a pisco sour which was pretty good. Now the service is where they lose their stars. Once the food came I asked for condiments and their Peruvian beer-- it till then about 20 minutes to give me both which was longer than it took the food to come. They weren't very attentive to my table and the oddest part about the whole interaction was when I asked for the check he announced the total amount before giving it to me, which the heck does that? He may as well have done it on a megaphone -- very weird and not sure if I'll be here again. read more

My family came here on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday and had a great time. We made a reservation and were seated promptly downstairs. The decor is simplistic and beautiful. The food was reasonably priced and we were able to order a platter with a few extras. The red sangria was one of the best I've ever had. The service was great and the waiters were enthusiastic to sing happy birthday. read more

This chicken is sooooooo deelish! Went for 33rd wedding anniversary and was not disappointed. Calamari was perfect. I had avocado salad with my chicken and hubby had rice and beans. We had the perfect sangria. The service was impeccable. Not overbearing but attentive. I wish there was a location in Brooklyn but this is chicken I will travel for. Too full for dessert. read more

Really hyped, and with a lot of reviews, the expectations were high. What was good? When for starters the chicken was indeed quite good. But in the context of other Peruvian chicken I've had in the past, it was not extraordinary. Yes the skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. The arroz chaufa hit all the savory notes that I was looking for too. The sangria didn't disappoint either. What was bad? Overall, not too much other than the sporadic and slightly chaotic service. Not necessarily any marks against Pio Pio for this, I think it was just a busy night. The main issue I had was the frozen chicken used in the arroz chaufa. In a restaurant that is known for its chicken, you wouldn't think they would cheap out on it at any point. But, this was simply not the case. It was dry, chewy, and clearly not as fresh as their rotisserie chicken. It didn't scare me off entirely from going back, but I was disappointed to say the least. Most people have extremely low bars for chicken as a meat they would spend money on at a restaurant. Don't give people a reason to complain I just don't get it. Looking back on it, I would have said something or sent the dish back, not because I'm an asshole, but because I know they can do better. read more
Fresh, fast, filling, & inexpensive (for NYC)! this place, does it all they have breakfast style (eggs, omelettes, French toast) as well as lunch options (whitefish salad, spicy tuna, salad, regular tuna, salad, egg, salad, and chicken salad.) . Coffee options are drip or espresso based for every taste. if you can't find something here, you've got a problem! Service is typically New York, not rude but definitely matter of fact. Hot tip know what you want before you come to the register. The menus are inside the door. Check it out know what you want. Have a back up plan as needed. Ambiance - average to loud - it's like any coffee shop vibe. People aren't here to linger. They're here to eat and move along. read more
Dined here for the first time after seeking a restaurant near the theater district and receiving a recommendation from my son. We weren't disappointed. We started with Pisco sours, which were delicious and moved right on to appetizers. The ceviche Saltado is exquisite. It had lots of seafood and was quite tasty. The avocado salad proved to be our only disappointment. While there was a generous amount of avocado, the rest of the salad left much to be desired as it was mostly iceberg lettuce. We were very pleased with our three seafood entrées. The Jalea (large size) was enormous and easily enough for two people. Chock-full of lightly fried, though not greasy, calamari, shrimps and assorted seafood. The Mero Norteño was an exceptionally tender and flavorful, sea bass and the Parihuela seafood soup provided a variety of seafood in a delicious sauce. We were seated toward the front of the restaurant and were comfortable and not cramped. Service is friendly though in the front probably not as attentive as elsewhere in the restaurant. Located mid block on East side of 10th Avenue. Not well marked- easy to miss. read more
The food was good. The chicken was drier than normal. It is usually consistently good. I went for the memory of the juicy chicken. This is one of the best deals in town! You get a nice amount of food. Always get the green sauce it is a hot sauce that makes everything better. The service was good we waited a little while for a waiter when the place was empty. Honestly... I thought the food here was way too salty for my taste. We got 3 dishes to share between the two of us: - Juanita's Chicken: 6/10 (ok chicken but the skin was way too salty) - Piqueo Pacifico: 5/10 (tooo salty) - Empanada: 8/10 (this was the best dish out of all the dishes we ordered. This wasn't salty, but the inner chicken filling wasn't the most exciting.) Vibes were good and service was good. read more

The huge area of the restaurant is nothing I expect from the outside. Restaurant interior is tastefully decorated with South American flavor. Server suggested getting the Matador combo for 4 and later Lomo Saltado if whole roast chicken is not enough. I appreciate this truthfulness. Matador combo is enough for 4 of us. Matador combo is very good! Roast chicken is juicy, tender and delicious. Its aroma is so appetizing. Roast chicken is one dish I hesitate to order afraid it might come out dry. However, this did not disappoint. It comes with sides of plantain, salad, fries and sausages and a scoop of rice and beans. It's a must try! read more
Huge spot! Not sure how they pay that rent but I'm here for it! Got the Chicken which is delicious. Even if you're not that hungry get at least half a chicken you'll want it or whoever you're eating with will! Got the rice beans and platanos maduros. All as expected and yummy! Service was quick about an hour before closing on a weekday. Ambience is bar like upstairs and cozy and darker and better suited for small groups of 2-4 max and brighter and more diner like downstairs and better suited for large groups. My go to Caribbean spot in Hells Kitchen Times Square Midtown area. Always reliable! read more
