Very good happy hour! The walk up counter is convenient but the staff isn't always the friendliest. They are very accommodating for using their private upstairs space, especially on the whim when work or studying needs to be done. The fish and chips are NOT the greatest, I find the gluten free coating to be very strange, not very crisp, dense, bland, and with a very weird smell. I've gotten unappetizing cuts of fish before as well, along the blood line or connective tissue and was not edible. They're are just so so but are very cheap....so I guess you get what you pay for at happy hour. The fries and tarter however are very good. My co worker loves the harvest salad. The eggplant sandwich is excellent! Fried eggplant, buffalo mozzarella, tomato and pesto with a balsamic drizzle. read more

I LOVE the gluten free options on this menu! There are also great happy hour specials including a late night food happy hour special, which there should be more of downtown. The cafeteria style makes it feel a little cold and hollow and I would come back more often if it were cozier. Chandeliers could lower the feeling of such a high, vast ceiling. Local meat sources, yay. Smallish servings, boo. Kids' mac & cheese has big green chunks of leeks in it. What kid wants leeks in their mac & cheese? My kid would only eat a third of it. Yummy food, appreciate the gluten-free options. I just feel that places where you have to order at the counter and get all of your own water, silverware, and napkins, then bus your own table feel less cozy and comfortable. Great beer selection but we were inclined to just go elsewhere rather than wait in line to order more at the counter. Our food came out at different times. 2 of our orders came out right away, the other 2 took 15 additional minutes, making it awkward to eat together. My salad also had several rotten pieces of lettuce. Macaroni and cheese was pretty yummy. Not somewhere I'll go every week but the yummy food will be a nice option to have once in a while. read more

I just ordered take out from these guys. Got the fish tacos with tortilla soup on the side. I can't have dairy or gluten so the tacos were a good choice for me. I did ask for no cojita cream sauce. Even without the sauce, they were pretty damn good. The mango salsa was the perfect touch and the tacos were just enough to fill me up without feeling overly full. They provided compostable utensils and a to-go box which was really nice to see as well. read more

They've got some really good food here. I come regularly. The Mediterranean sandwich...awesome. The fish and chips... Great fish a little soggy on the fries. Quinoa mac and cheese... Like heaven. Indian lentil soup had so much cinnamon it tasted like French toast. Fish tacos had a weird cheese cream sauce and unseasoned panko. The burger patty was a hockey puck. The posole was mediocre. That lentil soup was bad. read more

Good selections, well executed, nice space Pros: - Lots of variety on the menu - Large amount of local and/or organic items - Good vegetarian and gluten free options - Great tasting food and really reasonable prices Cons: - Ordering and drink system needs serious work - the same person who takes your order (& is usually really slow), then has to go to the bar on the opposite side of the restaurant to pour your beer/wine and bring it to your table. If there is a long line of people waiting to order, you either wait forever for your drink - sometimes even after you have eaten your food - or the people behind you ordering have to wait to order their food. They need to hire a bartender or move the beer/wine behind the counter w/ the non-alcoholic beverages - Lots of people working but mostly chatting and not clearing the bus tubs so the bus tubs are over flowing and no where to put plates that you've bused yourself - Restrooms are gross and doesn't look like cleaned very often. read more

I really like Brandywine Kitchen. This may come as a surprise for anyone who's read any of my other reviews - I'm not typically a fan of the whole "local" thing. But this place is good! They have a really good cheeseburger on their daily menu. The best thing I've ever had here was a cheeseburger they had as a special - I don't remember they fancy name they had for it, but it had beets on it and it was superb! I work very near Brandywine so eat here fairly regularly. You can't expect great wait service since that's not really their gig and, as others have mentioned, you bus your own table. My favorite food at the Bellingham market is definitely at Brandywine Kitchen. Great care is taken in the choice of ingredients, resulting in a healthy, and naturally organic meal. The hardest part about visiting Brandywine's booth, is deciding which wonderful menu item to select. Delicious sauces, with complex combinations of organic veggies, herbs, and spices are made fresh each day, and are spread on the handbaked bread, along with natural meatsl, fish, etc Yum! Brandywine Kitchens is also a wonderful idea for your catering events. Their delicious food can help with business events, weddings, or private parties. I can't say enough about them. Great atmosphere. Food bland. Counter person clueless. High prices for a cafeteria. You stand in line, order food, arrives at your table after a substantial wait and you get NO service thereafter and you bus your own dishes. No thanks. fish and chips = good fries, fish greasy and so tasteless I was dumbfounded. Not one bit of seasoning butter squash soup = bland but pretty tasty, came with two tiny, tiny slices of sliced French bread, enough for a two year old, no butter. Can't complain about the service, there wasn't any. If you sit in the church pew along the wall be prepared for some air time if someone heavier than you sits at the other end of the pew. Won't be back. If I am going to pay $23 for lunch I don't want to bus my own dishes. I can go to a fast food place for that action. read more

I always liked the atmosphere here. The food is made from quality ingredients, which is important. The service here consists of the kitchen staff bringing your food to your numbered table. I knew very little about the Brandywine Kitchen going in other than it was "fancy". The fancy aspect did not necessarily meet the general stereotpye for niceness, but what it did meet instead was an atmosphere that incorporated community feelings with upscale dining. The gluten-friendly menu is awesome; I haven't had good gluten free mac & cheese in years, and it blew me away. The salads and sandwiches are all fantastic as well, and they rotate specials so you can always enjoy new items. The carrot cake, also gluten free, sends your healthy dessert readings off the charts. read more

The food here is amazing. My 6 year old daughter and I love the hand cut fries & aioli dips. We've eaten here three times and every time was delicious. Salmon cakes, fried eggplant salad, & Bahn mi. I have tried about half the menu so far and everything has been good. The savory bread pudding a while back was a bit dry but had great flavor. Delightful family and date night oriented dining and relaxing place in downtown Bellingham Great menu with light to medium fare., from soup, to salad,, sandwiches (and entrees), and savoir- faire. My current favorites are the custom BLT, and a wicked double IPA! Great meeting,, eating, and greeting space. Consistent, tasty, fresh, and primarily local ingredients. Sometimes the fried things--french fries and fried fish--are over cooked and a little too brown bordering on toasty/burnt. But in general they have a good showing. I eat here often and consider it to be one of the top 5 places in downtown for quick and tasty food in the medium to high price range. I do wish they had some smaller offerings as everything is on large size, and with an accompanying higher price tag. Sometimes I want just a sandwich, but there are no a la carte options. read more

Very disappointed with this local favorite - from the time we walked in to the time we were served our food, it was almost an hour. Long lines, long waits...only to end up with completely mediocre food at prices better suited to a sitdown restaurant with table service. Manager was friendly, but overwhelmed and uncertain. Our party of 7 had a fantastic experience tonight at Brandywine! The variety of gluten free options was impressive - we tried the Mac & cheese, fish & chips, and carrot cake. Our server was friendly and attentive with the bonus of leopard print pants. The kids discovered the little notes tucked in the crevices of the brick wall and convinced us all to write something special for future patrons to possibly discover. The beer selection was also good and I enjoyed the lightly sweet hard cider. The space itself is very welcoming and warm. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town! read more

This used to be my faviort restraunt in town. I have now been twice where I encountered a rude employee who has ruined my dinner. The girl with short blond hair and nose piercing has been the reason behind it everytime. Last time she sold me something that was not available. Refused to give me my money back because of no manager and then only gave me the option of a 4 dollar soup for my 8 dollar purchase. Also that night my mac and cheese came with no cheese on it. It was nasty. The next time we decided to come in, my brother orders a kids menu item and didn't know, she mockingly said "you don't look 12" when he said oh sorry I ordered it last time she got all upset. At the end of us ordering she asked us to look over at some employees to tell her which ones sold it so us. When we wouldn't tell her she immediately went to the off duty employees and pointed at us and loadly said what he said. She proceeded to get after then. She was so loadly other customers where looking and looking at us. This was a horrible experience. I try really hard to keep going to places I like because everyone has bad days. But between not i'ding, being rude to other customers, other employees and now these two incidents I am not going to risk being put down or treaded like a pesent because of the way one employee doesn't understand how to treat someone. read more

This was my second time at Brandywine, and my first time was over five years ago, right after they opened. The first time around, I didn't really even fully grasp the "farm to fork" concept, but I'd have to think they were at the forefront of the movement. I moved to SoCal shortly after that first time, but I don't recall seeing any farm to fork places open up down there until the last couple of years. So kudos to Brandywine for trendsetting! I had the Salmon cakes the first time around, and I honestly don't remember enough to review them. I do simply remember I left that experience thoroughly satisfied. Today, I had the fish and chips, and my wife had the Apple Jalapeno Chicken Sandwich. I had a side of basil aioli to dip my fries in. My wife was raving about the sandwich. I took a bite myself and have to agree. The flavors combined perfectly with the spicy from the jalapenos pairing with the sweet of the apple. The baguette was just the perfect texture and really held it all together. She had Indian Curry Lentil soup on the side which was also really delicious. As for the fish and chips, it takes something special to make fish and chips stand out to me. At the end of the day, there's not much you can do to French fries and deep fried whitefish to make an impression and I've found that the separation is usually in the sauce you serve on the side. The fries and the fish were great - the fries had that perfect crispiness to them, and the fish were similarly fried to the perfect crisp while retaining the juiciness of the fish on the inside. There was a side of coleslaw that was a little on the small side - I thought it was actually a garnish till I accidentally ate some and realized it was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of creamier coleslaws, and this was a vinegar based dressing that was perfect. On the side, I had the tartar sauce and aioli sauce. I don't know if there's supposed to be anything special about the tartar sauce, but I loved it. It wasn't too creamy, and had just enough bite in it to cut through the richness of the fries and the fish. The basil aioli was a little bit more creamy, but the basil flavor was blended in so well I didn't mind at all. I used both sauces for both my fish and fries and loved every bite! read more

Always a good vibe here. Lots of family and friends gathering. I devour the fries with aoli. All the aolis are delicious but the basil is my favorite. (You can buy a side of it to take home for a few bucks!) I usually get the BLT until recently we tried the burger and IT'S OUT OF THIS WORLD. One of the best burgers in Bellingham.
