Eden Park

I've been seeing lots of good things about this place via social media so decided to give it a try…read morerecently. I can't say we were disappointed. We ate there on a Thursday evening (for hubby's birthday), and in the lead up to our booking, I have to say the customer service was amazing. Both my daughter and I are gluten intolerant, so lots of messages back and forth about what we could and couldn't have in order to be prepared to save time ploughing through a menu. Win! Also as it was hubby's birthday I arranged for a cake to be delivered and for them to present it at the end of the meal - nothing was too much trouble - to the point we could even add balloons/decorations if we wanted to! (We didn't!). The meal itself was good, the service was extremely attentive and the waitresses were happy to have a chat in between courses too. My hubby and I had the steak and whilst we've had a lot better (think Gaucho's) for a local restaurant they did a fine job in the way it was cooked and presented and tasted. My daughter had the burger (without the bun) and they ensured she had enough sides to make up for this fact. She really enjoyed it. For a Thursday it was fairly quiet in the restaurant, but they had two Deliveroo guys working overtime catering for the folk that wanted to eat at home. We saw them in and out all evening. This just shows that it's a popular place! My understanding on talking with friends is that it does get booked out on a weekend. I have to admit, they had lots of tasty things on the menu and we will be going back very soon to try something else! Will definitely be back!

Bromley

Formerly known as Madisons and after a long makeover, the restauarant has re-opened as D'Ardys…read more Themed after Laurel and Hardy with bold black and white themes and with the staff having access to the required bowler hats as well as plenty of memorabilia from the pair. I can only think that the restaurant is named to avoid copyright issues from the Laurel and Hardy estate. The restaurant was pretty full but we still managed to get a table. The staff and management are extremely friendly and helpful and very open and it was clear that they cared about the service they gave. The menu was reasonably priced and many of the dishes also themed from the comedy duo. Our party of four ordered a burger with nothing on (A Lonesome Pine), a rack of ribs in a delicious barbecue sauce (Another Fine Mess), a sirloin steak and a spicy chicken breast meal. Starters were shared and were a bowl of Nachos and two generously loaded potato skins with cheese and bacon. The starters arrived and were hot and delicious, and most of all, generous portions. Conversation was possible but sometimes the music got a little loud so raising voices were in order. I had overseen a few main courses arrive at other tables and it was very clear that the one thing these plates had in common were generosity in spades. One lady's jacket potato seemed to be the size of a marrow! Our own dishes were also no disappointment. The ribs I ordered practically filled the length of a large oval plate with fries heaped against the side to hold it on. The steak was done perfectly to order, the burger was delicious and clearly hand made and the chicken was well sauced, spicy and wonderful. However while the sizes of the dishes were daunting, we soldiered on regardless. We were looked after extremely well and the management were much in evidence front of house, meeting, greeting and talking to customers but not in an intrusive overbearing way. The atmosphere was very friendly and conducive to both meals with loved ones as well as a night out with friends. Desserts, like the starters, had to be shared after the size of the main course and our young waitress duly informed us that the chocolate fudge cake portion was a little on the large size. It wasn't an understatement. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a team making base camp for the assault on its peak! The Chocolate Brownie Sundae had, rather unusually, popcorn as part of the deal which managed to make the brownie taste like peanut butter when eaten in combination. All in all a really pleasant night out in a good atmosphere with good honest simple food cooked well. I can say that I will defiinitely return and am interested to see what their Sunday roasts are like too. If you are in the Bromley Common area this is more than well worth a look

Purley

Top burgers in Purley! I've been here a couple of times now and I've enjoyed my meal all the time!…read moreYou can eat in or take away, the packaging for the takeaway is very nice, the chips come in mini boxes and the burger is in a paper wrap. When you eat in your meal comes in metal dishes with logo under your burger and chips! What I love about this place is the menu is simple, the ingredients are not so simple but mainly you chose what kind of burger ie chicken, beef then you can stop there or add other ingredients and then you can get fries which are not like your normal fries as they are freshly made and taste amazing as there's different toppings, then to top it off you could have a milkshake or an alcoholic milkshake! There are much more items on the menu as they have a brunch menu and dessert! But if your getting a takeaway they are nice enough to let you sit down drink some cold water and enjoy freshly made popcorn! So the beef burger is my favourite as the buns are nice and soft, the burger is a good thick portion which is very juicy - I'm starting to think they must steam the burger as when you bite into it it is just clear meat juice! The sweet potatoe fries are the best and I like to top it all off with a Reece's peanut butter milkshake which is so yummy you can drink the whole thing too quickly but the best bits is the chocolate at the bottom which I grab a spoon and enjoy the scrapings at the bottom of my milkshake! The staff are really friendly and you can place orders at 11.30am every day!

Beckenham, Eden Park

So I'm not a fan of how long it takes to commute to and from work, but I'm enjoying living in…read moreBeckenham. It just seems to have something for everyone. Every time I have been around the High Street, I've seen Kelsey House and kept thinking that I should check it out... and we did! We had time to kill before seeing a movie, so we walked down to Kelsey House. It's easy to find because it is on the corner. I would suggest walking, if you can because the parking on the street is usually occupied, but the nearest car park is about a 5 minute walk up the High Street. They do have outdoor seating and while it is facing a busy High Street, it is better now because the pavement has been extended, putting a bit more space between the tables and traffic. We chose to sit inside because it was quite a warm day. Inside is very hipster... from the decor to the staff, but it is proving very popular! Based on the number of families inside, I would say that this is a child-friendly place. The menu seems to be focused on 'street food'... and brunch. There are a few salads on the menu, but think small plates, burgers, and sandwiches. If you are a fan of gin, they have a nice list of gins, along with a number of craft beers. Because I didn't want to end up asleep during the film, I went with one of their non-alcoholic cocktails... the Virgin French Martini. It was delicious and I didn't miss the alcohol at all! I just wish it came in a bigger glass ;) I struggled because I wanted to try out some of the small plates, but really had my eye on one of the sandwiches. I ended up ordering the Volcano Sandwich while Mr. Snarky went with the Full House Burger. The sandwiches/burgers looked really good, but they were definitely messy. The buns were lovely and managed to stay together despite all the meat juices they were soaking in. I was worried my sandwich would be a bit too spicy, but I found the spice just right... and the meat was so tender! I was surprised that the slaw was actually on the side rather than in the sandwich... which is where I thought it would be. Mr. Snarky said he also enjoyed his burger... except for the burger. To be fair, I am never really sure why Pulled Pork and/or Brisket has to be ruined by using it as a condiment to put on top of a beef burger. And I think that was the issue, the burger didn't really need to be there and it kind of took away from the rest of the sandwich. We really enjoyed the fries... they said skinny fries and I was worried they would be like shoestrings, but they were a decent size and it was like they twice/triple cooked them because they were quite crispy on the outside. We agreed that they were really good! By the end of it, we didn't have room for dessert. Service is friendly, but a bit on the slow side. The prices... I find a bit mixed. On some items I think they are reasonable, but on other items I think they are a bit pricey... like a hot dog for £10.50. I love a good hot dog, but £10.50... and that's the basic hot dog. It is a lovely place and I'm sure we'll be back again.
