We visited the Canary Wharf restaurant when our daughter studied in London and wanted to visit the Mayfair location to enjoy a nice dinner out. The atmosphere was fun and had the dark wood look that we love in a steakhouse. The service was impeccable and our food lived up to our expectations. The tempura shrimp is an absolute must! It's OK. Like most steakhouses in London, it pales in comparison to other great places in the world when it comes to the meat itself; you're going to get a decent but not truly delicious steak here. The same will be true of the sides - whether it is the mash, salad, or prawns (these I've tried), nothing has spectacular flavor or is worth revisting the restaurant for. Fortunately the wine selection is good here but that's largely because no local chefs or staff have been involved with the creation of the wine and it's been brought in from outside the country. Everything else about the experience is very good. The staff are nice, warm, and look after you. The waiters will go great lengths to explain steak to you if you're not already well educated on the subject. The interior is conversative but classy. But given the price, I would skip Goodmans and go straight to Blacklock. You'll have a more delicious meal for half the cost. read more

There were some noisy groups of people sat at tables near us but you cannot fault people for having a good time and being a little loud. So overall a good experience. Amazing Steakhouse! Their choices of cut are second to none. We chose a bone in ribeye from Luing. Some cuts allow you to choose a size as well. With only 2 of us eating the steak, we went with the 600g. It was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. My daughter for the hamburger. I had to try it as well. I would recommend the burger, but get the steak if you're an adult. Side dish - Mushrooms. A bowl of button mushrooms that were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Dined here with my family (a group of 8) on a Thursday evening. We were seated in a somewhat private round table large enough for all 8 of us to dine comfortably. We started with cocktails - dirty martinis, margaritas, and I had the popcorn old fashioned with infused toffee popcorn. WOW was that old fashioned good. I had two and could have had four. Trying to recreate it at home it was so good and memorable. Our server was excellent, knowledgable and made great recommendations throughout the night. We ordered steak tartare and scallops to start. The steak tartare was ok but the scallops were a big hit and were beautifully plated. We also had the Australian Grass Fed Wagyu which was delicious and comes sliced. While we ordered it medium rare, it did come more medium but it was an exquisite piece of steak. We ordered carrots, mushrooms, and potatoes as sides. Unlike the typical corn-fed which is awesome, this was a bit more earthy. They showcase the raw meat and explain it really well. Good ambiance, very good selection of sauces and the service was top notch! If you're in London and are craving a good cut of meat and don't mind shelling out the bucks, this is the joint. read more

Came here for lunch and our party ordered the Goodman burger and the ribeye. The burger was ordered medium rare and they came exactly that way. Juicy but not soggy, flavorful and just right. The size is huge. Imagine trying to swallow a 6 inch thick burger! The ribeye was another level though, perfectly done. Internal was flavorful, juicy, while the crust was perfectly crispy. I'm surprised Goodman doesn't get as much hype as Hawksmoor because it's really fantastic. I booked a couple weeks in advance for dinner on a Friday night. The vibe of the restaurant is perfect: nice but not pretentious. The service was fantastic. We were having trouble seeing the daily specials on the board on the wall so our server literally brought one of the large chalkboards to our table. He even explained the differences between each cut and origin (which was useful!) We ordered a large USDA bone in ribeye to share. I would say it was slightly under cooked for medium rare, but only very very slightly. It was still absolutely delicious! We also ordered the mac and cheese, beef dripping chips, and spinach. All three were incredibly good but I would highly recommend the mac and cheese with truffle and Parmesan. I'm not exaggerating when I say it probably deserves 5 stars on its own. Well then, this was for me at least a real turn up for the books. It's not that I dislike the idea of a steak restaurant.....I mean I LOVE STEAK, but I cook steak really well at home just how I like it. At the end of a day out with some yelpers last weekend we found ourselves here for dinner. Reading the menu you can pay anything from £40 to £200 for a steak..daaaaaamn! Reading a little further they also had other options lamb, burger and a few others. Burger for £16 are you mad? But I thought, wait a minute, if they are making burgers from the off cuts from all that expensive steak this could be one hell of a burger. I noticed on the steak options there was an add on of fois gras butter....a plan was hatched! Could I....could it be done? Could I have the burger with this butter of the Devine smeared on top? Well it turns out I could and I did and it was awesome!!! My dining chums were all equally happy with their choices, the lamb which I tried a bit of was spectacular and the ribeye steak was buttery and delicious! One thing that might have cost them a star was he fact they well lost our order and we waiting over an hour to be served, what saved them was the exceptional service from the waitress and manager who picked up on the error without us saying anything and brought us a bottle of wine on the house. Wow... Where to start with Goodman? Do I start with the great service or do I start with how great the food is? Do I first of all tell you how each of the dishes from the Shrimp tempura, lamb, steak to the mac and cheese tasted like a piece of heaven if heaven was edible? I had been almost "stalking" Goodman on instagram for a while and couldn't wait for the day I would try their food. It was after pay day, luckily, when I went here after a Yelp event with some of my great Yelp friends and I will tell you this, what a great experience! We did a "walk in" and were seated at a table with no hesitation. We started off with a bottle of White Wine (Portuguese) which was finely chilled, glass sweating, my taste buds craving more with each sip. The service was highly professional at Goodman. Both Leanne (manager) and Leonie (waitress) were very attentive and when our food was taking a bit longer than usual to arrive at the table, Leanne offered us a complimentary bottle of wine which we could not refuse! Again, the wine was exquisite. Before ordering our food, Leonie talked us through all the different types of steaks and how each one would taste differently. I had the HERDWICK LAMB, BARNSLEY CHOP, PEA AND MINT PUREE, LAMB JUS which was very tasty. One bite into the lamb and I literally collapsed on the table. It was tender, flavorful and definitely worth the choice. For what it was, £17 seems like a bargain! I had a taste (maybe a fork or 5) of the Mac and Cheese..... OMG! The devil's food but taste of an Angel! I could not have been more pleased with the overall experience at Goodman. I went home and bragged all about it. I will definitely be back. Yeah it's expensive, but damn it's in Mayfair and they know how to treat their customers. We arrived and got a table straight away even on a busy Saturday, which straightaway wins points for me. The menu was decent, not loads of choice for those non steak eaters, but what choices they did have, sounded yummy! Me being me, went for the prawns! Great decision! The prawn tempura was cooked to perfection and complemented with avocado and mango salsa! Oh my I'm still dreaming about how good this was! Mmmm! The steaks were pretty much ordered by the rest of my group and went down great! I have give a special shout out for the awesome Mac and cheese.. Seriously no words, food coma worthy, it was so good! Service wise it was exemplary, couldn't fault it! We'd been waiting a while, but when you're in good company you don't notice so much and the lovely manager, Leanne brought us a complimentary bottle of wine, which I thought was a lovely touch. Our main server, Leonie was a gem too, spending a while going through the menu and rising separate payments from us all! Having tried most of the best steak houses everywhere, had to try Goodman after a friend said it was the best in London. It was good, probably very good, but not the best (I still prefer Hawksmoor). Started with Burrata and sun-dried tomato puree, probably the best burrata I have had. Perfect consistency and flavor and the accompaniments were also excellent. For the main, they have a daily board which lists different steaks by breed/location. The waitress explained the taste differences (some are grainier, some are fattier, etc) but i have to admit I think it may be a little bit of a gimmick. I had a rib wing, which was described as an in-bone ribeye cut near the sirloin section, so a little less fatty than a typical ribeye. It was good, to me tasted more like a regular aged ribeye, but not one of my best steaks ever. Overall a very good meal but my expectations were so high can only give it a 4. read more

The chalkboard meat menu has an incredible selection of high-end beef from around the world (mostly UK and US), both grain and grass-fed options. The atmosphere is dark wood, really noisy, bustling, classic steakhouse located on a very cool cobblestone-lined street. If you're a meat snob, you'd like this place. I ordered a bone-in strip med rare but it came out med well. So, I had to send it back to a very apologetic server. Unfortunately, the re-fire took a while so the rest of the table's food got cold while waiting so the dinner cadence was off. There was no offer to comp even so much as a glass of wine or a dessert, so that was surprising, considering it was a 30 GBP steak. Maybe the Brits roll differently on kitchen mistakes. Goodman's burger is the best thing ever. Delicious heaven on a plate. The best thing is you can get cheese, caramelised onions, bacon, fried egg all for free - free toppings is always music to my ears. I probably wouldn't add all the extras onto the burger though...clashing flavours! I don't think it's fair to compare Hawksmoor v Goodman because both do fabulous steaks. The lunch menu at Goodman is such a good deal - eg: beef carpaccio for £5, and steak/fries for £15-16 (can't remember exactly but it's around that price point). I will say though that the Goodman burger beats Hawksmoor's any day in my books. Its locations in the City/Mayfair draws in predominantely business-suited clientele. When I dined, it was funny to see that 90% of diners in a packed restaurant were suited men - I felt a bit out of place! Nevertheless, service is very attentive, and the food can't be faulted. A wide variety of cuts and there's beef from literally around the world - American and home-grown. The restaurant is a bit cramped (tables are close together) but otherwise no complaints from me. PS: the thick hand cut chips are so addictive, and I'd also personally recommend the mac/cheese with truffle sauce. The wine was excellent def want to match your wine with your food to get that extra wow factor. The service was ok it wasnt bad but at one point no one came to our table to see if we needed anything perhaps more wine or to see how our food was. Well what can I say. This guys are expected in all thing steak. The starters I thought were a little on the small side. I went for the salad and my friend had the crab cake which I have to say was the best crab cake I've ever eaten. I didn't think it could be that good. This is the best Steak restaurant in London. Simple. The restaurant is great, staff are helpful but not pushy, and the menu is perfect. In terms of food, it's always the fillet for us, medium rare. The meat just melts in your mouth and is simply delicious. Goodman's is number 1 for me as not only is its steak amazing. the sides and starters are amazing as well. The Beef carpaccio and Mac n cheese are also my favourite, and combined with a perfect portion of chips this is the perfect meal!
