If you are interested in tasty yet affordable steak, then Flat Iron is the place for you! For only £14, you can get a very solid quality steak. I opted for the slightly more expensive £22 wagyu flat iron steak, which was indeed a bit more tender than the cheaper one but both were cooked perfectly and a decent portion size. These are just about as good as the normal expensive ones you'd get at other steakhouses. The sides are also great and affordable too! The truffled mac and cheese (£5.50) was cooked just the right amount, with a good amount of cheese, and some nice breadcrumbs on top. The crispy bone marrow garlic mash (£4) exceeded my expectations as the mashed potatoes were creamy, flavorful, and moist. The creamed spinach (£3.50) was also decent. Before you even get your food, they start off with free popcorn and then after your meal on your way out, there is free vanilla soft serve ice cream! Talk about good value! The restaurant itself has a good amount of seating, although it can get quite busy (we waited for about 20 min for a late Saturday dinner). There is a lively environment with upbeat music and dimmed lighting. Our waiter was super friendly and the staff are attentive. The service speed is also pretty quick. OMGOSH!! 100% the best steak I've had in a VERY long time! The flavor was exceptional, meat tender and cooked to perfection! The sides delish! Was going to give this place 3 stars as my flat iron steak was actually quite disappointing. I ordered it medium but it definitely came out medium rare. There was lots of stringy inedible gristle in the steak that I had to eat around too. I came in with high hopes and I was somewhat disappointed in my meal. The chips were very good, fresh and hot. The popcorn they give you as an appetizer is fine - different but not life changing. The price is good, at 14 pounds for a steak, but the steak tasted like a cheap steak. Also, maybe I should've ordered it with a sauce, I was hoping the steak wouldn't need sauce. Service was adequate, not super friendly but not unfriendly. The thing that blew me away was the complimentary ice cream. I wish they didn't give this to you on your way out, as it would've been nice to sit down at my table and enjoy the ice cream, but this may have been the most delicious vanilla soft serve that I have ever had and the chocolate shavings sprinkled on top were nice too. They make this vanilla soft serve themselves and I could tell, the vanilla flavor was just so robust. I loved the truffle mac and cheese as a side; the side salad and the chips were also good options. A lite bite of popcorn and a petite ice cream cone are complementary. Both were delicious. The service was ok... at times it was difficult to get an extra water or silverware if the table did not come with any. The restaurant was very busy and lively, so that could be the explanation. Note: they include an additional fee for every steak purchased as a donation (I believe £0.10 or £1.00). One of the best meals I've had in London! When you're seated they give you fresh warm popcorn which is cool and different. I of course, got the flat iron steak which was only £13 and it was delicious, juicy, tasty, and cooked to perfection. The chips and Mac & cheese were good as well. There are steakhouses all around London that have similar steaks for double the price. Atmosphere was nice and cozy. Staff was friendly and when you're done eating they give you free soft serve ice cream on your way out! This restaurant does not disappoint. I've been to the Covent Garden location but wanted to try this one in a sad attempt to avoid the crowd. I was so very wrong at thinking this wouldn't be busy on a Wednesday evening. It was packed with an estimated wait of an hour. Luckily, I was visiting this restaurant on my own, and the hostess took pity on me. I was given a nice seat by the fire after a minimal wait. I ordered a salad, chips, and the Flat Iron steak. I didn't remember that the steak already came with some greens, so I definitely had my fill of vegetables for the day. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. They did also offer sauces for the meat, but in my opinion, it is unnecessary because the meat is so well prepared and seasoned already. While I was there they offered a special bone-in ribeye for a mere 40 GBP, but I decided to pass. I did get a good look at it being prepared for someone else though. Service was excellent despite being busy, and the staff definitely went above and beyond to accommodate me. I'll definitely be back to this chain again. read more

Radical concept: steak for everyone! Perfectly cooked flat iron steak, tender and tasty, with a cup of lightly dressed greens, just 10 GBP! They had the NZ Wagyu special on offer the night we were there, so my husband who was dining with me ordered that, for "only" 18 GBP - nearly double the cost of the house steak, but modest for wagyu. Both steaks were delicious, making it hard to choose a favorite. I was certainly very satisfied with my choice. Sides were delicious: we tried the spinach and the aubergines. Both well-prepared and tasty, with the cheese in the aubergines dish being especially nice. Most sides cost around 3 GBP, with the aubergines being slightly more at 4.50. Nice wine selection and a number of house-crafted cocktails. I enjoyed the wine while my husband tried an Old-Fashioned which he enjoyed very much - especially the small iceberg of ice in the bona fide cut glass tumbler it was served in. Service was excellent. Hip and cozy, well-populated without feeling crowded. The wait was around 30 minutes on a Thursday night, and was well worth it! The wait list is called via text, so you're free to wait in the restaurant's bar area or head to a nearby bar or pub. Loved it, and very foreigner-friendly! Well, Flat Iron certainly has this shit down, eh? Having never been to the other locations I didn't quite know what to expect. I surely did not expect this level of service AND efficiency AND great food all in one! 1. No reservations. At first I can hear you thinking -- groan -- really? In Shoreditch? No reservations? I'll be waiting FOREVER. But here's the thing -- you won't. The tables turn fast due to the speed at which these tasty steaks and sides are whizzed to your table (an abbreviated menu allows that) -- so you'll be eating before you know it. You'll also not be subjected to the utter bullshit Shoreditch host-snobbery when you turn up to a place without a booking and you get the dreaded "DO YOU HAVE A BOOKING?" sneer, as they glare at you stressed out and angry before you've even managed to cross into the dining room. RIght, none of that ok!? None of it. Flat Iron, bravo. 2. Limited menu. Steaks. Sides. Cocktails. Wine. One dessert. The options are limited, but if you want a really great steak for a tenner, you've come to the absolute right f'in place guys. The wine and drinks also lovely. The dessert was a bit of a miss for me (mousse -- but really, it was a cup of whipped cream) -- but forgiven, the rest of the meal was bonkers nice for the speed and the price. Wait, is this fast food and I've been tricked? No. No. It's not, but it's so fast you'll almost feel like it! And in some ways, that's a very good thing. Wait, all ways. 3. Shit runs in order here: VERY orderly. Everyone is with it. People are bouncing around serving popcorn starters and delivering plates and making people happy. This place is run on steak fat - meaning, the best way. Well oiled and something to grab on to. Another round of applause. 4. Location: FINALLY something in this space that doesn't SUCK. The last 2 attempts were abysmal. Flat Iron has the right recipe to spice up this somewhat dead section of Curtain Road. They've outfitted the space well, it's welcoming and nice and not obnoxious. This is a hard thing in Shoreditch sometimes. 5. PRICE. Cheap. We even splurged on the special steaks that were £15 each, indulged in a bottle of wine, ordered every side, additional fizzy non alocholic drinks -- and our bill was STILL under 80 quid. Go try doing that elsewhere near here that's not a food truck. I dare you! Well done. My only regret is now I'm leaving the area and won't get to make Flat Iron a regular haunt with friends and guests. It's a great low key spot that delivers high marks. Ps. The overall dining experience was laughably bad. Theyat a sharing table so as to avoid a long wait for a private table, and I would definitely not recommend this option. One party spilled a full glass of wine on my partner, and (to their credit) the restaurant gave us a major discount on the food to make up for this. Aside from this incident, which I don't think can be considered a true fault of Flat Iron, the other party next to ours was extremely loud and inconsiderate. The main problem is the sharing table format. I would recommend the location in covent garden over this one. read more

Dinner here last night was fantastic! It was a Saturday night so it took about an hour to get a table but they use Walk-in so you can join the queue before arriving. The bartenders/mixologists were fantastic and we tried each one of their signature drinks. All amazing especially the pom rose G&T and the presentation of the old fashioned. Amazing steaks, great sides, and a lovely dessert mousse. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable. They even checked on us and where we were in the queue as they knew we'd been there a while. Tender on the inside and not tough at all. -Fries were also a surprise! Usually I do not have much of an opinion on fries but realized that these were different. Turns out that they are cooked in beef oil! Makes sense as to where the extra kick came from. -Aubergine was basically a mini lasagna. Nothing crazy but a good portion and definitely fills you up!
