Wagyu flat iron steak
Stephen L.

If you are interested in tasty yet affordable steak, then Flat Iron is the place for you! For only £14, you can get a very solid quality steak. I opted for the slightly more expensive £22 wagyu flat iron steak, which was indeed a bit more tender than the cheaper one but both were cooked perfectly and a decent portion size. These are just about as good as the normal expensive ones you'd get at other steakhouses. The sides are also great and affordable too! The truffled mac and cheese (£5.50) was cooked just the right amount, with a good amount of cheese, and some nice breadcrumbs on top. The crispy bone marrow garlic mash (£4) exceeded my expectations as the mashed potatoes were creamy, flavorful, and moist. The creamed spinach (£3.50) was also decent. Before you even get your food, they start off with free popcorn and then after your meal on your way out, there is free vanilla soft serve ice cream! Talk about good value! The restaurant itself has a good amount of seating, although it can get quite busy (we waited for about 20 min for a late Saturday dinner). There is a lively environment with upbeat music and dimmed lighting. Our waiter was super friendly and the staff are attentive. The service speed is also pretty quick. Overall, with tasty affordable steaks, great sides, and free ice cream, Flat Iron is really a clear 5 star place and a must visit for all steak lovers!

OMGOSH!! 100% the best steak I've had in a VERY long time! The flavor was exceptional, meat tender and cooked to perfection! The sides delish! Our server Camelia was helpful with suggestions which we totally took her up on! We shared the T-bone as Dana likes sirloin and I prefer filet. The garlic mash was cooked perfectly with crispy pork belly on top. The play list was off the charts (pun intended) as well. It's cozy, cute with shared tables so you can chat with others. Highly recommend this place if you are in Shoreditch!

Was going to give this place 3 stars as my flat iron steak was actually quite disappointing. I ordered it medium but it definitely came out medium rare. There was lots of stringy inedible gristle in the steak that I had to eat around too. I came in with high hopes and I was somewhat disappointed in my meal. The chips were very good, fresh and hot. The popcorn they give you as an appetizer is fine - different but not life changing. The price is good, at 14 pounds for a steak, but the steak tasted like a cheap steak. Also, maybe I should've ordered it with a sauce, I was hoping the steak wouldn't need sauce. Service was adequate, not super friendly but not unfriendly. The thing that blew me away was the complimentary ice cream. I wish they didn't give this to you on your way out, as it would've been nice to sit down at my table and enjoy the ice cream, but this may have been the most delicious vanilla soft serve that I have ever had and the chocolate shavings sprinkled on top were nice too. They make this vanilla soft serve themselves and I could tell, the vanilla flavor was just so robust. I wish I could come back just to get the ice cream, since my meal was very subpar but wow I would come back just to get that alone.

Dinner Menu

Flatiron is such a good value. Walked in around 9 on a Friday evening and managed to get a table. It was still quite crowded, and we quickly saw why. First, they bring out the free popcorn. No, I wasn't looking for popcorn, but I was thrilled to have it offered. The drinks were great, and the steak... Prepared and presented excellently, and it was a very reasonable price. Happily getting ready to leave, they hand us each a small, half-inch cleaver. It's for our free ice cream. Absolutely perfect.

Flat Iron had a delicious steak for £13. I added the béarnaise sauce for £1 extra and it was well worth it. The steak is a good size but it was best to add a side or two. I loved the truffle mac and cheese as a side; the side salad and the chips were also good options. A lite bite of popcorn and a petite ice cream cone are complementary. Both were delicious. The service was ok... at times it was difficult to get an extra water or silverware if the table did not come with any. The restaurant was very busy and lively, so that could be the explanation. Note: they include an additional fee for every steak purchased as a donation (I believe £0.10 or £1.00). The menu says if you are not interested in donating you have to specify prior to paying so that the charge can be removed.

£13 for a great steak in this economy? Sign me up. Loved the truffle mac & cheese, the creamed spinach, and the fries. Throw in a few beers and you're in for a great dinner. The portion sizes are relatively small, but it definitely fills you up and the steak is cooked exactly to order. Recommend rare or medium rare to keep the tenderness in the steak unless you have dietary concerns. Only disappointment was the cocktails, they are tiny and not worth the price. Free soft serve ice cream at the end was a nice bonus!

Truffled mac and cheese

I absolutely adore Flat Iron! They have great service and incredible food! Their classic flat iron steak, beef dripping chips, and truffled Mac and cheese (I mean LOOK AT THAT CHEESE PULL) are genuinely some of the best food l've ever had. I love the complimentary popcorn you get to start and the soft serve you get on your way out (it's to die for). They give you the cutest little tokens for the soft serve too! Flat iron will definitely be one of the restaurants I miss most when I go back home, it's worth it to come to London for Flat Iron alone.

Fast service and simple menu. Great environment with dim lighting and plenty of foliage. Steak was decent.

Flat iron steak and beef dripping fries with béarnaise

TLDR: Affordable steak (12 GBP at time of writing) and great service. Excellent (beef dripping) fries. This is not a steakhouse with plenty of selections. This is a restaurant for those who want the whole package (steak / burger, fabulous fries, ice cream and great beer) all at a reasonable price (around 15-20 GBP). Service was quick, perhaps in part because the menu has only flat iron steak and burger at the time of writing. The steak itself is decent but not steakhouse quality. Yet with the whole experience taken into account it will be a great meal for everyone.

One of the best meals I've had in London! When you're seated they give you fresh warm popcorn which is cool and different. I of course, got the flat iron steak which was only £13 and it was delicious, juicy, tasty, and cooked to perfection. The chips and Mac & cheese were good as well. There are steakhouses all around London that have similar steaks for double the price. Atmosphere was nice and cozy. Staff was friendly and when you're done eating they give you free soft serve ice cream on your way out! I don't have a negative thing to say which is pretty great because I can always find something negative to comment on lol.

The host was friendly and hospitable and made small talk as she led us to our table upstairs. They had a great, spacious bar downstairs as well that was appealing. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. It has a cozy and modern feel to it with the unique metal chain window 'curtains', pipe style light chandeliers, church pew style or padded booths as well as table and bar seating. They have a huge deer made out of pennies as decor above the entrance as well as a bull decopaged with paper bills upstairs. The upstairs overlooks the lower floor in a balcony style. I appreciated the view to outside with the 20 foot windows below. Perfect for my first people watching experience in London. We were greeted from our server right away and she made wine and cocktail recommendations to start. We had a burger from the main course as well as scallops and the salmon three ways from the starters. The burger was generous, very juicy and flavorful. Would recommend and try this again. The scallops were a decent size and came four to an order. The salmon trio was great. One was like a butter salmon you could put on the bread, the second a small piece of raw salmon and the third more like a salmon spread. Overall, great atmosphere, service and food. I would recommend them!

Mine minus the pudding and dairy free gravy. Food came out pretty fast. Meat was tasty especially the beef. Lamb and pork was a little fatty. I loved and piled the horseradish on the beef. I found the potatoes to be a little chewy on the outside , not the crisp I had expected. Gravy was nice and pourable over everything lol My mock a rita was lovely, just very skimp amount. Our service was good, but the menu is confusing if you're from out of town. Most steaks are served single portion not shareable. My favorites of the night were the pigs head on toast and the usual suspect cocktail. Steaks were flavorful, okay, but highly fatty. The chips were what you would expect. The autumn salad was beet and apple, the broccoli salad had no pecans in it. We shared a few steaks and sides amongst 5 people. Overall, it didn't feel the most welcoming as someone from out of town, food was average, and prices were high for what we received.

However, it was a whopping 93 GBP for 600g, which is meant to share between 2 people, but still not that much (refer to my pic). This is simply just too high of a price for this. Bone marrow and onions (12 GBP) - This was surprisingly good. Although the marrow itself didn't have much of a flavor, it was a nice buttery consistency to spread on the bread. The onions were cooked very well. Sticky Toffee Pudding (9.50 GBP) - This was more of a bread like dessert than a pudding, but was tasty and not overly sweet despite the toffee (which is good). The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The service speed is pretty quick. The interior is decorated in a nice yet not too pretentious steakhouse style. There were still plenty of open tables available on a Sunday night. Overall, while the steak and food are very good, the steak is simply too overpriced to justify me getting it again. I've been looking forward to visiting Duck & Waffle for quite some time. The views are incredible,…read morethe space itself is striking, and on paper it promises that perfect London mix of skyline, late-night energy, and elevated comfort food. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.
