Wow, this is a must-eat-at for an meat lovers! They offer such a varitey of cuts of meats and all the ones we tried were cooked to perfection. And for the quality of food you get, I think this place is reasonably priced. The restaurant is not far from Old Street station and has a pub feel, but slightly more refined. The staff was really friendly, attentive and knowledgeable on the menu. I highly recommend a reservation though as even when we came here on a Monday night, it was busy. I don't think you can go wrong with almost anything on the menu. Everything we had was delicious, and you can tell the chef's really know how and understand how to cook and flavor meat to perfection. The most surprising item though, is the White Chocolate Cheesecake. It is served out of a dish, tiramisu style, and is one of the best desserts I have had in a while. Without a doubt THE best meal I've had in London and honestly England. Come for their Sunday Roast, you will not regret it! Long review ahead but here's our story: when asking locals what British food to eat many mentioned Sunday Roast. Intrigued, we changed our initial Sunday dinner reservations to another day so we could find a spot serving this. I spent lots of time researching and reading and ultimately decided on this Blacklock location, and it was a memorable one! We arrived at our 18:15 (6:15 p.m.) reservations. We had seating requests and were accommodated and sat immediately. Their restaurant is popping on a Sunday! Loud, busy, modern but with a twist of old school decor. There's a bar and lots of seating for small groups and pairs. It was a vibe, but what made our meal was the staff--we spent almost three hours because we were having so much fun (and food). Pepe, one of the managers, went above and beyond for us. He was charming, personable, such a fun guy to chat about any and everything with, and he took such great care of us. He also provided three complimentary dishes, which left us in grateful shock. The bartender even went out of his way to walk to another pub to grab a drink we requested that they didn't have. This is the type of service that makes you feel like family, a celebrity, or just well cared for. So we came on Sunday, and they only serve one thing--Sunday Roast. I mean sides are available too but that's what people come for. Proteins are: beef, lamb, pork, and cauliflower for veg folks. All of us ordered one of each meat protein, all of us agreed this was the best meal, all of us were left in a happy food coma. I had the Day Aged Pork Loin Sunday Roast which comes with two pieces of pork, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal veggies, and loads of gravy. The pork was delicious, fatty, and melted in your mouth. The gravy was addictive and he kept topping us off. The roast on the veggies was superb--well seasoned and tasty and the potatoes were crispy and creamy. It was my first time having Yorkshire pudding which was savory and reminded me of a popover. We received a complimentary Cauliflower and Four Cheeses which was reminiscent of mac and cheese, just with cauliflower. Portions were well-sized, I had to take some to-go but I was so close to trying to eat it all cause it was that good! Of course, we weren't done. The group had Rhubarb and Apple Crumble and a Bowl of Ice Cream for dessert. I was too full, did take a bite of the crumble which wasn't for me--just a bit too sour. He also provided complimentary White Chocolate Cheesecake with Spring Berries which was airy, sweet, and creamy. Seriously, everything here is so good and if you love meat you'll love this place. If you're looking to have a classic Sunday roast with fun vibes, you've got to come to Blacklock! The staff here are incredible and made the meal that much more memorable. We originally had a 5:45 reso, but were so hungry, we tried our luck and showed up 30 minutes early....and still got seated right away despite it being packed! The hosts were really nice about it too. We already knew we wanted to get the Sunday Roast All In which includes: Pork Loin, Beef Rump, Lamb, Yorkshire puddings, duck fat roasted potatoes, carrots, greens, unlimited gravy, and three sauces. Made a res for the Sunday roast in the evening and had my expectations beyond met!! giant Yorkshire puddings, the meat was succulent and tender, amazing variety of veggies but the star of the show was 1000% the gravy. Incredible rich flavor and was almost more like a jus - asked for refills because it was that good. Service was actually top notch as we had one person running late but they allowed us to put in orders ahead of time. This is a little ways outside the tourist district but an easy bus/tube ride. This is hands down the best Sunday roast we've had in London! The food was so excellent! We got the roast to share which had pork, lamb, and beef. The gravy (that they will refill) was addicting! All the meats were perfectly tender! The Yorkshire pudding was excellent & was great for dipping in the gravy! We added the side of cheesy cauliflower, it was excellent but the roast veggies that come with the roast were better. SUNDAY ROAST for the WIN!!! We had researched this, months before our trip. One of our friends coincidentally mentioned that he tried to dine there but hadn't made a reservation and was not able to get in. We booked a 11:45 table about a month and a half before we travelled. We arrived at 11:30 and saw a few other people waiting outside. The restaurant opens at noon. When we stepped in, we were greeted with smiles and taken to a table where the host asked if we had been before. My partner told him that it was our first time, and he gave her a huge hug and told her that everything would be okay. I said hey, where's mine? And he walked over and me a big hug as well. A server came and asked what kind of water we wanted, flat or bubbly. After the water was delivered, I asked for a glass of ice and that was also promptly delivered. We each ordered a mocktail to have something to drink beside water. I got a Wavelength Spritz and she got the Lemonade Cooler. Our server came and introduced himself and asked if we had any questions. The menu is pretty straight forward. We placed our order and soon we had food! She ordered the Beef Roast. I ordered the Lamb Roast. Each comes with two slices of meat, seasonal veg, duck fat roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding and as much gravy as you need. A triple threat! Fantastic food/drinks, service, and ambiance. We started off with some seasonal spritzes which were flavorful and light for summer. We also had the beef dripping chips (yum- must order!!) with gravy to start and since I have a dairy sensitivity the waiter offered-insisted to make another gravy with no butter which was incredibly thoughtful. My boyfriend and I ordered the steak sarnie to share, however they misunderstood and brought two sandwiches (which ended up working out because the sandwich was so good I ate it all !) but took the second off of the bill. Pour some gravy on me!!!! For the Brits Sunday Roast is a traditional meal and some do get emotional. It's just like Sunday dinner but they start earlier in the day and you just gather your friends and family and regale (chat ) while you break bread and feast together. A reservation is best to make sure that you get a table. They do accept walk ins but you are not guaranteed a table. Service was good and they were able to accommodate us. From the outside you would think that seating was very limited due to having to make a reservation, but every nook of this restaurant was filled with tables and chairs. Yes you might have to squeeze in between some chairs to get to your table but this cozy little place felt like home. Since it was a Sunday we had to try the famous Sunday Roast. We each got the beef but you can choose from lamb, pork or beef. I will say if you get the large serving it feeds more than two so we each got our own dish which was still enough for two people in my opinion. The large portion which they called ALL IN comes with a hearty serving of beef, lamb and pork with all the trimmings. The beef roast was cooked to perfection and with their savory Blacklock gravy to top it off was delicious. The roast is served with steamed cabbage, carrots and duck fat roast potatoes & Yorkshire pudding. We asked our kind server what goes with Sunday Roast and they recommended a cider called Kentish Pip Skylark. All through dinner I kept seeing the servers carrying around a casserole dish and was curious what was in there. To my surprise after we feasted we had to get something sweet. We definitely had to get their famous homemade cheesecake and the little one had mango sorbet. When they came to bring us our dessert to my surprise that casserole dish that I saw being carried was their homemade cheesecake. Yea freshly made and chilled until they serve it. They scoop it right out of the casserole dish straight to your plate and then they bring you a side of strawberry sauce to add to it. Which is the reason I'm giving a 3 out of 5. After having hers, I felt like my lamb was a bit bland. Felt a bit short changed on the veggies. Could've used more cabbage and carrots. The Beefy Mary (their version of a Bloody) was good w/ Mezcal, but really lacked the smoky flavor that was coming across in the description. With a name like Beefy Mary, I was also hoping that there would be a slider or a piece of beef to top off the drink. The Coffee/Rum cocktail was equal parts buzzy and boozy - just way too sweet. We started the night with a round of cocktails that were all 10/10. The lemon drop and Rum punch were to die for. Then we opted for the pre chop bites which were interesting but tasty. Open only 9 weeks before 12-17-2018, the brits already know of this place. They open at 12pm, which is when we got there. By 12:15pm most of the restaurant was full of Sunday Roasters. Sunday's are their Sunday Roast day and people come for their "All in", which consists of beef, lamb, and pork all on one dish and decorated with Yorkshire pudding and sauces on the side. We came to see what all the fuss was about. Started off with a Velvet Gimlet drink, which came in a cute little glass and was very syrupy but strong. 5 pounds. Also ordered the "Few of my favorite things" drink, which was interesting because I thought it was sweet and a little bit bitter. I would recommend the Favourite things drink. Order the velvet gimlet if you like sweet drinks. Our food came out and it was huge mound of meat, veggies, potatoes, and yorkshire pudding (a type of bread). You only get the Yorkshire pudding on Sundays and it's made by dropping dough into hot animal fat I hear. The lamb, beef, and pork were all juicy and delicious! I loved the beef especially. The lamb wasn't gamey at all. I enjoyed dipping the lamb into the apple sauce and then the mint sauce and then eating it. The horseradish sauce seemed like a generic horseradish sauce, not really spicy. It was good for a beginner level of spice. The mint sauce was vinegary and not too strong on the mint. The service was great and our waitress was attentive. Our waters were always full and any requests we made were quickly fulfilled. Highly recommend this place for Sunday roast! I was warmly greeted by the host who instantly relieved my anxiety about being a solo diner. The gentleman at the bar, Vlad, and his colleague whose name I can't remember were so welcoming and generous with their time despite hustling to fill drink orders all night long. I had the Beef Sunday Roast (my first roast experience) and it was delicious. Another kind waiter taught me the proper way to eat it (lots of gravy - and make sure to smash the potatoes into it). 10/10 all around.
