    Chops, chips and sweet potatoe
    Joseph S.

On my tecen trip to London, I ate at at Blackloch City. I read many good things and was excited to try it. However,.my wife wasnt so excited at the prospect of eating at this Temple of meat. All the stuff was excellent. Being from America I had a lot of questions and the waiter was able to answer everything and give us some guidance on how to order. We ordered the 'all in'. It comes with a plate piled high with lamb, pork and beef chops over strips of grilled flatbread. It also includes each of their their small bites. We started out with a plate of small bites that consisted of pork with kimchi on a cracker. And egg salad on a cracker and vegetables and kimchi on a cracker. All outstanding. Then the waiter brought us over a complimentary order of pig's head. It is shredded pork cheeks and other pork pots of the head over a large piece of toasted sourdough, which is baked at a bakery across the street from the restaurant. It came with their fabulous gravy which we poured over the top for the instructions from the waiter. No words to describe how amazing this was. The single best thing I ate at the restaurant. Then the main course came which was excellent. The chops are all cooked very nicely and with pink in the center. It comes with two sides, we got chips cooked in beef fat and a sweet potato that is thrown into the coals to roast. We also ordered a side of their amazing gravy. It was all good. Chops were great. The sweet potato and chips were fabulous. Were all of my bites included a piece of the chip, a piece of a chop and a little piece of flat bread. Just perfect. My wife and I had three chops each and there was still three chops left as well as one piece of flatbread. We were too full to have anymore yet somehow we managed to eat dessert. They brought over a large pan of their famous white chocolate cheesecake. The crust is made out of broken up shortbread cookies, still in chunks. Then a super creamy cheesecake top with curls of white chocolate. He brought us over a bowl to put scoops of the cheesecake in, but instead just left the entire pan and said enjoy it, take them whatever's left. My wife had an Old fashioned. She said it was outstanding. I just had water. Just a fabulous meal to kick off our trip. The total was 90 pounds. It includes a 13% service charge, actual bill was 86pounds, but I added 4 more

A colleague suggested that we dine here after we concluded a series of successful meetings in London. I was a bit skeptical because I have not found steakhouses in the UK or Ireland that had tender and flavorful steaks liked I am used to in the US. I ordered a filet which came out perfect. For dessert, I tried their White Chocolate Cheesecake, their take on a nostalgic cuddle in a bowl doled out at the table with a "say when" approach to portion control. Our server claimed that it was better than New York Style Cheesecake. As a New Yorker, I felt that I had to challenge him. The Cheesecake was nothing like New York Style Cheesecake, and it was delicious. The restaurant is in the basement. The brick walls and decor created a great atmosphere to enjoy a good meal. Our server engaged us in some good conversation which enhanced the experience.

"ALL IN" Sunday Roast. 3 types of meat!

Sunday roast is amazing! Definitely make reservations. We got the lamb, beef, pork combo, so delicious! The cheesecake is the best I've had in years, served family style out of a large dish.

    Sunday roast. Amazing gravy!

My family and I had Sunday roast here during our stay in London, and we were very impressed with the food, service, and ambience of the restaurant. All were outstanding, especially the gravy, which was insanely delicious, and our server was very prompt with keeping us well-supplied with it. There are many options for Sunday roast, but we would most definitely recommend the one at Blacklock City.

Heaven for meat lovers. Great chops and steaks, trendy arty starter canapé style bites and super desserts! Buzzy atmosphere with the City returning to work and long lunches. Great service around £40 pp inc all.

Food was okay. I expected more, however they only gave me one sheet of menu, where no steak was included. At the same time I saw other customers were having steak. Service: there was barely any service. I went there alone. Not sure if that's a problem, but they didn't even offer me a table. I was seated on the side bar which was very uncomfortable. Probably won't come here again due to the bad experience.

I went for a Sunday Roast in Blacklock Shoreditch and I loved it. However, I was a bit disappointed by this branch. I had a Rump Fillet which was just OK and some Barbecued Baby Gems which were actually really great. Service was just average and a bit slow.

I have eaten here twice now, on two different trips to London. I was surprised to see so few reviews in Yelp. This place is amazing! My group ordered "All In" and a few pitchers of Old Fashioned. We were not disappointed either time. The meat is cooked quite well and served on top of some fresh bread strips that soak up all the tasty juices from the meat. Even if you are avoiding carbs, you will fight for that bread under the pile of meat! The appetizers and sides were all well prepared, presented, and most importantly quite tasty! The pitcher of Old Fashioned was likewise well prepared, presented, and served. I highly recommend the pitcher if you have two or more people in your party who like Old Fashion cocktails. You will not be disappointed!

And for the quality of food you get, I think this place is reasonably priced. The restaurant is not far from Old Street station and has a pub feel, but slightly more refined. The staff was really friendly, attentive and knowledgeable on the menu. I highly recommend a reservation though as even when we came here on a Monday night, it was busy. I don't think you can go wrong with almost anything on the menu. Everything we had was delicious, and you can tell the chef's really know how and understand how to cook and flavor meat to perfection. The most surprising item though, is the White Chocolate Cheesecake. It is served out of a dish, tiramisu style, and is one of the best desserts I have had in a while. It was not too rich but so flavorful. So when you come here, make sure to save room for dessert!

The host was friendly and hospitable and made small talk as she led us to our table upstairs. They had a great, spacious bar downstairs as well that was appealing. They have a huge deer made out of pennies as decor above the entrance as well as a bull decopaged with paper bills upstairs. The upstairs overlooks the lower floor in a balcony style. I appreciated the view to outside with the 20 foot windows below. Perfect for my first people watching experience in London. We were greeted from our server right away and she made wine and cocktail recommendations to start. We had a burger from the main course as well as scallops and the salmon three ways from the starters. The burger was generous, very juicy and flavorful. Would recommend and try this again. The scallops were a decent size and came four to an order. The salmon trio was great. One was like a butter salmon you could put on the bread, the second a small piece of raw salmon and the third more like a salmon spread. Overall, great atmosphere, service and food. I would recommend them!

However, it was a whopping 93 GBP for 600g, which is meant to share between 2 people, but still not that much (refer to my pic). This is simply just too high of a price for this. Bone marrow and onions (12 GBP) - This was surprisingly good. Although the marrow itself didn't have much of a flavor, it was a nice buttery consistency to spread on the bread. The onions were cooked very well. Sticky Toffee Pudding (9.50 GBP) - This was more of a bread like dessert than a pudding, but was tasty and not overly sweet despite the toffee (which is good). The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The service speed is pretty quick. The interior is decorated in a nice yet not too pretentious steakhouse style. There were still plenty of open tables available on a Sunday night. Overall, while the steak and food are very good, the steak is simply too overpriced to justify me getting it again. I've been looking forward to visiting Duck & Waffle for quite some time. The views are incredible,…read morethe space itself is striking, and on paper it promises that perfect London mix of skyline, late-night energy, and elevated comfort food. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.
