There are not many auto repair shops that can be trusted in Tempe anymore. I have used Brake Masters on Mill Ave. at Southern several times in the past 8 years for oil changes. Regarding repairs and maintenance I have preferred to use the dealer I bought my S-10 from, until recently. They want me to sell it back to them or gather the parts myself due to the age of the vehicle. I shopped around and found the best prices and time frame at Brake Masters. They did a great job, faster than expected (2 days when others were saying a week) and was still very close to the estimated cost. I've read other reviews that talked about overpricing or up-selling, it's easy to look at your own vehicle to be sure the repair/replacement is needed ( I always do) and they will show you while it's on the rack! Over all they have bundles/package deals, coupons and specials that you can take advantage of. If in doubt about anything, speak with the manager, he is reasonable and easy to talk with. I would highly recommend them over a lot of places in Tempe that are openly dishonest! read more

Went for an oil change and an inspection bc my brakes were squeaky, got a laundry list of repairs that totaled to over a grand. Took it to the locally owned shop up in Scottsdale, nothing was wrong w it except it needed new wipers and was told to come back in 5k miles for the brakes, nothing about any of the other stuff. Make sure you get a second opinion if you're gonna go here, seems like they're trying to run up the bill because i'm not a car expert. read more

Front-end alignment not done properly; steering wheel turned to the right. Noticed when I was on the freeway heading home to San Diego. Secondly, They did not properly connect my e-brake after turning the rotors. Of course, I discover this when I arrived home in San Diego, as I park on a inclIne. Naturally, there are no Brake Masters here locally to bring my truck to. I am stuck paying extra $$ for their incompetence and dangerous mechanical practices. Buyer beware! read more

Had a great experience with the owner Paul. He was super informative, and didn't even charge me for an inspection. They stuffed the pads, checked alignment, and cleaned everything up for me totally free! Super satisfied and glad I went to them. read more

Honest and quick service. Made an appointment online and was in and out with new break pads, rotors resurfaced, & an oil change in under two hours. The waiting area is clean and the staff is pleasant to talk to. read more

I've taken my vehicle here for the last 2 years. These guys have always been honest and up front with me. After a recent experience with some new staff members, I was pretty upset and didn't think I'd be coming back. The manager, James, has more than made up for that. They're still working on my AC issue but I trust my car is in good hands. Thanks for your help, guys! read more

Horrible service. Do not go to this place. I came here and receive a simple service, but left with a rattling noise in the engine. Nobody is taking responsibility and BrakeMasters is charging me an additional $600 for the problem they caused. read more

This should be your mechanic shop! Josh is the best there is when it comes to getting work done on my car, he tells me the facts and doesn't try to fix what's not broken! The wait time is not excessive at all and the quality cant be beat! read more

First time at this Brake Master's today and Josh was a pleasure to work with. He was patient and explained everything that needed done to my car. It is always nice going somewhere that has great customer service and Josh definitely made my expensive day quite bearable. Thank you Josh and keep up the good work!!! I will definitely be back and will recommend this location to all my friends. read more

After attempting to replace my drum brakes and brake cylinders, I surrendered and brought my new hardware to brake masters. They fixed my lines and tweaked my brakes great. They even lubed up my squeaky door without me asking. Good experience. Just went here again for some major maintenance on my truck to prepare for my big trip to Nebraska. Night and day difference on my trucks performance. I do most the work myself on my truck and am always skeptical about garages. These guys do people right! They went through my truck, called me to tell me what they found, then we discussed about what I would do and they would do. Never tried to up sell me. Fixed what I asked and even discovered something major I had missed. These guys do a great job. Have gone here twice now and am very satisfied. read more

Hide your mothers, daughters, sisters and anyone who is not mechanically inclined. This place told my daughter that she needed $400 worth of repairs. So sad that we still have shady businesses out there to pray on the weak. My daughter went in for an alignment, instead, left baffled and confused. She was told that her right control arm bushing was torn and they couldn't do the alignment until this part was repaired. Nothing was broke, nothing was torn and nothing needed to be repaired, she just needed an alignment. This place had an opportunity to be honest and align her car. They would have gained a loyalty customer, but instead they got greedy. She will never come back to this location or any Break Master location. She's no idiot and got the vibe something wasn't right. This guy was telling customers that they were going to get a great deal. She couldn't help to think that this "great deal" could have been at her expense. Please educate yourself and ask questions, ask to see the "broken parts," take pictures, and do an internet search. Don't get ripped off. It didn't happen to my daughter thank God. read more

Visiting the area, I dropped my car in the after-hours lot after hearing a repetitive knocking sound. Received a call around 8:30am saying my car was fixed, reason being a bolt had dislodged itself and was missing from my brakes system. They found a spare bolt and installed free of charge! read more

After being told by my dealership that my car was in immediate need of new brake pads, I took my car over to Brake Masters and worked with Steve. I was on lunch, so I had a coworker drop me off - and asked him to call me and let me know what the deal was with them. About 20 minutes later I get a call... my brakes are absolutely fine, and they were not going to do any work. It's clear that I was lied to by my dealership, and that Brake Masters was completely honest with me. It would have been easy for them to not tell me and take my money - but that one simple phone call has earned them my business... when I actually need work done! read more

It is so nice having auto repair work done by a place that really warranty's their work! Thank you Josh, you made my day!

These people are great! I was traveling across country from Dallas to LA when my transmission started to slip (low fluid due to heat). I brought my Honda Odyssey van here due to a recommendation from O'Reilly Auto Parts store down the street. The guy at O'Reilly was right...the people at this Brake Masters are kind, professional, and honest. They filled my van up in less than an hour and I was back on the road with my family. Thank you for blessing me and my family!! read more

I always come to this place they are very nice guys they have Great Service, work fast and have Good prices, Highly recommend. :)

I've taken my car here twice and they have been great each time. I will continue to bring it back. They are honest and get the job done right. read more

I will definitely be returning! They were super professional and friendly, and the waiting area was super clean. I was so scared I would have to pay a fortune to get my brakes fixed but it was fast and affordable. I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

This place is awsome! They were checking the codes for a check engine light on my mother's handicap van, and rechecking the air conditioning. They didn't want to work on the transmission because it has parts added for the handicap system. They found an issue with the air and fixed it under warranty. I was referred to a transmission specialist for that work. My only coat for the day was the $5 I spent on lunch. read more

I just took my SUV in to Brake Masters to get my brakes inspected and after test driving it they said that I still have a lot of life left in my brakes and as of now they wouldn't recommend doing anything. Josh, was extremely easy to speak with and most importantly was upfront and honest about EVERYTHING. They changed out my oil and now my SUV is back on the road. I will absolutely be coming here next time I need a hand. Thanks again Josh! read more

These guys always fix anything I've got wrong quickly and they are friendly as well. Gave me a Veterans Day discount on a recent issue.

Great customer service, were able to resolve a critical issue on a Saturday when they were about to close up the shop. Helped save me a lot of time and money. Will definitely come back again. read more

I've seen reviews for this place in websites other than Yelp, and they were right. I have taken my very old but reliable Toyota Corolla, and they have been thorough, efficient, and very honest about the repairs it needs. This is a place where you definitely don't get ripped off. I took my car for new wheels' alignment, and it turned out it needed new struts. Ouch. But having been in other places where i get the awful news that my old toyota needs a new clutch, or a new radiator, or terribly expensive things, I was not shocked. But this was the first shop where I was actually shown why I needed them, taken to see the actual parts, and explained what would be done. They make sure you understand how and why repairs will be done, instead of just showing you a quote for $500 telling you it's important. I also went to get my AC checked and they were very thorough explaining why and what I needed the repairs I needed. I'm writing this review because I've spent so much time online trying to inform myself what places rip you off and what places have honest and efficient staff. now that i've found one, i wanted to spread the word. read more

Came here for new brake pads on my front two wheels. After having new brake pads installed I left happy. However, down the road a few blocks I couldn't stop! Come to find out there was air in the system. The place I took it to also informed me that my back brakes were crumbling. Brake masters never even checked! Usually the guys check everything out and tell you what's going bad etc. not this place...they will let you drive off and possibly kill yourself in an accident. Do not go here and do not send your loved ones here. They just may die on the way out... Seriously I'm not trying to be dramatic, that incident was scary! read more

This is the best place to take your car whether you just need a quick oil change or if something bigger is going on. Josh is the reason I keep going back here with my Jeep. He's honest, always tries to help me out as best he can and doesn't nickel and dime you. I feel like some car places try to take advantage of women and always try to recommend things that aren't necessary just to get more money out of you. I've never felt this way at Brake Masters. Great place and people! read more

Took it to get it aligned and they said that upon inspection I needed to replace the front arms and it would be $615 and that just aligning it would be a waste of their time. read more

Josh was very helpful and honest about my brakes. He looked for the best discounts and was able to get my car fixed in a reasonable time. Comfortable waiting area. Watched Josh clean the already clean bathroom. Tile walls and all. Attention to detail and customer service was very good. read more

I got new tires for my car at another place. They said I needed an alignment but could not do it because something was bent. They could not tell me what was bent which was suspicious to me. I brought my car to Brake Masters since this is where I get my oil changed. They aligned my car with no additional repairs. I appreciate having honest people working on my car. Josh was great. read more

I've been taking my car here for a few years now. They're honest and provide good service. The best part is that they only give out as many appointments as they can handle and whether you go with an appointment or do a walk-in, in my experience, they always finish well before the estimated time. Decent waiting area with free wi-fi. read more

I had a small problem to fix (skid plates needed to be put back in) and I called to see if they could fix it and Josh just had me drive there and drop my car off for a couple of hours! They called and said they did a inspection of the car as well and found a couple other things wrong and fixed them as well! Picked my car up the next day and paid very little out of pocket, will be coming back for all my little car needs! read more

The customer service is fantastic. They don't just try and stack charges on you, they don't work on commissions! They give you an honest, Mechanic minded opinion of what your vehicle NEEDS. Highly recommend! read more

Very disappointed in this store. I went in one morning to get their oil changing special. During the process of my oil being changed, the mechanic and store clerk told me that my brakes were scratching really bad. I was shocked because my breaks did not indicate they were going out or even a sign of screeching/scratching. I told him I didn't have time or money to get them replaced so I will have to come back in a week. I was going to see if a family friend could fix them since he was a mechanic. When I drove out all of a sudden I heard this horrible screeching sound and you can hear the scratching. I didn't understand it so I had our friend look at them. He told me that they pulled out a pin so the car would make the scratch noise and I didn't need the brakes fixed. If anything I could maybe replace the pads. I was pissed off that BrakeMasters would do that. He said that's how they get you. So shame on brakemasters for not only trying to scam me out of paying for their services but for tampering with my brakes. NEVER will I go to brakemasters! Beware of this store! read more

Thsi store has a low rating for good reason. Brake "Masters" fixed my brakes and guaranteed that a lifetime warranty. Sounds great, except when my brakes went out and I had to rely on my emergency brake to stop. When they checked my car, they told me nothing was wrong with it. I stopped back again and they told me the same thing. I took it to another mechanic and he found the problem right away - worn out brake pads. I paid mechanic $100 to fix brakes and showed Brake "Masters" the worn out brake in hopes of a refund. Mike refused and started yelling at me and his partner stated that the brake wore out after I left their store, which was about a week ago. I called their headquarter and spoke to Wi (pronounced We). He apologized but only agreed to pay me $50 in store credit. I told his offer and later regretted it because they are supposed to guarantee their brakes for life. Bottomline: this incident happened in August 2010. If Mike or a guy who looks like Steve from the Jerry Springer Show still works there, take your business elsewhere. read more

So, I've been taking my trucks here for years, until recently, they seem to be annoyed when I decline the work they recommend that needs to be done because it's stuff I can do my self. Not cool. Today, I brought in my truck for an alignment and asked they inspect the brakes, which they did, then quoted me 400+. No thanks. I can do that for half the price you quoted. Y'all have a good day, and thanks for the coffee. read more

Wow where do I start, ok maybe with customer service! I contacted Brake Masters a couple of days and a couple of times before I actually went and each time the representative who answered the phone was really nice and very informed on their services. Josh was my first point of contact the first time I went into store #155 and I tell you this guy created an environment that I would pay millions of dollars if I had to but thank goodness it wasn't a million dollars worth of repairs, hahaha. Not being aware of all the World Wide Web discounts, he allowed me to search different discounts for my services and was honest on services that were not needed at the time. The service team actually did a thorough inspection of my car in order to inform me of what's needed and get this, it was free. The Volkswagen dealership was going to charge me $80 for a thorough inspection. I was hesitant because it was not the actual dealership. Some people think that you have to go to dealership to get your car serviced and actually after doing some research on dealerships vs mechanic's, people tend to lean more towards mechanic locations and I am glad I did. Also, evidently they report to Carfax or whatever system Carfax takes information from because my service history is updated, which is a good thing if I decide to sell my car. I will return to get recommended services done as well. read more

Daniel is the beat rep for the company, we stopped in one day and he explained how things worked and made us an appt. for the next day. He calmed me when parts were in and I drive 20 minutes for work. Worth it all... he is great and the workers are happy and very nice. It took awhile but again it was worth it... I have to say again that Daniel is all about making people happy, keeping them informed and working with them. Great tempo in this place! Looking forward to taking out other car there! read more

Brake Masters always treats me right, doesn't try to up-sell, and definitely doesn't try to tack on any extra charges. They managed to diagnose an issue that 3 previous shops couldn't. read more

This place is amazing! Not one time did they ever try to overcharge me for anything. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. I have other work to be done and I will go back to them! I have had all of my vehicles fluids changed and minor repairs done here since 2001. I have always had positive experiences and honest service.
