I came in for my appointment and Michael immediately let me know that it was going to be a long wait. He offered to keep my car overnight and get my oil change done first thing in the morning or to come back on Saturday for a discount. I opted to come in the next day, as the entire crew that was here, including the manager, Michael, were all running around working on cars and trying to get their customers taken care of. Came back on Saturday and they were able to get me in right away, even though I wasn't able to make it back in until an hour before closing time. They took care of my oil change and got me back on the road in no time. Michael and the crew that he leads never disappoints and always gives excellent customer service. My experience left me feeling disappointed and never will use. This place again . I had coupon for an oil change for high mile cars. My car is a 2015 140000 mile Ford Taurus. $39.95. Includes lube , rotate tires and fluids under the hood. The advisor 5093 Michael G said for my car its 10.00 dollars more. When the car was ready for pick up they charged me $79.24. Explanation is they you can only use Synthetic oil. That's a lie. Why 10.00 more originally and why was this done without notifying me with original quote? Stay away as well: Brakes; I had my brakes done but was not offered the warrantee. In 11 months, my brakes needed to be serviced because I had to push on the brake pedal about 2 inches before my brake pads touched the rotors. The first corrective action was "bleeding of the brakes". Andrew, a good guy, asked the manager to do the "brake bleed" for free, and the manager said NO. I spend $400 for the brakes, and also about $3,100 for other services. This is not how you treat "returning" customers. read more

Horrible customer service. The guy from the East Coast at the front is very condescending and disrespectful. When someone is paying for a service you should be polite. I wish I would have gotten his name to file a complaint. Also they are over priced for their services and I would not recommend them. If you get an estimate from these guys call around to a few other shops and in certain all the other shops will give you better quote for the repair or service. Stay away! I wish I could put less than one star. The quality of the brake work is extremely poor--and this place is called Brake Masters! I had my brake pads replaced earlier this year, and I have never been so dissatisfied with brakes in my life. The brakes grind at low speeds, and when slowing down from regular driving speeds, I hear a very unpleasant rubbing noise. I took my car in this past Saturday to have Brake Masters fix the brake noise, and of course they told me that everything looked excellent--just some brake dust. I gave up and swore never to visit a Brake Masters shop again. On my way home, the TPMS light came on, and when I looked at the tire, it was almost completely flat. I put more air in the tire and drove down to my tire shop, where I left the car so it would be first in line after the weekend. When I went in on Monday morning, the tire shop showed me that the wheel lug bolt had been damaged, and they were unable to get the wheel off. I had to go to another auto shop, somewhere very close because the tire was losing air. This auto shop cut off the bolt and replaced the hub, which was not cheap. I was then able to get the tire replaced. I know Brake Masters caused all this because they had the wheels off to inspect the brakes. It would have been so much better if I had just written off these brakes as a learning lesson, and then taken the car somewhere reputable to have the brake work redone. At the end of this expensive experience, my brakes are still unpleasant, while my wheel and tire are simply back to the way they were before taking in the car for the evaluation of the brakes. If I could leave a ZERO star rating for this location I most DEFINTELY would! I scheduled an alignment appointment for my mom to take her truck there. They did the alignment and that wasn't the issue, then they told her that the inner rod needed to be replaced for $1700 where only $40 of that was for the part itself. That's fine too, BUT when she took it to another mechanic for a second opinion she was informed that Brake Masters shouldn't have done the alignment, BECAUSE now that the inner rod is fixed, she has to get ANOTHER alignment done...which means she PAID Brake Masters for an alignment that would've had to get done again any ways. It would've been nice if they were honest and told her that BEFORE they did the alignment to save her MONEY and TIME that she lost out on. I've never been one to write reviews like this, but this was UNCALLED for and UNPROFESSIONAL. read more

Would not recommend this place for brakes. Paid $800 at the end of January for new breaks and an oil change & have had more issues with my cars brakes in the last 8 months than I've had in 4 years. I was told the brakes I got has a warranty so after about 1000 miles when they started squealing worse than before they were replaced, I took my car back and they resurfaced the rotors saying everything was fine. 500 miles later the same thing happened. I took my car back for an oil change before leaving on a cross country road trip where I explained the ongoing issues to be told the brakes were defective and to bring my car back after my trip for the issue to be resolved. Not only did they not fix the issue, but they messed up the oil change resulting in an oil leak and my check engine light to come on as I was traveling across the country. As soon as I got back, I took my car in for them to factory reset the sensor and tell me there wasn't a warranty on my brakes and that they were cheap brakes and the sound is just annoying & they didn't do anything about it. I've gotten my brakes replaces twice here in the last 2 years due to premature squealing & I regret every dollar spent at this location. read more

I was in and out fairly quickly as the coupon included oil, filter, and a tire rotation and my tires needed that as well. These guys tightened the bolt to my oil pan and broke it in half. Then blamed it on the last guys to change the oil, saying it was tightened too much. Well, upon extracting it at another shop (surprise surprise BM guys couldn't help me do this) it was obvious the bolt was torqued the wrong way. I also learned that this same thing has happened to many others and believe they may be targeting people based on which shop did their last oil change. Be careful with this place. I've been to this Brake Masters a total of 6 times. Usually for an oil change but once for brakes. The first major issue I ran into were with the quality of the brake pads, after replacement they constantly squeeked for weeks. I had to come back and they replaced them again. Considering the slow speed of service on both occasions this was very inconvenient. The second issue I ran into was with scheduling and wait times in general. After scheduling online and receiving a confirmation email like normal I was turned away because they couldn't find me in the system, not great but I came back and after everything was done I presented my coupon like normal, I only come to brake masters because of the $59 deal for a full synthetic oil change. This time, the manager refused to take it saying he already put the service in the system and had to charge full price. I hadn't already paid or anything, just outright said no. I'm writing this following the third major issue. I came in for my usual oil change, I drive nearly 40,000 miles a year so this is a frequent occurrence. I was told that the noise coming from my power steering was due to low fluid as a result of a misplaced cap. The ONLY people to have touched this cap were Brake Masters employees at my last oil change. The cap was $40 to replace and the low fluid levels caused further damage to my vehicle that now needs to be repaired. Imagine my frustration at going in for an oil change and having the oil change service cause hundreds of dollars in damages to my work vehicle. The only thing consistent with brake masters is their absolute incompetence and low service quality. Not to mention the 2.5 hour wait for an oil change. read more

Very unhappy. I brought my car in on Sept 21 to have the break pads replaced and the rotors shaved down. I paid $171.51. A few weeks later, my front brake is squeaking and there is still a strong shimmy in the steering wheel. I bring it back in and they tell me that they never replaced the front brake pads OR did anything with the rotors. Of course now the front rotors can't be fixed, they can only be replaced and they want $350 for it. Ridiculous. They never even looked at the front brakes the first time. I have a baby and drive every day with her. I shouldn't have to wonder or worry about my brakes, especially after taking it to the "masters". I would avoid at all costs. Spend the money to take your car to a dealership. And an apology is not "I'm sorry you feel that way". Get it together Brake Masters. read more

After having my car diagnosed wrongly, saying it needed a water pump. When only the heater hoses needed to be replaced. I was far from home. I showed the work to 2more mechanics after (because my check engine light was now on. Not on before hand. ) They took one look at the water pump and remarked that it is not new. Even though I was charged for a water pump kit that cost 4x The online price. They charged $1200 for labor! While they made many more things need repair. They kept my car for 4 days unnecessarily. Costing me close to $100 on uber rides to Brake Masters on Mill and Southern in Tempe. I had no air conditioning after leaving there. My other mechanic friend, saw the wires from the o2 sensor resting on the manifold, which burned through the wire casings and I had to replace the 02 sensor. Plus the freon was let out, which worked fine before I went there. So I had to pay someone else to recharge my a/c. My check engine light just turned on again! Now its spark plug issues! No problem before!! I took it back once and found my new timing belt was being frayed due to their shoddy work, and had to be replaced. They have a 90 day guarantee on service, but I dont want them to touch my car again. I felt like I would rather poke forks in my ears rather than listen to Craig's manipulative excuses any more. They put off working on my car until the end of the day every day!! While I had no car and had to pay my whole social security check this month while they knew they were lying, cheating and robbing me. My error was to not ask for the water pump that they lied and said they replaced. So I cannot prove what I believe to be true. They are untrustworthy. I recommend run! To get it an and looked at and diagnosed the problem by early Wednesday morning was fantastic, the repair was long and costly not surprised, in a 2005 car. However, such fantastic customer service to get it finished early Friday morning, after a Holiday, is Greatly APPRECIATED. The management and tech get HUGE THUMBS UP from me. I have in the past had repair work here, and have NEVER received poor service or workman ship, always fair and honest, they tell you what needs to be done and why. I came in for a simple oil change and tire rotation ($25 with coupon) yet i get a call midway through the routine check saying I need to replace my shock absorbers bringing my total to over $660. I called around and there are places with higher reviews charging half the price. This location has a lot of information but is charging wayyy too much. Even as I was checking out they tried charging me for a service that I had specified I didn't want. Check what they are charging you for. Love the $25 coupon they have for the oil change and checkup but if they say your car needs anything else just take that information and go to a local shop that'll do just as good work for half the price! read more

Not a big fan of yelp but I have to post this because Brake Masters is the Best! I have gone 3 times over the last 6 months as I have not had my brakes changed since I purchased my car in 2018. I just hit 60,000 miles and I still am at 6 on the front and 8 on the back. If these guys were takers that would have swapped them out when I was at 48,000. Nope each time they said I still had plenty of pad. The gentleman that helped me was knowledgeable and friendly. First I went in to get an oil change. They applied a coupon which saved me 20.00 and they rotated my tires. The entire service took about 30 mins but no more then 45mins. Then mentioned that I needed an alignment (which I already knew I needed) and was able to do it the next day and that took 30 mins or less also both services were made by appointment and the alignment was actually inexpensive. Is there a Rating system for Rip off and liars? They would be 5 Stars BAD! I took my truck into Brake Masters because the brakes were feeling a little off. I was thinking minor work nothing major. And my AC was being weird too. I get a call saying the good news is the AC will be $190 it has a burnt out resister and needs to be replaced. WHAT the good news is $190? Then on to the bad news, basically my entire sorry ENTIRE break system needs replacing, Master Cylinder, Front Brakes, Back, or and something was boiling and needs flushing. I'm sure there was more but I was in complete shock sorry SHOCK. So I pick up my truck that I was convinced would not even make it home, and drove it to another Shop. Scare tactics is want Brake Masters is about. I am not sure if it is because I am a woman or because I had the unfortunate choice of going to Brake Masters, but never again. DON'T FALL FOR THEIR SCAMS AND TAKE YOUR CAR TO A REAL MECHANIC. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I came in yesterday for a free AC check that I was told would take about 45 minutes. 2 hours later, they "diagnosed" a broken fan (didn't specify which fan of the two) and quoted me at over $500 to fix my AC. Not only did Brake Masters give me an incorrect diagnosis, they also inflated the price to repair this "issue" multiple times over what it should cost if that WERE the issue. I brought my car to a different mechanic (Bullitt Automotive on Apache/McClintock- truly genuine mechanics!!) and they were able to nail my ACTUAL issue in 30 minutes, and turns out the plug for my fan motor was just loose. The staff at Brake Master's deliberately lied to me, told me parts were broken that were not, and tried to get me to pay way more than I should have. Luckily, I was smart enough to give them a fat HELL NO and see a REAL mechanic that fixed the issue FOR FREE. I cannot even wrap my mind around the fact that these people were trying to rip me off of $500 worth of "work" while someone else did it for free. There are not many auto repair shops that can be trusted in Tempe anymore. I have used Brake Masters on Mill Ave. at Southern several times in the past 8 years for oil changes. Regarding repairs and maintenance I have preferred to use the dealer I bought my S-10 from, until recently. They want me to sell it back to them or gather the parts myself due to the age of the vehicle. I shopped around and found the best prices and time frame at Brake Masters. They did a great job, faster than expected (2 days when others were saying a week) and was still very close to the estimated cost. I've read other reviews that talked about overpricing or up-selling, it's easy to look at your own vehicle to be sure the repair/replacement is needed ( I always do) and they will show you while it's on the rack! Over all they have bundles/package deals, coupons and specials that you can take advantage of. If in doubt about anything, speak with the manager, he is reasonable and easy to talk with. I would highly recommend them over a lot of places in Tempe that are openly dishonest! read more

My god, avoid this place if you care about your vehicle. I had been taking my cars here for awhile since I was right down the street, but after my last experience I'll never come back! I had them replace the radiator for my 2001 Acura Integra. A few weeks later the radiator starts to leak! Apparently they installed it half assed, so I took it back and they fixed it. Fine, but it should have never happened! Two months later, and the radiator starts leaking again, this time from the bolts. I can't take it anymore, and I bring my Acura to Hon-Amotive. They replace my shoddily installed radiator with a Honda factory radiator, and I haven't had a problem since. Don't try to save money at the risk of damaging your vehicle. These chain mechanics can and WILL rip you off and do bad work. read more

Took it to the locally owned shop up in Scottsdale, nothing was wrong w it except it needed new wipers and was told to come back in 5k miles for the brakes, nothing about any of the other stuff.
