This is for the location right of south I-35 by the Porsche dealership. Took my Jag in to check the alignment. Miguel helped explain everything to me on what was needed and gave me some different options to think over. I was trying to pinpoint why I was chewing through my front tires and he did a free alignment check to see what the calibration was at, and sure enough the alignment was off. We came up with a game plan to get new tires mounted and balanced first then to bring it in for their alignment service...if the vibrations were still happening he pointed out some worn weak points in my suspension that could possibly be contributing to the vibrations in the front axle and certain speeds. Miguel was a true professional and carried himself with integrity, honesty, and transparency which is all you can ask for from any mechanic. Give that guy a promotion and a raise! They are lucky to have him as an employee, I'll be sure to recommend all my car buddies for basic alignment/suspension work to this specific shop. They lost my lug lock key. Put the wrong one in the car and I didn't know it until I got a flat months later and couldn't take the tire off. Also they did my brakes. The back right passenger tire, only 3 of the 4 brake pad nuts were tightened. When I finally took the wheel off after breaking the lock I saw one not tightened, hand tightened only. There aren't many good reviews online while all of you are trying to decide if you should come to Brake Check. I would 100% highly recommend them and their services! Their prices were very reasonable, and I could head back to the shop with a supervised technician so that they could explain all the details of my car, how the safety systems connected to the brakes work, and how it operates, which was impossible at Midas. Alan gave me sufficient information and gave me a rough draft of prices of what services they would charge and if I wanted to decide to complete the work. I take all four of the vehicles to Brake Check. Our female supervisor brought in the vehicle stating "this vehicle needs brakes all around!" To which the attendant said "sure". My husband had to remind him that he needed to inspect the vehicle, ie test drive the car, check the fluids, check how all the brakes work... The attendant said oh no it does not need brakes all around we just need to do something to the back-$30 later and a resurfacing of the back rotors. (I thought this was not done any longer?) No problem! Even new brakes surrounding the vehicle would be fine. Little did we know he did not inspect the car like they said they would this includes driving the vehicle and stopping it! In fact from the vehicle was involved in a an accident which totaled the car because the brakes failed! This was 12 days after we had the vehicle serviced at brake check. The vehicle had no brake fluid left after the accident... As a mechanics granddaughter I know you can tell if a car is leaking brake fluid, and you can tell if a component is beginning to fail by how it stops. The company has since said this is not their fault so alas I will tell everyone not to return to this location or any brake check for that matter. They aren't a safe company to work with! This was a case of pure sexism because the attendant ignored our female supervisor entirely! read more

As always, Juan was very helpful and provided a positive experience. I went to get my oil changed and my alignment taken care of. He saw me cringe at the bill since I didn't expect to pay for additional services at the time and I thought I was on my free oil change. I got the additional services since I make sure I invest in my car with full commitment. For my review, it pertains to their alignment as that's the service I visited to have addressed. To that service line, I had an excellent experience! I worked with Ryan and his coworker. I wasn't able to get there until within their last hour of operation. He was super helpful and didn't hesitate for a second to accept my vehicle for alignment. He drove it straight on the rack, and was even open to explaining the service to me and what the process looks like. That was a huge plus for me, as I nerd out on this type of stuff. Ha! Oddly enough, I have never witnessed an alignment before. Straightforward process, and completed super quick! (Albeit my vehicle was an easier job, with only one corner in need of adjustment). Now my struts are leaking and I need new rotors. Why was that not mentioned the first time? I was told my rotors were fine for a few thousand more miles. They want $1000 for 2 struts. He gave us a whole list of items that he suggested to be done to the car and he was just trying to rack up the cost and have us pay for things the car didn't need. He still owes us $220 back for items he didn't even do. It's been a month and we still have not received a refund. They will take advantage of you. I had an awesome, easy experience over the weekend getting my brakes fixed. My brakes had almost gone completely out, to the point where I needed to get my rotors and calipers replaced, and I had stalled in getting them fixed. My mother was in my home town about 2 hours away and called when your location opened and she played the middle man between me and the manager James & the mechanic Sam (he said "Mexican" Sam, not sure if there are 2 Sam's) to see if they could schedule me in to get them fixed. My mother is a very thorough woman, and was stressing about not being in town with me to get my car looked at and being here with me. Sam handled the situation so well and kept my mother calm over the phone, explained everything to her as many times as she needed, made her an appointment and also answered all her questions, and told her he would call her to keep her in the loop, (which was nice for me, haha) leaving her more at ease then she usually would be in a situation like this. Once I arrived there, Sam and James introduced themselves and got my car right in to be looked at. What I loved about this service was that the men (including the few mechanics also working) were SO nice and relaxed, Sam was immediately engaging, talkative, and friendly to me upon arrival, he came off with a fun personality; - James took me out to my car and allowed me to record his explanation of what needed to be done to my car to send to my mom, and also to educate me. I appreciated he took the time to go into the detail and teach me, and I learned what had caused my brakes to go bad, - he seems extremely knowledgeable and knew what he was doing. I definitely feel safer and have less anxiety in my car now, and most of all because in the time I spent talking to Sam and James I got the feeling that they would do a good job; they knew what they were doing, and so trusting them with the responsibility of keeping my car safe to drive was very easy for me. They even allowed my mom to use a 10% coupon/discount to help us out, and they also had my car done in 3 hours - which we thought was going to take overnight. All we have is a Walmart in my home town, so we have always gone there to get my oil changed, tires rotated, etc. Walmart is cool or whatever, but there and at the 290 location there usually is no one at the desk, they take forever, and they are very short with you. Even when waiting inside the lobby there was always someone at the counter, they got people's cars in from what I saw quickly from when they walked in, and ultimately the interactions were positive, so I did not mind waiting. I will definitely be coming back as a permanent customer and have decided to just start making a little bit of the longer drive to this location for my car needs instead of Walmart, and it's simply because of the outstanding customer service, the friendliness, & my comfort in the fact that these employees come off SO knowledgeable and really want to help, they seemed to enjoy being at work. I will be coming back in the next few weeks for an oil change, and am looking forward to running into these two awesome friendly people again. Thank you so much for all your help, I never have left a review before, but this was worth documenting. I have been to Brake Check before and had no issues in the past. I scheduled an appointment to bring my truck in to have the rear drums adjusted (installed by Brake Check just a number of months earlier) as they squealed really bad in the morning or when the vehicle was cold. After the tech ran their inspection, they suggested turning the drums and front rotors as good maintenance. I said "sure go right ahead", 2 hours later, Juan comes out and tells me I have "no pedal"...meaning no sufficient pedal pressure to stop the vehicle. He recommends they inspect the rear drums and possible bleed the rear to see if pressure comes back. I said "sure" and thanked him for the update. I felt a little uneasy but I understand drum brakes can be finicky. 20 minutes pass and Juan comes back out and states there was no change. At this point, I am starting to get concerned as my truck braked just fine, I just wanted the squeal to go away and no I have no brakes! Juan recommends they power bleed the system and see if that will help...at no charge. "ok" I tell him. another hour or so later, the truck "kinda" has brakes. The tech went and took it on a test drive and came back and didn't say a word about it, just plopped the keys on the counter. Juan says, "we got them better than they were, but you will want the dealer to look at them". The reason he said this was because earlier in our conversation, he mentioned that the brake fluid looked really bad. I had told him that the dealership nearby changed the brake fluid less than a year ago and I've had no issues. Anyway, I took the truck and immediately felt low brake pressure. I knew this wasn't right. How could they let me leave like this? I live less than 5 miles from the shop, so I limped home and immediately call the dealer for an appointment. I did not trust this location to diagnose or repair the truck. After about 1 hour at the dealer, the truck was fixed. Brake Check introduced air into the system which led to a soft pedal. $180 bill (on top of what Brake Check charged me for their "service"). For those of you reading this, be mindful when choosing. I trusted this shop to eliminate a simple rear squeal and ended up having to pay another shop to fix their mistake. When confronted about this, Juan offered no assistance. This is why I am posting my experience. I understand auto repair shops get unwarranted bad raps from customers. its the nature of the industry they chose to operate in. What is not ok is when they do not own up to it or choose to make you the consumer feel guilty about it. Stay safe out there friends. read more

I have spent two days here. The first was supposed to be 20-30 minutes, and it took over an hour. Then they tried to tell me I couldn't have my car back because it needed the work done today. Bullocks. That was Josh. Buzzed hair and glasses. I do need the work done, so I called a couple of places today. I was able to talk this one down the most, and saved over $100 off the original So, I came in, and was told it wouldn't take too long. So my husband and I decided to wait. Four and a half hours later, we were told it would still be another hour and a half. Probably would have been a quick job if anyone was actually at the car for more than two seconds at a time. They all huddle behind a section of brick wall that hides them from view, where they're grouped around a computer. There's nothing nearby, no one stays in the waiting room (Chance, who seems to be the receptionist who is constantly dipping, is the one controlling the mouse on the computer in the back), and they NEVER check on you or give you updates. There is no coffee in the pot, and even if there were, the creamer is empty, and a crusty box of brown sugar (seriously?!) lies open on the little counter. Gross. I should have just paid the extra money and gotten it done at CarMax. At least the coffee is fresh there and they offer you a shuttle to anywhere in a five mile radius and will then pick you back up when your car is ready. quote. *Update!* Nearly three weeks later, my brakes still sound like I'm killing a litter of kittens. And my ABS and brake lights are still on. Have been since day one. I got a feedback call, and when I told the woman about my experience, she said a Mr. Lozcano or something similar who was the regional manager would call me immediately. I brought my 2007 Honda CR-V here with a busted CV axle. They replaced it within 24 hours for around $360. Two weeks later the axle failed in the middle of an intersection nearly causing a terrible accident for my mother who was driving. Two guys jumped out and helped her push it out of the intersection and we had to get it towed and get the new axle replaced. I called because they claim they have a lifetime warranty on parts and they apologized and promised my money would be refunded, asking me to bring the old axle and receipts by the location. I complied and brought by in late November. It's now mid-January and nobody will return my calls or assist me with this refund... I will continue to call the corporate office and better business bureau until this is resolved. read more

Overall: not happy because i believe the pricing is deceptive and I was bait and switched on the final bill The Good: Mechanic Josh is friendly, knowledgeable, and informative and I felt like my vehicle was in good hands. I like the fact that they will let you in the bay area if you are interested in learning about your vehicle, asking questions, etc. I've test drove my vehicle for 3 days now and it drives great. The Bad: My main beef is not so much the high pricing, but because the manager made me a quote and then went back and changed it using some kind of smoke and mirrors sales tactic. I went in last week to get some work done on my front suspension- a strut, ball joints, tie rod ends, and a lower control arm. I had done most of the right side myself already but the cold weather was making the job no fun so I decided to take it in. The "list price" I was quoted was high, around $1,500 and some change. I was not given any kind of printout, just showed a computer screen with some per job pricing, parts and labor not itemized. The manager Brian said there was a 7 hour discount for getting all of the work done being that there was so much overlap, which I pointed out having just done the work myself. Of course I wanted it all done as I had told them up front exactly what I wanted done when I first pulled up. He said their labor was 75 an hour so quick mental math tells me that's about $500 off. Somehow the final bill came out to $1400 which did not seem to add up. Brian had manually gone into the system and adjusted the labor for each job, but clearly these adjustments could not have totaled 7 hours. I challenged this but was told this was the best price that could be offered for this service. I was really confused by this, wondering if the tax or the alignment or something else was throwing the total off, but since they don't show you any breakdown of parts and labor it was really difficult to decipher how they came up with this and I had no printed quote to compare. I was in a rush so I begrudgingly agreed to pay but I feel this was handled pretty unfairly. read more

They took my car in a timely manner (I made an appointment) and even gave me the 20% labor discount from online appointment setting. I went home while they repaired my car. The price is reasonable with their oil change deal. I am on change 2 today - 4th one will be free. However, they gave me my car back with the steering wheel cover absolutely filthy. Yes, they did their best to clean it after I went back in and pointed it out... But I expect my car to be in the same or better condition when I get it back. I definitely would recommend this place. Mando, the store manager, as well as the rest of the employees are great. They really helped me out with getting me the best deal possible and did a great job. The main worry people have is whether a mechanic/brake place is being honest. I can attest to them being the most honest place. When my friend was getting their brakes done at a competitor, I even called Mando and asked him about what they were doing and if they were giving my friend a good price for the work. He double checked and told me that they totally were and let me know the right questions to ask. I wanted to bring my friends business over to him, but he even went as far as to tell me the hassle of getting it out of the garage may not be worth it because it was a very fair price (and my friend was in a rush), but would love my business next time. I am going there to get some work done soon, and my friend was so impressed with how honest he was---that she is going there from now on. So in 6 months when she needs the full work done to her brakes---BrakeCheck on I35 South Austin is where she said she is definitely going. She even mentioned that she felt as a woman and being scared of being ripped off in these particular kinds of situations (not that as men we don't too, because i feel the same way)---she felt more comfortable knowing she could go somewhere where they wouldn't take advantage of her. I drive my 2005 civic a lot, one day I noticed that I was feeling the bumps on the road a little more than usual . I brought it in to the South Austin location on I-35, they said my front struts were out, they did the job and I got it back the next day. When I picked it up and I was driving I began to hear a faint noise, I took it back and I thought it could of been a ball bearing that was wearing down, I left the car with them again to check. but when I came back the was all set, not only does the car drive fantastically, the noise is also gone. The thing is that they could of easily said yeah it's the bearing and got me for a couple of hundred bucks and I would of been none the wiser.
