After I spent almost $600 in getting new rear brakes and an oil change. While they were fast, they use cheap parts. Not even 6 months later I had to replace the very brakes they put on with higher quality brakes. Brake Check could at least have the stock for me to choose from. Instead they use the crappiest products thinking that their life time warranty will have me only to return to replace with more crappy products. No thanks! read more

Guys are real friendly. They took me out and showed me what was up with my tires, let me look under and see exactly where the oil leak came from. They alinged me, changed my oil and fixed the leak. My car has been running much smoother with better gas mileage. Their lifetime alignment deal is a steal. You twice the amount of one alignment, and you have free alignments for the life of the car with only a $3 surcharge each time you come in. I was so stressed out going in thinking the worst was wrong with my car. Although I ended up spending more than I anticipated the savings were AMAZING. The manager knew I was on a tight budget and worked with me the best he could, he saved me roughly $150! I got there right when they opened so the wait was ONLY about 2 hours total! Although appointment is highly suggested and can save you even more $. These guys are honest and very excellent at customer service! My accord was shuddering more and more when I hit the brakes, I could hear the brakes dragging, and I they occasionally squealed pretty bad. I decided to take it in finally, expecting to hear that I would need "the works" and planned on getting a few estimates. I went here first. They inspected my car, took me into their shop to show me the condition of everything, and told me I only needed basic service and only on the front-end. Pads, rotor resurface, new hardware, and bleed/flush the brake-lines for 200 bucks. Pretty good deal so I took it. Three weeks later and I still have no squealing, dragging, or shudder. And if you go to their website and make an appointment at least 3 days in advance you get 20% off! read more

My driver's side wiper suddenly would not move across the windshield all the way during the rain on Saturday. It would try to move but only a few inches. After pulling over, we discovered it could be moved when it should not have. This indicated to me something was loose and not a motor issue. I was near this Brake Check location, so I slowly made my way there and asked if they could check to see if something was loose. They wanted to hook it up for a diagnostic at $75, telling me that if the motor needed to be replaced the charge would go toward repairs. I specifically told them I could have my OnStar do that for free and I could tell them the code, if there was one. I did not believe there would be a code for a something loose on a wiper. I asked why someone couldn't just look at it without doing the diagnostic, he told me they had to get paid for doing something. I am not an idiot and know it would not cost $75 to tighten something up, so I left and slowly made my way home. A 26 mile trip in the rain. Took the car to the dealer this morning, it was a loose bolt and they only charged me $22. Brake Check completely missed an opportunity to gain a new customer because it was all about how much money they could get me to pay. Because of this statement, I am pretty sure they would have said it was the motor to get more money. I was willing to pay for a repair, even a small amount to just look at it. But not for $75! read more

I made an appointment online for 11:30 on 8/7/2015. My car was not even looked at until 1. After that, the guy in charge called me back twice to tell me it was going to be more expensive. He then said it would be done at 3:30. I returned at 3:50 and patiently watched my car go untouched while on the lift until 4:30. After I had to ask ask, he has told me that it would be another 35 minutes before done... I could tell it wasn't even being worked on because the guy ran into the pole scrambling because of how panicked he became. I am assuming that appointments mean nothing to brake check. I am glad I didn't purchase any warranties because I don't want to spend any more time in this or any break check lobby. read more

I have taken my dodge truck into this Brake Check location twice. I do not know much about vehicles, but I have friends and family that know everything there is. This location was so helpful and in no way tried to tack on meaningless problems or charges. As far as the bad reviews go for this location, it is such a friendly and helpful one that sometimes you will have to wait a little longer than expected if you want the best. read more

My recent experience the this Brake check location was an all day activity. In part the reason for the delay was due another vendor that first did not want to honor their own parts warranty (due to their miss communication). I witnessed the acting Manager of Brake Check (Bentley) be persistent and insistent on focusing their attention on satisfying customer and moving forward. He was very patient and determined and kept me informed. He successfully secured the replacement parts and once delivered were installed within 30 minutes and i was on my way. I came in here a week ago for a standard brake job. The actual service performed onto vehicle was great. The mechanic working on my vehicle had great customer service skills as well. As for the front desk guy, he could have used a few lessons from the mechanic. While it didn't hinder the service performed on my vehicle he definitely didn't help to give me the o line booking discount. I called and made an appointment because they're website was not allowing me to do so online. Since I didn't "officially" do it online he wouldn't give me a break on the discount. Even after explaining the website issue. As I said I recommend this place for the actual services but not so much on customer service. read more

I live just down the street from this Brake Check ansd I started coming here about a year ago when I got a flat tire on the frontage road. I pulled in, and a man came out with a concerned look, asking me if everything was alright. In less than 10 minutes, he had me back on the road with my donut on and he refused to take any money from me. After that, I decided to start coming here for my oil changes and general maintenance. Today, I stopped by because my car started making a bad noise if I turn left. I knew the guys working here would tell me the simplest solution to keep my older car on the road without charging me a fortune. It turns out, it was a piece of plastic dragging near the wheel. They removed it for me. I asked Juan, the manager how much I owed for the service. He gave me a fist bump and sent me on my way. I have never written a review of a business before, but I feel compelled to because, especially as a woman, I sometimes feel like I have a target sign on my back when I have to deal with something automotive related and it can be quite a stressful experience. After a very stressful night with an ER visit took my Mother-N-Laws car to pick up their pills and to my surprise the breaks did some crazy things stopping leaving the pharmacy. Did a quick search for the nearest Brake place for they needed it repaired quickly for her to drive to the orthopedic doctor next week. Called Brake Check and talked with Jeremy. Explained what was going on that the sensor has been going for about a month and it did a grinding thing stopping on a grade when leaving Walgreen's. We were expecting a HUGE bill and problems. But they were so honest the rotors were not ruined yet they cleaned up the breaks and the pads and all is good. Had it completed within a few hours. When we picked it up Josh was so pleasant with us and Jeremy came out and wished us the best with the entire medical situation. Very Very considerate and honest employee's there. Came in to this location one morning for new brakes. After inspection the on duty manager gave me an estimate and recommendations on the work that needed to be done, I'm on a budget , so I didn't get everything recommended done. Spent around $300 , and was there from 10am to 7pm. Well ... I don't think that made the manager very happy. He was a little upset and later it showed in the comments he left on the receipt. Three weeks later my brakes are making noise again. I went back and spoke to him he said he would look at it , but I would have to pay an additional $100 for that. OK.. So finally I went to the Brake check on Ben white and Congress. This was a completely different place. The staff was great and very helpful , definitely took care of me. Oh and for no charge . Stay away from this place. I took my car in on 2/14/2015. I had brake issues but my car was still drive able . They charged me $500 , the very next day my car was still doing the same thing but now it's shaking. I called them and they tell me to bring it back. I took it back 2/16/2015. Russle the service manager said he would find out what was going on. Later he calls and tells me he found the problem and it was going to be $150 more to fix. He also informed me he gave me a discount because I had to bring the car back, a whopping $9.98. I was assured the car was fixed this time. The car ran fine on the way home. The next day on my way to work my brakes would lock up or were very slow to engage. I almost rear ended a car. I called Russle and explained what was going on. his reply was that I had an old car. Now I'm out $650 and a car. Out of that $650, $400 was labor. Please do not go there. read more

I recently took my 2001 Ford Ranger XLT truck to Brake Check #415 on S. IH35 and was delightfully reminded of how easy the people there are to work with. In 2005 I had brought the truck to them to have the brakes worked on. At that time they refaced the rotors and drums, cleaned and adjusted the drums, flushed the brake line, changed the brake pads, cleaned and serviced the calipers, and replaced the wheel cylinders. Just this past week I took the same truck to them for evaluation before I proceeded to haul some heavy loads. They gave me a complete review of all repairs that needed to be done to the truck and then worked with me extensively to whittle that list down to an affordable list of the most critical items plus a few recommended repairs that weren't critical to the immediate need but just seemed like good preventative measures to take to forestall any unplanned emergency repairs. They refaced the brake drum, cleaned and adjusted the drums, flushed and filled the brake lines, replaced the shocks, aligned the wheels, replaced the idler pulley (which was wobbling) and gave the truck a complete tune up (which I had never had done). I could not be more pleased with the work! It was affordable, quickly and professionally handled, and the truck drives and handles like a new truck. AND, incidentally, it's using only 1/2 of the fuel or LESS than it was before the tune up so gas savings alone will soon help pay for the repairs. Be sure to check these guys out for a competitive quote the next time you need any work done to your vehicle. Estimates are free and you only have to gain from the experience! read more

My vehicle was making that sqeally noise coming from the wheels, so I took it in to Break Check to get look at, they told me that my brakes needed to be service, so I let them work on them. When I left the shop, the noise was still there, so i spoke to Steve, who was the manager at the time, and he told me to drive around to see if the noise would go away, so I did, for awhile, and the noise continue. I took it back to get look at in Sept 2010, because the noise never went away. This time I spoke to Nick, another manager, he told me that some hardware wasn't installed, when I asked him why it wasn't done the first time, he told me it probally didn't need it. So I paid again to have the work done, when I drove off from the shop, the noise was still there. I immediately call Nick, he told me told me to bring it in again. I brought it back in for a third time after my wife and I got back from our vacationing in Big Bend to see if they could fix it once again. So I get another call saying that my vehicle was ready to go and that there was no more noise. I drive it off, and at the first light I stopped at, there it was again, that same irritating noise. I then called Nick again and told him that the noise was still there, he told me to bring it back so he could look at it. So I go in for a forth time, and this time I get charged again because Nick was saying that the brake pads were not lining up. Before I left this time I asked for the DM number and told Nick that I would never recommend this company to anyone. So then I left the shop once again hoping I would not have any more sqealing, nope, first stop I made at the light, there it was again. I then called Nick once again, and told him, that it was still there, he told me again to bring it back, at this point I pretty much lost all confidence in Break Check. Out of the four times I brought my vehicle in to them, I was charged three times and am still having the same problems. I received a call from Anthony the DM of this area, but wasn't able to answer, because I was at work. When I did return the call on Nov 30th, I left a message to call me back, no call back. Ten days later, I call again, another message left, no call back. I guess he probally thinks I will give up on it. But it kind of hard to do since everytime I am driving around town, I still hear that same noise. This issue has still not been resolved, I had to get the BBB involved to help me with this. read more

My brakes went out on me this morning and the nearest brake shop I could get to safely was the Brake Check on South IH 35 in Austin. John and Rob were courteous, allowed me to leave my vehicle there until I could reach my husband, and even offered me a ride home. After phoning later to authorize the work on the vehicle I returned before their closing time to pick up the vehicle. I was disappointed to find it not ready: the original problem (a bad vacuum booster) had been found and fixed, but the brake lights were staying on, a problem I didn't have before Brake Check. Nor could they originally give me an estimate on how long it would take to find and remedy the problem. In the end however Josh and Rob found the brake light problem quickly (15-30 minutes), remedied it, and didn't charge me for the brake light repair. The final bill for the vacuum booster work was only about $20 more than the original morning estimate. The only thing that keeps me from giving this team four stars is the accuracy of other reviewers statements about the team huddling around the work bay computer. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle I stood in plain sight in the waiting room and made eye contact with at least two workers, yet no one came into the waiting area to speak to me or tell me about the brake light problem. Meanwhile another customer came in to pick up her car, which had been there since 9am, and she received the same treatment, eventually deciding to leave without speaking to anyone. Fortunately she decided to approach the bay doors and was able to make contact with John. For myself, after several minutes of standing I sat down in plain site of the bay door and waited another few minutes. Still no contact. It wasn't until I stepped into the bay computer area where all the workers were standing and talking that Josh told me about the brake light problem. Still, overall, I'm satisfied, would take my vehicle there again, and can recommend this particular location to others. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I had my brakes done, and two weeks later, they were squeaking. I went back, they resurfaced my rotors and told me that they recommend that I get new calipers. I asked if it needed to be done right then and was told no. I went in about two months later since my brakes were squeaking again. Had the caliper service done at that time. Guess what? Brakes still squeaking. Went back again and was told they were going to put on new brake pads and resurface the rotors again. I am also told I need new Calipers. When I tell Manny I already had those done, he responds with an "Oh, must be under a different invoice"..I'm confused. If resurfacing didn't work the first two times, why would it work now. Also, did you even inspect my vehicle or just say I needed Calipers. Were they not done on my last visit? I paid for them to be done. I was then told a price it would cost to resurface since I now needed these new pads. When I questioned Manny, he starts clicking on the computer and tells me another price. I question him again and am told yet another price. I tell him no thank you and leave. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

My husband and I took his car in on a busy Saturday when we suspected he needed new brake pads. The guys at Brake Check, especially Brian Mills, were extremely accommodating, great to work with, and took the time to make sure we understood everything they were seeing. They even walked us out to the garage to look at the brakes and rotors with the tires off. They called to follow up with a quote when they said they would and in no way did I feel like there were any pressure sales. They stayed late to try to make sure the sensors were properly reset in my husband's BMW and when we drove home that night an unrelated-to-brakes warning light came on. We went back in the next day and Brian Mills ran a diagnostic test FOR FREE to see why the light was coming on. He reviewed to report with us and sent us on our way (the car received a clean bill of health). We will certainly be back, and I HIGHLY recommend taking your car here. My only wish is that they did all types of car servicing! read more

This Brake Check is terrible. We had some belts replaced 4 months ago at this location and they started to squeek and squeal so I took it in this morning to have it looked at. Mind you, this was at 855am. I finally got the car back at 2pm after waiting for them to replace the belts. Drove 10 miles, and on my way home, the squeeks and squeals started again, but with a vengeance. I got to the intersection of 35 and william cannon and the whole car died, at the light, during rush hour. The alternator belt snapped off. I called them, and they had a technician come out to replace the belt on the side of the road, but it took him 45 min to get there, and then another 2 hours to install the new belt. In the processs, he had to break a lugnut off the wheel because they cross threaded it when putting it back on at the shop. We dropped the car back off at 6pm b/c even with the new belt, the belts were still malfunctioning. It is now 830pm and we still haven't heard from them.... this is rediculous.... NEVER AGAIN. To their credit, the people working there are very nice, just bad techs. read more

Don't go to Brake Check. This shop's work nearly caused my husband to crash on the highway because the entire brake assembly literally fell off of the truck. We got brake work on our truck in Nov. 2013. The technician tried to send us home without one of our lugnuts until we forced him to go and find one to install. The oil pan started leaking when we got our truck home because Brake Check hadn't properly tightened a bolt after changing the oil. Then in Feb. 2014, my husband was driving on the highway and the entire front driver-side brake assembly fell off. It ruptured the tire and nearly caused my man to lose control of the truck. I'm glad I was not driving because I probably would have wrecked. But he somehow pulled over. The rim of the tire dug a gouge into the asphalt. Our truck sustained damage from the incident. Brake Check actually took responsibility at first: They towed the truck to their shop and they "fixed" the damage. But my husband had to rent a truck for work during the time that his own truck was out of service. Brake Check promised to reimburse this expense. After we got our own truck back, we would be stupid to trust their work after what had happened to us. We took the truck to a Toyota dealership to get a full diagnostic on all the work Brake Check did initially in Nov. 2013 and the subsequent repairs in Feb. 2014. The toyota dealership found problems with the 2014 repairs and we decided to have Toyota REALLY fix it to the right standards, rather than trusting Brake Check yet again. Fool me once--shame on you. Fool me twice--shame on me. You're not gonna fool me three times. To make a long story short, this whole ordeal cost us $1,300 out of pocket. We tried to seek reimbursement from Brake Check's corporate headquarters in San Antonio but they only offered to give us $313. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and again, Brake Check offered the same figure. Finally, on Jan. 6, 2015, we filed a lawsuit against Brake Check which is still pending. I'm really upset that we ever went to this store. It's our opinion that Brake Check's negligent work caused the brakes to fall off. This could have actually cost my husband his life on the road. To add insult to injury, the company refuses to reimburse us for the full expenses that they caused us. That $1,300 is a lot of money for us. Now I'm going to have to spend a lot of my own time trying to force this company to do the right thing in court. Please, do not go to Brake Check! It's my feeling that they did negligent work on our truck and then their corporate employees treated us wrong. read more

WOMEN DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE ALONE! I took my car because I had to go on a 16 hour trip. My brakes were not making any noise, I just wanted to be extra cautious for my trip so i thought i'd get new brakes. I took my care there 10-9-15 and paid around $270 for new pads, and a bunch of other stuff they swore I needed. I had told them that I did not want the rear brake shoes that they said I needed, then when I came back to pick up my car I found out that they had still put on the rear brake shoes. The manager told me that he gave my car a free brake flush so that he could put on the shoes and that it would only be about $20 more. I couldn't do anything about it since they had already done this, WITHOUT LETTING ME KNOW, so I just paid for it. As soon as I left my car was making a horribly loud squealing sound in the right read tire. I called immediately and they told me to come back the next day, so I did. They said they found the problem but it would cost $190 to fix! According to them my car was making this noise because it had new shoes on old drums. I refused to pay for the $190 because I had not authorized them to work on the rear shoes in the first place! After being there for a long time the manager finally got tired of me and said he would put the new drums for free and that that would fix the problem. That was 10-10-15, it is now 10-27-15 and my car has not gotten any better. On top of that the manager told me that he would refund me the money I paid for the rear brake shoes and I still have not seen that refund. THESE PEOPLE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW ABOUT CARS, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. read more

On July 6, 2012, I took my 2000 Ford Taurus in to Brake Check 415, 6015 S. IH 35. $145 or so dollars and about an hour later, I was told "They just have to bleed the lines and road test it, and you're good to go." I was pleased at the service and the update. Within about five minutes someone drove my car to the front. I paid and went to the car and stepped on the brake pedal. STILL NO BRAKES! I was asked to let them check again, and this time was advised (as an afterthought, apparently, at a brake specialist's place of business) that a new master cylinder and a booster brakes (or whatever) were required. I was appalled that a brake place had not checked out the master cylinder and there was no evidence that the brakes were bled OR that there was a road test. I was sitting right there! Many phone calls later, I am still waiting for these people to respond. Someone named "Allan" telephoned me, assured me he was "on the way to that store" and never called back. I called him and he said "I'm waiting for them to call me." Why did he need a call if he had gone there? Anyway, he never called back. He assured me that "I always do what I say I'm going to do." My experience was that, actually, he does NOT do what he says he is going to do, 100% of the time. Several phone calls later (including one to the CEO but I only got to a "Patricia" who suddenly became "operations support" when I indicated I wanted to speak to a Mr. Johnnie Peveto, one of the CEO's. She assured me that someone would call me. I contacted "Allan" again who said that a partial refund would be made. Nothing has happened: no calls back from anyone and, of course, no refund. Meanwhile, I have been driving the car very little because it hardly has any brakes, a condition the people at Brake Check assured me was "good to go" and "it's driveable." I just read about the Caven death in 2004 and the subsequent lawsuit against these people, apparently settled, but with cause of that accident apparently attributed by DPS to faulty brake work. I would think, therefore, that this outfit would be more sensitive to its workmanship and follow up. So far, I am out $145 (not a huge sum), but I, too, was sent away with my brakes operating exactly as they were when I went in. It is now July 21, well past the 24 hours turnaround time that they promise and advertise for "someone to get back with you. I have driven the car but there have been near misses. I am having the work done elsewhere, but I don't think ANYONE at all should go to Brake Check for service AT ALL. Their work is very bad; their pr is worse! read more
