We weren't sure what to expect when we pulled in on a Saturday at lunch and we were the only people there. We ended up being pleasantly surprised with the menu and the food. We ordered a full rack of ribs and probably could have made do with a half. We ordered 1 lb of brisket and we would have liked more of that. We had the sidewinder fries and cornbread and my kids all fought over the honey cornbread. Warning: A southerner reviewing midwestern BBQ. We ordered 2, 2 meat combos (both pulled pork and brisket), 1 pork sandwich combo, and 1 pork nachos which came to a total of $64.18. The pork was delicious and very moist. The brisket had mixed reviews; one person that doesn't normally eat brisket thought it was fatty, while the brisket veteran found it to be normal brisket. 10 year old loved the pork sandwich and finished it before I had the thought to snap a pic and leave a review. Mac & Cheese was yummy, green beans with bacon could use more salt, while the buttered corn was very buttery, salty, and almost tastes like it has a hint of maple. The pork nachos would be a disappointment for some, as pictured in other reviews they come deconstructed, but for my kid that was eating it she thought that was great and enjoyed the meal. We also had a side of corn bread muffin which is deliciously sweet where it has some type of sweet drizzle on it, but the center could use more sweetness (it wasn't bad, but would not order it again). Really wish that they had the sauces on the table so that you could try them all to know if you'd like to buy one of their bottles to go. Save room for dessert! The peach cobbler was delicious and affordable for $3.29. It is served warm with whipped cream on top. My picture does not do the cobbler justice as the whipped cream was melting from the heat, but it was divine. Tables inside are close as the building is smaller, but it wasn't a problem. You also have the option to sit outside where there is plenty of room between tables on the covered patio. However, the lack of a baby changing table in neither the men nor women's bathroom was not ideal. They do have high chairs for children though. Overall: would definitely go again for the pulled pork and cobbler. read more

Always a treat to find a place like this in smaller towns! I ordered the #2 Brisket Sandwich Combo with a side of onion rings, potato salad, and 3 ribs a la carte. The brisket comes with no sauce and pickles optional for maximum eater's choice. I ate mine with the Hot BBQ sauce, which is one of the best sauces in the country. The pitmaster has the award to prove it. The Hot BBQ sauce starts normal and slowly builds a peppery, smoky flavor. It is not too hot for a Midwestern palette, but it will catch up on you a bit for a nice kick. Try a taste even if you're not into spicy food! The brisket was respectable, but my favorite were the ribs. Served, again, with no sauce, the ribs were tender and smoky. I ate these with the original BBQ sauce, which stands out well as a house-made sauce. You could eat the ribs without sauce and still enjoy them. Similar to the experience with the Hot BBQ sauce, I love how the smoky, savory flavor slowly catches up on you. Mmmmmm. On the side, the onion rings and potato salad were both excellent too. I am picky about my potato salad, and this batch was the cherry on top of an already amazing dinner. The owner/pitmaster, Darren, is a military veteran and retired law enforcement officer. He is friendly and happy to talk to customers when he is not busy preparing food. It is nice to see a great restaurant take shape like this for a nice person! The ambiance is clean, kitschy and good music is playing. You can sit inside or on the patio-conversation is easy but the best part is the food! I had St Louis ribs and there was a generous serving with your choice of two sides. Tender ribs served with an award winning bbq sauce on the side. I used the sauce but you wouldn't need to do so. The brisket at BP ranks among the elite I've had -- incredibly moist and tender and well seasoned with an exceptional bark and smoke ring. This is BBQ done right. The collards and cornbread were great as well. I would have sworn the owner was from Texas, but turns out he's from Philadelphia. Very nice guy inquiring to the satisfaction of his diners and greeting regulars.
