Cheesy Garlic Bread is a MUST! I was expecting your typical basic garlic bread, but no this was a piece of art. Mozzarella, ricotta, sliced garlic, grated parmesan, and Italian seasoning with a side of red sauce AND ranch - amazing! Came to try the bahn me pizza for pizza week. Loved the flavors in this slice- curry sauce, vegan meat with the fresh slaw and a crunchy crust. As someone with a nut allergy I was surprised at how good their vegan cheese was given that it was nut free (the mozzarella sticks are the only things with nuts!). You order at a little kiosk and they have outdoor seating that is shared among the different food vendors in the building. Picked up a to go order. I am vegan and this was the #1 place I wanted to stop at in Portland-- it did not disappoint. I got the Bianca and the Bacon Damn Sure. Being from Michigan, the Detroit-style pizza tasted just like home. One piece was so filling! The ricotta and the sausage on the Bianca were absolute perfection. We ordered takeout to take home after a long day of hiking. The online ordering is quite simple, and the descriptions used on the ToastTab menu are thorough, even highlighting all the options that could be made gluten-free. We ordered the pizza week special: the smash and pass, as well as a Bianca, both without tomato sauce, as my partner is on a low acid diet. We requested the gluten-free option on both and put a note about no tomato sauce and celiac-level precautions in the "special requests" field. After waiting over the estimated 30 minutes in the car without any updates, I went inside to see if things were ready. They said it would be another five minutes. With our request being special and requiring extra safety precautions (they prepare and slice the GF pizzas in a separate area), I didn't mind waiting and extra 10-15 minutes. I confirmed the order was GF and saw that they remembered no tomato sauce, which was a relief, as so many notes often get lost in transit with online ordering. As far as the pizzas themselves, they have the best, fluffiest GF crust we have ever had! The pizzas are just as heavy as any meaty, cheese, gluteny pizza and you probably wouldn't miss anything even if you weren't vegan or gluten-free! The cheese is stretchy, and the smash and pass tasted just like a hamburger. I'm only docking one star for burnt edges of the crust and the overly salty cheeses. Plenty of flavor. It was a bit rich and filling for plenty of vegan cheese was used. Perhaps a touch less vegan cheese and other pizza pies with more veggies would be nice. I like that this pizza had plenty of veggies on it. I just got this and was able to eat it all. Each pizza serves one to two depending on your appetite. If you come with a friend or spouse might be good to split one and order a Kale Caesar salad to share. Viktor Vaughn is the real name of Dr. Doom who happens to be the arch enemy of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Comics. Viktor Vaughn is also a British rapper. GREAT GLUTEN FREE CRUST. I used to be vegan, no longer am, but came with a friend who is vegan at her recommendation and was pleasantly surprised. Even when I was vegan, I stayed away from the fake cheeses, but whatever they use at Boxcar really was delicious. It's a little expensive, but totally worth it for the quality and how much food you get. Pro tip: reheat left overs in the air fryer or toaster oven for crispy edges.
