It's been decades since I've gone bowling. When invited by our in-laws, on a Friday night, we happily accepted. Plenty of parking, plenty of lanes (50) and lots of teenagers and young adults. That....was nice to see. Not that I love bowling , and I'm glad to see a new generation turned on to the sport, but the fact that it's an activity that doesn't require a phone. I visited Bowler City on Memorial Day for a day of fun. I was happy to see that they were open on the holiday. It was a no frills alley but it was quite large with lots of available lanes (50 lanes in total!). They also have a small arcade when you first enter. I thought the prices were reasonable for the area. Definitely neighborhood and family friendly - great place to take kids for school trips and outings. Don't expect a clubby music scene or an elaborate menu of drinks or food (they had pizza and vending machines). I enjoyed the low key vibe. I would definitely come here for a date or friend outing. No thrill bowling alley. The lanes are waxed nicely but the bowling balls can be in better condition. The rental shoes are also a bit worn out but overall, a good place to bowl. Probably one of the best bowling centers on the East coast. Friendly and helpful staff & managers. Oil conditions on lanes are generally never an issue unless the place is packed in the evenings which is to be expected. The Pro Shop owner is also very knowledgeable and is very capable in offering advice to push you to the next level regardless of current bowling experience. Also, the owner of the establishment is an avid bowler who loves the sport which definitely shows. Overall, a great place to bring your friends and family. 10/10 read more

I think this place is great for kids. Ive come here two summers in a row. I love that they have that little dragon slide for little kids to push their balls down. This year we bought the Groupon and it was a great deal. 4 of us came and played two games. My 2 and 4 year old were entertained. The girls bathroom has a potty that is nice and low too which is a plus. They have a little arcade and they are open pretty early compared to other places. For a mom, this place is great! read more

I went here on a Tuesday night, it was crowded there was a lot of spots but none opened so I parked near the garbage containers in the back like others did. The computers to control the games were hard to use and it said I had a strike when I only had a spare so it's not that accurate sometimes. The employees were nice and quick, they make great cocktails like a dirty Shirley temple. There is ample to do like a card game, arcade and games. The bathrooms were big, a bit cold. Bowling lanes that have bumpers if you want them. Smaller balls (6lbs) are in the back you can request for the kids, and they have the little alligators to let them roll down the lanes. Part of Nationwide Bowling Centers. As always, difficult to find balls with bigger holes unless you go very heavy (and that makes my arms hurt). Fat thumbs are a challenge. This reminds of the 80s... and decor hasn't changed much from then, I'm guessing. About $10 for a game + shoe rental. They have deals on various days of the week (late-night bowling, etc.); open lanes vary (see website for schedule). Ended up being about $31 for three people to play one game with shoes. Yeah, it's the Northeast, so a bit more expensive than bowling in the South or Midwest... Alcohol in the bar area (no minors, closed off), party room for birthdays, and a small arcade. Recently I attended a child's birthday party at this bowling alley. I had not been to this location in close to 20 years, so this business has been open for a long time. The party was great, they had plenty of food, and it was good. A variety of regular bowling alley food, pizza, chicken fingers, fries, buffalo wings, and sandwiches. There was also plenty of soda and water. The lanes were set up for both adults and children to bowl. All of the kids enjoyed bowling with the bumpers up of course, and with the help of the handy dinosaur caddy thing to push the ball through. Everyone had lots of fun. The place does need some updating, but it still serves it's purpose. Bowling is great family activity everyone enjoys. I'd definitely recommend visiting this spot if you are looking to bowl. read more

I enjoyed bowling with my son the day after New Year's Day, something I haven't done in quite some time. I was there previous to Christmas to buy a bowling ball bag as a gift, thought I'd come back and bowl a few games. PROS: This place has been around all my life. One of the only bowling alleys left this place has reasonable bowling prices. They have a bar which has a longe connected to it. Went here about 2 months ago. Place was fair. It was a Saturday night maybe around 10,11. There were a few lanes available without making any kind of reservation. The music was "ok" but could be better. Didn't try any of the food but we did have a few drinks. We've come with the family, played for two hours and had pizza and soda for around $50-$60 which included the shoe rentals. There were 7 of us and - we added fries and our kids all had fun! Like the outer space theme and the way they've modernized it somewhat. They have a video game room also. There are party rooms and my kids have attended parties here also. They bowled, played video games and then had pizza and cake in the private rooms. I've been coming to this bowling alley for years - I've tried other locations, but none provide the same service as Bowler City. Within the last year or so, they've updated their snack bar - (the food is now pretty good), the bar is a bit out dated, but their bartenders try to spice it up with new drinks - the mermaid water is my personal fav! If you go into the lounge area of the bar there are two pool tables, a foosball table, and darts. The bowling lanes themselves are lit well and easy to use. If you're still a newbie at bowling they can pull up the bumpers (thank you everyone who's done that for me) whereas in certain bowling alleys you have to be. Took my nieces here and other family members. Noticed that there were technical difficulties in a lane (40). Sometimes after the first bowl, the second bowl the pins would reset themselves with a full frame. Which lead to inaccuracy of scores. At first it was tolerable but as we got further into the game and it was becoming more frustrating, further more the balls were not coming back, as if they were all stuck on the bottom. My nieces were getting a little frustrated and at that point; with kids, when there mind is made, that is it. We reported it to management, he came and checked the lane. He checked the lane: * Didn't apologize * Never offered credit to come back, he said talk to the front desk as he is busy getting ready for the league lanes. We are all playing customers, especially a family with kids, he could be a little more apologetic and offer a better resolution. read more

This review is based on the people who work here. There is nothing wrong with the bowling alley itself because it's very nice and fun to hang out and bowl at. Right off the bat you could tell the people that work here are miserable! The people that work in the kitchen are the MOST miserable. My friends and I went over to go order some French fries and a Coke and this lady who was fairly young had a nasty attitude to begin with...she didn't greet me or anything. I ordered what I wanted and still no word comes out her mouth she looked very angry that I was ordering but it wasn't even close to closing time. Then I see her walking around with my fries in her hand I was confused as to why she was starring right at me but wouldn't come over to me. I then see her go over to the counter and talk to another women while still having my French fries in her hands. She's still starring right at me and I'm still very confused. She then walks over to me and goes "did someone order French fries?" I stay quiet and my friends say yes. She replies in a nasty voice "Well I couldn't see you that's why I'm squinting" and drops my fries on the table. Umm? Okay first off I know you could see me because I'm sure if you were "blind" if that's what you were getting at you wouldn't be starring at me straight in my eyes and talking about me and my table to another woman. Then She walks away and slams the kitchen door....ridiculous. Then when we left my friend left her keys on the table on accident. We go back inside and the woman that the "blind" lady was talking too goes to my friend "have you ever heard of key rings?" In a really sarcastic voice. Now is that a way to talk to your customer? Expensive and non-accommodating unless you're a regular. The desk clerk refuse to give us cross lanes even though the place was less than half full (we haven't bowled single lane in years)... The claim was they were about to start oiling and they didn't want to tie up lanes in case it got busy. Well we bowled 6 games over the course of 2 hours and in that time not one lane got oiled and the place got emptier (people were leaving at twice the rate of new bowlers arriving). The food was average and the drink prices sound good until to get them and discover they are extremely watered down. I may give them a second chance sometime in the future but no time soon. read more

The bowling is great..If your interested in ordering a beer or straight alcohol. Your good. My friend ordered two henny double shots in a (sugar) colada. When I tell you it was horrible. Your not getting any alcohol..you'll need EMS..especially if your diabetic. The sugar syrup content takes over everything for $25 for this. I think they need a better trained..innovative bartender. The chick they have is burnt out..She needs to go to Walmart at this point. I'm disgusted. It's probably not even real henny..because I swear henny outweighs anything..not this time. They're probably using knock offs and selling it fraudulently. SMH!!! They lucky my grandson likes to bowl or I would've cancelled all my games and left. Bowler City offers a rather high priced experience compared to other alleys. Mid day on Saturday, they had the lights out and replaced by disco style lighting, which meant the marks on the lanes weren't visible. This made it nearly impossible for those who came to practice. I may be a terrible bowler, but I do love the sport. I like this spot because: - it's affordable - they offer breakfast and bowling on Sundays - they have a bar - because if I wait, it's short, and once again they have a bar - they have the hot pink 6 pound-errrrs for the little kids and no one makes fun of me for using it. I'm a regular here and damn proud! One thing I must mention is that I often see people chowing down while bowling. I must say, as a child I use to venture to this place often, back even when my friends and I used the bumpers. I haven't been to this place in yearsssssss. I finally came back after a very long time (now bumper free!) with a group of 6 people and had a blast! Realistically, it is extremely hard to find a place to have a really great time for an inexpensive price....here...it's actually possible! Inexpensive food, inexpensive drinks, tons of lanes with inexpensive prices!!! And get this! They have deals regularly! Tonight, we were able to rent a lane for two hours between six people for only $47.00's, AND this includes the price for shoe rentals as well---like common, you can't beat that! There is even a deal here where people can rent the lane for only $1.00 per person per game!!! The food, average cafeteria like food which one should expect--- it's a bowling alley-- not a restaurant. Small bar area, also has a pool table which is pretty cool. But what is unfortunate is that they have no pitchers of beer!! **sad face** The place isn't exactly as "up-to-date" as other places, but it's still a great time. Friendly staff, always available especially when balls get stuck or pins fall in lanes. I haven't been here for probably over 25 years. My family and I attended a young lady's birthday party today. The appearance on the outside hasn't changed one bit, that's not a bad thing I'm just saying. Inside also hasn't changed much either, other than the lighting of the lanes and scoreboards its pretty much how I remembered it to be. I had my best score here back in 94/95 a 225, 8 strikes in a row. I had them print out my score so I could take it home. To this day I still have it, tucked away in my nite stand drawer. Now getting back to party, we were setup with 6 lanes at the end of the alley. Which is understandable seeing as to keep the kids from interfering with other bowlers not part of the party. Even so it was at times chaotic, not of the places fault but when you get a bunch of kids together who don't want to wait their turns to bowl well...! They have plenty of light bowling balls, 6 pounds so every kid was able to pick them up. They also provide a ramp in the shape of a dinosaur that can be placed at the beginning of the lane your bowling at. It's made of plastic and is lite so moving it into position is no problem. It's almost like a slide, but for a ball. Place the ball on top release and it's off. There's also bumper guards along both sides of the gutters so no kid throws a gutter ball. That was saved for the adults lol. Once the kids settled down and got acclimated to the surroundings, it calmed down a bit. The shoes and the games were completely covered by the hosts. Sometimes in the past especially on a weekend it's hard to get a lane cause of leagues. I didn't notice that today, it seemed like anyone off the street could come in and just bowl. I had to take a break so I hit the bar. I think others wanted to as well but didn't want to be the first, after I did others followed. Full bar from Top Shelf Liquor to a array a different beers. Off the bar is pool and billiards room. Nice space with a Jukebox if you want to call it that, it plays CD's and a couple of widescreen TV's. The Bartender was very nice and quick! You ordered your drinks you had them within a minute! I wandered around as much as I could to get a break before my wife wondered where I was. Ok I'm back now just in time for the food to arrive. All the food was provided by them, chicken fingers, wings, mozzarella sticks, pizza, fries, an Italian hero sandwich cut into small slices. The food was very good which I was surprised at. When I was last there it wasn't very good. Everyone was especially impressed with the wings. Pizza was crispy which for me personally is the way I like it. I didn't get to try the mozzarella sticks or fries but my wife said they were good as well. Our son got tired of bowling so I walked him around for a bit. Of cause he spotted the Claw Game, or whatever you want to call it. $2 and you don't stop playing till you get a prize. Of course he got 4, if I had more singles on me he would have kept going. That occupied him for about 20 mins which was good. We went back for a little more bowling before it was Cake time. The room where they served the cake wasn't small but it wasn't big enough for the amount of people there. Once again I was off with our son walking. We found the arcade at the other end of where the party was. Again a nice open space with plenty of games to keep a kid happy. There was new games and old school games it was nice. Some of the games though you could tell had to be either fixed or replaced. They flat out didn't work. My wife and daughter had cake while I entertained our son, my wife gave my goodbyes to everyone. Where the arcade was located there was an exit exactly where our car was. I of course took some last minute pics and we were out! It was a nice afternoon a little crazy at times but all the kids had fun!! In the end that's what it's all about!! read more

I have been going to Bowler City since I was a young girl. It's nothing fancy. It is what it is: a bowling alley. The employees are friendly and polite. Recently I was here for a company outing and the employees came to clear off the balls since no one else did. They saw I was trying to help out but they told me to relax and they got it. So nice. The only downfall is that it is a bit older. Some of the balls, I couldn't even tell what poundage they were. The shoes were definitely newer. And the television screens were a bit hard to see sometimes. Otherwise, I'm still a fan. I'll still keep coming here since it is my neighborhood bowling alley. read more

This is my go-to bowling lanes in NJ. it's not the fanciest or the highest quality place, but it's really great! prices aren't bad, and they usually have great deals most nights of the week after around 9 or 10pm. the house balls aren't bad at all (most of them) and the lanes are well oiled. In other places, it's not oiled enough or TOO much. but here, it's consistent and good. some nights, however, (like weekends), the wait can be long. about 30minutes. but the food isn't bad and there's a small arcade inside too. there's a White manna (burgers), ice skating, and more nearby as well. read more

They have awesome deals MON - THUR MON - WED currently is $2 a game per person after 10pm Thur - dollar mania - $5 cover fee per person and $1 game I go almost on a weekly basis the staff is super nice and friendly. First off I'll never be coming here again and I would give this place 0 stars if I could. This is one of the more we'll known bowling alleys in the area and thought I haven't come here since high school I thought this would be a good place for a fun family night. Little did I know that I would be reminded multiple times throughout the night that this was definitely not the place for a family activity. The bowling and lanes were fine but the service was horrible and just about everyone my family and I talked to were rude. We stood in line to reserve a lane and get our shoes. The lady working the cash register said we needed a number ticket and when we asked how long it would take she said she didn't know and dismissed us telling us to take a seat multiple times shooing us away when there was no one else in line and we were simply discussing if we wanted to wait an undetermined amount of time to bowl. When she finally called our number we told her we wanted to bowl for 2 hours and that there were 4 of us she claims we told her 12 people when that number never even came out of mouth. It's ok if she had misheard us but she said it in a blaming tone which annoyed me. We then got to our lane and started playing. My 11 year old brother who has little to no experience of bowling was struggling to make any points so we asked for our rails to be put up but they claimed that they would only do it for ages 6 years and younger(which was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, what's the correlation between age and a person's bowling ability?) when my dad tried to argue against them mentioning he was only 11 the other lady who went around sweeping and handled the rails yelled at us saying only 8 year olds and younger could have rails(which was not the same age the other lady had told us). We were extremely unsatisfied by this service and rude and unnecessary attitude. I advise others to avoid this place unless you're absolutely desperate to play bowling and want to be exposed to the worst service. read more
