I have great things to say about Bowdie's Chophouse - Lansing. I was taken aback by how top tier the service was on a very unassuming Wednesday evening. I want to give a special shout out to my server Sarah and the bar tender (I forgot her name) who were so welcoming and friendly during my visit. The ambiance was low-key, but super friendly vibes. The chef even came out to welcome me to the restaurant and say thank you for coming. I was pleasantly stunned :) I had the Kansas City steak and half order of mushrooms - excellent! I was in Lansing, MI for one night only and the hotel host recommended this restaurant. OMG she did not disappoint me with this recommendation. The staff was extremely kind and helped me with making suggestions. The duck ravioli was delicious (the sauce was like warm) I would have preferred it hotter but undeniably good. I'm really sad because I think I make the best steak at home of course but this steak was the bomb. It was cooked perfectly. I asked for medium and they delivered. The pork belly in the Brussel sprouts was so tender and flavorful. The restaurant is a little small so I recommend making reservations. PHENOMENAL... but let me explain. I will start off by saying this place is tiny. If you try to walk in, chances are you will not get a table. I tried twice with no luck. I finally got in with a reservation and I was not disappointed. You absolutely must order steak here. Skip the sea bass or chicken and go for what they are known for. The Cowboy Ribeye was perfection. Juicy, seasoned beautifully, and so good that even though we ordered bleu cheese and horseradish sauce, we hardly touched them. Honestly, you do not need garnishes. To make the meal even better, try the Brussels with Pork Belly as a side to share. I could do without the pork belly, but the dish still worked really well. For a drink, the Nightcap was delicious and hit the spot. At first I was unsure, since the restaurant is small and the table next to us had a group of very loud business men, which made it hard to talk. That is the only reason I gave 4 stars for atmosphere. Thankfully they left early in our dinner, and the rest of the experience was wonderful. The service was excellent. We were told the steaks might take some time since they are large, but it did not feel like a long wait at all. I will definitely be coming back when I am craving steak. One of the best steaks I've had in a very long time. Cooked just right and had great flavor. I had the bone-in filet mignon. The wedge salad was huge and served with enormous bacon chunks. I had one of the seasonal deserts which was good, but next time I'll try the carrot cake which is always on the menu. It's a small, popular place so reservations are needed well in advance. We tried our level best as two people and only got 2/3rds of the way thru. Duck ravioli - very full of flavorful duck! The thick beschamel sauce was killer, tho. They give you so much sauce that we saved half of it to top our steak with and it was such a good decision. They offered bread, but who has room for bread when, you've got potatoes coming! High prices, wine list as long as a Russian novel, side dishes that would blow away a main dish anywhere else, Sinatra and Martin playing, and of course the cow that makes your evening Really nice menu with fantastic service. I'd rank the steaks here as some of the finest. We had the filet and it was thick, cooked perfectly and served hot. The plate was about 300 degrees hot. The crust was awesome as well as the texture and flavor of the meat. The ribeye was also cooked perfectly. Everything about the filet was the same with the ribeye. The scalloped potatoes were hot and the portion size was perfect for each of us. Temp was hot but the flavor was just average. Yes we would get them again but the shinning stars were the steaks. As a bourbon drinker I appreciated the fine selection of premium choices. Prices were a little steep but this place can command that since it is 1st class. Service was top notch. Our server was spot on with her suggestions. She made sure we were well taken care of. This is a small location, it's difficult to get in here but it's worth the grief. Amazing food. We always get steaks and sides along with wine/beer. It never disappoints. We have sat at the bar which is way small, so hard to get seats there. We have also sat outside. Very nice as long as there's no pot in the air. The service has always been top notch. Even outside, they are very attentive. It's pricey, so it's probably not a place you can go all the time. We sat at the bar and were celebrating my parents 50th anniversary. Rachel and Mathais served us. It was sensational. The food was absolutely amazing. We had cowboys and filets, smoked duck, shrimp cocktail and grilled Ceasar. It was out of this world. The service was the star of the evening. Quite simple of all the places I have ever attended and reviewed this may have been the best overall food and experience and it's not even close! From the amazing service making me feel like home (if home was a mansion with ten butlers and personal chefs) to the insanely delicious food! I ordered a roasted half chicken which if not in the proper setting I would have eaten down to the bone marrow. The lobster tail experience alone was worth the price of admission. The server brought it over then with two forks in one hand while the other had a baby knife he cut the tail out of the shell and prepped it with butter on another plate then served it to me!! Insane!! The only down side was the toast they gave in the beginning as their version of bread and butter. Otherwise there was zero part of the experience that was not perfect. Beware if parking out back the spots are weirdly angled and then the back entrance brings you through the actual back kitchen and you have to walk through a tight space to get to the front desk. My husband surprised me with dinner at Bowdie's for our anniversary. I never realized there was fine dining available right here in Lansing. The location was questionable (it's right next to Omar's), but the food and service was fantastic! They have a small indoor dining area with limited seating (I counted 7 tables and 2 booths) and outdoor dining when it's nice out, so be sure to make reservations. It's not a walk-in type of place. I ordered the Filet Mignon and my husband ordered the Cowboy Ribeye, plus we shared a side of Au Gratin Potatoes. The side is supposed to serve 3-4 but, as good as they are, don't count on it. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and they were very tasty. If you decide that you want condiments though, be prepared to pay for it. Horseradish and Worcestershire sauce will cost you extra. One thing that I found disappointing was that there were no extras, like there were no pre-dinner rolls or side soup or salad. You literally just get the steak and whatever side and beverages you pay extra for. They did surprise us at the end with a very tasty dessert to wish us a happy anniversary. The double fudge brownie with salted caramel was a full-sized dessert, and at no charge. It was a nice touch and an great ending to a lovely dinner. Throughout dinner, all the servers had stopped at our table to either bring us food, refills, or simply check on us. They were very attentive and super friendly. First of all any place with this many 5 stars is definitely a must go... and the Yelp community did not lie, the food was very good. I had a Manhattan with vanilla bourbon, which was well made. They use top notch liquor too probably... cause I was f'd up. The drink menu was extensive, many cocktails and wines. I also had the filet, shrimp cocktail, and truffle fries. The shrimp cocktail was great... the amount of horseradish in the cocktail sauce cleared my sinuses, just like I like it, and the medium filet was cooked perfectly as were the fries. This is a small spot with a smaller food menu, and they make the items exceptionally well, so just know you're likely to be paying 100 and up. Because it's a small spot, if you're sitting in certain spots you'll hear the convo of the folks next to you and it's a little tougher to walk in and sit where you'd like without reservations (including the bar), so you might want to make em if you're doing something special. read more

My fiancé and I had a wonderful dinner at Bowdies celebrating our recent engagement. This was definitely a treat for us as we would not come here regularly due to the price. The food was well worth it! Started with the Grilled Cesar and Shrimp Bisque. The bisque was phenomenal! The grilled Cesar was alright, nothing too special. We then had the Au Gratin Potatoes and ordered the Tomahawk steak for two. Both were fabulous and perfectly cooked. Both were truly amazing and very flavorful. Dinner, cowboy ribeye cooked medium and I have to say, they hit their mark. I tried it with their house horseradish sauce which was just ok, not spectacular. The steak truly didn't need it. Good char. Sides, Brussels sprouts and belly which were really good. Great environment has a speakeasy feel fantastic food you will pay a little bit more, but if this is a high end, dining experience, only complaint was for the wedge salad. I have lived in Lansing for about four years now so I was thrilled to finally try Bowdie's. Unfortunately I will never be returning. I had an important event to celebrate so I was excited for a fun evening. I made a reservation about a week in advance so I was not too excited when I was waiting for my table in a coat closet for about 20 minutes. When I checked in the hostess seemed very crabby and negative. I did not feel welcome at all. Finally made it to our table and things got even worse. For such a nice place I felt the service was awful. I think our server made it over to our table 3 times during our dinner. The few times he stopped by I felt rushed and did not enjoy my time. The food was good but I hoped for much much more. Such a disappointing end to an evening I looked forward to for so long. If you are considering dining here I would say please look elsewhere because the reputation does not live up to the experience. read more

Our made from scratch side were delicious....the steaks done to perfection. It was one of the two best steak meals I have been served. The wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We visited on a Sunday and was quite busy, but were served with a smile in an appropriate amount of time. If our waitress was overwhelmed, we never knew it. This place is nowhere near where I live, and yet we've made multiple trips up to Lansing just to dine here. It's that good. The filet is the best I've ever had, the goat cheese and shrimp cocktail appetizers always get high marks and the mushrooms and mac and cheese for sides are perfection.
