I was in Lansing, MI for one night only and the hotel host recommended this restaurant. OMG she did not disappoint me with this recommendation. The staff was extremely kind and helped me with making suggestions. The duck ravioli was delicious (the sauce was like warm) I would have preferred it hotter but undeniably good. I'm really sad because I think I make the best steak at home of course but this steak was the bomb. It was cooked perfectly. I asked for medium and they delivered. The pork belly in the Brussel sprouts was so tender and flavorful. The restaurant is a little small so I recommend making reservations. My drink was okay (but I'm heavy handed) so alcohol might have been in it. Lol I will definitely be back. read more

PHENOMENAL... but let me explain. I will start off by saying this place is tiny. If you try to walk in, chances are you will not get a table. I tried twice with no luck. I finally got in with a reservation and I was not disappointed. You absolutely must order steak here. Skip the sea bass or chicken and go for what they are known for. The Cowboy Ribeye was perfection. Juicy, seasoned beautifully, and so good that even though we ordered bleu cheese and horseradish sauce, we hardly touched them. Honestly, you do not need garnishes. To make the meal even better, try the Brussels with Pork Belly as a side to share. I could do without the pork belly, but the dish still worked really well. For a drink, the Nightcap was delicious and hit the spot. At first I was unsure, since the restaurant is small and the table next to us had a group of very loud business men, which made it hard to talk. That is the only reason I gave 4 stars for atmosphere. Thankfully they left early in our dinner, and the rest of the experience was wonderful. The service was excellent. We were told the steaks might take some time since they are large, but it did not feel like a long wait at all. I will definitely be coming back when I am craving steak. Come hungry because the portions are big. Highly recommended. read more

One of the best steaks I've had in a very long time. Cooked just right and had great flavor. I had the bone-in filet mignon. The wedge salad was huge and served with enormous bacon chunks. I had one of the seasonal deserts which was good, but next time I'll try the carrot cake which is always on the menu. It's a small, popular place so reservations are needed well in advance. Looking forward to going back. read more

Cowboy steak, 28oz, carved table side for you and they will leave you the bone, if you ask! Potatoes au gratin - basically potato pie. So good, so much! We tried our level best as two people and only got 2/3rds of the way thru. Duck ravioli - very full of flavorful duck! The thick beschamel sauce was killer, tho. They give you so much sauce that we saved half of it to top our steak with and it was such a good decision. They offered bread, but who has room for bread when, you've got potatoes coming! Service was excellent. We dined on the outdoor patio on a warm summer day, but there was plenty of shade at 6:30pm. It's *very* dark inside (but also cooler, of course), so choose accordingly. I like to be able to see my food read more

Tiny spot with a great crew, bang up food and balanced cocktails! The headfake lemon cello martini is icy, bright and sweet- & goes down a little too easy! The wedge salad is served ice cold with Smokey lardons and a tangy house made blue cheese dressing. The shrimp cocktail are large, poached perfectly and served with spicy house made cocktail sauce. We enjoy the ribeye steak cooked medium rare and carved table side-hands off, tender and buttery. A fantastic local gem serving high quality meals, we enjoy dinner at Bowdies often. read more

I simply adored this place! Now to be clear I'm a sucker for this kind of steakhouse. High prices, wine list as long as a Russian novel, side dishes that would blow away a main dish anywhere else, Sinatra and Martin playing, and of course the cow that makes your evening Really nice menu with fantastic service. The dining room is small so be sure to make reservations and bring your Visa card. A true destination in our state capital! read more

I'd rank the steaks here as some of the finest. We had the filet and it was thick, cooked perfectly and served hot. The plate was about 300 degrees hot. The crust was awesome as well as the texture and flavor of the meat. The ribeye was also cooked perfectly. Everything about the filet was the same with the ribeye. The scalloped potatoes were hot and the portion size was perfect for each of us. Temp was hot but the flavor was just average. Yes we would get them again but the shinning stars were the steaks. As a bourbon drinker I appreciated the fine selection of premium choices. Prices were a little steep but this place can command that since it is 1st class. Service was top notch. Our server was spot on with her suggestions. She made sure we were well taken care of. This is a small location, it's difficult to get in here but it's worth the grief. They will treat you with a smile, your food will be 1st class and you won't leave this location unhappy. Don't forget desert. Just like everything else, nothing is bad. read more

Amazing food. We always get steaks and sides along with wine/beer. It never disappoints. We have sat at the bar which is way small, so hard to get seats there. We have also sat outside. Very nice as long as there's no pot in the air. The service has always been top notch. Even outside, they are very attentive. It's pricey, so it's probably not a place you can go all the time. But it's a definite must for a nice occasion. read more

Ambiance: subpar. Food: excellent. Service: very good. Price: Too high for the overall experience. This is a bad location, old and crusty inside, no waiting area, tiny bar. read more

We sat at the bar and were celebrating my parents 50th anniversary. Rachel and Mathais served us. It was sensational. The food was absolutely amazing. We had cowboys and filets, smoked duck, shrimp cocktail and grilled Ceasar. It was out of this world. The service was the star of the evening. Our servers were professional, personable, knowledgeable and funny. They took our experience to the next level. Kudos to the whole staff. I will recommend and tell my story to all. Great job and thank you so much. read more

Having gone to other Bowdie's locations, the only reason this isn't 1 star is because the food is so good. The restaurant is next door to a strip club, it's tiny inside, it's very loud, and did I mention it's tiny? Again - steaks are solid, can't go wrong. But location is a very interesting choice and the atmosphere is not relaxing at all. read more

Quite simple of all the places I have ever attended and reviewed this may have been the best overall food and experience and it's not even close! From the amazing service making me feel like home (if home was a mansion with ten butlers and personal chefs) to the insanely delicious food! I ordered a roasted half chicken which if not in the proper setting I would have eaten down to the bone marrow. The lobster tail experience alone was worth the price of admission. The server brought it over then with two forks in one hand while the other had a baby knife he cut the tail out of the shell and prepped it with butter on another plate then served it to me!! Insane!! The only down side was the toast they gave in the beginning as their version of bread and butter. Otherwise there was zero part of the experience that was not perfect. Beware if parking out back the spots are weirdly angled and then the back entrance brings you through the actual back kitchen and you have to walk through a tight space to get to the front desk. No reservation be prepared to wait for the bar. read more

Bowdie's sets the standard. I've stopped ordering steak anywhere else. Both the food and the staff are excellent.

Food was outstanding as was the service. Bowdies never disappoints. Deserts were fantastic as well

Best steak in the area, hands down. Just as good as the original location in Saugatuk. Great place for happy hour or dinner. Shrimp cocktail is the best I've had - ever love the wasabi twist. Highly recommend! read more

This is old school. My filet was cooked good and they have a nice wine list. Its small. The bar is tiny. Good salad.

Love this place Wedge salad was great and steak was impeccable. Looking forward to coming back.

I have great things to say about Bowdie's Chophouse - Lansing. I was taken aback by how top tier the service was on a very unassuming Wednesday evening. I want to give a special shout out to my server Sarah and the bar tender (I forgot her name) who were so welcoming and friendly during my visit. The ambiance was low-key, but super friendly vibes. The chef even came out to welcome me to the restaurant and say thank you for coming. I was pleasantly stunned :) I had the Kansas City steak and half order of mushrooms - excellent! I would certainly recommend a visit next time you're in Lansing. I recommend making a reservation. I was a party of one and barely made it to the bar. read more

My husband surprised me with dinner at Bowdie's for our anniversary. I never realized there was fine dining available right here in Lansing. The location was questionable (it's right next to Omar's), but the food and service was fantastic! They have a small indoor dining area with limited seating (I counted 7 tables and 2 booths) and outdoor dining when it's nice out, so be sure to make reservations. It's not a walk-in type of place. I ordered the Filet Mignon and my husband ordered the Cowboy Ribeye, plus we shared a side of Au Gratin Potatoes. The side is supposed to serve 3-4 but, as good as they are, don't count on it. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and they were very tasty. If you decide that you want condiments though, be prepared to pay for it. Horseradish and Worcestershire sauce will cost you extra. One thing that I found disappointing was that there were no extras, like there were no pre-dinner rolls or side soup or salad. You literally just get the steak and whatever side and beverages you pay extra for. They did surprise us at the end with a very tasty dessert to wish us a happy anniversary. The double fudge brownie with salted caramel was a full-sized dessert, and at no charge. It was a nice touch and an great ending to a lovely dinner. Throughout dinner, all the servers had stopped at our table to either bring us food, refills, or simply check on us. They were very attentive and super friendly. Food and service was top notch. read more

First of all any place with this many 5 stars is definitely a must go... and the Yelp community did not lie, the food was very good. I had a Manhattan with vanilla bourbon, which was well made. They use top notch liquor too probably... cause I was f'd up. The drink menu was extensive, many cocktails and wines. I also had the filet, shrimp cocktail, and truffle fries. The shrimp cocktail was great... the amount of horseradish in the cocktail sauce cleared my sinuses, just like I like it, and the medium filet was cooked perfectly as were the fries. This is a small spot with a smaller food menu, and they make the items exceptionally well, so just know you're likely to be paying 100 and up. Because it's a small spot, if you're sitting in certain spots you'll hear the convo of the folks next to you and it's a little tougher to walk in and sit where you'd like without reservations (including the bar), so you might want to make em if you're doing something special. read more

This place is an anniversary or special occasion go-to! If Mathias is working, see them! Absolutely amazing service & food!

I started with a dirty martini and the pour was weak as in half. I let it slide to not start off on a bad note. Appetizers were an order of shrimp cocktail and a crab cake. Both were truly amazing and very flavorful. Dinner, cowboy ribeye cooked medium and I have to say, they hit their mark. I tried it with their house horseradish sauce which was just ok, not spectacular. The steak truly didn't need it. Good char. Sides, Brussels sprouts and belly which were really good. The Au gratin potatoes were a miss and not cheesy at all. Very starchy and baked in a square then cut on an angle with cheese on top. Reimagine this one, you can do better. Overall, the prices were fair, drinks under poured but great steak. read more

We've been to most of the mid-Michigan steakhouse options, as well as some of the countries best in Chicago and New York, and yet we keep coming back to our favorite: Bowdies in Lansing. The steak is always perfect, and the side choices and cocktails finish the experience. Word of advice: if you leave here without enjoying their mushrooms, you've missed out! read more

My fiancé and I had a wonderful dinner at Bowdies celebrating our recent engagement. This was definitely a treat for us as we would not come here regularly due to the price. The food was well worth it! Started with the Grilled Cesar and Shrimp Bisque. The bisque was phenomenal! The grilled Cesar was alright, nothing too special. We then had the Au Gratin Potatoes and ordered the Tomahawk steak for two. Both were fabulous and perfectly cooked. We had the Bowdies sauce and the house-aged Worcestershire to go with the steak which was the perfect compliment. Paired with an espresso martini and a lemon lavender gin martini, everything was amazing! Service was top notch as well. Highly recommend for any special occasions! read more

Great environment has a speakeasy feel fantastic food you will pay a little bit more, but if this is a high end, dining experience, only complaint was for the wedge salad. I'd recommend Bowdies! Kudos to the chef for the galley kitchen his staff works in! Great job! read more

It's simple really. Bowdie's is the best in Lansing for fine dining. Cozy and authentic with perfectly prepared steaks and seafood. They even created a bespoke craft mocktail that I could enjoy alongside our brilliant dinner. Our server nailed it with his attentive yet unobtrusive, relaxed, and friendly service. Alaskan King Crab stole the show, but special shout out for the Ribeye and those incredible au gratin potatoes. read more

Words cannot describe the experience at this steakhouse in Lansing. This is had one of the best steaks I've had in Michigan. The steaks are well seasoned and cooked. You have to try the lobster bisque. It is very flavorful with chunks of lobster. I would say this as one of the best restaurants I've been to in a while. In addition the service was impeccable. read more

Bowdie's delivered an excellent meal. I have been to a lot of steak houses and this one will not disappoint. The restaurant is pretty small so you better call ahead to get a table. The appetizers and side are good sized portions so ordering a few for the table is a fantastic way to try a large portion of the menu. The shrimp cocktail reminded me of St Elmo's in Indianapolis it was delicious. The truffle fries were amazing! The steak selection has everything you would hope for from bone in cuts and large shareable portions. The presentation on the sizzling plate with the melted butter gave it a great flavor. All around great experience. Great atmosphere, wine selection m, service and food. read more

Fire! I randomly found this last minute while trying to figure out where to Uber for a late dinner. Turns out it's a 5 min walk from my hotel. Great drinks and food. I had the scallops, duck ravioli, and 2 rounds of the Bee's Knees. Best layover business trip meal EVER! Call ahead to reserve a table bc it's pretty cozy. It's next door to Omar's (gentlemen's club) if you like that sort of thing. Still classy once inside here though. read more

Our made from scratch side were delicious....the steaks done to perfection. It was one of the two best steak meals I have been served. The wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We visited on a Sunday and was quite busy, but were served with a smile in an appropriate amount of time. If our waitress was overwhelmed, we never knew it. The restaurant was clean, the restrooms were charming, but the dining area was very small which made us slightly claustrophobic. We were informed that they were going to move to a more spacious location. Other than the limited space, we enjoyed our experience and plan to revisit soon. read more

Everything was amazing. The service was impeccable highly recommend the lobster mac & cheese.

This place is nowhere near where I live, and yet we've made multiple trips up to Lansing just to dine here. It's that good. The filet is the best I've ever had, the goat cheese and shrimp cocktail appetizers always get high marks and the mushrooms and mac and cheese for sides are perfection. We've gone to their Lansing, Saugatuck and Grand Rapids locations and service has been spectacular at all three. Can't wait to return. read more

I have lived in Lansing for about four years now so I was thrilled to finally try Bowdie's. Unfortunately I will never be returning. I had an important event to celebrate so I was excited for a fun evening. I made a reservation about a week in advance so I was not too excited when I was waiting for my table in a coat closet for about 20 minutes. When I checked in the hostess seemed very crabby and negative. I did not feel welcome at all. Finally made it to our table and things got even worse. For such a nice place I felt the service was awful. I think our server made it over to our table 3 times during our dinner. The few times he stopped by I felt rushed and did not enjoy my time. The food was good but I hoped for much much more. Such a disappointing end to an evening I looked forward to for so long. If you are considering dining here I would say please look elsewhere because the reputation does not live up to the experience. read more

NEVER HEARD OF THIS PLACE. HOWEVER: 10,10,10!! My compliments to Kevin, the waiter and lead Host, who found a place for us on a busy night. This place has only about 8-10 tables...it's quiet and quant. Simply decorated with a very simple menu. STEAKS: 5 choices. The best you can get. Salmon, chicken and maybe one other main item. Great shareable sides, great apps, and OUTSTANDING drinks. The OLD TRADITIONAL ONES and some crafty ones. I had a filet. PERFECT!! It was outstanding. Didn't need sauce but I got some. We had 4 filets at 4 different temps and each one was absolutely perfectly done. SERIOUSLY: perfectly done. That never happens! Very very much appreciated. I love this place because they know what they do well and stick with it. I want to go back with my guys and get the TOMAHAWK STEAKS!! ( giant steak with the bone in it).. Again.
