Amazing 37 page wine and beverage list that has received awards from Wine Spectator FOR YEARS. The filet, halibut, burrata and truffle risotto are all out of this world, rack of lamb, molten lava cake and sticky toffee pudding equally amazing. Top notch service, as you would expect. This restaurant has been around for decades because the entire second to none experience is stellar and consistent. This is what baby restaurants aspire to be when they grow up. One of the best restaurants in the US. read more

I came here for my bday lunch and omg I was blown away. Valet parking available in the front for $20. I was greeted by hostess in the front. She was very nice and asked what I was celebrating since I was alone. I told her my bday. The building looks small but is spacious and opens up. Has a French cafe/ restaurant vibe to me with the decor. So I was seated at a table that gave a clear view of the kitchen which was cool. My waiter was nice and attentive. He also acknowledged it was my bday awww I felt special. It's hard being away from family across country alone so any little gesture helps. Sooo I was hungry so I ordered several things. I started with the prawns. Man they were juicy big and I like the sauce on it. The greens under it tasted like the had just picked it outside and literally put it on my plate. I ate it all. Next the calamari. Again fried to perfection. Fluffy not greasy has some peanuts in it which was a nice surprise. I like round calamari , all pieces were round I hate when they just bring out the whole Octopus makes me feel like I need to be reported to peta or something Lolol. Now the entree. The waiter made me giggle because I ate both of those and still wanted Entree - he was like Oo you want entree too ? Lol yes sir. So I got the seared scallops with pomegranate risiotto. Man I dang near licked the plate. I wanted to asked for second helping Risotto was creamy flavorful and the pomegranate seeds were the perfect touch. And now the grand finale. Dessert hey it's my bday - I got two ! I got the pear tart and bbread pudding. They ground out a little candle for me as well. This was the best experience ever from start finish before I leave the bay I will come for dinner read more

I came here with my girlfriend for her birthday and we were excited to try it. She had come years back with her family and said it was really good. Unfortunately, the food was not that good. It was not cheap either and I don't mind paying that much, but it was not worth it. I don't know what happened but I won't be returning I ordered a steak which was bland and the sides were not very tasteful. The flavors were dull and did not stand out like when you try amazing food. The ambience was nice though. The staff was also nice. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

So charming, especially around the holidays. Great service and delicious meals. Good portions as well. Lovely for a date night.

Meat is not good here. We tried lamb, beef, pork chop, but nothing tastes good. Seafood and starters are fine though

This restaurant is AMAZING!!!!!! The food, ambiance, and the service are all amazing!!!!!!! We went here to celebrate my husband's birthday. We did the prix fixe menu which was $115/person. The appetizers were all great but I just want to say the scallops and hamachi crudo were to die for!!!!! I will definitely come back here for the scallops!!! For mains, I really loved the berkshire porkchop. It was very tender, moist and flavorful. It was divine!!!!! My husband had the hamachi and he said it was wonderful as well. For dessert, I had the molten chocolate cake and it was very gooood!!! We're already planning our return! LOL!!!! The servers/waiters were all great too! I highly recommend this restaurant!!!!! read more

While visiting my son in SF, I stayed one block from Boulevard, where he was taking me to dinner. The evening was perfect from the welcome to the dessert. Although at full capacity, we never felt neglected. One of the outstanding dining experiences of my life. read more

Let me start by saying, I don't normally like to give bad reviews, but I had such high expectations and was so disappointed in our dinner experience, I felt the need to say something. I had eaten here many years ago and truly enjoyed it, remembering how amazing the food was, along with the service. (The first thing we noticed is that the place has become a bit touristy with some of the diners wearing t-shirts and shorts.) I brought one of my dear friends here for her birthday, along with her partner and mine. She had never been so I thought it would be a special treat for her, especially remembering my last experience here years ago. I had specifically asked the front desk person to let our server know that it was my friend's birthday and it would be great if they could do something for her with the dessert, like many restaurants do. She assured me it would be no problem. Service throughout was ok, not bad, but our server felt a bit robotic. At one point, the server asked my friend if she would like another cocktail, she said 'no thank you' and he walked away. The weird thing is that my partner's drink glass was also empty, but he didn't bother to ask him if he would like another drink. The water and bread server came by at the right times with a smile, so that was pleasant. For the food, total disappointment. I ordered the wagyu beef tartar in a mushroom sauce. The beef was just ok, but it was sitting on top of what looked like a hamburger bun. My partner ordered the crab salad which I tried and was so unimpressed with whatever sauce it was in. The main course for me was the sturgeon which the waiter said was a good flavorful heavy fish. It was bland and tasteless. The main reason I ordered it was for the artichoke risotto (since I normally love risotto) that came with the sturgeon, surrounded by pieces of artichoke around it. The risotto was lukewarm at best (which is one of my pet peeves) and it was bordering on bland, so I added some salt and pepper (which I don't normally expect to do at a restaurant charging these prices). I don't know why there were pieces of artichoke surrounding the risotto, but they were not the hearts, and were certainly not edible. We were all hungry so we ate what we could. Dessert was just ok, but how can you go wrong with cake and ice cream? My birthday friend ordered one ice cream bonbon, so I expected they would have a candle or something for her, since I specifically asked earlier. The last straw for me was that when dessert was brought to her, they forgot to put a candle on it, to which I had to sternly remind the gentleman who brought the dish (not our server, someone else I hadn't seen before) of the special occasion; so they did end up bringing a couple more bonbons for her with a candle. One thing I know about my friend is that she normally likes to finish her meal, but this time I noticed that she didn't. That was a sign to me that she didn't really enjoy it either. I know she was just being polite by saying it was good and that she was full, but given the whole experience, I was truly embarrassed, as I was hoping she'd have a wonderful first experience at a place I had once enjoyed. The bill was almost $500, and at this price, I expect much much more, both in food and in service. Unfortunately, I won't be returning here anytime soon. read more

A little underwhelming TBH! But overall a fair experience. This restaurant is a classic -- it's been around for decades. I can appreciate that it maintained its classic furniture and decor, and especially loved the red-brick ceilings. As for the food, I got the corn soup which was pretty good. I tried some of the ahi tuna tartare which was excellent. Loved the taro chips. As for the main, it took 45 minutes to come out. Added on to the fact we were in the wine cellar (resourceful haha) so we weren't able to check on our food because we were blocked out from the waitstaff. I got the lobster & scallop risotto, which was underwhelming. The scallops were good, but my lobster tasted wet and fishy... and the risotto itself was way too creamy and rich. I was only able to eat half of it, and was drinking water excessively after. I felt like it was a little overboard on how umami it was that it didn't taste natural. I would give it another shot to try other items on the menu for sure! Perhaps the risotto was not my cup of tea. read more

This was our last stop before heading to the airport to fly home and I had high hopes as the reviews for this place were great, unfortunately Boulevard fell short for me. Everything on the menu sounded great so we decided to get a bunch of apps to share. The best dish for me was their shrimp tacos which was a special for "taco Tuesday", not normally on their menu. We ended up sending the lobster bisque back because it was simply not good. Everything else was just ok. Boulevard had a really nice wine selection and the service was impeccable. read more

The heirloom tomato and burrata salad was refreshing. The grilled octopus was flavorful. I asked for my pork chop entree to be cooked all the way. Though it was still delicious, it came medium well and pink in the center. My husband's lamb steak was very rare, when he asked for it to be cooked medioum. We had two desserts. The chocolate bread pudding with berries which was just okay, but the milky way bombe was really the bomb! Service was impeccable and the ambiance was wonderful! read more

Let me start with Boulevard had always been my favorite restaurant in the city. It was just a classic. Excellent food and service. And while the food is still superb the service is disappointing for the caliber of restaurant it is. They got rid of the valet, which when it is raining and you are wearing heals is a bummer, especially when you took the time to get dressed up. The server had to be asked to open our bottle of wine to decant and when we did the tasting they just assumed my husband should do the tasting rather than asking us who would like to taste. We ordered bread to enjoy with our appetizers and did not get it until we followed up on it and arrived by the time we were done with our appetizers. None of the mistakes were big--but disappointing for what this restaurant once was and again for the caliber of restaurant it strives to be. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary last month. It was a wonderful experience. Atmosphere: This place is dimly lit, perfect for a romantic evening. The gentle hum of jazz and other romance-inspiring sounds mask the murmur of voices chatting over their meal. The service: Our server was phenomenal. She was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and her timing was always perfect with the delivery of each new course. Menu: The wine list is daunting, plenty of options, and a sommelier to answer your every question or pairing curiosity. The food options each sounded amazing; we wanted to choose so much more than just 2 of the entrees! We ordered the duck, steak, and chocolate mousse for dessert. Every single bite left us wanting more! (We left full and satisfied though - it was just THAT delicious). Price point: Our meal for two that included a bottle of wine, appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert rounded out to about 350$ after tip. Definitely a "once-in-a-while" kind of dinner for us, but considering the special occasion it was certainly worth it. read more

Good experience, but not sure if I'd come here again. Started off the meal with the scallops and soft shell crab appetizers. The scallops were cooked very well, but I didn't enjoy the hard texture of the bed of beans/corn it came on. The soft shell crab was amazing and flavorful. Ordered the salmon and prime rib for the main course. The salmon was good, but it came with a green sauce that made it too salty. The quinoa mashed potatoes and vegetables that it came with were really tasty though. The prime rib was average, but came with the best cornbread I've ever had. Also ordered a peach and shortbread ice cream sundae and a cocktail with gin and white peach purree. Both were pretty good! Service was great as well. read more

LOVE this space! It has such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Don't forget to glance up at the ceiling. It is quite special. The food is gorgeous and so tasty. The servers are top notch. We ordered off the a la carte menu and had plenty delicious options. Took one star off because the prices are high for the portion size. read more

Boulevard is one of those classic restaurants where you know food will be always be good. Its located in the heart of San Francisco overlooking the bay bridge. My date and I came here on a weekday at 9:00pm and we got seated right away. This waiter came by, explained the menu and said we must try the pork chop since it's their signature dish. I am usually not a pork chop type of girl but figured it's their signature dish, so why not (lesson learned: be adventurous!!) OH BOY, it was one of the juiciest pork chop I have ever had. This is the exact description of the dish and it sounds very complicated. "Berkshire Kurobuta Pork Prime Rib Chop with wood Oven Roasted Calvados mutsu apple fritto, cold pressed apple miel, poppy seed spaetzle, half moon bay brussel sprouts & edwards virginia bacon. Deviled red kuri squash & roasted sage pork jus" My date got the lamb chop which was also excellent. It's cooked to perfection, chargrilled on the outside and pink on the inside. Since he was eyeing on my lamb chop, I had to offer him a piece even though I would love to hoard the entire pork chop. He tried a piece and instantly fell in love with it. For starters, we got the abalone pasta which was too salty for my liking. Texture of the pasta was great, abalone was well but it's just not for me. read more

Great spot with a well deserved reputation. They offer a very fairly priced 3 course with generous portion sizes. I went to celebrate my birthday. My desire when I celebrate is to have food that positively surprises me. Though the food at Boulevard is good, it did not wow me. We both felt underwhelmed. On my pork dish, they used underripe apricots (though they did use apricots that are newly and briefly in season). My partner complained that most plates (and elements) lacked flavor (she got the ravioli and the filet). The desserts were good but, again, not even close to outstanding. The service was terrific and attentive, if nothing but patient. Overall, Good, Not Great. I was hoping for great. read more

Ermahgerd. The bread, tho. Bread aside (so friggin' good) and ignoring the fact that it's a little confusing to include the word "bolognese" in a vegetarian dish, the food is top notch. Started with the burrata; wild arugula; and Lolla Rossa (lettuce) salad featuring orange blossom 'quats; Cara Cara (navel) oranges; date and walnut conserve; and Tunisian chili salt before moving on to a linguistically confusing and sensorily satisfying squashy-pasta-no-meat -in-it-bolognese-thing. All delicious. Only downside was service was...inattentive? Whole table would have benefited from a check back and more drinks. read more

I recently had the opportunity to stop in and I have to say that this place was fantastic! We ordered quite a bit from the menu, so I'll sum up what we tried and how it was received. The lobster ravioli - deliciously creamy with generous chunks of tender lobster. The combination of pasta, sauce, and corn was amazing. Tuna tartare - served with kale crisps, this was a light but welcome appetizer Scallops - so good, even the youngins at the table enjoyed them, perfect texture with perfect seat and soft delicate inside Risotto ball with ricotta and summer truffle - generous shavings of summer truffle punctuated this creamy dish, and while I don't normally care for ricotta, I thought it worked here Lamb - not gamey with soft and buttery potatoes that melted in your mouth, the lamb sausage and phenomenal yogurt sauce was a unexpected bonus! Can't wait to go back!! read more

I am overjoyed at the fact that my sister and I chose Boulevard as the restaurant to kick off our new year of fine dining. We started a tradition last year where instead of buying Christmas gifts for each other, we choose a nice restaurant that we have always wanted to go to and have a meal together there. It took us a month to get together, but we made it happen. We made reservations for 7:45 on a Friday and got there right on time. As if we needed a sign that we had chosen the right restaurant to celebrate at, there seated near the door was our legendary former Mayor, Willie Brown! I didn't bother him for a pic but I really wanted to! We were sat promptly and had a really nice, helpful server. The entire staff was very kind. We ordered the following: Starters: Dungeness crab over pasta - OMG. One of the highlights of our meal. I'm honestly thinking about going back very soon just to order this and a glass of wine. I love that they respected the delicate flavor of the dungeness crab by not overwhelming it with the other players in the dish. It was served in big lumps on pasta with a butter sauce and what I think I remember as bread crumbs. It was so insanely delicious, I'm sitting here trying to figure out when I will have time to get by again before it's off of the menu. White asparagus citrus salad - this was probably our least favorite dish, but not because it was bad. It wasn't the salad's fault, it was just unfortunately sitting side by side with that insane crab dish! It's on the smaller side and very bright and fresh. Entrees: Berkshire Pork Prime Rib Chop - served on a bed of various things that all just absolutely perfectly vibed with the pork chop. The things that I can remember being on the plate were broccolini, dates, spaetzle (!!!) and hazlenuts. There were some other flavors there that I couldn't identify. I actually didn't know what the spaetzle was when I was eating it, but I asked the server and he explained what it was and the preparation of it. If you have a chance to get in while they are still serving the porkchop this way, do yourself a favor and make a reservation nowwwww! I couldn't have been any happier that I chose this as my entreee. California Lamb T-Bone - Served with mushrooms, broccolini and onions. Absolutely fantastic, but if you are looking for a heartier more filling dish, go with the pork chop. My sister loved her dish, but confessed that she wished she had gone with the pork. Desserts: An espresso martini - Do you like espresso? Do you like alcohol? Do you love cocktails? Okay, great, then order this. Now. Hurry. I don't remember the exact name, but I chose a creme brulee that came with ice cream, profiteroles, chocolate cookies (I think?... the martini had gotten to me at this point) and nuts. This dessert was heaven in a bowl. Totally meant for sharing... or not. My sister ordered a bon bon and we died laughing when her little ball of dessert showed up compared to my giant dish of creme brulee and added treats. I was a nice sister and shared. If you haven't already deserted my review, due to the fact that I don't understand how to be succinct EVER, I will continue on and bore you with a fun fact. FUN FACT: I have lived in San Francisco for well over 10 years and Boulevard has been on my fine dining radar for about that long. I've checked many "must go to" restaurants off of my list over the decade but never made it to Boulevard. And now that I have experienced this place, I'm ashamed it has taken me this long. I think I was drawn to a lot of the buzzier restaurants over these years and I can say that quite a few have let me down. In retrospect, I regret not having used those dollars at Boulevard. With the closing of so many San Francisco institutions, us diners need to use our dining funds carefully, and patronize places that are doing things right. Boulevard has been around for a long time, and that says a lot. Their food was sophisticated yet modern. The atmosphere classy, which a lot of SF places aren't doing anymore. I plan to put my money where my mouth is and come back to Boulevard very soon. Don't make my mistake and wait a decade to enjoy this iconic San Francisco restaurant. read more

Wow! So glad we opted to go here for my birthday dinner while visit San Francisco. While you don't have to make a reservation, I suggest it. Between the two of us we split a half bottle of wine, salmon and seared pork. I can't help myself, I LOVE the Boulevard. I've travel all over the world and I accredit this place with the best Filet in the world. I know, I know... That's a bold statement but there is certain care and attention they take to produce a very high quality piece of meat. I love their starters and it is hard to beat the drinks and wine from their bar. When I go here I ONLY sit at the bar. I made the mistake of sitting at a table once and it felt very stuffy. The bar is vibrant and Patrick the Bartended is master a his craft. He's fun to talk wines with along with life in general. He's a busy guy so don't be too put off if he doesn't sit down with you for an hour. I wish I was at the Boulevard right now. read more

I am so disappointed in Boulevard... The service and the food. I have heard so many good things and it really fell below the bar. Service: not bad per say, everyone was pleasant enough. The guys filling the water cups were awesome. But for how much this meal cost, I expect excellent service. I came here with 4 people and we each paid about a hundred per person, including a $40 corking fee. Food: really subpar.... Apps- Scallops: very good, not amazing but I didn't regret it Tuna tar tar: nothing to write about, I would skip this ravioli: nothing to write about, but it was tasty and different Entrees- Sole: Not good. I didn't like this at all, it had no flavor. There were fried shrimp around it and that was tasty. I took a few bites and stopped eating it. Lamb: This was actually really really good. I don't even like lamb but I was impressed with the flavor and the cheesy nochi. Desserts- So the desserts were actually impressive. I really enjoyed this, but too bad it couldn't make up for the tasteless sole. Bon bon Pofitato Chocolaté mixture of things Okay so... I was disappointed in the sole and everything else was subpar, scallops and desserts were good but not really worth the cost but it was yummy. I am mostly disappointed because 3 of us got the sole. 2 of our soles were fine and one was VERY BURNT. I mean it was blackened on the bottom. She told them and sent it back. They weren't very nice about it even though it was clearly their fault since we compared it to the other fishes. They made us feel bad that they burnt the sole. Then the rest of us were done eating by the time the new one came out... and the waiter said "yeah we had to cook it." LOL I am like I know you had to cook it. First off- I wish the sole wasn't burnt and I also wish it had taste. Secondly- mistakes happen, it is fine. But no one was that sorry and made us feel bad about it. Third- at least take an app or dessert off the bill if you made a mistake and now my friend had to eat her entree alone. By the time the new dish came, we were all done eating, plates gone. She ended up taking the whole dish home since everyone was done eating. But seriously.... someone could have been sorry.... The fish was clearly black on the bottom, I wish I took a picture. They did take off the cheapest thing we ordered, which was a $5 sorbet. At a restaurant like this, I expect not only the waiter to apologize but also have someone else come by and say sorry. NADA. I had plans to come here for my birthday and we canceled it. Deeply disappointed. read more
