I was always intrigued by Boulevard's classy and old time-y exterior, so I booked reservations for Mr. Joy's birthday once. It still took a while to get a table. While we waited around the bar, I did some people-watching. The dining area was dimly lit and intricately decorated in somewhat of a French-Louisiana style. Even though we were only a couple of minutes late, we weren't seated until about half an hour later. When we finally sat down, we were definitely ready to eat. Angus Filet - w/ sauteed spinach, mashed potatoes & corn, red peppers, & roasted beef jus: The filet mignon was excellently cooked to a nice medium rare, a little pink on the inside and quite juicy. It seemed a little on the small side. The accoutrements were also tasty. Kurobuta Pork Chop - apple fritto, apple miel poppy seed spaetzle, brussel sprouts, bacon, squash & roasted sage pork jus: Pretty good chop, I'd say. There was a lot going on with the sides, but the flavors seemed a little lost, with the exception of the double smoked bacon, of course. Perhaps I'm not a fan of spaetzle. Dreams Never End Bon Bon - rye whiskey & pear ice cream, almonds & cocoa nib: This dessert was overflowing with sweetness. Mr. Joy enjoys liquor-flavored sweets, but I find them to be too much for liking. The whiskey-flavored mousse was especially strong. The bon bons were the best part for me, because they resembled little bite-sized truffles. The meal ended with a birthday surprise dessert, so we definitely had our fill of sweets. It was a candle in what looked like a serving of semifreddo, accompanied with rolled-up crepe cookies, and a white chocolate rectangle, piped with "Happy Birthday!" It was cool and refreshing compared to the cloyingly sweet previous dessert. Service was excellent. Our server was very friendly, sweet, and chatty, albeit at times, a little too chatty. We left feeling full from the food and full of knowledge about the waitress's life story. Overall, the meal was great. The filet and pork chop were delicious, but I wasn't a big fan of our desserts. Compared to the plethora of dining options around, I didn't find the menu selections very unique or exciting, but that's not exactly an issue since they serve mostly classic dishes. read more

1st Michelin Star! Hmm, I wouldn't quite say it lived up to my expectations, but overall it was still a good experience. TIP: make reservations. We made reservations 3 weeks in advance and the only available time closest to 7pm for 2 were 6:15pm or 8:45pm. Crazy huh? ATMOSPHERE (5/5): Classy and old fashioned. I liked how the tables were nicely spaced out, white tablecloths, nice red lighting, romantic, even better if you sit by the big window facing the bay bridge. We came at 6pm when it was still bright out in the summer, so you couldn't really see it while eating. But after eating, it's walkable distance to go out and see the bay bridge lights for yourself. Better view outside anyway. SERVICE (4/5): Nice, polite, knew the menu, and did her job well. But, it wasn't anything spectacular. If i"m eating at a Michelin star restaurant, I expected the server to be excellent with a BIG smile on her face and extremely friendly to add to our experience. Service is surprisingly a significant factor to dining out. FOOD (4/5): Everything was good, nothing was bad. Average main dish were ~$37. *Choices of main dishes consisted of: 3 seafood: halibut, seabass, salmon 1 poultry: quail 3 red meat: pork prime rib chop, lamb, filet mignon Pork chop was better than the lamb. Pork chop was so juicy, actually really good (4.5/5) and the lamb was good as well but just not as tender (4/5). The sides included in the lamb weren't good either, but the pork chop had a sweet polenta that was also delicious. Definitely get that pork chop for its juiciness meat, though the sauce could be better. *Appetizers: BRANDADE IN THE SEA SCALLOPS! (4.5/5) That tiny brandade was actually the highlight of my whole meal lol. I had a taste of that and my taste buds and eyes were just enlightened. I had to ask the server twice what it was. It was like a soft potato full of flavor, and it tasted even better than the scallops. I still liked the scallops at Isa better. Scallops were good, the sauce was good and spicy, and that brandade, knew found discovery, was excellent. Fava Bean & Parmesan Raviolini (3.5/5) were like pot stickers with rich cheese inside. If you really like cheese, this is the dish for you. Eddie K loves cheese and said this was the highlight of his whole meal. For me, I liked all the different ingredients along with the raviolini to make it a dynamic dish, like the mushrooms, squash, and radishes, and the raviolini itself was good too, but I still couldn't get over the fact of how wonderful that brandade tasted. Wtheck is a brandade anyway?! DRINKS (3/5): I'm only rating based on the Moscato D'Asti, which was good, but holy crap that was the most expensive portion ever. It was in a dessert wine glass and wasn't even filled half way, and that costed $12...that kind of ridiculous. OVERALL: Nice atmosphere, good service and food. Would I come back? I'm curious to see how the seafood tastes, but if the highlight of my meal was the size my pinky and was an appetizer rather than a main dish, I think I'd rather go to another Michelin star restaurant. Michelin Star eh? I rarely seem to agree with that rating scale so a 3 star review comes at no surprise to me. 3 stars for food, 2 stars for value, and 5 stars for ambiance and service. Let's get serious though, you're all probably wondering how the food is. I spent quite awhile reading the reviews, figuring out what to order, and after thorough reading, I was not able to arrive at any conclusion except that the place was expensive. I decided to just play it by ear and ask for the server's recommendations when I arrived. This is one of those places you go to for your 50th anniversary, or take clients to for business dinners. And clearly, based on the clientele, this rule seems to hold true. I was a fan of the cocktail list, but I felt that they needed to be more stiff. The appetizers were weak. The scallops were good but very expensive, and the calamari with stuffed lobster was decent at best. I didn't even finish it. The lamb came out almost cold, but it was cooked perfectly. So tender you might mistake it for fillet mignon or something. Points docked here because I wasn't a fan of the sauce. It's thickened like 5a5's, and could have been tastier. I also split the porkchop, which again was perfectly cooked. This was definitely the winner between the two entrees, but didn't blow me away. For dessert, I INHALED the chocolate mousse cake. Make sure you get dessert. Overall, I was a bit unimpressed given Boulevard received 1 Michelin star, but I think it was still a good meal and a nice place to celebrate occasions. (Friday lunch review) We were in the area and thought we'd drop by for lunch. Hostess was very nice and seated us promptly even without a reservation. Cherry, arugula & camembert salad - refreshing! Cheese could melt in your mouth Kobe beef burger - good but I prefer Burger Bar's personally but the fries were excellent and even better than Bouchon's :) Brown sugar angel food cake & rhubarb crisp ice cream - give me more! Choco pot de creme - too rich for my taste Last but not least is the story of Scallops & shrimp risotto: Risotto came out nice and hot but scallops were cold and undercooked. Found a piece of shrimp shell in the risotto which was unpleasant. Instead of firing another order, they put the same whole plate in the oven. So my meal was hot alright except now every bite was dry and needed to be washed down with water. Must be my luck to catch their renowned kitchen on a bad day. March 7th had dinner at Boulevard been there several times, this night was exceptional especially the server. Our server was Madeline, incredible, started with a bottle of champagne and asked if we wanted wine glasses or flutes. Then she explained the menu to us pointing out the bisque and pork chop which is a signature dish. Madeline asked about allergies, myself cannot have grapefruit, pomegranate or any raw meat and seafood. She explained not all the ingredients are listed on the menu. Our amuse bouche was a carrot dip, mine was minus the pomegranate. We both ordered the crab bisque and was delicious, I had the pearl hen and my friend had scallops. Dessert was delightful, had banana cream with cookies and she had olive oil molten chocolate cake. Afterwards Madeline bought us two raspberry filled cookies. My boyfriend took me here for an early birthday dinner. 5 stars simply because: 1. Wonderful service! Our server was very accommodating for my food allergies and gave recommendations of what they could substitute instead. Thank you sir and to all the chefs! I worked in the service industry before and I know how annoying food allergies can be, so thank you for being so understanding! 2. Delicious food and wine. We got a bottle of the 2015 Nickel & Nickel Cab to with our Spanish Octopus, Lamb T-Bone, and Liberty Farm Duck. 3. Ambiance. It had an old school steak house charm to it. There was bar style seating by the kitchen where you can watch them prep too if you don't want to sit at a dining table or the regular bar. I think we were probably the youngest ones in there too. 4. They don't sing Happy Birthday to you! Lol, sorry, but I got enough birthday embarrassment from a restaurant the night before, so when the server brought out a bowl of sorbet with a candle and plaque with Happy Birthday written, I was like uh oh. And the Michelin-star adventures continue! I made Father's Day reservations a month in advance thinking it was going to be packed but it actually wasn't as busy as I thought. But still consider making one just to secure your spot. What I liked about Boulevard is their non-extensive menu. It was easy to choose what I wanted- meat, fish, or vegetarian. I opted to get the salmon and my party got two orders of the sea scallop starters so each person could try it. The scallops were awesome! They were slightly salty (as any seafood would be) but the sauce cut through it and added its own flavor. I am a huge fan of scallops and really, the only way to ruin it is by burning it. Like badly. As for the salmon, it wasn't really anything out of the ordinary for me. But what I was blown away by were my mom's lamb chops and my sister's pork chops. Maybe because my tastebuds secretly ran more towards dark, gamey meat that day but both dishes were phenomenal! Both were so rich, robust, and flavorful. I have to say between the two meats, the pork was a little tough but its not meant to be very tender. Nonetheless, these dishes were a hit! At the end of the night, my family and I split the blueberry ice cream and custard cake. It was a little light on the flavor; however, I did like the blueberry ice cream with the macaroon cookie garnish. It added a nice crunch to the dessert. Overall, great experience! I graduated from culinary school this past spring, and I remember hearing the restaurant "Boulevard" mentioned several times by the chefs and staff. I checked my bookmarks and didn't see it bookmarked, so I quickly bookmarked it! A few weeks back, my dentist, after hearing I graduated from culinary school, felt compelled to tell me his favorite restaurant in the bay area. He named Boulevard as his favorite. He's a big-time foodie and loves the fine dining scene, so my ears perked up to hear his opinion. Wow, I thought. I really need to make it to Boulevard soon. And so we did! Be forewarned, no valet - street parking can be a challenge depending on what time you go. Do your nearest garage research in advance. We didn't. :( Elegant interior, you'll feel better if you're not wearing a t-shirt. While our table was being prepared, we sat at the bar and my wife asked the bartender if he knew how to make a Whiskey Smash. He said he could. She asked for it extra sour and he said if she didn't like it, he would make her a different drink. Well, it came and it didn't appeal to either one of us. So he was good enough to replace her drink with something she was happy with. Happy ending, but coulda been ugly. :) Pretty simple menu, LOVE simple menus! We chose the: HAMACHI CRUDO (4/5) Elegant, little plate that came to our table with some fresh tasting yellowtail, garnished with shishito peppers, avocado and furikake. Refreshing and tasty. Another plate please. FRIES (5/5) We read in some of the Yelp reviews about the recommendations for the Truffle Fries. When we asked about them, the waiter told us that they no longer have them on the menu, but that he could bring us "regular fries". So we got the regular fries and they were not ordinary. They were served piping hot, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly enjoyed. Order the fries for sure. OVEN ROASTED DUCK BREAST (5/5) My wife's dish. She's a duck lover and I might even say a connoisseur of duck. She had nothing negative to say about her plate. Presentation was again, nicely done and all the small garnishes on the plate complimented the duck. ANGUS FILET (5/5) This steak was wood-fired and came perfectly "medium" - garnished with very thinly and beautifully sliced King Trumpet mushrooms. The mushrooms were delicious and there was also a golf-ball sized potato croquette that was pretty tasty too. The filet wasn't huge, but it was thick and it was the perfect amount for me, given the appetizers, bread and then dessert! The desserts were more de-constructed than I prefer, and I'm not sure I remember the exact names of what we ordered, but they were decent. I like rustic, hearty desserts - not dainty, delicate ones. These were a bit too pretentious for me - but they looked beautiful. I'd rather have a fresh-baked brownie with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. You get the picture. I might skip the desserts next time we come. The service was very good, the atmosphere would be perfect for a special occasion, a birthday, a celebration. It definitely felt like fine dining. I expected more. Mind you, everything was very good. Just not, jumping on the table shrieking "boo yah" good. Lobster bisque was EXQUISITE but here "bowl" means "demitasse cup." Be prepared. But you can sure tell that it's 100% handmade in house. I've never tasted better. I had the bavette. It was perfectly cooked and the garnish veggies were perfect. But there was no "wow this is amazing" moment. That being said, everything was done right from start to finish. Wine list. Exhaustive. And yet I had trouble finding something I wanted. Many people seemed to be regulars (and Republicans). Staff were very chatty with the regulars of which I was certainly not one. I was the ONLY person in the restaurant not wearing a collared shirt. By which I mean dress shirt style not a polo. This was at lunch. Do not underestimate how expensive it's going to be. I was there for lunch and was not extravagant and still spent more than on many a French dinner elsewhere. Finding the bathrooms is an enjoyable odyssey. You will need a map to get there. read more

Their new policy of forcing diners to order the $119 three-course dinner is horribly unfair and frankly a rip-off. Depending on what you choose, you will be paying between $30 and $50 for a tablecloth! You can order the same dishes at the bar or in the lounge from an ala carte menu for a much lower combined cost. But Boulevard does not post this menu anywhere on their website. Why, I ask? Because they don't want you to know the premium you have to pay to sit in the Dining Room. Give diners freedom! I absolutely love this restaurant for special occasions. I came here for my birthday and was greeted with a personalized card that someone on the staff hand wrote. This special gesture really made my day already before my meal even began. We started off with the tuna tartare which was delicious and is by far my favorite starter on the menu. I ordered the black truffle risotto and my boyfriend ordered the halibut. The risotto was full of flavor and had a generous portion of shaved truffles in it. The halibut was delicious as well and had very unique ingredients, including gazpacho. For dessert, we ordered a scoop of the boysenberry and strawberry sorbet. I would recommend the strawberry sorbet because it is refreshing and perfect after dinner. Overall, the food and service were both fantastic. I would highly recommend this place. read more

So I am now a cliche - long time listener, first time caller - and of course, had a bizarre experience and chose to share publicly. My family and I spent July traveling up the coast, with SF serving as our last stop. To celebrate the end of our long trip, we went out for a special dinner with two long-time friends. When our friends asked us where we wanted to go - our only demand was to eat Boulevard. BIG MISTAKE. I had gone a number of time when it was very popular, and loved it, but it had been a few years and clearly it had changed...Let me tell you why: First of all, it is expensive, there are no prices on the menu, and you are forced to order three course. Now, I am always in for a tasting menu, especially when celebrating....but this is not that - just appetizer, entree, and desert. More important, the food just is not great anymore. Everything we had - even their signature pork chop - is not that great anymore. In fact the pork chop was clearly overcooked. I could get into the other dishes, but wont bother - because the review is not about having only good food when we were expecting great. BUT HERE IS THE KICKER! When our bill came, we split the bill in half. One half on credit card, where I gave a 25 percent tip. The second half of the bill was actually paid for by our SF friends using a restaurant gift certificate. Sitting on the table was a 25 percent tip - in cash. Our waitress, I would assume looking only at the half paid by credit card - and not the cash sitting at the table - came up to my wife while she was going to the bathroom to actually complain about the tip! It was insane. Frankly, the challenge and the assumption by the waitress ruined our night. She was rude, aggressive, and imagine that this was like eating at an Applebee's and being served by an entitled teenager. I am all for calling BS, and believe we should all fight for what we deserve, but this is a service-industry - and at the very least the waitress should have gotten her facts straight before assuming the worst in us. So, if you want to spend well over a thousand for a dinner for four, eat good - but not great - food; and get incorrectly called out by your waitress - go to Boulevard. So before people jump in and say otherwise, and contend that the food is totally fine and fair, please know these are the facts. When I am spending that much for a dinner - I want to know that the food is great and inventive. Most of all, that I will not exit feeling the way the four of us left when we depart. I actually sent a private email to the management that night - never heard from them. The dinner did provide one thing for the four of us - it certainly was an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, the thing we will remember is not the food, but how we were treated. Considering the prices, its really not worth the risk, there are so many other great restaurants in the city. Boulevard might still be holding on as a great symbol of the great success of SF in the late 90s and early 2000s...but if you are going to food and service, it not worth your time. read more

This was a solid MEH. Made an 8:00 reso thru yelp for Friday. Got there on time but was told to wait on the side at the bar. From the door, the bar seats looked full. Bartenders did not greet us or try to help so we just stood to the side feeling awkward. Two more couples came in after us and were asked to wait but the bartenders shouted to them there were low bar seats on the far side (which we didn't see nor did they offer it to us, NOT SURE WHY... hmm). There were several side tables in the bar area all open but with signs saying they were "spoken for". When some of the bar seats near us opened, we sat down but were quickly uprooted finally after one of the nicer bartenders took notice of us (just annoying overall). The restaurant ambience is dim lit, warm and sophisticated. Food was good, not great. We had the octopus/squid ink pasta and scallops for appetizers. The octopus dish was delish and I could just eat that alone. Filet and pork chops for entree were tender and moist. Dessert was chocolate cake and cheese plate, which were average. We came for a bday celebration and they gave us a card plus put candles on my cheese plate. Felt like an afterthought and I would have felt the same if they did nothing. Many other actual Michelin star restaurants in SF that I'll go to next but just disappointed I wasted the opportunity this time on Boulevard. read more

I had a business lunch at Boulevard and just lucked into the place. My business partner and I were looking for a place to talk through some work and kill time ahead of our next meeting. We went into Boulevard and ended up with a great experience. I'm going to focus on one silly dish: beet carpaccio Yes, it's strange to think of, since it's not meat, but this was a great dish. We see beet salads all over the place now, but this was fresh in presentation, which was not only artful but utilitarian as well. The beets are sliced very thin and then laid in circle covering the whole plate with thin layers of oil and balsamic. Sprouts and radishes then grace the top. Check out my uploaded photo. Outstanding. 11:30 reservations on a Friday and was seated promptly upon arriving. The holiday decor was nice and everything felt luxurious but homey at the same time. Started off with the lobster and shrimp fritters and scallops. Both were amazing. I usually don't care for scallops but these were tender and definitely fresh as can be. The fritters were light and crispy. I wanted to try the tuna tartare but couldn't squeeze an extra appetizer for the three of us. Having seen it I would love to come back and try it I ordered the American wagyu burger and it came out perfectly medium rare as i ordered it. I think it needed to be a little more seasoned but other than that it was delicious. An extra $6 for fries seemed expensive but it was in line with Boulevard so can't complain. Crispy and potato-ey, everything you expect from some top end spuds. I also tried the pork loin cap and the risotto. The pork was some of the most tender meat I've ever had and the risotto and truffles you could smell from across the table. Both delicious. Dessert was the main complaint for me. After ordering a cappuccino and a butterscotch pudding the cappuccino took about 10 min to come and I was waiting for it before it came. After 10 min a small shot of espresso came out with no steamed milk. Because of the long wait I just drank it. The pudding was great, some granola and nuts really balanced it out and gave it a nice crunch. Highly recommend the pork loin and the burger if you want something simpler. read more

The chocolate dessert looked better than it tasted. Overall though, it was a great meal in a fancy old school setting with top-notch service, and I would not hesitate to return. I ate here a year ago but never got around to reviewing it till now, so the menu may have changed a bit since then. Nevertheless, I still want to give my five stars for Boulevard because it was one of my favorite fine dining experiences yet! I tried the wild boar and hand rolled pasta, roasted artichoke soup, Kurobata prime rib chop, Pacific seabass, and a few other things that I can't quite recall - but I do remember that every dish was delicious! Portion sizes were enough to leave me feeling full by the end. Service was impeccable and the ambience is perfect for a date or fancy dinner with family. There seemed to be a lot of businesspeople as well. There is an ample amount of seating, as well as a bar area, but it's a popular place so you'll definitely want to make a reservation. read more

Decided to come here short notice on a Thursday evening. We were able to walk in without waiting and were seated at the Chef's counter. We made it just in time to beat a middle-aged, statuess... Impatient couple to a table. It was about 7:30-8pm and the place was busy and lively, full of older distinguished couples enjoying their mid week date and sipping on wine. The ambiance is very cozy and warm feeling; it felt like Christmas to me when we walked in. I was so happy that we were seated at the chef's counter because we got the chance to watch the chef's prepare, cook, and plate the food. Very organized, non-stop work these people. You can see the hard work and care and concentration in the food that they put out. We were given a complimentary zucchini bread for taste and it was light and cleansing, easy on the palate. We ordered an appetizer of the foie gras. I can NEVER pass this up if it's on the menu. It was served with a sweet persimmon and whole wheat sourdough. Which the serving of foie gras was more generous (who doesn't, honestly) but I've had better foie gras elsewhere. I ordered the filet mignon with polenta done rare and it was cooked perfectly. Tender, red center, warm, and juicy. The spinach and polenta meshed perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the pork. I had a bite of the prime rib pork chop which was very thick and juicy. He LOVED it. I had asked the waitress to recommend a wine for me, I have a preference for sweet reds. I have a very sweet tooth. She suggested a I think it was a boulase? The downside of dessert wines, they are only 2 oz. pours. It wasn't my first pick but I wish she could have recommended something better. Well can't really blame her, not everyone is a sommelier or has a specially in wine selection. Man, I wish they had a Canadian ice wine on their menu. All in all. I love the ambiance. The service as good, we may have waited a little longer than usual I feel for our food to come but still came out in a timely enough manner. This is a great place for dates and formals. There is a prix fixe 3-course menu which starts at $119. There is also an ala carte which is available at the lounge and the bar. We came here with reservations, sat in the main dining hall and did the prix fixe menu. Given that there were mishaps which can be accounted to our reservation close to the kitchen closing - missing ingredient (which was readily fixed), running out of an offering in the menu, one halibut being overcooked (out of four other people in our party who got a perfect halibut), this place has great food and great service. This place deserve its many Michelin stars displayed in the hallway to the bathrooms. read more

The food was delicious. The pork chop was out of this world, simply amazing. All of the other dishes were very, very good. I just have two issues. One, I asked that something be substituted for the corn soufflé on the scallop dish because I cannot have dairy. Nothing was substituted. But the biggest issue was the wine service. I (female) ordered the wine. When the gentleman (not our server) came to pour it, he just opened it, poured some in my glass and then went immediately to pour some in my husband's glass without waiting for me to say it was okay. My husband put his hand over his glass and said no, the guy said "oh, you're not having wine?" My husband responded not until she says it is okay. He looked irritated and waited for me to sip and approve. I also asked for the cork which he had put in his pocket rather than on the table, which is customary. Also seemed irritated that he had to pull it out of his pocket. Then about five minutes later we watched him do wine service at another nearby table where the man had ordered the wine and he did everything correctly there. Hmmm, women aren't allowed to make such lofty decisions? Chauvinist much? I do also wish you could still order ala carte in the dining room. Our table in the lounge was fine, but not quite as nice as the dining room. Something about spending $400+ on a dinner in the lounge just doesn't feel right. read more

Good service. Food is also quite flavorful. I particularly loved the lobster bisque. My friends and I asked them to split the bowl in 3 so we could all have our own sample, and they were awesome about it. Service is on point and food good. Its always nice when a restaurant isn't overly crowded, and that's exactly how it is during lunch. We didn't feel rushed and the waitstaff was exceptional. I even got a birthday dessert treat. A week ago we dined at the Boulevard~ We were a walkin, no reservation and we (my daughter and I) were seated at the counter which was what i preferred, my daughter had never been to Boulevard and was quite happy about counter position and was looking forward to the experience.................. From here on it was all headed down hill ~ very sad as Boulevard is a SF mainstay i have enjoyed many a meal there and now can't imagine ever going back. Our server an experienced, middle aged women could not have cared less about us, Handing us our menus, mentioning what they were running out of, then asking what we might like to order for dinner, REALLY?? you literally just handed us the menu, alas she granted us a few moments to review the menu. She left then returned asking for our order, when asked she recommended the most expensive starters & main courses, (which we did not order, just on principle actually) took our orders, started to walk away I had to stop her to ask if we could order cocktails......her response, "Oh of course! would you like some water too? This IS NOT the service i am used to at Boulevard, as i feel sure no one else is either. Drinks arrived timely, starter also and dinner as well all brought by the food runners. She wizzed by to check on our meals and over to key in an order, and back for dessert order also delivered by another server, guess she was busy elsewhere. Then that was it, dessert dishes retrieved by a busser and for 23 minutes she wizzed by many times never stopping, the food expediter who i believe was a manger also just looked past us..... we were the last 2 people sitting at the counter, you couldn't miss us!!really quite irritating. I did FINALLY gain her attention after 23 minutes (did I mention this?) to ask for our check, that was delivered promptly, paid with cash & credit card which seemed to throw her off, signed the cc receipt left a 20% tip & left sooooo disgusted & angry on what should have been a fun dinner, turned sour like week old non refrigerated milk. The city of San Francisco has to many restaurants to tolerate this type of service, especially in this price range, if you prefer this type of food i would recommend Absinthe in Hayes Valley, quite DEEEEELISSSH and NOT near as arrogant in the service dept. read more

Review of Boulevard's private dining services: I hosted a private event here for work in Boulevard's private dining room and it was one of the greatest private dining experiences I could have asked for. Everything about it was wonderful and the staff helped our dinner into a spectacular night. Filled with an old school, classy SF vibe, Boulevard's downstairs private dining is separate from the restaurant. It gives you this feeling like you've rented out an entire restaurant with an intimate vibe. The room can be set up in a handful of different ways, and the tables are perfectly sized for about 6- to 7- guests. The food was pretty good. New American cuisine with a farm-to-table twist. It felt fresh and well done. I do admit that the desserts felt lackluster but it likely had more to do with the season than anything else. Boulevard has a good wine selection, though, the private dining has limited bar options. It worked out well since our crowd was more focused on the wine options available. The sommelier on staff has a great understanding of how the food matches with the bottles available. The highlight of Boulevard's private dining experience was the service. The service was five stars, completely attentive, and provided everything that we needed. I know, as one of the dinner's hosts, I walked in a requested a shot of espresso and was given a quality espresso in less than five minutes. (As the bartender had to go upstairs and prepare it for me while prepping for other guests.) It meant a lot to know that we as hosts were taken care of as much as our guests. Overall, if you're searching for a truly private dining experience (that can be considered with New York style fine dining standards), Boulevard is a top contender in SF. read more

A hidden gem. Food and service were great! I started with the Ahi Tartare, awesome presentation and great flavor. My husband had the Lobster Chowder, the process of pouring the soup onto the lobster was beautiful. For dinner, I had the Filet, cooked to perfection but the potatoes were a little spicy. My husband had the Pork Chop. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Huge wine list...my husband had a couple of beers and I had a glass of their Pinot. For dessert we shared a lemon meringue, it was just enough to complete our meal. Our server was very attentive and personable. Made our experience that much better! Oh la la Ladies and Gents... Get pretty and dine on pretty things. I am so lucky my husband decided to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary here. We honeymooned in Paris so this was quite fitting for the taste and senses of a year ago... You're taken in by the beautiful layout of the restaurant, the open kitchen lined with good looking people making delicious things. And who can complain about the view if you sit close enough to the windows facing the Bay Bridge all lit up on Embarcadero. We were greeted by a lovely waitress by the name of Jay I believe. We ordered our French wine, then stared at a menu that was perfect in selection but so difficult to pick. Folks, you will want everything on the menu. We settled for the lobster and sea scallops. If you're gonna go rich, go all the way I say. As for entrees, I went for the halibut and my husband had the quail. The plates were presented like a delicate piece of art. We returned those same plates back as if they were blank canvases without shame. The waitress reassured us that we were not the only people who ate everything on the plate, happens often there. (wink wink) By now we are full and happy.... until the dessert menu sneaks up. One can not pass up on such experiences and opportunities. We ordered the butterscotch pudding that was silky, smooth, and guided you into some sort of sweet bliss. Ahh we ate too much of just enough. Splendid indeed. I can't wait to go back there again..."First Wedding Anniversary" dinner was set high. Just confirms why I married him. We came here to celebrate a birthday dinner and the foods were delicious. I wish there are half stars and I would give them three and a half stars for foods and extra half star for excellent service. Our waiter was very knowledgable about the menu items and knew them well. We ordered all of the appetizers on the menu (one of everything) and shared them. They were all delicious! My pallet was a bit overwhelmed by all of those foods. My favorite was the bisque and sea scallops. I had the prime pork chop for my entree, but we shared our plates. I think the pork chop could have been better. The Filet Mignon was a bit too dry and the swordfish was too fishy to my liking (I grow up eating lots of fish, and it is too fishy even for me) The risotto was the best! So creamy and tasty. Deserts were delicious too and pairing with a cup of cappuccino made it even better. The special lemonade was very good. We had the private dining room that could have fitted 14 people, and it was very nice as we had our quiet place. All in all, nice place to try a restaurant but I could have gone to a better fine dining restaurant. There are too many of those in sf. This review is updated for our second visit for a friends bachelorette party at the same wine cellar private dining room. I downgraded from 4 star to 3 because the food quality was not as good as my first visit. My friends were not very satisfied neither. My friend and I ordered the steak for both medium rare, mine was okay, but my friend's was overcooked to almost well done. We spent about $160 per person and we just thought it was not worth the quality and we could have gotten better food at another "fancy" restaurant. I am disappointed at my second visit. Awesome place to have a nice fancy lunch. The service was great, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was electric. I made reservations about a week in advanced and they only had limited amount of times and days available. My suggestion is if you really want a time or date, call in advance. The food was on point. I had the soup of the day, lobster bisque. Creamy and delicious. And for my main dish I had the wagyu beef! Sooo good! If you love steak, you have to try it. The only thing is it's served medium rare, but it was a lot more on the rare side. The service was fantastic. We were seated quickly and attended really well. The atmosphere is a little fancy so I wouldn't come here in tshirt and jeans. Overall it's a nice place to splurge. read more
