We really liked the ambience and the food. For 5 stars, I recommend they up the concept for some dishes, like petrole sole fish that was served with potatoes croquettes and fried shrimp, though the grilled fish was on a bed of sote spinach as the only vegetable. I believe the fried seafood and potatoes didn't do any good to the main fish. Also, profiterole dessert was nothing special, it tasted good but not a wow. Halibut was spectacular, pricey but worth it. Overall a nice experience. read more

This was by far one of my favorite places in San Francisco to eat at. It was definitely a memorable experience. We ended up ordering a lot of different appetizers and we shared all of them. You definitely must have the truffle raviolis. We ordered two orders of them because they are so good there's about 3-5 in order. Definitely try this place out. read more

We have been coming to Boulevard for the last 15 or so years and it has always been nothing short of amazing-- a go to for date nights, birthdays and occasions where we could always count on exceptional food and service. When our children were young the staff were always very accommodating and would let us order off the bar menu (hamburgers!) even when we were in the main dining room because their palates were not ready for the more sophisticated items on the menu. It was just understood by the staff and they were always very gracious about it (after all even with hamburgers for two children we were spending north of $500 with wine and the works). We had dinner again there as a family last night and I am saddened by the decline of food and also the service. When we arrived we asked if our daughter could order off the bar menu (like we have always done) and our kind server (who was newer) said he would ask the GM. Well the GM came over and promptly said that since we were in the main dining room we could not order off menu and had to order off the prix fixe because it was their policy. It was frankly very jarring and embarrassing for us because 1. She lectured us like we were all 12 years old 2. It felt completely opposite to what we have been accustomed to at Boulevard which was graciousness, sophistication and tact, and 3. We were about to drop a grand on dinner. All in all it kicked off a sour experience to a much anticipated evening for all of us. From the food perspective, it left much to be desired-- we were all surprised by how far the quality and sophistication has deviated from the previous years. The Dungeness crab appetizer came with the endive covering the star of the show-- the crab. The server had to tell me to look for it under the endive! The rest of the food was disappointing. My pork chop didn't come with the blackberry hickory syrup (when the GM came to see how we were doing I let her know and she brought a little jug out and suggested I add some salt and pepper to the pork chop too-- what?!?). And my son's pork chop basically tasted like brine. Boulevard is known for their pork chop and it is a long standing item on the menu because it's that good so it was definitely a huge surprise when both our dishes came out sub par. On top of it they forgot to bring out the beef bao my son had ordered for an appetizer until the main course. The bao was green and the shredded beef was dry-- don't bother ordering it because it looked as unappetizing as it tasted. Long story short it was a disappointing evening. The usual charm of special dining just wasn't there and neither was the excellence and refinement we had come to expect and love from Boulevard. Maybe it was just an off night for them and I am willing to give it another try-- but just with my husband next time because lord knows we don't need another lecture from someone who offered to add salt and pepper to my food. read more

First time I've ever tried the prix fixe 3 course menu ($119/per) and must say, it was a leisurely, delectable 'foodie' experience worth the splurge. You get to choose from a list of 'I would never think of these pairings' fusion treats to customize to your palate. I tried the "sea scallops crispy sushi rice, coconut & lime crema, finger lime & pomelo, avocado & sea beans" as a starter, which was just the right amount of flavor and texture...crunch oozing into soft rice flavorful light crema ....followed by the "Alaska halibut, crab & potato croquetta, golden beets, yogurt vinaigrette, baby red chard & spinach, potato puree" main and finished w/the cheese platter for dessert... Whole eve was about 2.5 hours, unrushed w/an elegant, special occasion ambience that harkened back to the old speak easy days (going down the staircase to the restrooms passing all those Michelin awards and James Beard signs was eye opening, and there's a golden elevator lift for those who prefer the full vibe) Good times and a perfect out of town entertainment destination for those who want a guaranteed yum. read more

Boulevard is an iconic SF restaurant and one of our absolute favorites, so during a very difficult time for local businesses, we've been looking for ways to support. This was the third night of ordering Boulevard's take away "kits", and we're struggling to pick our favorite meal. We've ordered the king salmon, petrale sole and lobster. Each dish was easy to assemble (pretty much just plating everything) and tasted like we were right there in the restaurant. Unbelievably delicious and easy! Fans of Boulevard know that it can be pretty pricey (you get what you pay for). I was so surprised that these delicious three course meals are around $35-$60 per person- an amazing price for the quality that you're getting. We're so glad that Boulevard is "open" for take away and we're anxious to continue supporting our favorite local restaurants during a really difficult time for everyone. Thank you! read more

My girlfriend and I wanted to have a light dinner on a Friday evening. Boulevard was busy understandably, but we were seated at the counter immediately (although we didn't have a reservation). I loved the ambience. It felt classy, but it didn't feel uptight. It was very lively without being loud. So, we were able to talk during dinner. The service was also excellent. Our waiter, Martin, was friendly and very knowledge. We just shared some appetizers. We both love truffles! So, we had to order the risotto with back truffles. They were very generous with the truffles, but the truffles were not very flavorful. For our "entrees," I ordered the Chilled Dungeness Crab, my girlfriend Abalone Milanese. The presentation of their food was impressive, but I thought all of the food looked better than they tasted. Don't get me wrong, they all tasted very good. It's just that they did not blow me away. It's pricy, but I would definitely come back when I'm in San Francisco next time for the ambience and their excellent service. ****************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful" so that I can improve my reviews. Overall, it was okay. I think it was too expensive for what you get. The atmosphere is pretty nice, with excellent service and it has the vibes of "old money" but the food was less than spectacular unfortunately. I think there are other fine dining restaurants with better food! But it doesn't seem to matter too much since this place is PACKED. --- We decided to come here to treat ourselves as we were heading somewhere nearby. There were a few of us and we got seated near the back. We didn't have a reservation and we walked in around 5pm and were able to pretty easily get a table after 5 minutes of waiting at the bar - but it did get packed pretty quick. The food menu was quite simple but their drink menu was complicated with a ton of options! We ended up getting two appetizers and splitting it - we got the Truffle Souffle ($25) and Seared Sea Scallops Little White Shrimp, Mashed & Buttered Parsnips Deviled Prawn & Parsnip Nage ($26). The truffle souffle was underwhelming it felt mushy, bland and soggy. The seared scallops were much better though, they were seared perfectly, super juicy and had great texture and the sauce was delicious! For my entree, I got the California Lamb T-Bone Wood Oven Roasted with Rosemary, Thyme & Confit Garlic - $44. Overall, it was pretty good - it was nice and juicy, had a savory sauce I assumed was made from the leftover lamb juices, and was a decent portion of meat, although it lacked much balance from the vegetables which were a bit bland. In the end, I probably wouldn't come back, they have great ingredients, mediocre execution but the atmosphere and service were undeniably excellent. For what you paid, I think you can get better food elsewhere and nearly as good a service. read more

My niece came in from out of town and wanted to take her Aunt and Uncle to a special restaurant and she chose Boulevard." The bar was so beautiful and the restaurant's ambiance was gorgeous! We were treated like royalty by the hostess and brought to our seat. We were given our drinks, that were delicious. The waitress was so attentive, friendly and gave us information about the menu, what was popular and then gave us time to decide. We were treated exquisitely throughout the dinner. I dropped my napkin and it was picked up for me and I was promptly given a new one! Once our plates were ready to be taken away, they were taken away promptly. A delightful older man came around with a variety of breads to try with rolls of soft butter. He was so incredibly friendly and was quite humorous, which added to our dining experience. We then ordered and it was a three course selection with a starter, main course and desert. Our drinks were filled promptly. I ordered the buttered Halibut with mashed potatoes and a fabulous fish appetizer (the first one on the menu). My niece ordered an extra from the menu with spaghetti and truffles and a fabulous sauce! My husband ordered the pork chop with starter lobster bisque. He would have liked the pork chop less medium and my niece ordered the Halibut with starter heirloom tomatoes. What fabulous meals. The deserts were magnificent and loved the coffee. They gave us treats all through dinner. Fabulous food, incredible service and a gorgeous ambience. A time to remember. Just go!!! read more

First I'm of all, I appreciate all the restaurants who accommodate last minute reservation. And just like that, we are in for a regular date night. This is a boujie spot, rules about going to boujie spot is that I have to try everything in case I go broke tomorrow and can't afford this. With that in mind, we marched on with our 4 course meal (no dessert cus we were stuffed) Bread n butter was cool, but the drinks are heaven! we both got the "jolly to the core". It's a holiday special drink, G 12 years and apple and lemon. Tasted like a fancy version of whiskey sour, but of course that much better! Caviar was off the chain with the little potato pancakes, we ate that in 1 bite, maybe 2, thought about sharing this and so glad we didn't! We got 2 salads, my man's salad with roasted beets was so good, it was very well balanced with each bite. However, my burrata salad was a little bland, actually very bland. Both of us end up adding salt and pepper. It was a waste of a piece great burrata and truffle on top. You can't even taste the truffle. The scallop here is to die for, yes only 2 pieces but that's just enough! I love scallops and we joked that this could be better than the ones we cook at home. It was crispy yet tender on the inside. So perfect! My man's favorite would be the ravioli. I like how they gave us an extra piece, knowing that we are sharing everything, what a nice touch we don't fight over the last piece in public. It was probably one of the best if not the bestestest ravioli I ever had. I will order 2 of these next time. Last course fried squash blossoms and halibuts. By then, I was 80% full, 90% tipsy lol but we don't give up, never! So we killed our last dish. I didn't taste his plate since I was full. But he said it was bomb, he kept asking me to eat the stuffing inside. I ended my night with a piece of well done halibut and black risotto! Yummmm! With an expression, and a bon bon, total came out to be 330 after tax before gratuity. Yay! read more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and it did not disappoint! I made reservations around a week prior because of last minute change of plans. We were lucky and was able to get a reservation at 7:15 on a Thursday night. We decided to drive there since it was a school night for both of us. They have valet, but it looked pretty pricey so we were lucky to find a different parking spot down the block, around the corner. When we arrived, they were setting up our table so we grabbed drinks at the bar. I really enjoyed my drink. It was fruity and not too sweet, I wish I could remember its name. Drinks cost about $16 each...which is expected in sf. We were seated at this cute little oval table where we were able to sit side by side. Then they immediately wished my boyfriend a happy birthday and handed him a card. We decided to order the tuna appetizer. It was our FAVORITE! We loved the bread that came with it and the flavors were delicious. Boyfriend ordered the pork prime rib and I ordered the lamb. These were the two suggestions that the waiter gave us after I asked him what he would recommend. I personally liked the lamb more than my boyfriend's dish. At the end of our meal, they surprised my boyfriend with a small birthday chocolate cannoli dessert. Overall, this place was a nice place to eat a fancy dinner or to go to for a special occasion. read more

What a fantastic experience! I went through Lori in reservations (she was very helpful & easy to communicate with) & rented their wine vault room for 12 people. This room has a minimum cost to use for all the food & beverages. We were given the 3-course fixe prix menu & each guest chose off that. Everyone enjoyed their meals as the food was varied, well presented & very tasty. Our lead waiter Deon was professional & efficient, yet friendly & helpful (as was all the waitstaff). He was discreet in letting us know we were below our minimum & suggested how to meet that minimum - we were thankful he let us know & for his advice. Can't say enough good things about Deon! We had a special evening celebrating a special event & thank Boulevard for all their work making it happen. read more

The food and service here was very good. $98 for a 3 course meal seems high especially since you cannot order a la carte which is a bit of a bummer. The halibut was very bland but all of the other dishes were tasty. The corkage fee of $50 per bottle for two bottles and then $75 for the third bottle is crazy expensive! $175 to open three bottles is a total rip off. If not for the corkage fee this would be a five star experience. read more

We've been coming to Blvd for years. From the time they served foi gras on their app trio, then having it banned, and back again. I have not come around to writing a review. Our favorite server is Sheena (Shaina?). We had the pleasure of sitting at her section for many birthday celebrations. This time around, we had Tim. He's definitely a seasoned pro. The service was flawless. We celebrated our 15 yr Anniversary. Blvd made it so special. They even got a chair for my DD 's otter, Odde. We usually order all the apps and an entree to share, family style. The Lobster and shrimp ravioli was my DD's favorite that we had to order another round. Scallops are my all time favorite! Amazing place in the city! For starter I had the steak tartare which is fair, and for main course the pork chop that is absolutely incredible! It was so soft, cooked to perfection, with a slightly "grilled" flavor, combined with the sweetness of the grape sauce. Absolutely delicious. For dessert the strawberry pavlova was also really good, right balance of sweet and citrus. The staff is super friendly too. Definitely coming back! read more

First review although I've eaten here many times going back to the mid-2000s...each time I've left satisfied although a little perplexed at not having been more excited about my experience and tonight was no exception. So why the 4 star review? The service has always been impeccable, it's one of the most - if not the most - beautiful dining rooms in the city, and the food has always been perfectly prepared...but not the most flavorful or ambitious. The crudo first course tonight was an absolute winner. The halibut was - again - perfectly prepared but the dish overall kind of blah. The tablespoon of sautéed spinach seemed an afterthought, the fried green tomato was out of place and the sauce utterly lacking in any kind of discernible flavor profile. I really wanted an interesting and unique vegetarian main but alas it was risotto, the ubiquitous go-to of restaurants that don't put much thought into vegetarian options. Overall I think it wouldn't take much more for them to elevate the menu by a notch or two and it could make all the difference. read more

Old school dinner spot. Wonderful food. This is the place where you want to bring you parents or your boss. Decoration: Heavy wood and gold - a 1920s feel. Great view. The restaurant is much bigger than you think. Attended the black truffle culinary dinner event. While the black truffles are more challenging to taste than the white ones the menu was still neat. Had the steak. Medium rare was done correctly. It did not fill me up. It's a giant piece of meat and a little something of something. Service: good Clean: yes Vibe: older folks, wealthy elite, splurging tourists Deserts were delish. My fave was the peach. The chocolate is super heavy. Prepare to spend quite a bit here. read more

Does Boulevard really need another review? Eh, why not give props to an elegant, 5-star experience. I'm all about that life! Can you believe that after 20 years of living in San Francisco, I'd never been to Boulevard? Shame on me. So yes, it's a little old and stuffy. Not really the hip / modern / cool experience, if that's what you're looking for. And not as modern as say, Spruce. This is a well-established, classic San Francisco institution that any and all major foodies need to experience. I will say that the crowd was kinda hit or miss. Some guests looked like they walked in right off the street, and some a little more serious. But I didn't hold that against them. First, it wouldn't be a 5-stars without fabulous service from start to finish. Servers are super well-mannered, exactly what you'd expect in a classy place like this. There's something to be said about a restaurant that can last this long in a competitive market like San Francisco, right? Service and food must be ON POINT at all times! Onto the food... Pretty decent menu if you're a vegetarian! At a place like this, I was expecting to see risotto or a "vegetable plate" on the menu as the vegetarian entree. But they had a delicious selection of salad, ravioli, and squash blossoms. The food is AMAZING. So fresh, so rich, so flavorful. I will eat that type of food anytime. And did I mention it was my birthday???? So for dessert, they hooked up a special lil b.day dessert :) What can I say...if you've been living in SF as long as I have, I hope that you're way ahead of me in the Boulevard experience :) read more

Went in with ethnically diverse group of folks. We had reservation - but there was snafu. There was an empty table in bar area. With room enough for all of us. We sat down. We were told that we needed to leave as the place was reserved (there was not sign on table) We were told not to come back to the restaurant. I've lived in SF my entire life and have been to Blvd before - have never been treated so rudely. Great breakfast quality food all around highly recommend this spot ever on the menu is amazing.

I've been wanting to come here for years and the holiday seemed like a perfect time. I give The Boulevard 5 stars for service and ambiance (especially for the holiday). But 3.75 for food in terms of value ($200 + per person). I think they have some work to do before hitting that Michelin Star. In terms of value for your $$$$, the plates were good, not great; quality somewhat inconsistent. It was a 3 course meal with an option to add-on. I ordered the Birkshire pork chop with polenta, brussel...it was cooked to perfection but the sauces needed more - somewhat bland. The starter (Lobster) was chewy; overdone but the cheesecake dessert was amazing (I wouldn't pair the fruit with it as it was dull). Overall great place for a date/significant other. Food inconsistent for value but the red wines were amazing. read more
