We had a great experience at Boulevard. The wine menu is terrific and wines reasonably priced. We love Grueners from Wachau Valley and they had a huge selection. Our server Constantine was very helpful and even took the time to explain the history of the building and the decor which made the evening that much more enjoyable. I really enjoyed the crab salad and my partner had the crudo to start. Then we shared the scallops which were done perfectly, not overdone in the least. And the beef was aged and delicious. We ended the night with the special olive cake with hints of rubarb and chocolate cake which were both excellent. This is an San Francisco experience not to be missed! read more

My favorite SF restaurant! I lived a few blocks away 30 years ago and admired the building. Then Boulevard was created. My friends and I were regulars in the 90's. Since then, every time in SF I visit . This week my 24 year old daughter, who was born and lived with me nearby before we moved away in 2002, was in town for a meeting when I was in town for a convention. We had dinner at Boulevard and it was every bit as special as I remembered. The food, service and ambiance were amazing. And the generous thank you email the next day was heart warming. My coworkers and I went here for a holiday team dinner. First of all, the decorations were amazing. It definitely felt festive and added to the overall ambiance of the restaurant. Secondly, the servers are so friendly and very accommodating. Lastly, the food tasted amazing but some dishes can be improved. We got the prix fixe menu but it's ultimately customizable to a certain degree especially if you're vegetarian/vegan. Anyway, I got the seared scallops for the appetizer and it's for my mains, i got the halibut which i think was a bit dry. Fishes can be tricky to cook. And for dessert, i got the molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream and it was heavenly will probably go back to take my husband here, but definitely this is a special occasion type of date venue. read more

I LOVED Boulevard! We made the reservation a couple months in advance on open table. Our reservation was in the lounge/bar area. The nice thing about being seated in this area is you have the option of ordering the set menu or a la carte. We opted to order a bunch of items a la carte and share and were really happy with our decision. Everything was delicious and service was fantastic. Highly recommend this place for an amazing food experience! We did a walk in on a Saturday night around 6 pm and were seated at Chef's table where we saw each food plate be beautifully crafted right before our eyes. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but it is presented as art. Before we were seated, we had a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar. I was already impressed by the place because I found my new favorite espresso martini- not too sweet and full of flavor. The Food: I said "Wow" after every bite Starters- We got the scallops and truffle ravioli. Definitely get the sea scallops as they were cooked just to the right point and had the sexy golden brown crust with a warm center and some delicious sauce on top (A+). The ravioli was equally amazing and melted in our mouths! Entrees- I had the halibut and my friend had the filet mignon. Both were spectacular and beautifully presented. My halibut was flavored to perfection and was served on a bed of greens. The filet was juicy and tender, and cut like butter. Dessert- The Tiramisu was recommended by our waitress and I was completely blown away by it. I have never had anything like it and applaud Boulevard for their take on this tiramisu with ice cream coffee topped on it. Overall, the service and food was on point. Our waitress was very attentive and personable. The food came out fast, but I did not feel rushed. The bar was crowded with patrons attempting to grab seat. That's how you know you're in the right place! My husband said that he had a hard time getting us drinks, but hey, it was a busy Friday night. He actually compared the wait to The House of Prime Rib, saying that the bartenders there are a bit faster than the ones here at the boulevard. Just thought I'd mention that because I found it pretty funny. Once we were sat down, the bill was still, unfortunately, on our table from the last guest. To be honest, my husband and I have never seen that happen before and we weren't expecting it to occur at a nice restaurant like this. Moving onto service because it was so busy there were high and low point. Overall everything was served to us in a pretty timely manner, and the staff was so attentive when they were with us. It is pretty much a three-course menu with optional added supplements. I had the scallops as my appetizer and I wasn't that impressed with the flavors. I forgot what my husband chose, but I remember liking his appetizer better than mine. For our entrées, he had the pork chop and I had the rack of lamb. I am very judgmental when it comes to my Lamb, and they knocked it out of the park. My husband loved his pork chop, and I had a taste of it as well. It was delicious, a tad bit sweet for my taste but good. We had the truffle supplement dish and for dessert. I can't remember what I ordered, but it had two different types of ice cream in it and it was delightful! We will definitely return. First time I've ever tried the prix fixe 3 course menu ($119/per) and must say, it was a leisurely, delectable 'foodie' experience worth the splurge. You get to choose from a list of 'I would never think of these pairings' fusion treats to customize to your palate. I tried the "sea scallops crispy sushi rice, coconut & lime crema, finger lime & pomelo, avocado & sea beans" as a starter, which was just the right amount of flavor and texture...crunch oozing into soft rice flavorful light crema ....followed by the "Alaska halibut, crab & potato croquetta, golden beets, yogurt vinaigrette, baby red chard & spinach, potato puree" main and finished w/the cheese platter for dessert... Went in with ethnically diverse group of folks. We had reservation - but there was snafu. There was an empty table in bar area. With room enough for all of us. We sat down. We were told that we needed to leave as the place was reserved (there was not sign on table) We were told not to come back to the restaurant. I've lived in SF my entire life and have been to Blvd before - have never been treated so rudely. I've been wanting to come here for years and the holiday seemed like a perfect time. I give The Boulevard 5 stars for service and ambiance (especially for the holiday). But 3.75 for food in terms of value ($200 + per person). I think they have some work to do before hitting that Michelin Star. In terms of value for your $$$$, the plates were good, not great; quality somewhat inconsistent. It was a 3 course meal with an option to add-on. I ordered the Birkshire pork chop with polenta, brussel...it was cooked to perfection but the sauces needed more - somewhat bland. The starter (Lobster) was chewy; overdone but the cheesecake dessert was amazing (I wouldn't pair the fruit with it as it was dull). Overall great place for a date/significant other. Food inconsistent for value but the red wines were amazing. read more

Boulevard has been a staple of the SF fine dining scene since before I moved here in 2002. The restaurant feels a little formal (white tablecloths) and it's frequented by the expense account crowd. I've had many good meals here when I worked in the financial district and I was happy to return here for Friday dinner as I was working through the SF top 100 list. I started with the Spanish Octopus as my appetizer. The octopus was cooked perfectly and came with black rice and smoked ham hock. This was a great way to start a meal. My entree was the lamb T-bone (wood oven roasted, medium rare and served off the bone). This was just excellent!!! A Virgin mojito was the ideal non-alcoholic pairing for this meal. The bread service was good. I ordered the baked hot chocolate for dessert. It was a warm flourless chocolate cake with caramel popcorn, paprika puffed sorghum, toasted Spanish peanuts, raspberries and chocolate peanut ice cream. There's a lot going on here and I think it didn't work. The cake itself was a bit chalky and the caramel popcorn was a bit too sweet. I'd pass on this one. Mint tea is always good with chocolate and I like the DIY tea kit they use. Service was excellent. With tax and tip, this was about $115 which is about average for SF fine dining these days. Highly recommended particularly for a nice business meal in the financial district. read more

When I was in my 20's, Boulevard was the place that my boyfriend took me for a very special occasion. We would dress up and be young and awkward in this fancy restaurant. It probably took a couple of paychecks to cover our meal, but it was well worth it back then. Now that I'm much, much older (but who's counting), going to Boulevard is still great for a special occasion, or just a really, really well executed dinner. My former boyfriend, now husband, took me here the other day and it was great to see that the place hasn't changed, and yet doesn't look old or stale. It's still a very nice place for friends and family, or for that power lunch or dinner. We sat at the chef's counter which is always exciting to me. I love watching meals being prepared and the hard work the cooks put into plating everything perfectly. Our servers worked wonderfully as a team, making sure everything from our utensils to drinks were always in place. While I loved my duck, my husband's steak was absolutely perfect and I wish I ordered that as well. The cook who was right across from me joked around about how cool it was being in front of the wood burning oven. We thanked him for how delicious the meals were. Its nice to know Boulevard still provides such a wonderful dining experience after all these years. I hope not to spend such a long time between visits again as I want this to be one of those go to places on my restaurant rotation. read more

For 5 stars, I recommend they up the concept for some dishes, like petrole sole fish that was served with potatoes croquettes and fried shrimp, though the grilled fish was on a bed of sote spinach as the only vegetable. My niece came in from out of town and wanted to take her Aunt and Uncle to a special restaurant and she chose Boulevard." The bar was so beautiful and the restaurant's ambiance was gorgeous! We were treated like royalty by the hostess and brought to our seat. We were given our drinks, that were delicious. The waitress was so attentive, friendly and gave us information about the menu, what was popular and then gave us time to decide. We were treated exquisitely throughout the dinner. I dropped my napkin and it was picked up for me and I was promptly given a new one! Once our plates were ready to be taken away, they were taken away promptly. A delightful older man came around with a variety of breads to try with rolls of soft butter. He was so incredibly friendly and was quite humorous, which added to our dining experience. We then ordered and it was a three course selection with a starter, main course and desert. Our drinks were filled promptly. I ordered the buttered Halibut with mashed potatoes and a fabulous fish appetizer (the first one on the menu). My niece ordered an extra from the menu with spaghetti and truffles and a fabulous sauce! My husband ordered the pork chop with starter lobster bisque. He would have liked the pork chop less medium and my niece ordered the Halibut with starter heirloom tomatoes. What fabulous meals. The deserts were magnificent and loved the coffee. What a fantastic experience! I went through Lori in reservations (she was very helpful & easy to communicate with) & rented their wine vault room for 12 people. This room has a minimum cost to use for all the food & beverages. We were given the 3-course fixe prix menu & each guest chose off that. Everyone enjoyed their meals as the food was varied, well presented & very tasty. Our lead waiter Deon was professional & efficient, yet friendly & helpful (as was all the waitstaff). He was discreet in letting us know we were below our minimum & suggested how to meet that minimum - we were thankful he let us know & for his advice. Can't say enough good things about Deon! Boulevard is an iconic SF restaurant and one of our absolute favorites, so during a very difficult time for local businesses, we've been looking for ways to support. This was the third night of ordering Boulevard's take away "kits", and we're struggling to pick our favorite meal. We've ordered the king salmon, petrale sole and lobster. Each dish was easy to assemble (pretty much just plating everything) and tasted like we were right there in the restaurant. Unbelievably delicious and easy! Fans of Boulevard know that it can be pretty pricey (you get what you pay for). I was so surprised that these delicious three course meals are around $35-$60 per person- an amazing price for the quality that you're getting. We're so glad that Boulevard is "open" for take away and we're anxious to continue supporting our favorite local restaurants during a really difficult time for everyone. Thank you! read more
