This is a super amazing restaurant- I highly recommend. You never really know what you stumble across while walking down the streets of San Francisco. I spotted this restaurant at the corner. Looked nice. We did not have any reservations. Decided to drop in anyways. The hostess and our servers were really friendly and found us a table. We sat at the dinner bar. Ordered two cocktails (forgot name). My boyfriend ordered salmon and I went for scallops. Both were SO delicious. We had an enjoyable spontaneous romantic dinner. Since it was my birthday a few days earlier the restaurant also gave a birthday cake with candle and such. It was a lovely evening. I'll be back! read more

I hosted a 10th anniversary dinner at Boulevard last night. We had a private room that seats 10. Eli was our waiter. What an amazing experience. The food as expected was amazing. Eli was on attentive, unobtrusive and friendly. If you are looking for a special place for an event, Boulevard continues to be top of the list for San Francisco. read more

My significant other and I ate at Boulevard to celebrate our anniversary. We made a note on the reservation that it was our anniversary and we were welcomed with a card signed by the staff congratulating us. It was a wonderful touch. Our server was extremely friendly and walked us through what I was able to eat with celiac disease. For the summer 2022 menu, I could eat almost everything! We both did the three course menu and it was totally worth it. I ordered the scallops to start, filet for my main course, and the chocolate cake for dessert. All of these items were already gluten free and didn't require any changes. Everything was incredible, cooked to perfection and full of flavor. I cannot recommend Boulevard enough. My significant other got the lobster ravioli to start, halibut for the main course, and the trio ice cream for dessert. I wasn't able to try the ravioli since it wasn't gluten free, but the other two items were and they were also incredible! If you are looking for somewhere to celebrate or just want a nice dinner, you have to stop by Boulevard. You won't regret it! read more

3.5 stars. Visited Boulevard for dinner with Mom on Saturday, June 25, 2022,...over twenty years since our family celebration in the downstairs WINE VAULT private dining room. Located on the corner of Mission Street and The Embarcadero in the historic Auddifred Building, the venue is elegant in decor and the hallways are adorned with vintage French posters, paying homage to the venue's architect, Hippolite d'Auddifret. With its stained glass double canopies, the open bar is like a stationary carousel, a main attraction beautifully lighting up the lounge. The dining room menu is prix fixe at $98 for three selections. Upon seating, we were served the chef's welcome bite which was similar to a remoulade with a couple each of potato chips, cucumber slices, and endive leaves for dipping. I enjoyed the dipping sauce so much that I finished it with some of the complimentary bread that we were also given. For STARTERS, Mom had the ARTICHOKE RAVIOLI & ROASTED PORCINIS which was a tiny serving, but delicious. I had the HUMBOLDT FOG GOAT CHEESE, BEETS & AVOCADO, a refreshing salad with nice flavours, but the truffle taste did not come through very well, unfortunately (a total bummer for a lover of truffles). For our MAINS, both Mom and I ordered the ALASKAN HALIBUT. Again, portions were miniscule. I get it, they are striving for fine dining plates, but I have had much more substantial entrees at other high end fancy establishments. The crispy panisse were chickpea fritters that resembled fried tofu, but were not as enjoyable as a fried soybean cake. In fact, I didn't eat them all because they didn't appeal to me...which is surprising because I do like chickpeas and eat them on a regular basis. Additionally, the halibut was tender, but, if you didn't eat them with the morels, they were flavourless. In sum, the main entree was a bit disappointing. To end our meals, Mom went with the CHEESE plate of FLOWER POWER & JEUNE AUTIZE - cute presentation, but I wasn't a fan of the cheeses. The star of my meal was my DESSERT, the SNOW ANGEL PEACH PAVLOVA. This was the first time I tried a pavlova and Boulevard's did not disappoint with its crunchy shell and chewy interior. The blackberries and peaches, along with the yellow peach ice cream, chantilly, and almond crumble perfectly complemented the sweet meringue and added extra layers of texture. Interestingly, the pavolova DESSERT was also huge in serving size, compared to the STARTERS, MAINS, & CHEESE. A delightful conclusion to my dinner the pavlova truly was - I highly recommend it! Service was excellent. I don't know if our server, Gabriela, is a sommelier, but she was spot on with her wine recommendations for Mom's request for something, "smooth, full-bodied, not too dry." I was not a fan of my TREASURE ISLAND COCKTAIL and she took it back and removed the charge on her own accord. I was also very appreciative of her descriptions of certain dishes and suggestions. Overall, Mom and I had a nice experience, but both agreed that we likely will not return...unless I come in just for the pavlova. read more

Lovely festive restaurant full of people celebrating the holidays. Prix fix 3 course menus. $125 per person. Very professional service. 4 diners. Over complicated menus with some courses non identifiable. Steak tartare was unidentifiable and escargots were not identifiable. Guinea hen raviolis were undercooked and needed cheese. Fish courses had too many veggies on the plate. We have been eating out for over 50 years and the wife has had professional training. To $500 add 8.6% sales tax plus 6% health mandate plus 20% tip and you have a rather expensive meal! Been here several times but probably won't repeat. read more

I was so excited when Boulevard reopened after a long hiatus, only to read that they were close to closing pre-pandemic! I love the new menu, I'm not sure I love the pre-fixe route with all the supplement add on's but whatever, let's see if it catches on. Pre-fixe is not required in the bar so that's good. The food and service were lovely. The ambiance hasn't changed at all from what I remember - a few new updated decor things but still a magical vibe. We had a wonderful evening. read more

We came to Boulevard to celebrate our friends one year wedding anniversary. We were very excited to try, as we have heard great compliments about the restaurant. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The food was mediocre and overly salty. Our server was missing most of the time. As she was cleaning our table she also poured salt on my dress because she was in a rush to take the plates from us. Ambiance is quiet nice, but still very loud. People was just talking very loudly and we can't even hear our own conversation. Parking for the restaurant is not easy at all. So if you plan on going make sure to alot time for parking. read more

Can I please be allowed to rate it 10 stars Tuesday 18 July, 2023 Cocktails at the bar followed by Dinner for 4 in the dining room. 1st off the entire scene is candy for your eyes ‼ carpeting, walls even the ceiling. Its all there to please you. Gorgeous upgrades while keeping the Ah-mazing glass n brass work. My fav. was the large floral print brocade used on the booth seating. Our lead server in the DR was Desiree. a gem her advice on food, maner at the table were all spot on. I enjoyed how she emphasized "thank you" when taking our orders.... and --almost shockingly--she remembered me from 8 years ago, when she was our server Many of our selected meal items are in the photo section of this post. If you are a softshell crab fan--which I Totally am-- this is a Fantastic dish. There were 4 of us n all 12 of our selections for 3 course price fix meal were different. Amazingly all 12 of the dishes we ordered were sublime. Service too, was sublime. At our table three of us drank champagne and the fourth ordered several cocktails. Everything about the alcohol service was on point as well as yummy. As one gal in our party, said the next day, "nothing taste good today after that amazing food last night" Thank you Boulevard--we will be back! read more

Boulevard is a great place to celebrate a special occasion, or even go on a fancy spur of the moment date night. The service is spectacular, and we've loved every dish we've tried. If you want to order a-la-carte, snag a spot at the bar. Our favorites are the soft shell crab, lobster stuffed squash blossom (seasonal) and lamb chops! We really appreciate how they gave us a card and dessert plate to celebrate our anniversary as well, made the evening feel all the more special! read more

Just a beautiful building, brick ceilings, gorgeous wood work throughout. Service is impeccable, they are on it from the moment you walk-in. Our waiter made some good recommendations, starting with cocktails for everyone. They do have signature cocktails to your everyday mojitos, yet done scrumptiously. The menu is such that it is set, you're picking out 3 courses: a starter of sorts, salad, melons, soft crab, maybe risotto, then a main from pork chops, filet, scallops or halibut & lastly a dessert, which you can change later if you decide. So our table did all of the above, plates were cleaned, so must have tasted yummy or we were all just hungry. Commentary - the melon salad had cheese, like spaghetti on top, for me not pretty. The scallop meal came with 3 scallops & their corkage fee is $50.00; a tad high priced all around, but then again it is the city? Would definitely try again & would try to remember to take pics os all the dishes. read more

Our server Dennis was so knowledgeable and gave us so many recc's to explore SF! The food was phenomenal!!!

We were really excited to come to Boulevard tonight as I have dined many times over the past decade. But tonight was a huge disappointment. We arrived a little early before our reservation and were sat promptly which was nice. After looking over the menu, my husband and I decided on two apps, two entrees and wanted to wait for dessert. The server told us we were required to pick our dessert right away and we couldn't wait. I thought that was odd. She then said it's required for the prix fixe menu. But no one informed us when we sat down that we were required to do the prix fixe menu nor did they let us know we could order a La carte if we sat at the chef's counter or at the bar/lounge area. The food was okay. Definitely not the quality I remember. The ravioli appetizer we ordered was 3 pieces and some sauce. Entrees were good but by no means mind blowing. We received our bill. $317 for two people. Apparently the prix fixe is $125 per person. My husband's whiskey was $20 something, 6% SF mandate and then tax + tip meant our bill was almost $400 for what was honestly a mediocre meal. The craziest part is, if you look at recent a la carte menus where the pricing is listed, appetizers range from $18-$28, entrees $52-$65 and desserts $15-$20. If a 3 course prix fixe is $125/person, tell me how does that add up? Even if I picked the most expensive entree at $65, you're telling me one appetizer and a dessert is $60? This place is literally operating like a scam and if you scan recent reviews, many people have said the same thing! We left dinner so disappointed. I have such fond memories of this place and we even brought our young daughter in. And now I can never recommend this place to anyone or justify coming back at the price we paid. If Boulevard is even thinking about trying to get a Michelin star status again, they are insane. There are way better restaurants in the city with better food that won't feel like a scam. read more

We came here a few weeks ago. I was excited because I'd read sterling reviews. The ambiance was great- really pretty, gorgeous decor. The food was good, not great. Everything kind of tasted like it had sat for a bit before reaching our table. The service is ridiculous. Here's the thing... this isn't a cheap place to eat. We spent over $1,000 for a table of four. Totally happy to do it- if the service was decent. Never were our previous course plates removed. Eventually I was stacking our old plates on the table to make room for the next course. I had to ask for a fresh fork at a certain point and got attitude from the person (not our server). Typically when you dine somewhere with this expectation (or a Michelin star) you expect your previous courses removed when you finish and a fresh fork for your next course. Needless to say there are way too many options to deal with that again. read more

On the plus side, it's a nice atmosphere, old school type of room which has a cool vibe, it's large, lively, although the location isn't anywhere great, no views or anything really. The service was excellent. Unfortunately it is outrageously expensive for what it is. We thought it was a normal type of a la carte restaurant, but it's a pre fixe three course menu for $120/each minimum, not including drinks, tip, tax, city surcharges, etc. So you are in for a very expensive dinner unless you're just sitting at the bar. And sorry to say, the food was nothing special at all. Very small portions. No one in our party was crazy about anything we tried. Bathroom is downstairs. No valet parking, no lot to validate in. We left feeling extremely ripped off on a special occasion. I guess we should have checked what their costs were ahead of time, but that's just sad that you have to do that. This is the type of place business people come to abuse the corporate card. The prices are inflated by at least 50-60% here. Crazy. read more

Highly recommend this place for an amazing food experience! We did a walk in on a Saturday night around 6 pm and were seated at Chef's table where we saw each food plate be beautifully crafted right before our eyes. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but it is presented as art. Before we were seated, we had a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar. I was already impressed by the place because I found my new favorite espresso martini- not too sweet and full of flavor. The Food: I said "Wow" after every bite Starters- We got the scallops and truffle ravioli. Definitely get the sea scallops as they were cooked just to the right point and had the sexy golden brown crust with a warm center and some delicious sauce on top (A+). The ravioli was equally amazing and melted in our mouths! Entrees- I had the halibut and my friend had the filet mignon. Both were spectacular and beautifully presented. My halibut was flavored to perfection and was served on a bed of greens. The filet was juicy and tender, and cut like butter. Dessert- The Tiramisu was recommended by our waitress and I was completely blown away by it. I have never had anything like it and applaud Boulevard for their take on this tiramisu with ice cream coffee topped on it. Overall, the service and food was on point. Our waitress was very attentive and personable. The food came out fast, but I did not feel rushed. Great dinner experience from start to finish and will definitely recommend for a classy night out. read more

Ambience and service were excellent. As experienced fine diners we can easily know when a great menu is executed well.... for sure this is not the case of this restaurant. I will say that our first course was delightful... squash soup and lobster lasagna. The main entree were filet and pork chop, both dry, culinary speaking bland and unimaginative, not to mention low quality. Finally the dessert was the ultimate insult to a $400 plus dinner. It is truly amazing to see reviews with 5 stars...I must say that can only reflect what people are used to .Personally I'm not willing to spend anymore of my hard earned money in this restaurant. I think is valid to point out that this was our favorite place to dine for 30 plus years.... After Covid it sadly never came back. read more

We had a great experience at Boulevard. The wine menu is terrific and wines reasonably priced. We love Grueners from Wachau Valley and they had a huge selection. Our server Constantine was very helpful and even took the time to explain the history of the building and the decor which made the evening that much more enjoyable. I really enjoyed the crab salad and my partner had the crudo to start. Then we shared the scallops which were done perfectly, not overdone in the least. And the beef was aged and delicious. We ended the night with the special olive cake with hints of rubarb and chocolate cake which were both excellent. This is an San Francisco experience not to be missed! read more

My favorite SF restaurant! I lived a few blocks away 30 years ago and admired the building. Then Boulevard was created. My friends and I were regulars in the 90's. Since then, every time in SF I visit . This week my 24 year old daughter, who was born and lived with me nearby before we moved away in 2002, was in town for a meeting when I was in town for a convention. We had dinner at Boulevard and it was every bit as special as I remembered. The food, service and ambiance were amazing. And the generous thank you email the next day was heart warming. It's been years since I had been here last and this was a trip with my family this time. I have to say, it was quite challenging to get in without a reservation - but thanks to my husband's perseverance and NEED to finally try this place, he was finally able to secure us a table upon walking in 15 minutes before official opening! Yay!! And we were SO GLAD he did!! Location: conveniently located across from the water , great views and easy to access! Across from Hotel Vitale and close to Ferry Building, too! Service: once you're "in" - it's terrific! Even when you're not, they're very polite! We started off with a brief, but very friendly wait in the bar area while they prepped tables. Bar tender came to us at the table (wow!) as we had our kiddos with us. Two Shirley temples and a couple of 'real' cocktails later - we were beyond thrilled! I can't recall the name of what I ordered, but it was a lovely, refreshing cocktail with Tequila and some type of blackberry! So delicious! As we waited, we previewed the menu, which was limited (only that it was not 22 pages long, lol) but it was still tough to decide as everything sounded tempting! We were shown our table as we received our drinks and served some tasty, fresh bread with whipped butter topped with a rock salt that gave the bread and butter just the right mmmmmm, that makes it so hard to stop eating and save room for your actual meal! Food: since it was hard to decide what to pick, we decided to divide and conquer - all order different dishes so we could at least taste a bit of each! Limited Appetizer, Lump Crab & Mushroom Risotto- by far my FAVORITE dish of all!!!! So creamy, delicious and full of fat chunks of scrumptious crab!! Real crab! Filet Mignon - juicy and tender, cut like butter Halibut - perfectly crisped on the outside, and flavored to perfection Pork tenderloin - also perfection in terms of flavor, tenderness inside and crispness outside Salmon - was my least favorite, but probably because I prefer my salmon a little more cooked. But presentation was on point. Desserts were also fantastic! Our 'sundae' was somewhat traditional, but no matter how full - it was irresistible! It was ALL good!! Is this something WE could do every day? No, it's pretty pricey on both the wallet and the calories. However, SO very worth it!! For a wonderful treat to yourself and family - OH YEAH! Special occasion or reason to splurge? Go for it! You deserve it!! read more

Dissapointing service, food, and loud ambiance. We were a party of 7 and didn't get a bite to eat for over an hour after being seated. Food was inconsistent and not anything special. Service was inattentive but inoffensive. It took forever to get the attention of our server and to get drink orders in. The amuse bouche (curry pumpkin soup) tasted like a trader joes curry and the last bite was a petit four that resembled a stale HoHo which really was one of the worst single bites Ive ever been served at any restaurant. It was too bad to open and close the meal with such terrible impressions when everyone had nice things to say about their main courses. Very disappointed in Boulevard. I work at Salesforce and during Dreamforce, I was not able to make a dinner dinner reservation because the clients I was bringing had a last minute change to their schedule. I called immediately to let them know I would not be able to make it, and they charged me $300. I have brought many clients to Boulevard over the years, and spent thousands of dollars. I will be sharing my experience far and wide, and again feel very disappointed by their punitive behavior. read more

Had dinner at Boulevard Saturday evening. I knew about the fixed price as well as the added 6% so no surprises there. Food was very good but a couple of things were off. Courses came out too close together so we had a feeling of being rushed. Maybe this happened because the restaurant was very busy, not sure. Service was ok but I would call it perfunctory. Also, we were never offered coffee/tea with dessert. I guess the server forgot? We weren't going to have any anyway, but still. Secondly, the servers are so friendly and very accommodating. Lastly, the food tasted amazing but some dishes can be improved. We got the prix fixe menu but it's ultimately customizable to a certain degree especially if you're vegetarian/vegan. Anyway, I got the seared scallops for the appetizer and it's for my mains, i got the halibut which i think was a bit dry. Fishes can be tricky to cook. And for dessert, i got the molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream and it was heavenly will probably go back to take my husband here, but definitely this is a special occasion type of date venue. read more

Boulevard has been a staple of the SF fine dining scene since before I moved here in 2002. The restaurant feels a little formal (white tablecloths) and it's frequented by the expense account crowd. I've had many good meals here when I worked in the financial district and I was happy to return here for Friday dinner as I was working through the SF top 100 list. I started with the Spanish Octopus as my appetizer. The octopus was cooked perfectly and came with black rice and smoked ham hock. This was a great way to start a meal. My entree was the lamb T-bone (wood oven roasted, medium rare and served off the bone). This was just excellent!!! A Virgin mojito was the ideal non-alcoholic pairing for this meal. The bread service was good. I ordered the baked hot chocolate for dessert. It was a warm flourless chocolate cake with caramel popcorn, paprika puffed sorghum, toasted Spanish peanuts, raspberries and chocolate peanut ice cream. There's a lot going on here and I think it didn't work. The cake itself was a bit chalky and the caramel popcorn was a bit too sweet. I'd pass on this one. Mint tea is always good with chocolate and I like the DIY tea kit they use. Service was excellent. With tax and tip, this was about $115 which is about average for SF fine dining these days. Highly recommended particularly for a nice business meal in the financial district. read more

I have had Boulevard on a list of restaurants that I've wanted to go to for a while. I finally got the chance to try the spot up with my husband this past. Our reservation was at 8:30 PM and it was buzzing in this restaurant! We had to wait about 10-15 minutes to get our table but it wasn't a big deal. The bar was crowded with patrons attempting to grab seat. That's how you know you're in the right place! My husband said that he had a hard time getting us drinks, but hey, it was a busy Friday night. He actually compared the wait to The House of Prime Rib, saying that the bartenders there are a bit faster than the ones here at the boulevard. Just thought I'd mention that because I found it pretty funny. Once we were sat down, the bill was still, unfortunately, on our table from the last guest. To be honest, my husband and I have never seen that happen before and we weren't expecting it to occur at a nice restaurant like this. Moving onto service because it was so busy there were high and low point. Overall everything was served to us in a pretty timely manner, and the staff was so attentive when they were with us. It is pretty much a three-course menu with optional added supplements. I had the scallops as my appetizer and I wasn't that impressed with the flavors. I forgot what my husband chose, but I remember liking his appetizer better than mine. For our entrées, he had the pork chop and I had the rack of lamb. I am very judgmental when it comes to my Lamb, and they knocked it out of the park. My husband loved his pork chop, and I had a taste of it as well. It was delicious, a tad bit sweet for my taste but good. We had the truffle supplement dish and for dessert. I can't remember what I ordered, but it had two different types of ice cream in it and it was delightful! We will definitely return. Alsoooo if you're in to Martinis they make an extraordinary cocktail called The ODB Martini. We immediately thought about Wu Tang and we like to think that's what they meant by the name. When I was in my 20's, Boulevard was the place that my boyfriend took me for a very special occasion. We would dress up and be young and awkward in this fancy restaurant. It probably took a couple of paychecks to cover our meal, but it was well worth it back then. Now that I'm much, much older (but who's counting), going to Boulevard is still great for a special occasion, or just a really, really well executed dinner. My former boyfriend, now husband, took me here the other day and it was great to see that the place hasn't changed, and yet doesn't look old or stale. It's still a very nice place for friends and family, or for that power lunch or dinner. We sat at the chef's counter which is always exciting to me. I love watching meals being prepared and the hard work the cooks put into plating everything perfectly. Our servers worked wonderfully as a team, making sure everything from our utensils to drinks were always in place. While I loved my duck, my husband's steak was absolutely perfect and I wish I ordered that as well. The cook who was right across from me joked around about how cool it was being in front of the wood burning oven. We thanked him for how delicious the meals were. Its nice to know Boulevard still provides such a wonderful dining experience after all these years. I hope not to spend such a long time between visits again as I want this to be one of those go to places on my restaurant rotation. read more
