My first time in Boulder and this seems to be one of the more popular places. They have indoor and outdoor seating but I recommend the outdoor if you can get it. There is a creek with rushing water and it's such a pleasant sound while dining. To start, I had the "Rainforest Iced Tea" and I can't say enough good things about this cold refreshing drink! I can't say I was completely familiar with the cuisine, so we started off with the Hummus plate which came with a delicious heaping of hummus along with soft, warm pita triangles, some olives and cucumbers. A very nice starter. Maybe I'm not very adventurous, so I stayed with the Spicy Indonesian Peanut Noodles and I had mine with chicken. Don't be concerned by the "spicy" part because they were not. There might have been a slight tanginess to it, but I would not go so far as to say they were spicy. But, I would definitely say they were delicious, fresh and hot. Overall, this was a delightful place to eat. Very good service, pleasant atmosphere and very good, fresh food. If you are visiting Boulder, this place seems to be one of those that should be near the top of your list. The Boulder Dushandbe Teahouse building is beautiful and learning the historical background to its creation was great. When you walk in, it transports you to somewhere other than Colorado especially on a cold snowy day. This tea room serves food at all hours of the day - breakfast, brunch, dim sum, and dinner. The website is a little hard to navigate and you can't really tell if you have to get reservations for the other services other than dinner. If you are interested in dim sum, definitely give them a call for a reservation. For their dim sum service, they pair a tea from a specific area with the course. The teas with our dim sum service were all oolong and were a light pairing with the food. I will say that if you are expecting REAL dim sum, this is not the place. The dim sum was very eclectic and most of it didn't leave an impression with me. I am not sure if I would come back again, as the food was not particularly memorable and I would be able to get these teas somewhere else. My niece wasn't feeling well, so she took the day off from work. She brought us to the Dushanbe Teahouse to get some tea, to help her feel better. We arrived on a Tuesday, about 11:30am. We had about a 10-minute wait. We were seated inside, in the corner. The ventilation system was moving the curtains that covered the floor to ceiling windows. It gave an effect of being in a tent. Tables have insets of tiles with symbols in them. Center of the room has a beautiful fountain with several 3/4 scale statues of women, surrounded with plants. Pillars are carved. Ceilings are covered with gorgeous tiles and patterns. It all gave the illusion of being somewhere other than Boulder, Colorado. Food choices are representative of the Asian/SE Asian/Middle Eastern/North African side of the world. I didn't mind! I asked for a hummus plate. Joe and my niece asked for pieces of baklava. Hummus plate had a few green olives, a few Kalamata-type olives, a scoop of highly-flavored hummus, a few triangles of warm pita bread, some cherry tomatoes, and a few slices of cucumber. I very much enjoyed the flavor of the hummus. It was smooth. I was disappointed to see the serving size of the baklava. They were small, maybe 2 bites, at best. Joe and I asked for an iced tea drink that had pineapple juice and a few other ingredients. It was delicious, when stirred. I also asked for a pot of oolong tea, to share with my niece. We were impressed with the fragrance and taste of the tea. Tea was served in a white ceramic teapot. I was brought a small sand timer to determine when to take out the tea leaves. A small ceramic dish was also brought to hold the strainer for the tea leaves. Our waitress wasn't really present. We waited and waited to get the check. Great ambience, good beverages, not too loud inside. Service was not what I expected it to be. I saw other diners get better service than us. This place is as good as it gets. My family and I came in this past weekend. We did not make reservations and only waited 15 minutes for a table during dinner time. The ambiance and atmosphere is beautiful. The river next to the outside seating is serene. Staff was extremely nice and service is top notch. The tea was perfect. We had ginger peach and peppermint. They were very tasty. I'd love to try more. The house chai is some of the best chai I've ever had. Just as good as anything out of India or Jordan or the UK. For dinner we ordered the West African Shoho and the Spicy Indonesian Peanut Noodles. We also ordered the Bakmie Goreng. All the food was wonderfuly presented and very flavorful. So much of the menu is delicious. I could have ordered several other dishes because they sounded so tasty. Beautiful interior but very cold for a wintry day. Too cold in fact. Sipping good chai tea helped warm us up. Hostess very kind and friendly but the waiter was rude and inattentive. We sat for 15 minutes without any service whatsoever beyond just water, and then server was curt and impolite. Also, some of the tables were beautiful decorated with table cloth, flowers, and table cloth and the others were bare. It was my first time there so maybe that's a different kind of reservation? But the undressed tables contributed to the cold feeling, along with the cold waiter. I'll try this location again in the summer and see if the vibe is warmer. read more

Wow. What a special and unique place in Boulder. Not only is the architecture beautiful and detailed, but the food and service was fantastic. We got there a little after 12 and we did not have a reservation. We were told it would be about a 30-minute wait. We were fine with that. A few minutes later, the hostess ask if we wanted to sit at the corner table (I'm sorry, I can't remember what the table is called), where it was no shoes, and we had to sit cross legged. Sounds fun so were said yes! I ordered the Golden Milk which was just a turmeric latte. So good. Highly recommend. For food, I ordered the Korean Pan-Fried Noodles. Very tasty. My husband got the Spicy Indonesian Peanut Noodles. That also was very tasty. The whole experience was cool. Service can be slow at times, but they are always busy. Try not to go if you are in a hurry. Sit and relax and enjoy the Dushanbe experience. I found this gem by googling "attractions of Boulder". I honestly didn't know what to expect, never would've guessed this would exist in Boulder but glad we were able to make it. I made dinner reservations for 6pm 2 week prior to travel. The day of, we hiked and were hungry and couldn't wait any longer. We arrived at 4:300ish pm and was seated. We ordered the Indian samosas, Swedish Tvamptoast, dandan noodles and a Jamaican soup and two tea. Between the tea and small plates, we were too full to try the dinner menu. The soup was nice and spicy, we loved it. The Swedish toast was a lot heavier than we expected and was soooooo good. The Indian samosas were good, with spiced potatoes filling. The Dandan noodle was a bit disappointing, it looked like leftover and reheated noodles from last night, mushy and broke apart (unsure if that was done purposely or not) but it wasn't my favorite. I had tea of the month, white Puerh, it was subtle and light. Good to pair with food as it doesn't alter any flavors. The service was good, the waiter was knowledgeable about his tea and the food. Let's start out with the good. The tea house is a historical and beautiful building; everyone can enjoy the architecture while dining. Our server was friendly and helpful with some suggestions. There were a few flies buzzing around our table and other tables nearby which wasn't ideal. The food came out in around 20 minutes and it was disappointing. The kookoo sabzi wasn't anything special and we wished there was more crispy rice, not just a few grains. The lapsang souchang bulgogi's cold noodles caught my friend by surprise and I didn't find the dish tasty. The Swedish svamptoast was the best dish but the toast could have been crispier. Came in on a Saturday afternoon- there was about an hour wait. I believe you can't make a reservation at a certain time but recommend checking their website to get more details. We were able to put our name down with no issues and since it was located near Pearl St and in front of the farmers market, we were able to walk around and check out the town while we waited! I absolutely loved the Tea House. It was like stepping into a different world. The ceiling is beautifully tiled in different colors. There are carved wooden poles that are as high as the ceiling. We grabbed seating at the bar to avoid the waiting list. Service was friendly and quick. We got lucky. There was a long line out the door, and we were quoted 45 minutes if we wanted to sit inside. Luckily, there were two spots that just opened up at the bar. We didn't have to wait at all. The main reason why I wanted to come here was for the beautiful teahouse itself. It is an authentic Persian teahouse with hand-carved and hand-painted ceiling, tables, stools, columns, and exterior ceramic panels. The food menu didn't really excite me. I felt like it was all over the place. There are dishes from many different cuisines. I went with the Lapsang Souchong Bulgogi, and asked for the bean sprouts to be omitted. It was light and tasty, but I did find a few bone fragments. Of course I had to order tea. There are over 80 tea options, so it was hard for me to pick. I wish they did tea flights. I went with "Lady Grey's Garden," which is a floral tea. It was nice, but I think I should've went with an iced tea instead. If I was to come back, I'll go for the tea only. The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse was one of the destinations I wanted to visit during our vacation to Colorado in June, 2024. When Auntie Ligaya found out about my interest in the restaurant, she immediately told Mom and me that she did not like the food here at all, but we still decided to check them out for Afternoon Tea on Monday, June 24, at 5 PM. This was a first time for Mom and me at Dushanbe but, like Auntie Ligaya, we don't plan to return again. Below is a synopsis of the reasons for my one-star rating, in list form by GOOD and BAD categories, for the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse. GOOD: There are a few positive aspects to report from our time at Dushanbe, but not many: 1. There is a lot with free parking adjacent to the tearoom. We didn't even walk for five minutes to arrive at the front door. 2. With carved walls, panels, columns and vibrantly painted ceiling, the interior is beautiful. They have a couple of corner Topchans, traditional raised platform seating often seen in Tajikstan, which are the best/most unique seats in the house. 3. I did enjoy the Blue Moon FLAVORED BLACK TEA; the hints of vanilla, almond and blueberry were a nice medley of flavours. BAD: Our experience with the Teahouse was a major disappointment from beginning to end. Below are the reasons why. 1. Attempting to make a reservation was a long and frustrating process. First of all, I called numerous times for a couple of days straight and couldn't get a live person to answer the phone. After leaving a voicemail, it took them about two days to finally return my call. A horrible first impression that was for sure. 2. The website's description of the sweets and savouries served for the Afternoon Tea Service is vague. They don't even list the types of mini sandwiches that they offer. 3. Unfortunately, the exterior of the venue was undergoing construction when we visited, so the front of the restaurant was covered in scaffolding. 4. Served dishware was dirty. I had to have one of my items replaced. 5. As my Uncle Frank commented, "food sucks." For about $25/person, the bites for the Afternoon Tea were unimpressive and the portions were skimpy. Mom, Auntie Ligaya and I were extremely dissatisfied by the underwhelming meal. 6. Service was no better. We had to ask to top off our teapots and were given lame excuses for the hard bits of undercooked rice in the rice pudding. I have been a true-blue High Tea/Afternoon Tea aficionada for many years, hitting up tea shoppes every chance that I can get, even during my travels. Truth be told that I was really excited to visit the exotic Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, but the experience turned out to be one of my most disappointing tea times. read more

One of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant happened here tonight. The server basically ignored us, we never got to see a menu, they had tea sitting on the table when we got there that was basically stone cold. The server did not explain how anything well at all. We did not get to even pick out teas. When the bill came it was way more expensive than it should have been. The only good thing was the atmosphere, the building is stunningly beautiful. I had not been here for a couple of years due to moving and life getting in the way, but a recent family event had me shuffling members all over the metro area, and I wanted to showcase Boulder. Therefore, with its extraordinary architecture and great overall vibe on a Farmers Market Saturday, the Tea House was a solid option. The wait was better than expected (an hour), and we were seated indoors within 40 minutes. The entire experience is made better by dining inside due to the spectacular detail in the building. It is truly a great setting. Great server and overall service, an Australian with fantastic interpersonal skills who has traveled worldwide. She didn't rush us and gave us good suggestions. I wish they had cola options, as some do not like sparkling water, tea, or coffee. I loved my Indian Samosas, a fried pastry of spiced potato, onions, and peas with mango chutney. Do not come here unless you have a good amount of time on your hands. We waited 30 min for our table on a Sunday afternoon and were excited to get seated. Afterwards, we had to wait another 30 min to even get our orders taken. This was not the waiter's fault, but more so possibly a restaurant management issue. Apparently the staff turned over during that time. We had to further wait over an hour to get our food. I'd strongly recommend to the management to look into hiring more staff or reducing the available seating if the kitchen is short staffed. I had my first high tea experience today. Shoutout to our wonderful server, Katie, who did a fantastic job guiding us through the experience! Make sure to reserve a spot at least 24 hrs in advance! The high tea for $27 a person includes 1 tea selection, a palate cleanser, and a 3 tier shelf of goodies. I split the house chai and lavender lemonade tea. The house chai is a MUST! Seriously the best chai I've ever had. Amazing hot or iced, and has unlimited refills. The lavender lemonade needed some sugar to make it more enjoyable. Everything on the 3 tier shelf was delicious minus the egg salad croutons, which contained way too much curry powder. The spinach artichoke pinwheels and scones were so buttery and good. All 3 cakes on top were to die for. I'd say it's well worth checking out this experience! read more

As widely noted the decor is beautiful. The tea menu selection is fairly broad. Some are true teas, but several are some form of herbal tea. I was impressed that they offered multiple puerrh teas. We ended up ordered 6 different teas each slightly different from each other. I would nitpick a smidge in that they only give you a single tea timer even though obviously different teas can have wide variations upon their recommended steep times. A different timer to reflect the different times would be nice, but understand the added logistics for the wait staff would be prohibitive and most customers wouldn't nitpick such a minor detail. I would definitely recommend reservations unless you come basically when they open or are perhaps willing to wait. We arrived 30 minutes after opening on a Monday and they already had customers at most of the tables inside. When we left later all of the inside tables were taken and saw someone that arrived shortly after that decided that the wait was too long. Unless you arrive in a lull between meals or arrive early I would expect a wait. They were a bit slow to get our initial pair of tea orders out to the table and I needed to repeat one of the later tea orders, but overall the service was good otherwise. Due to how busy they are I wouldn't really detract against them for that. The decor is obviously 5/5. It is one of more beautiful locations I have ever dined. The variety of tea is a 5/5. There are few places I have seen comparable tea selection. Whether you're a fan of black tea, green tea, white tea or herbal teas there is likely something for you to pick from here. A tea shop with such a diverse menu is rare. The thing that prevents me from giving it a 5/5 overall though is that the main course dishes seemed underwhelming from quality, variety of dishes, and quantity of food. I would generously say that the main dish options were a 3/5 honestly. Not terrible, but relative to the expectations surprisingly underwhelming. I ordered a Kabob for ~$17 that wasn't very flavorful. Many places I would expect 2-3x times the meat for the price point. If the quality was truly there I would accept the serving size, but it felt the quality was weak for the decor and quality of tea. The soup of the day, a tomato soup, which I ordered was merely ok, but nothing really special. The lunch menu seemed rather limited selection compared to the type of restaurant that I'm expecting to compare this against. While the tea menu is fairly exhaustive the food menu seemed rather limited. Considering the decor I would expect the food quality to be much higher, but it doesn't feel like it really meets expectations. It isn't terrible, but if you're expecting elite cuisine here it probably isn't the place. The desert options though were fairly good despite the main course options. I had the Apple strudel and some Amaretto and found both good. The nearby parking is a bit limited, which you should consider in your timing to get there. There is some outside seating that depending upon the day can be ok and there is a creek that is next to the building that can create a soothing sound, but I think the interior decor is part of the attraction. Overall, despite my criticisms on the main course options this place seems well worth visiting especially if you are a fan of tea. Even if you're not a tea fan the interior decor alone is a charming experience of you're in the Boulder area. I considered it a truly unique experience. read more

This place is such a gorgeous place to have a delicious pot of tea and share conversation with friends and loved ones. It would also be an awesome first date spot! My friend and I came without reservations. We are out of town visitors and stopped by just to check it out. We ended up sitting at that cool corner raised table with pillows. We felt like queens sipping tea in luxury. It was great people watching! The tea options are plentiful and there's something for every taste and palate. Exotic flavors to the old favorites. They will bring you hot tea but they'll also bring you glasses of ice to try your tea as an iced tea. It was really fun to taste the subtle difference between hot and iced. We also had the olive and pita bread appetizer. I can't remember if it was hummus or labneh but it was a nice little bite. I highly recommend this place. I was so excited to bring my daughter to this place as I've spoken about it many times in the past. It's been several years since I was last there, so the changes to the property weren't a surprise. Lots of Japanese beetles have made their home in the grape vines outside and it was sad to see the destruction. The interior was mostly the same and the water features were lovely to behold. Surprisingly the restaurant was crazy busy and noisy for a Monday evening. We were sat at a teeny tiny table beside the fountain and it's sound was nice to hear over the clamor of some of the other guests. The rest of our evening went downhill. Nobody ever refilled our water glasses and were slow to remove our used dishware. I did notice that most of the staff were on their cell phones a lot. The menu had lots of strange and mysterious items listed and their huge tea menu was overwhelming. We chose the Jasmine tea and were delighted in its extreme flavor. Our arugula side salads were pretty darn good and the fresh baked bread was incredible. My 3 oz. fish entree came out looking really small and only two shrimp were beside it on a bed of almost raw shredded vegetables. The sauce was very underwhelming. The fish filet was perfectly cooked but was so small that it was gone quickly and the two shrimp were overcooked. Darn it. My daughter ordered the $29 steak dish medium rare and it came out medium and was a poor cut of meat that she could barely cut it much less chew it. She kindly told our server and instead of actually listening to her, the server left and brought a steak knife. Trying to explain it better wasn't better so she flat out asked for a replacement of the chicken dish. It came out quickly but it too was far overcooked!! The meat was sooo dry that it crumbled!! Our server didn't care much about how dissatisfied we were with the food nor offered to have a manager come talk with us. I cannot recommend this place anymore. Sad to say that. Of course, the interior is breathtaking but to even sit along the creek outside gives the most fantastic ambiance. The staff is always friendly and they do their best with the longer wait times. Expect a 45 minute wait on a busy day. The food is wonderful and I would highly recommend going with people who love to share. Every dish is its own experience. Please make sure to let them know if you have allergies. Sadly, I am allergic to cilantro and didn't think to say anything before ordering an eggplant dish. Absolutely love the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse. Hands down the best date spot in Boulder. Make sure you put your name down as the wait can take up to 30 minutes. In the interim of waiting, you can walk across the road to explore the riverbank. The wait staff here is extremely friendly. I always make sure to pop in whenever in town. Their international menu allows diners to have a taste around the world. You'd definitely find something for everyone. I've tried their Lapsang Souchong Bulgogi and Malaysian Sambal curry.
