This place is AMAZING!! They have over 100 different flavors of tea, including some very unique ones. The breakfast menu also had a good variety of staples, unique items and classic items but with a twist. The history of this place and artistry that went into it will leave you awestruck. I got goosebumps sitting in there, looking at the ceiling and walls as my friend told me that it was all hand carved and painted! You would think a place like this would be super expensive but for tea and a breakfast entree, I got out of there for about $20, including tax and tip, which is basically unheard of these days. If you're in Boulder, you HAVE to come check this place out!
Me and my friend were in Boulder and came across Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse when looking up food spots, and loved it was even on the Michelin Guide! We loved how it was so unique and has cuisines from so many different counties. We ordered the Palatschinken as well as the Spicy Indonesian Peanut Noodles. Both were very tasty and loved being able to try something new like Austrian food. If you know what time you'll be eating, I would highly recommend a reservation. Me and my friend were walk-ins and had a bit of a wait, and the restaurant was very crowded.
Our friend really wanted to go here during our Colorado/Denver road trip. We made a point of making reservations in advance because of how hyped they were. This place has definitely lived up to the hype. The ambiance is amazing, and the service is excellent. I have never seen so much tea in my entire life, and each selection is top notch quality. If tea isn't your cup of tea, the cocktails are also pretty delicious. One of the best kabobs I've ever had. No further notes. Highly recommend people come here.
TLDR; beautiful tea house with very nice vibes and a wide selection of teas Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse is a gift from Tajikistan, a sister city of boulder. The entire teahouse is crafted and built in Tajikistan, carefully taken apart and shipped to boulder before being built up the same way. The interiors are beautifully painted and the walls and beams have intricate designs carved in it. There are plants inside and the overall vibe is very relaxing. They have a huge variety of teas, ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Indian, South American, Russian, English, etc. the staff are also wonderful and helpful in choosing what tea to try out. If you are a tea fan and in Boulder, this is a must visit location!
I have not try the tea, but came for lunch. And im not sure if their seasoning counts as comfort food. Its particularly not for me. All the seasonings had like some part of tea/herbal infused ingredients? Probably great for drinking but not for eating. Service is pretty busy. You can come and do self serve sitting outside otherwise need to reserved ahead of time. Good for trying once, but nothing more.
I used to treat Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse like a ritual; something sacred, almost. For nearly a year, I went every month, sometimes more, drawn in by the intricate carved ceilings, the painted tiles glowing with color, and the sense that every meal there was meant to be savored slowly, intentionally. It felt like stepping into another world. The food matched that atmosphere. Everything was carefully plated, balanced, and thoughtful. I remember dishes arriving like art, especially the Thai beef salad, always arranged in this precise, almost meditative X shape across the plate (picture is attached). It wasn't just a restaurant; it was an experience I genuinely loved. Then I left the country for almost nine months with my wife, holding onto that memory like it would be waiting for me, unchanged. Coming back, I expected comfort; something familiar and grounding. Instead, it felt like walking into a place wearing the same face but missing its soul. The food was, bluntly, disappointing. The chicken dish that once felt intentional and well-executed came out careless. The green beans were so undercooked they bordered on raw, snapping harshly rather than yielding to a clean bite, while the chicken itself was dry, stripped of any moisture or depth. The Thai beef salad, which I had looked forward to the most, was worse. The beef was dry and tasted burnt, with a bitterness that overpowered everything else. There was a massive, unrendered chunk of fat sitting in it--something that should never make it past a kitchen with standards. Even the vegetables felt neglected, cut into oversized, awkward pieces that made the dish physically difficult to eat, not just unpleasant. What made it more frustrating was how sloppy everything looked. This place used to pride itself on presentation, and now the plating felt careless, like an afterthought. That once-beautiful X-shaped arrangement was gone--replaced by something that looked like it had just been dumped onto the plate without intention. It reflected a bigger issue: a lack of care. The service didn't help. Our server barely checked in, leaving us sitting with dishes that clearly weren't right and no real opportunity to address it. For a place that used to feel attentive and warm, the absence of engagement was noticeable. What's hardest to understand is that the menu hasn't even evolved. With that much time passing, you'd expect some creativity, some refinement, but instead, they've reduced the quality of what they already had. They've even removed items, yet somehow still struggle to execute the remaining dishes properly. It doesn't feel like growth or change; it feels like decline. I don't know if it's new management, a different, less qualified chef, or something deeper behind the scenes. But whatever it is, the place I used to love isn't what it was. And that's the most disappointing part--not just that the meal was bad, but that something that once felt so special now feels careless and forgettable. I miss how delicate the food used to be, and I most likely won't be returning here until the standards of food improve.
Always a good time at Dushanbe! I've been here so many times and I will keep coming back. I brought a cousin visiting to Dushanbe and she absolutely loved it! This time around we tried the dolmas, samosas and the Malaysian noodles with tofu - everything good and fulfilling (I almost never have an entire order of vegan/vegetarian food when dining outside). I got the usual London fog and loved it! Dined indoors for a change - we stopped by at 8 pm on a Wednesday evening. The first time I experience no wait at Dushanbe. Highly recommend especially if you're a tourist visiting boulder - Dushanbe will add to your experience.
Took my wife and her mom here, and the price to ambiance ratio remains quite strong. Portions are quite large, extensive tea selection, and their espresso mousse is impeccable. Did I talk about the ambiance, beautifully ornate and tastefully decorated! In the summer they have nice outdoor seating and the tea house is located by the river. The shashlik and shoko are two items you must try more than once. Service is a hit or a miss.
Always magical coming here. Amazing history. Flavors are so well thought out and obviously everything the tea house it is so beautiful. Really recommend getting the samosas and getting a couple pots of tea to try. Service is great. It takes a little bit to get seating and eat but I feel it's 100 percent worth it.
They do not take reservations for brunch or lunch so there will be a wait. We arrived shortly before 1pm. We chose to sit in the area with QR code menus since it was open seating instead of waiting over an hour for inside. The full-service patio would have been a wait as well, but we could not be guaranteed shade and we had someone in our party that could not sit in the sun due to medical issues. We sat down and used the QR to pull up the online order feature. My daughter pulled up the menu on her phone from their website as the descriptions on the online ordering site were more like a list of ingredients on packaging that included everything. For example if a bread was listed it had all the ingredients that went into that bread. All of this was strung together and was difficult to read and pull out what was in the dish overall. My friend ordered eggs and toast. She flagged someone down for help as she could not select the type of toast, only to find out there is only one type available unless you need gluten free. It would be helpful if that was noted. I got the Mediterranean salad of mixed greens, hummus, dolma, cucumber, tomato, feta, olive, herb vinaigrette, and pita. The dressing was very light on flavor. The bread was half a pita cut into four pieces. Dolma and hummus were tasty. My daughter got the Volcan de Guanajuato. It was salsa verde, tomatoes, nopales, chorizo, caramelized pearl onions, queso Oaxaca, two eggs, and black bean tortillas. The tortillas seemed like they could be cooked more. They were bland. The chorizo was ok. However, the salsa verde smothering had some chile heat, a slight tang and no other flavor. She ended up eating one of the eggs and a piece of the chorizo, but the rest was not appetizing due to being flavorless. We each ordered a tea. They were ok when they did arrive. The table next to us had five people and they needed assistance with their QR code and ordering so we knew they ordered after we did. However, their drinks arrived at their table while we were still waiting for ours. Our food arrived and I asked about the drinks which still had not come. The waitperson advised he thought they would be out soon. It was literally just three iced teas from their basic tea list, no add-ins or special requests. This was on the pricier side. I expected that due to it's location. It is a pretty building. I doubt I would go back though.

Dushanbe Tea House is a beautiful place to grab some brunch. Despite it being busy on a Saturday, we arrived around 11 requesting a table for 8 people and didn't have to wait too too long. Although the interior was well decorated, I don't think there was anything "Dushanbe" related here. I got an eggs Benedict that was okay with the sarong lapchoung sausage. Definitely a place with a story and architecture to go with it. A very popular spot in the middle of downtown Boulder, Dushanbe Tea House offers many dining options from lunch, to afternoon tea, to dinner. We went for lunch and had a 30 minute wait. Once we got our table, service was fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. The tea menu is extensive and there are also tea cocktails available. There are several small plates and entrees of international cuisine to choose from. I decided to try the Smokin' Dragon cocktail which had a flavor that was a perfect fit for the name - Houjicha tea infused with mezcal, habanero agave, and orange liqueur. It paired well with my entree of saag paneer - a generous portion of curried spinach with Persian cheese and garlic naan. Not to be forgotten, all of this was enjoyed among the elaborate and intricate architectural decor. Carved wooden pillars reached towards the colorful painted ceiling. These were among white carved plaster panels with the Seven Beauties in the center. read more

We went for high tea which I had soooo been looking forward to. I wasn't super thrilled with the experience which was disappointing. When I called in to make the reservation, they asked if there were any food allergies or preferences. I let them know I don't eat cucumbers which they repeated back to me. The day of we arrived and sat near the front door which made for a very cold experience. The food platter came out and there were cucumber sandwiches. I let the waitress know our request and she went to get us an alternative from the kitchen. The alternative was a squash and cream cheese sandwich. It felt like SUCH an after thought and wasn't good. The carrot cake was pretty good but the other desserts were so-so. Our waitress was very nice but overall disappointed by the food. read more
We had another fantastic outing to Dushanbe - this time for lunch! There are no reservations for lunch, unlike dinner and tea but we didn't wait too long on a Friday. We enjoyed the al fresco seating in the garden and some amazing dishes! Both the spicy peanut noodle and the Thai-Korean Bulgogi fusion entrees were bomb. I tried the peony white tea, which was surprisingly flavorful - almost sweet! And of course the place is beautiful. But everyone knows that! It's always such a pleasure to dine here! read more

We really enjoy coming here when we're in Boulder, it's also a great place to bring guests. The inside of the tea house is truly a marvel, the fountain and intricate designs create a fantastic atmosphere for delicious food. We were eating with a vegan in our party and they were incredibly accommodating. Overall we would definitely come back, but you need to make a reservation well in advance. read more
Loved the experience at Dushanbe Teahouse! The setting is so pleasant, an open space filled with tiled art, plants, and lots of natural light. The interior alone is worth a visit, it feels like you're transported to another country. And then the tea -- it's GOOD. I tried one of the black teas and loved everything, from the presentation to the balanced flavors. It was fantastic. My friend had a green tea and enjoyed it as well. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful with how best to prepare each tea. Food was good too, this is a good spot for breakfast or brunch (paired with tea, obviously). Single diner review (10/30/2024). I came for tea on a weekday afternoon. I was surprised and how many other women were there -- as someone on holiday I questioned if there are so many people who can take tea in the middle of a weekday afternoon. We had to wait for our tables (despite them being empty) in a very small vestibule that opens to the chilly and damp Boulder weather. The tea service was fine. My favorite bite was probably the cucumber and hummus that started the meal off, but everything else was enjoyable. I did order a glass of sparkling wine that came out a little lack luster (very few bubbles) and their tea menu, while extensive, had many teas that they had run out of. I was frustrated that I had to order my third choice of tea when the first two were not in stock (and that wasn't shared by my waitress or stated on the menu). Bottom line: Come for the history and ambiance. It's worth it to see the beautifully carved and tiled dining room. read more
Made a reservation for dinner after looking at the amazing reviews and stunning interiors. Came here with a group of friends, and we're very excited by the ambience the place offers. We ordered tea, appetizers, veg jalfrezi , Vietnamese noodles, hummus plates, chicken and more. To our surprise none of really enjoyed our meal, the flavors were bland, not just bland but lacked balance. The teas were good, and we enjoyed the atmosphere and service. Flies everywhere!! We were originally sat in a corner where flies were sitting on us and our utensils so we asked to move and they moved us. But still it was insane how many flies were buzzing around. I usually don't mind this kind of stuff but this was intolerable. We arrived at lunch hour, and it was busy. We were sat immediately. Wife ordered the Indonesian peanut noodles, and the Bulgogi for me. Bot dishes were very tasty. The service was good. This is such a beautiful tea house. You need a reservation to sit inside and do afternoon tea but the bar will serve you and you can sit outside! We got a cocktail (Alpine Glow) and a pot of tea that were great. So pretty, highly recommend visiting while in Boulder read more
My friend and I enjoyed our spur of the moment afternoon tea here. Our server was attentive and kind and it was fun to look around at all the wall and ceiling adornments. We didn't have a reservation so we didn't get the fancy high tea treats but they sure looked good when they walked by on the three tiered plates! The ambiance is very calming and welcoming. The service is good. Though it did take a long time for our food to come. Luckily I wasn't in a rush so it was fine. I had a strawberry black decaf tea and my friend had chai. Our food was very good as well. They have a nice outside patio seating also. It rained on the day I went but it's a nice spot. read more
I came to Dushanbe Teahouse for afternoon tea with some friends on a snowy Saturday. Our server was super knowledgeable and was able to walk us through the menu and to answer all of our many questions. Everything was delicious from the tea to the treats and not to mention the service! I have lived in Colorado a long time but never experienced afternoon tea at Dushanbe. Service was chefs kiss! Server was funny and attentive I could just stare at the walls for days. It's so gorgeous in there. Vibe was sorta weird tbh but I think that was the crowd, not the staff. Best thing we had was the svamptoast under small plates. Second best was the peanut noodles and third was the shoko. We also ordered the saag paneer. The paneer was some of the best I've ever had! The saaag.... Well it didn't seem like saag. It seemed more like a coriander sauce or Indian pesto type thing. That and the fact that everything could've used a tad more salt are my only gripes and why I'll leave off one star. But soooo worth making a reservation and checking it out! read more

I came in really excited to try this place. It was to be my lunch stop during my day trip to Boulder. Unfortunately, the experience was far from what I'd hoped. First off, **do *not* sit at the tea bar.** I was served tea in a pot that was visibly broken and stained, which already felt unsanitary. Service overall was underwhelming; staff seemed distracted and inattentive, and there was a man, possibly a manager, though he wasn't in uniform; who was washing out his personal blue water bottle right in front of me. It felt out of place and disruptive in an already cramped setup. The one redeeming part? The food was actually decent. But just as I started to appreciate the flavors, a swarm of flies around me and the pastry case killed my appetite. Speaking of the pastry case, it's positioned awkwardly next to the bar and filled with older-looking breads wrapped in plastic. The entire display desperately needs a refresh and a good cleaning. It's a shame because the, location is gorgeous. Maybe I caught them on an off day. It was busy, but that doesn't excuse the sense of being rushed through an experience that felt messy and unpolished. Would I return? Maybe, but definitely not at the bar. Try at your own risk, and keep expectations in check. read more

From the East Coast and was the #1 first place I wanted to go when we arrived! Came here several months ago but knew my fiancée would absolutely love it so on our trip to Colorado to visit friends and for her first time to Colorado, I just KNEW I had to surprise her and take her here! The samosas are absolutely to die for. We ended up getting 2 orders because they were so good! Also the chai is absolutely heavenly... so much so that my fiancée made us come back a few times to get it again because it was so good! 1000/10. Definitely coming back. Your trip and visit to Boulder is not complete without a visit to the Dushanbe Teahouse! read more

The Dushnabe Teahouse is an iconic restaurant in Boulder, and as a tea lover, I had to check it out! I went here for lunch on a weekday and it was already crowded. I didn't want to wait for a table inside so I sat outside on their patio instead. They lined it with flowers and you can hear the river flowing by, so it is still very pretty. Even with how busy they were, the food came out super fast. They had multiple good veggie options on their lunch menu! I got the spicy peanut noodles with tofu. It was a perfect level of spice and they really jam packed it with veggies. I loved the crunch the cabbage added. I ordered the london fog latte because that is my absolute favorite tea drink! They add vanilla to theirs which is a good touch but I felt like they overdid it and it was a bit too sweet for me. read more
*CELIAC / GLUTEN FREE REVIEW we came for an anniversary dinner and it was SO beautiful. The building facade is absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere is amazing. the GF options on the dinner menu are quite extensive, they do have a GF dedicated fryer, the staff are very knowledgeable, and they have a celiac protocol in the kitchen. for drinks, you MUST get the house chai hot. So so SO good. For tea, we got the colorado white peach and the golden sail 2005. The white peach was just okay but the golden sail was fantastic. we got the Persian dolma bademjan to start and that was very flavorful before moving on to the Tajik shish kabob and the spicy Indonesian peanut noodles. The kabob was cooked on too high of heat, unfortunately, and was quite charred on the exterior / overcooked in other interior parts. The rice and raita salad served with it were nice, though! The peanut noodles weren't anything special, TONS of cabbage haha - but the tofu that came with it was amazing. we ended with the mocha tortoni mousse, and that was good! Overall, I really loved the venue and the experience but wouldn't order any of the same main dishes again. I did not get sick! read more

I would say this is a must visit when in Boulder especially since it is a designated landmark since 2020 as it is a symbol of international friendship. This was a gift from Dushanbe which was once a city in the Soviet Union, and this is considered the only "Chaikhona" (Central Asian/Tajik Teahouse) in the United States. It was designed with traditional Persian architecture and designs without the use of power tools. I got all this info from a plaque outside the building, and it's no denying how gorgeous and stunning this building is. You can see the articulate designs and how carefully crafted the architecture is. It's truly a sight to see. With how elegant and stunning everything here, I'm surprised that the price point is very affordable. They offer a huge selection of teas from across the world and some food ranging from dishes to snacks. To be honest, I forgot the names of what we got but we got two teas from China. One was a Black Tea base with Whiskey and a White Tea from the Fujian region. The black tea with whiskey was not my favorite based on personal preference but it was exactly what it said it was. The whiskey flavor is strong without masking the black tea, but the whiskey flavor is the more dominant of the two. I liked the white tea. It was sweet, subtle and has a nice earthy taste to it. It's what I expected of it. Service here was great as well but I would say they do get busy so sometimes it may take a bit to flag someone down. It's a really nice place to enjoy as the drinks are good and the ambiance is nice. read more

As if inspired from a Rudyard Kipling novel, the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse shines as an early 20th century piece of Indian/British design. The beautiful artwork and design of the building both inside and out is a marvel of architecture from this early 20th century time period. The food here is both classic and intricate as they have not only world class teas, but a world wide menu of fanciful and flavorful breakfast and brunch delights. Our waitress was friendly, and helpful. No trip to Boulder would be complete without a visit to the Dushanbe Teahouse. read more

Upon arriving Boulder, I went directly to this tea house to reserve my spot. It was barely 12pm and the groups of people waiting was long. Upon a short wait, was seated in a good area for people watching and observing the lovely decor of this space. The service was quick and our wait staff was pleasant. Beautiful setting and decor. Special atmosphere. The staff is always harrassed no matter how few or many people there are. The food is ridiculously bad and overpriced. The menu is bizarrely complex for no reason and poorly executed. I will go again for the atmosphere - but we wary of the food. They gave me leftover tea grub after everyone else discarded in their - would you pay $32 for what they gave me? All old, all decaying. The desserts are old looking, definitely not made in store. I'm no cook but I can put together a meal better than that. Whole Foods has better cakes or anywhere else. They know its the only place around and get crowds - and they know their food is mediocre. The people who think its great have never been anywhere real or good. read more

Exquisite tea, beautiful setting, incredible food. This is the best of Boulder. Come here for a relaxing experience and enjoy the atmosphere. Highly recommend making reservations in advance as this place gets crowded fast. I wanted to try every tea on the menu but only one per person. Beautiful space with good drinks and mediocre food. No wait for 5 of us on a Wednesday at 12:30pm. We were provided with kids menus and crayons. $99.81 before tips for 3 drinks, 1 side, 3 entrees, and 1 kid's entree. * Kid's Karage ($7) - 4 stars Pretty decent basically popcorn chicken with thick, flavorful breading. The fries were good too with nice seasoning. We ordered this late and our server forgot to put it in, so she actually comp'ed this on our bill. * The Dr. Watson ($14) - 4 stars A good blend of scotch and sweet flavors. * Fresa Sabia ($11) - 3.5 stars Refreshing and fruity without being too sweet. There was barely any egg white foam, however. SMALL PLATES * Dandanmian Noodle ($11.5) - 3 stars This was more complicated than a traditional dandanmian dish, with a lot of different veggies on top. It's also normally not spicy, although this wasn't too bad. Ok overall. * Persian Khoresh Fesenjan ($16) - 3 stars Pretty underwhelming - this is supposed to be a pomegranate curry with pieces of chicken, but it was more of a pomegranate salsa over a chicken thigh. Didn't have a lot of flavor, and the rice was very dry and hard. * Malaysian Sambal Curry ($15 tofu) - 3 stars The best part of this dish were the mushroom and carrots, which was packed with flavor. The tofu was pretty good, as was the curry. However, the rice was incredibly dry and hard. read more

During Covid, Are reservations allowed or required to dine here?
When we went they didn't require reservations and had people well spaced. This was in October of 2020. Hope this helps!
