OMG DELICIOUS. The best garlic paste I've ever had. The food was fresh n delicious. I had a trio. The only thing I didn't like was the beef kafta. It was burnt. This place is great. Get the fries extra crispy. Get the starter plate, and order the 6 pieces of the fluffiest, softest, warm pita buns. They're a little sweet, and use those instead of the large pita wrap to dip all your delicious condiments in. The shawarmas are great too. read more

Boukie's Grill is conveniently located on Main Street in Downtown Royal Oak. Metered Parking is available at the back. Having great been here almost 6-7 times now, I have found the food always consistent and delicious. Everything from their warm bread and garlic dip, to their fresh squeezed juices and salads are always on point. This was our first time ordering from this restaurant and it was a major fail. We ordered food to go and it took a very long time, so I ordered a juice smoothie while I was waiting which was good. We ordered fattoush salad, tawook sandwich, extra baked puffy bread, grilled Mediterranean vegetables. They didn't give us any bread, not even what we paid for, sautéed veggies weren't Mediterranean veggies at all and tawook was ridiculously soaked with sauce. I wouldn't suggest this place read more

Nothing we got was very good. I've worked in middle eastern and Mediterranean restaurants and the Kafta was dry and lacking flavor and the accompanying onions with sumac, tomato or other garnishes. We absolutely love Boukie's, along with all of our friends and family. The quality of food is absolutely exceptional and you get so much food you can enjoy it for days. Our favorites are the Chicken, Lemon Rice soup, Lentil Soup, Chicken Shawarma, Greek Gyro, Grilled Veggies, Hummus, Greek Spinach Pie and Fattoush and Greek Salads! We keep saying we are going to try new things but need up eating our old favorites every time! We can't recommend this place enough, they have something for everyone. NOT GOOD for delivery... traveling for work and just paid $16 (plus delivery fee & tip) for a combo platter... description said dish came with rice and I was prompted to select a "second side," and I selected fries... Fries are disgusting... they literally are the same sickening batter-dipped fry that Long John Silver's has (if you've ever had the misfortune to eat there)... AND NO RICE. None. At all. With my kabobs. Really, Boukie's Grill? And the kabobs are so dry... I know they are meant to be fully cooked through but there are plenty of other places where that doesn't equal bone dry. And no hot sauce... :'( I'm so disappointed, your reviews were very good but I can't disagree with them more. If you're in DT Royal Oak at 9 on a Saturday night, here's a list of a few things you can find: 1) Girls in skirts way too short for their age 2) More guys in dress shirts and jeans than you can throw your shoe at 3) Fellas scoping out the ladies to drop their mack game 4) Great restaurants. Out of this list, only #4 makes it on yelp (for others, check Instagram or Snapchat). I had the pleasure of visiting this place after a failed attempt at La Dulce, and I must say I'm glad I visited. As usual, here's my list of pros and cons (however short it may be): Pros: +Very clean +Great rice! so fluffy I could die! +Lamb swarma (did I spell it right?) is off the chain! +Grape leaves are huge! Let me give it to you straight about Boukie's. I think a lot of people are deterred by this place because of the previous restaurant in this location and it's less than mediocre food with suffocating hookah. This place is doing it right. Let me start off by saying you can get a chicken schwarma sandwich for $3.75. $3.75!!!!!!! Like I can't get a gallon of milk for that much sometimes. The food itself is fantastic. And the owner will always personally come greet you and ask how the food is. I have been here 4 times now and the food has always been consistently good. If you are a hummus fan, I highly recommend getting a platter for the table. The portion is huge, you may up taking some home. It is smooth and creamy, without being too liquidy. I'm a big fan of the shish kafta and the chicken tawook platters. Nothing special about the dish description, but they cook their meat perfectly. Dear Yelpers This place is the whip. I cannot explain my satisfaction enough in words as to how great our meal was. We got the "serves 2 people sampler..." There was enough delicious food for 6 people. It was borderline epic, it made our New Year's Day so special. The sampler included baba ghanouj, hummus, tabouleh, fresh house made pitas with our basket refilled often, chicken & beef Schwarma, French fries, pickled turnips, falafel, pepporcinis... It was really an amount of food that was something else. Individually the food would have cost over $50, but the sampler platter was $27 and had all of that stuff!!! The service was absolutely amazing and every time our fresh hot pita basket got even close to low, another new fresh hot basket of pits from the oven would appear. Great place! First time here. Falafel app was good portioned, crispy and soft like butter on the inside, plus really nicely seasoned. I order the lamb shank dinner special. Slow cooked in what seemed like a Moroccan seasonings, fall off the bone good. Their rice pilaf is really the best I have had locally. Chicken shawarma was right on. After reading the fav reviews I stopped in for a quick dinner. It was busy but not full on a Friday night (6-ish). I was seated immediately and my waiter was friendly and very helpful to this first timer navigate the menu. The service was excellent, there when you needed, without hanging over you. The crushed lentil soup started my meal off with pita and garlic spread. Delicious! I tried the chicken and beef combo dinner and it was excellent. The food was fresh, with good seasoning. Disappointing food and very poor customer service. I was home in Michigan over the holidays and was craving some good Mediterranean food. My favorite place was closed for New Years (shoutout to Anita's Kitchen in Ferndale!), so I decided to try Boukie's based on family and friend recommendations. I ordered spinach pie (my favorite) and the lemon rice soup. My boyfriend ordered the chicken gallabeh. When I opened the box for the spinach pie, I was immediately disappointed to see three small dough triangles. Biting into one made me even more sad - there was essentially one thin layer of spinach into this doughy triangle. It tasted like something I could have bought frozen at the grocery store (or worse). Disappointed, I moved to the lemon rice soup and was sad to find chicken in it (I'm a vegetarian). Looking back, I am not shocked there was chicken in it (as I've only actually seen lemon rice at National Coney Island with chicken) but this was nowhere on their menu on their website or yelp. My boyfriends food (chicken gaballeh) turned out okay, although he's very easy to please. We called the restaurant to ask about the spinach pie (noting there are two types on the menu- the appetizer pie and the Greek "pies"). I had ordered the appetizer since it was the single version and assumed it was your basic spinach pie. The woman we talked to essentially told us we should have ordered the Greek "pies" which would have instead been one slice of spinach pie. She kept telling us if we looked on the grubhub menu "it says it all on there." (We ordered through yelp so looked on the menu here and also on their website for food descriptions). She gave us the same explanation for the soup (even though there is no mention of chicken in the soup on their menu on their own website) and was very rude and unprofessional. I would be careful ordering from here. If you want spinach pie, get the Greek one. Or better yet, go to one of the other Mediterranean restaurants here and avoid risking spending $6 on something you could have bought at the grocery store. read more

Back in the day I remember this location was an awesome Lebanese spot where people would enjoy hookah outside -- I saw that it was now a new business but same food concept so I decided to give it a try, boy was I impressed! Very delicious Lebanese food -- everything was freshly made and the pita bread was super yummy! I would highly recommend trying the hummus and tabouli as a starter. The chicken pita was also very delicious. The service though when I went was a little slow and I found myself flagging down the waitress a few times during my stay. Really bad experience here during memorial day weekend. My mother-in-law ordered a falafel platter and the insides of the falafel balls were raw. She let the waiter know and he copped an attitude.. MIL (politely) : excuse me, the inside of these are raw Waiter (rudely): that's how we make it MIL: I make falafel at home, it shouldn't be like this Waiter: home is different than restaurant ... Waiter (rudely): So what do you want me to do? At this point, we were uncomfortable and just wanted to get out of there so we didn't order anything else. We ended up just finishing quickly since we were in a rush to get somewhere. During our meal, we heard another patron politely complain that their entire order was wrong and they wanted something medium-well. After he walked away, the wait staff was laughing and kept repeating "medium well," obviously making fun of the guy. When the check came, they didn't take anything off it and they added gratuity automatically, which isn't common for parties of 4, in my experience. My husband went to the cashier and told them he wanted to take gratuity off because we obviously weren't happy with the service - and truth be told, they should've taken off the platter knowing it wasn't good. The original waiter (who is supposedly the owner) started yelling "you ate it, just pay for it and don't come back." My husband argued with him and he called the cops on my husband (who by the way was just angry and refusing to pay the gratuity because of the poor service). We ended up putting down the cash for the bill, sans tip, and left. In retrospect we probably should have left extra gratuity for the staff to use towards customer service seminars. read more

We have been loyal customers of Boukies for years now. Everything they make is delicious! But we just picked up takeout and none of their kitchen staff was wearing masks. When we called to ask about this, the manager said: "they don't come in contact with the customer so they don't need to" !! Well, they make the food!! Sometimes magic happens. We were in Royal Oak just for an evening and found Boukie's on Yelp. The three of us talked to our server and found out that she had grown up eating middle eastern food, so we asked her to pick for us things that we might not, things she grew up eating and loved. Oh My God. The Garlic Spread. The Kibbie Balls. The magic "pillow" pita bread. THE SAUTEED CAULIFLOWER !!!!!!!! (Who'd have thought?) If I get to go again--I live very far away--I would pick from the menu random things that are a mystery to me. THE FOOD WAS SO GOOD! Did I mention the SAUTEED CAULIFLOWER that was tender and flavorful and served with a magic sauce that made it PERFECT. We had a long talk with our server, a vibrant young woman who is studying botany, about the Garlic Sauce. It's made with: lemon, garlic, oil (probably corn), and egg white. It's decadent tasting, but all things considered it's pretty darn healthy. If you are reading this review to decide whether or not to try Boukie's--JUST STOP NOW AND GO. We really wanted to like this spot but unfortunately, we had to head to Walgreens to buy medicine after eating our dinner here. My husband mentioned to the waiter that he has an egg allergy at the start of dinner and a dip was brought over which unfortunately caused him to have an allergic reaction. If something is brought over to be shared by the table, we would expect the ingredients which cause allergies to be announced or at least discussed with the kitchen. There's a lot better Mediterranean around. The fatoush salad was average. The chicken Schwarma dinner was DRRRRYYYYY. Hard to choke down. The grilled vegetables that I got instead of rice were the best part of the meal. My carryout consisted of two vegetarian grape leaves and one meat-filled order. We could not tell which was which because they didn't differentiate on the box. Their grape leaves also have a little kick to them. They were huge though. Not my favorite place. Located on the corner of 11 and main in the heart of RO, which is awesome because I live down the block the thume is on point, creamy like I like, I find it crazy that some folks prefer the oily thume of Anita's Kitchen but alas, more for me! The bread is good, but it's looks like a pizza roll? All pieces are indentical as well, not the snowflake variety from most similar establishments. The food quality is on point! Every time! The salad isn't as good as at Wow! mediterranean but I loved the batata hara here and I also enjoyed the other meals I Tried. The potatoes had he perfect crisp on the outside and soft inside. It had a refreshing parsley, salt, and lemon flavor. I loved putting them into my pita with garlic. They give pita bread out to the table with a small dish of garlic sauce and they also have some raw juices. I will be back again! The pita bread is oven baked in a hot oven that is visible.
