There was plenty of parking at a nearby lot and since it was Sunday, meters in front of the restaurant were free! The interior was lovely, with a nice atmosphere featuring art and a few hanging Moroccan lamps. We had a selection of appetizers to start off with pita bread, then a choice of entrée: salmon, skirt steak, chicken tagine, or veg papardelle. I got the chicken tagine and my partner got the skirt steak. Everything was delicious! I think there was a slight miscommunication: i tried to explain i had a few allergies and for some reason my meal came without couscous, which they brought me later upon request. The tagine was very powerful, a bit too strong as it really soaks into the grains, but i still thought it was overall tasty. Skirt steak was very good too, and all the meals had a nice presentation. The fried cauliflower and fried zucchini chip appetizers were very tasty too! We ended the meal with a cake brought in from a bakery that the staff cut up and served along with prompt coffee and tea service. A fun spot for a family lunch (party of 14!) and nice experience

There were multiple open tables when we arrived, so that estimate seemed reasonable. Instead, we waited until nearly 9:00 p.m. During that time, we went up to the hostess stand several times to ask for an update, and every single time we were told that we were "next." Yet we continued to watch numerous other parties get seated ahead of us. As the only white group waiting, it left us feeling like we were being treated differently. I can't say for certain why we were repeatedly passed over, but the experience made us feel unwelcome, especially after watching so many other groups be seated while we were continually told we were next. This is particularly frustrating because this isn't the first time I've felt this way at Market North End. I've continued to come back because the food is genuinely very good, but great food isn't enough to make up for feeling ignored and disrespected as a customer. This is consistent with all of the rumors we have heard about this restaurant being unfair to certain races. No one should have to wait an hour and a half while being repeatedly assured they're next, only to watch other parties be seated instead. I hope management takes a serious look at how the waitlist is managed and ensures that every guest is treated fairly and consistently.

Elie's was the perfect place to grab a drink and some dinner after a travel day and to fuel for a big weekend ahead. We ordered some drinks (wine and martinis) and shared the Mixed Appetizer plate that had hummus, baba ghannouge, and tabouli and was served with a basket of warm mini pita bread. Our waitress was attentive and refilled the pita basket a couple of times and so was the water service. For entrees, I had the lebanese salad with salmon, and others at the table had the fattoush salad with chicken, baby back ribs, and chicken shawarma. It was a lot of food and we did not finish it all... and while it was very good, nothing stood out as something you can't find elsewhere either. No complaints however. I would definitely recommend Elie's if you're in the area and looking for a solid bar/restaurant with Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine. Elie's offers both indoor and outdoor seating and they also host private parties and offer catering. It is clearly a neighborhood favorite and has been around for decades.

They also do not disclose there is a 20% tip on a party of 5. Which they are legally obligated to do. This is what we got: Hummus - Nothing special, very small for $6.50 (and the turnip garnishes were mushy) Chicken Tenders "Appetizer" - Tenders were good, but maybe a total of 4 oz? Also, came with fries. $7.50 for teeny tenders was way too much. Shwarma (lamb) Sandwich - Dry and bland Fatoosh Tawook (but I got Shwarma chicken, instead of Tawook) - Lettuce was mushy and chicken tasted a couple of days old. Dressing was not tangy. The garlic spread they put on the table was unremarkable and the pita was strangely sweet. Service - what service? There were probably about eight other people in the restaurant. On a Saturday. At 6:00. Not much of a dinner rush. The waiter was prompt in taking our order but it took THIRTY-FIVE minutes to get our food. I know it was that long because we had a timer going to plug the meter. I'm not quite sure how it took 35 minutes to slice off some Shwarma, roll it in a sandwich (or top a pre-mixed Fatoosh) and deep-fry a chicken tender. There was a "cook" and a waiter, and an older woman sitting in the back checking her smart phone - and another guy doing dishes. Four people working in the restaurant and it took 35 minutes to get our mushy, room temperature food. We paid with a $30 Groupon (for $15) and we still overpaid. It's really too bad it's so hard to find good Middle Eastern food once you cross the border of Dearborn. The best we have found is La Saj, in Sterling Heights, but that's quite a hike for us, too.
