Steak au Poivre

Dining at Bouchon on Bastille Day was an absolute treat! The festive specials, farmers market menu, extensive wine list, and classic offerings made it difficult to choose--but the Steak au Poivre special was an absolute dream. Every element was cooked to perfection: the filet was buttery, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, the green beans were crisp and fresh, and the layered potato was beautifully cheesy with a deliciously crisp top. The service was exceptional from start to finish. The entire team was warm, attentive, and worked together seamlessly. I appreciated the thoughtful wine recommendations, regular check-ins throughout the meal, and the genuine hospitality from everyone--including the manager, who was actively supporting the staff. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was calm, elegant, and the Bastille Day decorations added just the right festive touch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My only complaint? I didn't have a big enough appetite to try more of the menu! I was seated quickly, and the staff was wonderfully accommodating when I decided to move from the patio to the dining room. I highly recommend Bouchon and can't wait to return.

My first choice "Special Occasion" restaurant in SB - they have great local wines, pair them well with the specials of the day, and the staff is 100% there for creating ambiance. In fact, the host added rose petals to our table after learning it was my birthday Food is delicious, and they make it easy to share entrees (because I MUST try everything). Highly recommend the maple glazed duck breast and the seared white fish of the day, plus the fig and arugula salad.

Ribeye. Perfectly cooked and very tender

Yum! We had a lovely dinner at Bouchon. The food was exceptional. The atmosphere is laid-back and refined at the same time. In the tradition of fine dining, timing was well paced with plenty of time to visit and enjoy.

Crab cake. Not my favorite. I am from the east coast so IYKYK

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Bouchon has a quaint yet elegant atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The host let me pick which table I could sit at, which was nice. I had the French onion soup to start. It was very flavorful and the onions almost melt in your mouth. I paired it was a Cabernet Sauvignon, it was a great start to the meal. I had the duck as my entree. Wow! It was so tender and delicious. I enjoyed the vegetables as well. I had it with a Cabernet Pinot mix the waitress recommended. I had the crème brûlée for dessert. It was the perfect ending to the meal. It was light and the top layer had a nice crack when for the first bite. The waitress was so sweet. She comped my second glass of wine since I was eating alone. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service, ambiance and food were all amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I definitely recommend Bouchon!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Bouchon has the classy food paired with an atmosphere that makes you feel like you're a regular being welcomed home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My Pacific white fish was crisped beautifully and topped with a gremolata (green sauce) that was a flavor delight. The fennel was also sweet and delicious. Most notable was how the French onion soup was on the sweeter side (four onions), a welcome change to the often overly salty versions I've had before.

A warm welcome table!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A lovely, romantic gem that radiates warmth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Came with the family after Christmas and sat on the front (inside/outside) patio - for those wondering, there are TONS of heat lamps.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor and vibe were festively elegant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we arrived, there were scattered rose petals and a note on the table acknowledging my brother's partner's birthday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is stellar, and classically French. We ordered: ~ French onion soup ~ Maple Glazed Duck Breast & Confit of Thigh (the dish that they've been making for 27 years) ~ Sesame & Herb-Crusted Chargrilled Rack of Lamb ~ Dungeness crab cakes ~ Roasted brussels sprouts (these were overly charred, so we sent them back) For dessert: ~ Creme brulee (also quite charred, but c'est la vie) ~ molten lava cake w/McConnell's vanilla ice cream Service was refined, and our server was, for the most part, both friendly and classy. The biggest issue was the sluggishness of the pacing: after the appetizer/bread course, we waited at least 45 minutes for our entrees with no updates or check-ins. (They were also out of two items we ordered - the pork shank and the scallop trio.) When it had ticked 2 hours after we'd first sat down and still no entrees, we flagged down our server to ask what was up, and - this sticks with me - he acted surprised we felt we were waiting and said so. Especially at such a classy spot, it feels like the only answer should be: "Sorry, let me check." It left a funny taste in my mouth in an otherwise outstanding evening. Street parking, or a paid lot closeby. Either way, bake in time to walk.

Super cute decorations

Highly recommend visiting Bouchon and reservations are a must as this place gets packed quickly. It's such a cute and romantic spot. No association with the chain steakhouse Bouchon whatsoever. The food here was phenomenal and beautifully presented. All the dishes we ordered were beautifully plated and tasty. The scallop trio is enough to be a course on its own, but highly recommended. The scallops were juicy, huge and delicious. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Service is exquisite and attentive.

We choose Bouchon for my wife's birthday dinner. We have heard about it and been wanting to experience it during our travels to the area. We are from Texas. It did not disappoint. The service was second to none and the staff not only know the menu inside and out they are also well versed in Wine which is refreshing. We were pretty tired and not too hungry after touring wine country most of the day so we ended up sharing. We shared the tuna tartar, the lamb and crème brûlée. The food was definitely worth a Michelin star in my opinion. The restaurant had a great vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a reason Bouchon has been around almost three decades. It's a must visit if you are a foodie or just love a great experience.

Great food and scenery (outdoors). Convenient location too! The staff is nice but I don't know why they made us wait outside instead of seating us a few minutes early.

Dungeness Crab Cakes and Ahi Crusted Tuna

I have come here for multiple special occasions and have always felt like it was a memorable dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The indoor and outdoor ambiance is very nice; dim lighting, canopy cover outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff are very welcoming and kind, they were very attentive to us throughout our whole dining experience. Their seasonal dishes are some of the freshest in town. The salmon is cooked to perfection and I have had to get it more than once. Best dish was a seasonal ahi crusted tuna with orzo pasta.

Having visited Thomas Keller's Bouchon in Vegas, we were surprised to learn that this Bouchon is not affiliated with that restaurant group. Regardless, this Bouchon provides a very nice dining experience. We had reservations inside at 7:30 on a Saturday night. All tables inside and outside on the patio were filled with contented guests eating and drinking. We were approached by our waiter immediately upon being seated. He brought us iced water while we studied the menu and nibbled on complimentary bread and butter. When my egg allergy prevented us from ordering the Steak Tartare, we ordered the three Diver scallop appetizer (MP, $48 that evening) instead. Our waiter did an excellent job of ensuring that nothing with eggs was served. He put the garlic aioli on the side for boyfriend to enjoy. I was impressed by the creativity and interesting accompaniments of each scallop. A foodie delight. I loved all three of them, and I kinda wished I had ordered this as my entree! It is a hearty appetizer, as our waiter said, and it could be ordered as an entree. Boyfriend had the duck and I had the salmon. Both were very good and filling, with decent portions. Boyfriend found the duck thigh to be a little dry, but it was good otherwise. We ordered a bottle of the Cambria Pinot Noir to have with our dinner. This is an earthy medium-bodied Pinot from central California, priced at $60. We were too full for dessert, but the desserts looked amazing. This is a very nice restaurant with a 26-year history, good food and good service. A solid choice for upscale dining in Santa Barbara.

Did this restaurant relocate about a year ago from another location?

Thanks for your question, Vicky! Our location is unchanged, we've been at 9 W. Victoria St since Bastille Day 1998 - the original California bouchon!

What is your corkage fee?

Was reasonable when we were there last month. $35

Hi, is it possible to dine here with our well behaved five year old son? What is your policy with kids?

I think that would be entirely appropriate. We were an adults table, but the staff is lovely( beyond!), and he's well-behaved so I would guess it would be just fine and they would welcome him. Not a stuffy place--just great food and service!

Is there a dress code for dinner?

Thanks for your question, Jennifer! We do not have a dress code as our guests arrive with a variety of days spent and evenings planned. Some straight from wine tasting in valley, so casual, others dressed up for their anniversary. However you are…

Is this place pet friendly for out door seating?

Good afternoon, Cindy, and thanks for asking! Yes, we do allow well-behaved dogs in our outdoor seating area. Be sure to mention in 'visitor notes' if you book via OpenTable or let us know on the phone if you call to make the reservation directly…

I made reservations for Sunday and just wanted to ensure there were vegetarian options as I did not see any on the menu?

Thank you for your email and interest in bouchon, Long! We have a very devoted following of…

I am considering celebrating my anniversary here, but neither of us drink. Are there reasonable non-alcoholic beverage options other than water?

Thanks for your interest in bouchon, Meme Cream. Our focus is truly on wine dining and without a bar (beer & wine only) we do not have sufficient refrigeration to offer a robust non-alcoholic drinks menu. Coffee, tea and soda are all we are able…

Im wondering how much the tasting menu is and where can I see it?

Hi, there is no tasting menu I am aware of at Bouchon Santa Barbara!! Enjoy, it's wonderful.

Everything is high quality and fresh for reasonable prices. Charming, cozy decor with Danish accents. Service is also excellent and warm. Quiche with Hollandaise Sauce - Light, buttery flaky crust, light, fluffy eggs. Absolutely delightful, leeks provided good texture. Came with a strip of bacon. Was so amazing hardly ate the sauce. Don't think you can sub salad for fries but no worries, as the breakfast potatoes were amazing. Many places offer breakfast potatoes but something seemingly simple is actually hard to make well. My friend's Bratwurst Sausage with Eggs, her favorite, was hearty and filling. A lot of indoor seating but we enjoyed our table outside, watching pedestrians on State St. and enjoying the beautiful scenery and architecture. We expected to wait to be seated but surprisingly it wasn't that busy. Order at counter and the food is brought to your table. As we waited, employee kindly gave us two free pastry samples, both delicious. All the baked goods I got to go I want again. Their scones are fabulous-slightly crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. Their tea service which comes with champagne is pricey, I believe $75 per person. But interior is a perfect colorful and relaxed setting for tea. My tastebuds dream of coming back. Will be thrilled when I next indulge on their pastries and quiche.

SCORE 0 HEALTH HAZARD 10…read more This is our third time we've had issues with the staff. Today is our last time going here. There was only one person in line and 4 staff members behind the counter standing around talking to each other. Nobody greeted us or asked for our bakery order. When I said excuse me to a dirty blond girl she replied "WHAT!" and continued to joke with a co worker. When the cashier finished with their customer they walked away and even though they saw we were waiting to be helped. I looked around and saw nobody helping seated customers or us at the bakery counter. Finally, the dirty blonde ask what we need and my response was "WHAT" ?! At this point we should have left and gone to Lilac Patisserie however we proceeded to give her our order. I told another customer behind us that rudeness seems to be the norm, and she agreed. I paid for our bakery items and asked an older woman scrolling on her phone if we could have a bag for all of our boxed treats. She grabbed a handful of bags and threw them at me from across the counter. We were appalled and left. We found a place to sit on State street to eat our treats and my daughter said she didn't want her Meringue because the dirty blonde girl used the back of her ungloved hand to repeatedly wipe her nose. We threw all $50 worth of baked goods in the trash. Yes, I should have gone back and complained I'm had everything refunded but it was Mother's Day and we didn't want anything more to do with this establishment. It was also an epiphany that they don't treat everyone this way. It could be you next time. Please go somewhere else. We will never go to anywhere but Lilac Patisserie which is to the left as you exit Andersons, past the stop light. You will definitely get your money's worth and the staff is friendly, professional, and greet you immediately as you reach the counter.

It is worth mentioning that it takes a little time and is a little challenging getting to the restaurant from the valet area, for those who might be a little physically challenged or slower moving. I do believe that they have an elevator to take you down to the restaurant level though! Reservation-wise they have two options, the four course Prix Fixe menu (which I chose) and a three hour Chef's Tasting Menu. For my menu, I was able to select from about 3-4 options in every course, and there were some available add ons as well. I loved the La Mora Messicana NA Cocktail, it paired nicely with all of my dishes and still felt fun and margarita-esque. Of all the dishes I ate during the evening, the standout for me was the Yolk Gnocchetti Sardi Risotti with Stephanie's Uni Santa Barbara Abalone, Yuzu, and Caviar. It somehow combined all of my favorite things and made what felt like a comfort dish, but elevated. The Chef's Bites at the beginning and end were also delicious, I loved the little blueberry tart. When our Lyft arrived, employees rushed over to open the doors, and when we asked where the restaurant was, the front desk employee actually stepped away from the desk to personally point us in the right direction. The walk to the restaurant is a bit long since it overlooks the beach, but it was a beautiful night and ended up feeling relaxing and special. (Particularly on the way back when we were full from the tasting menu) I just wouldn't wear uncomfy heels. One interesting touch: we overheard the hostess offering another couple the option to put their phones away for the evening so they could fully experience dinner distraction-free. I ended up keeping mine away too and honestly enjoyed being more present during the meal. As a side note, another couple took photos of every meal and there didn't appear to be a stigma regardless. We did the tasting menu, and our waiter was fantastic with recommendations. All the staff was great, honestly. What stood out most to me compared to other Michelin-starred restaurants I've visited was the focus on seasonal ingredients and vegetables. That night featured Harry's berries and asparagus throughout several dishes. My favorite was probably the burrata with Harry's berries and rhubarb. There are quite a few optional upgrades throughout the tasting menu, including caviar and upgraded steak options, but we only added the chocolate bar selection at the end, which was excellent. I also appreciated the atmosphere. You could hear the waves crashing through the open doors, but it still stayed warm and comfortable inside. The noise level was lively without being overwhelming, and the recently added piano really elevated the experience. Some dishes seemed to sing to the symphony. Overall, I wouldn't say it was the best meal I've ever had, but I absolutely would return. Several dishes highlighted the ingredients so beautifully that I'd love to come back during another season to try a different menu. Solid experience and felt more or less felt worth the price.
