Called them because I ran out of oil for the second time this year, despite being on auto delivery. Said they'd send a truck. Called back and told me they are going to send a tech instead, because they thought it was an issue with the burner. Left work to meet the guy. He replaced several parts, said none of it worked. He then asked me if I had oil. He checked the tank and had a truck sent. Went back to work. Got home that night and couldn't bleed the lines. Called service and they sent a tech out at 8pm. The first tech didn't connect one of the lines, because it was stripped. That night my house stunk of fuel oil, and I had to leave some windows open. I get home from work the next day, and the exhaust is blowing out thick smog outside the house. Shut the burner down and called service again. No one called back that night. Had to leave work the next day to meet a third tech. He cleaned the system and told me that one of the parts that was replaced wasn't installed correctly, which was the cause of the smog. Two days later they send a bill. I called to contest it. The supervisor gave me a grunt, and said "fine I'll take care of it." No apologies, no offer to clean the side of my house that is permanently stained from all the smoke that blew out. I've had service with them for years, they even replaced the boiler three years ago. This is the second issue I've had, that they shrugged off.

Damage to the top of the tank

One star is overly generous! My nightmare experience w Bottini: New boiler and water heater not only looked a complete mess (people actually laughed at it!); The boiler went out 12 times in the coldest winter. They finally deduced it was a blocked oil line but blamed me for not having requested one when everything was installed. (This was after my pipes froze for having no heat...). Next the water heater allegedly broke this year, after just 4 years. They said "those type of heaters don't do well in areas with hard water" (go figure). I've had two second opinions and the heater was installed incorrectly. They refuse to acknowledge or take ownership of any of the above and rectify the situation. They offered me a service plan gratis for a year, and an embarrassingly small credit. I declined at first as I should have been compensated more, but as they would not budge, I finally accepted. However, I never even received the credit. Ironically, they are now harassing me to pay labor charges for the replacement water heater (which I paid - but deducted the $250). They then went ahead and charged my credit card without authorization (so I had to dispute it and cancel my card) and blatantly lied about the conversation we'd had. I requested that the girl in accounting that charged my card stop communicating with me - yet she is STILL sending me letters about my 'overdue account'. I have always paid on time, never defaulted on a payment, have told them I will pay the amount I actually owe - yet they have spent hours of my time and theirs harassing me over a measley $250...which they owe me anyway? If it wasn't such an utter waste of my time, it would almost be quite amusing. All of this is just the tip of the iceberg. You would think a company who claims to have over 60 years of operation without a blemish on their reputation would endeavor to keep that reputation intact, especially with the future of energy rapidly moving away from fossil fuels. All of the above, along with their failure to return unclaimed customer funds to the state a few years ago, clearly indicates a company completely devoid of any business ethics. Using Bottini was the worst decision I have made. If you start asking around, the Bottini nightmare stories soon start flowing. Do yourself a favor. Don't touch them with a barge pole!

It's January. My heater dies. So I call Folkes. They send a technician. This technician has the experience level of someone who just learned that furnaces exist. He gets on his phone. For an hour. One full hour listening to a stranger describe your broken heater to another stranger who apparently has the knowledge this stranger was supposed to arrive with. "It's your propane line," he says. I call the propane company. "Folkes always blames us," they say. "It's never us." But they check it out. It's not them. It was never them. So Folkes sends another technician. This one also looks like he was recently introduced to the concept of HVAC. You try to explain the problem and he says (out loud, to a customer, in a house with no heat) "I'm listening, I'm just very tired." The second technician calls the first technician, on speakerphone. They try to fix it together. At one point the first technician is singing. Singing a song, on speaker, in my freezing house. The second technician diagnoses the problem as the pump. Folkes doesn't have the pump. They don't know when they'll have the pump. They'll keep me posted. They do not keep me posted. This is the part where you realize that "we'll keep you posted" is just something people say, like "your call is important to us." It's verbal wallpaper. It means nothing. I wait a few days. I lose patience. I order the part myself. It arrives the next day. I hire a different company to install it. Turns out the pump was fine. So now I've paid Folkes to not fix my heater, blame my propane company, sing in the basement, have me spend $400 on an unneeded part, and disappear. Somewhere right now a Folkes technician is on the phone with another Folkes technician, and neither of them is calling you. One star. And I want you to know that star cost me something.
