Terrible Experience: I've never been so sorry that I spent my money at an establishment. First of all, I walk in and the woman at the door asks, "what do you need?" I figured that the off-putting "greeting" was probably due to a language barrier, but little did I know it would get much worse. So the pedicure itself was okay, my nails look alright, but it was very brief considering what it costed. The tech who did it seemed like she was racing to finish even though there was only one other customer there. She didn't even let my feet soak for more than a few minutes, didn't ask me what shape I wanted my nails in or if I wanted them cut, she barely filed them, it was a mad rush. They even rushed me to pick a color. It was so bizarre! The woman who was at the door was snippy, pushy and even tried to tell me what color to get-unbelievable! Terrible Presentation: When I walked to the back where the pedicure chairs are, I immediately saw junk on the floor, boxes-some opened, some unopened. And boy was I sorry when I had to use the bathroom which they also use as a storage closet-it had more dusty boxes, junk, vacuum cleaners, etc. I'm sorry that I spent any of what was supposed to be a relaxing afternoon in this place. I finally had money to splurge on a pedicure, and this used to be my spot. No longer. The woman who did my pedicure was fantastic, and my toes look great. When she was done, I handed her the cash for the pedicure plus a rather large tip. As I was leaving, the male manager chased after me, wanting to know where the money I owed him for my service. I told him I paid the woman, and he had the gall to ask bout the tip! She came running up to the front of the store, explaining that I had paid, and given her tip as well. By then, everyone in the salon was staring at me like I had stolen something. My guess is that the manager didn't want give her the whole tip, and wanted to keep some for himself! So, no, I will never go back there, as I think the manager is holding back the salon employees tips, and was totally rude to a PAYING CUSTOMER. read more

I was glad I was able to do a walk in for ombré SNS manicure (because I saw a photo on yelp) but I regret going here. First I was up sold nail extension tips which I wasn't planning to get but decided to try last minute because the nail tech (with a short bob cut) made me feel guilty that my current nails were too short for ombré. It was a mistake because one of my fingers was glued on slightly crooked. I pointed it out but she dismissed my concern and said the finished product would turn out fine. I trusted her but it did not turn out fine. It still looks crooked. She also gave me a peach color for nails instead of pink (from the yelp photo I showed her) saying the pinked looked too unnatural. Tbh, the peach looks very unnatural to me, too. I don't mind too much since I'll change it out in a month but this is just another example where I felt pressured to do what the nail tech wanted, trusted her, but her advise was wrong. The whole process took 1.5 hours...way too long, and I was late for my dinner appointment. One thing that struck me as odd was the amount of buffing and air drying for the top coat. It should have taken one to two minutes, they made me wait like 3-4. I also was not given opportunity to wash my hands and they didn't give me any cuticle oil. My nails came out with bubbles and uneven brush streaks and some lint stuck in it. The edges of some of my nails were also uneven and looks like it'll start lifting soon. My thumbs are also two different lengths because they over buffed one. I need a hand to take photos with my phone so I can't show you. The ombré art is great but everything else was meh. All this for $60 + tip (felt obligated to give because I felt pressured again, it was New Years and I was the last one out since they took too long)! This is way too expensive for suburbs and poor quality. I don't want to waste more time to get it fixed and I was visiting from out of town so didn't have the time anyway. I won't be back. read more

I went for the removal of gel acrylics and came out with botched nails and the refusal to get polish. Instead of buffing the acrylic off the employee tried to pop off the hard gel with an acrylic nail even though there was no acrylic nail left on my hands. When I told them to stop because it was painful, they said no it's not painful don't worry. In which they proceeded to continue, then when I asked them to stop again they cut them off with a cuticle cutter. I asked them to stop after they hurt me again and to just file. I then left the store with now uneven, broken nails that they were just going to paint over. I do not recommend. Here is my before and after. read more

It is interesting how they switch up nail techs... for one person they will have 3 different people doing different steps... one prep, one shaper, one painter. I love dip, if done correctly it can last me even up to 4 weeks (my nails take forever to grow) Andy has def done his research on dip and found the best techniques to make your dip last a while and not lift. Do not bother making an appointment. We had one for two mani pedi's. Got put in pedi chairs immediately. Water was freezing by the time someone came over. One person for both of us and two others, seriously!!! It took 2.5 hours, and that was only because I spoke up about waiting & waiting, being forgotten. We'd probably still be waiting. Either honor appointments or don't take them. Walk ins should wait. Have one nail tech per customer, assembly lines don't work. I got cut while getting my toes done (were all human, it happens) but what's worrying is that it turned into an infection. I went home and right away used peroxide on the cut because it hurt, but it didn't stop it from worsening even after tending to it daily with cleaning it properly. Alright... so I've been searching for a nail salon in DE since I moved here last spring. I thought I had found it at Botanix but left today feeling frustrated. I'll start by saying that aside from today, the work itself is usually pretty good. I usually do a dip manicure and a gel pedicure. First I'll start by saying that you get passed around a lot. One person usually starts the process of removing the gel or dip and then 1-2 other people would actually do my manicure which can get mildly annoying. Who do I even tip? The other thing I will mention that is HUGE for me is sanitation. The past 2 times I've been to this salon, they've placed disposable plastic gloves over my hands after the foil to remove the dip. That wouldn't be an issue if they were using a new pair for every person. We are in the middle of flu season and I have to put my hands in the same cheap pair of disposable gloves used on the last however many people. I was not asked to wash my hands prior. So, basically if someone was sick before me, I am putting my hands in the same germ-laden gloves they were using. These gloves are super cheap. If they must be used, a new pair should be used on every person. I mentioned that this was unsanitary at my last visit and had the same experience today. I am pregnant so my immune system is already compromised. Plus, this is just unsanitary. No thanks. Today I came in to have my dip taken off and had a regular manicure and pedicure done. A nice older woman with short hair did both so I wasn't passed around; however, I felt that she either had no clue what she was doing or she doesn't take a lot of pride in her work. Both my toe and finger nails are all filed unevenly. One side is longer that the other. On my toes, only the top portion of the nail was filed so the edges are super sharp. I also warned the woman about a broken toe nail when I sat down and asked if it could be fixed. She went on with the pedicure without fixing it. When it came time to paint my toes, she began painting without fixing it. I asked if the crack was still there and she said no. I grabbed my foot and it was still there. I moved it to show her (although it was obvious). Then she grabbed glue to fix it. I really felt like it was a half done job and that she didn't care about her work at all. I paid $55 for a regular manicure and pedicure for mediocre work. Normally I don't take the time to review, but I paid $55 plus tip and went home and fixed everything myself. Unfortunately I won't be going back between the plastic gloves and my experience today. read more

I've had two different experiences at this salon. The first time I went I got acrylics with gel which were super nicely done but which popped off my nails less than 1.5 weeks after I got the manicure. The second time I got acrylics with just regular polish on top (pictured below) and they are amazing! I visited this nail salon on 8/13 & I'm very disappointed in the way they treat customers who are not regulars. They skipped several steps of my acrylic nail fill including buffing, cuticle oil and grinding my real nails so the acrylics don't lift. They were too busy talking to regulars about a 1* review they got on one of the online pages and complaining about it. If they would have paid attention to the customers in front of them this one start review would not have happened. I know he intentionally skipped the buffing & cuticle oil bc he didn't have them at the station I was at. He looked at the adjoining station & didn't see them so just moved on. My nails lasted 4 days before I lost the first one and a few more came off in following days. Ridiculous! I travel for work & I have nail salons in the cities I spend the most time in & I can guarantee I won't be back here. Began" to make this my regular nail spot until I went there and realized they do your nails by having several people do your nails, which is fine, but when they are busy the wait and time to get your nails completed is too long. I have FINALLY found *my* new nail salon (cue the choir singing hallelujah). I moved to Delaware almost 3 years ago and have not been able to find a good nail salon. Every single one I tried the quality was terrible. My nails would become weak and break easily, or my gel manicure would chip within the week. I am so happy I stumbled upon Botanix here on Yelp! The reviews were excellent, and they are just a short drive from my home, so I figured I'd give them a shot. Boy am I glad I did! The salon is impeccably clean, and the decor is modern and consistent (basically it's not a dirty hodge podge like a lot of other places can be). I went before vacation so I decided to get a pedicure and gel manicure combo. For the pedicure - my water wasn't too hot, and the tech that worked on me was great. She gently guided my feet into place each step of the way, which I appreciated. I had a long day at work and just wanted to get caught up/lost in social media content on my phone. The tech who did my gel manicure was phenomenal. He did a very thin line of polish across my tips - to help the manicure last, he explained. It has been over three weeks and I only have a couple minor chips, that you'd never be able to detect unless you were inspecting my nails very closely. The only really noticeable difference three weeks out is the new growth in my nails! I chose a dark red and he did several coats to ensure color consistency, and they actually cured the polish for the entire amount of time they needed to - and then some. Not a single other salon I went to I think ever let it cure sufficiently. I did read a couple reviews that made a comment about needing cash. They do have signs up at the salon that state that for the convenience of the techs they accept payment AND tips on credit cards. Cash is appreciated though, and you get an extra "punch" on their loyalty card if you pay in cash. I have only been in on weekdays, and calling same day to request an appointment hasn't been an issue. Several reviewers have recommended calling to make an appointment. I think if you plan to go on a weekend, that's probably a good idea to ensure you get in and/or aren't left waiting forever. Lastly - I LOVE their hours. I work about half an hour away and don't get out until 5 p.m.; sometimes later. Botanix is open until 7 p.m. weekdays! If you are looking for your new nail salon, or in need of a change I HIGHLY recommend Botanix. Amazing quality, friendly staff, clean environment. read more

Wow!!! By far the best mani/pedi I've ever had. During my $25 pedicure, I got a little worried that I'd accidentally asked for an upgrade. It included a hot stone massage! I bite my nails terribly, and it makes painting them very difficult for the technicians. Queeny was so patient and did a fantastic job on my gel manicure. If I could give you any advice it would be to not go here. I went this afternoon noon with an appointment. Little did I know 4 other girls has an appointment and there's only 6 employees. I didn't even get helped till 30 minutes after my appointment. The only person who knows how to do acrylics is the only man who works there. Once helped each person was given a different task. I was filed by one lady, another put my tips on, another did my acrylic gel, and the last lady painted me. It was a nightmare. It's been 10 hours since I got home and I already lost a nail. Oh and yes I spend $60. There nail work is subpar but not worth the money or the time. Make sure you at-least have 3 hours before you book an appointment. Did I mention none of the tools are sanitized between use. Any other place in Delaware could do a better job with there eyes closed. Please don't go here. read more

So, I found this salon based on the great Yelp reviews. I felt that I need to leave a review! They remembered me and my name the second time I came in! That is something I love because you feel valued as a customer. They are usually good about taking walk-ins. When they get busy, it can take a while because they take their time with every customer. Calling ahead is recommended. I found that the best times of the day to go was during the week around 1-2pm. Andy is fantastic with shaping acrylics. All the girls are great with pedicures. Andy and his wife, Nu, are always looking for ways to improve their services. They buy new things like new powders, new gems, and designs to keep their inventory updated. They have become great friends of mine as well :) To keep costs low, they prefer cash or Venmo payment. If you use a credit card, there is no option to leave a tip on your credit card. read more

So I sat down and compared reviews on Google/Yelp/Facebook to about ten different salons in the area. The reviews here were so good and so accurate. The staff is kind and welcoming, the salon is clean, the prices are average but the quality is much better than anywhere else I have been! I've been twice - once for a full set of acrylics with gel polish and a basic pedicure... The second time for a fill in with a gel polish. I have scheduled appointments both times. The first time there was no wait and the salon was nearly empty. The second time there was a little wait and there were a ton of people there. Both times, I felt taken care of. Yelp says they open at 9:30AM. The sign on the door says 0AM which I assume means 10AM. I arrived at 10:03 and no one was there. About ten minutes later the owners drove in. Now I think I should've been offered some sort of discount for having to wait due to tardiness of the owners/staff, but I wasn't. However, I think they made up for it by offering exceptional customer service. The staff attended to me right away. The lady who did my pedicure did a great job. I loved how she took her time and paid attention to the details. She even used hot stones! The salon is pretty and clean. They have great color options and even showed me the newer stuff. Also, they have a loyalty program if you pay with cash. If you don't have cash they will take Venmo, and there is a Wawa across the street with PNC ATMs. Overall I was happy with my visit and wasn't too bothered with the staff being tardy, even so, it doesn't look good for the business. This is a hidden gem! I have tried at least 10 salons in the Bear Newark area and this is the best. Andy did a beautiful job on my full set. He was meticulous in making sure everything was perfect. The salon is clean, quiet and relaxing. The staff is very friendly and everyone greats you when you come in. A hostess, for lack of a better description, takes you to the colors and points out the latest colors. She checks on you throughout your service and makes sure you are comfortable. A standard pedicure is $25 but I chose to upgrade and it was worth every penny. It included a hot stone massage! I almost fell asleep.
