We visited Boru's new relocation on Essen, and it was busy as expected with their recent reopening. Although there was a 45 minute wait, we were able to take advantage of it and go play the claw machines to make the time pass by quicker. The menu was still similar to the old one, with some new additions to the appetizers like being able to order a small or large karaage, wong wings, takoyaki, etc. We ordered karaage and cucumbers to share, but they completely forgot to add any ponzu sauce. It seems to be a recurring issue with this app where there is always something that is missed, whether it be the sauce or a garnish. It's cool that they decided to merge/ combine sweet society and their new claw machine arcade all into one establishment, but the new dining space here honestly felt a bit claustrophobic, so it was difficult to comfortably enjoy ourselves. With that being said, I unfortunately don't see ourselves returning for boru, but possibly for dessert. read more

New location on Essen across from OLOL. Plenty of parking, seated quickly despite it being fairly busy for a Wed evening. Great friendly service. Wings were HOT (clearly just made), but a little bland for our taste (still good, and actually worked out well as my 3.5 year old ate them). The star of the dinner is definitely the ramen though, I had the spicy chicken and husband the pork & we both agreed they were delicious. Also we were able to stop by the arcade while waiting for our food which was a nice break. And got Sweet Society soft service after! Will definitely be back for ramen! read more

This place is so cute! I loved a speciality margarita that they had, hot honey yuzu. It was so delicious, as is the hot sake. I tried the rouge red chicken paitan, I wasn't sure how spicy would be so we got the spicy on the side, which is a great option to have. Turns out, not very spicy so next time I would just get it regular. Also our server recommended getting the fried chicken instead of the typical chicken that comes with the paitan, which I think was a great recommendation. Lastly, the sugoi fries were sooo good! The fries are so crispy and the sauce is very flavorful. We did ask for some extra spicy mayo on the side which was nice. I want to go here again to try the Japanese curry bowl next! read more

The place is nice, nice service, they have a large parking lot, seating area, and a mini arcade with claw machines. Back to the food, the food didn't have much flavor. First impression walking in. Clean, bright, busy atmosphere. They have a claw machine arcade in the back for the kids and young adults. We were seated quickly and the nice young waiter came almost immediately. Nice selection of Tonkotsu (pork) and Pairan (chicken) ramens. Also a good selection of appetizers. We had the Rouge Red Spicy Tonkotsu and the Chicken Parian. Appetizers was Wong Wings, crunchy buffalo wings with a bit of heat. A couple of tables were spacious enough for a large power wheelchair which is always VERY WELCOME! 8 wings were hot, well spiced and HUGE. Nice to see the old style big wings coming back. A little sauce would have been nice to overcome a bit of dryness, but they were good. Chicken ramen was like a premium creamy chicken noodle soup. It had cabbage, an egg, bamboo shoots and ramen noodles. Spicing was, well, chicken noodley. Nothing to write your girlfriend about. Spicy pork ramen was well, spicy. Black mushrooms, egg, and cabbage. Nicely spiced. If you're near Essen Lane and the OLOL Hospital and looking for some quick ramen. Or a fun soup place for the kids, Boru Ramen is your spot. Drove from New Orleans to check out the Claw arcade and enjoy the Ramen. The arcade was throughly enjoyed by both adults and kids! The staff at Boru was wonderful. They were all attentive and kind. Our waitress was prompt in getting our drinks and gave us a little extra time to make some decisions since it was our first visit. I had the black garlic ramen. It was fantastic. The pork on top was delish and the black garlic oil flavor was perfect. Our tabke also tried the chicken karabbge as a starter. I would highly recommend. The kewpie Mayo sauce served with it was a big winner. Over all our experince was great and we will be back. Everything was very good. The service was excellent. I went here solo on Saturday and it was packed. I went again on Thursday with a group of 6 and they quickly accommodated us and our server was phenomenal. The drinks were good, the appetizers were good, and entrees were great. I grew up in California spoiled with incredible Asian food so I was looking forward to trying Boru Ramen. The Ambiance is great and I love that it's combined with the sweet treats and game room. The service is excellent as well! I thought the chicken karaage bai bun was delicious but the pork bao bun was subpar. Frankly the pieces I received lacked any meat and was filled with fat. The chicken katsu was good, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce it was paired with. The ramen was decent. Specifically I thought the broth was flavorful, but it wasn't the high quality noodle and broth I hoped for. That said I still liked this place and would very much come back, I just think there is room for improvement. :) read more

The size of the bowls went down dramatically and the pork slices, they became TINY. how long will the restaurants keep on skimping on the portions. They should be held to the same standard as companies selling at stores ( remember shrinkflation)! Crazy how these restaurants are reducing portion sizes and yet charging higher than before prices. Don't even get me started about not paying their staff decent salaries and relying on tips to make the difference. The taste is still good but there needs to be some accountability. The rouge red ramen here is my favorite. I've always gotten the tonkatsu version but when trying a sip of my friend's chicken version, I think I'll opt for that one moving forward. The chicken broth isn't light and less flavorful as I assumed it would be compared to the creamier tonkatsu broth. The black garlic ramen is also nice but is lacking in that flavor so I've had to ask for additional black garlic oil, at an up charge. The texture of the noodles, egg, and flavor of the broth here is always great. It's the best ramen spot I've come across in the state with friends in nola preferring here to the options over there. However, I've been underwhelmed by the blandness and fattiness taste and jelly-like texture of the pork chashu time and time again. If it was braised more for color and that melt in your mouth texture, not to mention slightly salted or something, anything, it would be a lovely component to the ramen. However, often it's not worth eating from my experience. The service is always good- from the owner holding open the door, hosts, and servers checking in and refilling our drinks. One wish is that they would have other nonalcoholic or carbonated beverages such as different hot or iced teas. All in all, this place delivers on broth depth, good chew on the noodles, and the toppings are cohesive in flavor. The food came out quickly so it worked for an office lunch break. read more

Great spot for authentic Ramen. My favorite is the Kumamoto Black Tonkatsu. The broth has a rich, sweet garlic flavor. Anything you add to this dish just enhances the experience. I personally like to add MORE garlic (because as far as I'm concerned, you can never have too much) in the form of crispy garlic chips. I have never had anything off the menu I didn't like- wings, fried shrimp, drinks etc. All good. It does get busy around peak times like dinner rush between 6-7:30pm. So plan accordingly. Boru was my first experience of having ramen in a restaurant. I make it at home often but had never been to a restaurant to have it cooked by a chef. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. I enjoyed everything I ordered. Service was great, my waiter was quick and polite. The ambiance is inviting! Restrooms were very clean. I also love that it is connected to Sweet Society so you don't have to walk around to get to it afterwards when you want a little treat after your meal. I've been a lot of places and this Ramen spot may be my favorite of all the ones I've had in multiple states and Cities.

Boru Ramen is my new favorite ramen place in Baton Rouge! It's located in the Electric Depot, in a spacious contemporary and artistically decorated space. There's plenty of parking all around the establishment, and you can follow the handy signs to Boru. The interior has a glass booth where you can sometimes watch fresh Ramen noodles be made as you dine. The walls have Asian inspired murals which include a giant catfish, and a dragon. The friendly hostess will seat you wherever you would like then the helpful servers will come and take care of you. The appetizers are appealing, and include edamame both salty and spicy. There's a blazing pepper dish fit for a Chili Head. The chicken is very popular. The main attraction though is the ramen. All the varieties I've tried are great, and I'm eating my way through the menu. An exceptional choice is the Vegan Shoyu Ramen, which is made with some really good kale-based ramen noodles. This ramen is really flavorful without having any meat or meat broth at all. There is also a rice-bowl on the menu, but this is primarily a ramen house. Once you've eaten your dinner, I advise walking through the hallway in the back and visiting the Sweet Society for an Asian-inspired dessert. This is the way to make your dining experience complete. read more
