I can't wait to visit Ajun Cajun Ajain. What a wonderful find on a chilly evening! AC is a cozy corner joint over by Oak Street. I ordered the Champon. It warmed my heart and belly.

Ajun Cajun is a cool spot on Oak Street. I decided to give them a shot by trying their fried shrimp platter w fries & broccoli salad w a side of their Cajun sauce. The service was to the point you walk in order at the bar and seat yourself and a server brings out your food. Everything was fried perfectly the batter had a little heat from the pepper but it was good none the less. The Cajun sauce had a hint of sesame oil it was tasty too but I would've loved some tartar sauce which they didn't carry. Overall it was a good meal. I'll just bring my own tartar sauce next time.

This was probably the highlight of my food adventures during the visit to NoLa. My friend had a list of local spots to check out, and cajun japanese fusion sounded quite interesting so we gave it a try. As you make your way here, you'll be driving through a residential neighborhood and then arrive at a big house where they're located. They have a few parking spaces out back, as well as some tables setup under a tent outside. They're currently only doing takeout and that's why they have the tables available outside. We ordered a bunch of stuff, and we were all very happy. I had the cajun tuna tataki po boy which was wonderful and fresh, and also had the takoyaki which was on par with takoyaki I've had in Japan or other Japanese spots in the US. This place is worth going to even if you're just visiting as a tourist.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would. The ramen I tried was PHENOMENAL! I promise, it's the best ramen in New Orleans. The tonkotsu ramen here blows other area ramen shops out of the water. As a Japanese girl that appreciates good ramen, Ajun Cajun ramen tastes authentic. This comes with no surprise because this shop is one of the few Japanese restaurants in New Orleans run by actual Japanese owners. It's a must try spot for anyone who loves ramen! The ramen is as authentic to Japan as you can get in New Orleans. We tried the miso and the tonkotsu, and they were both fantastic! Taste-wise phenomenal, portions were generous, and the prices were very fair ($14). I loved the tonkotsu and can't recommend it enough, but my boyfriend loved the miso more. They cook their pork bones for the broth for two whole days here, so the broth is just packed full of that rich decadent flavor you need in ramen. As a side note, we also tried the oyako-donburi ($12). Delicious! Tastes like my grandma's home-cooking in Japan! General overview, this is a super cute casual space with cafeteria-style dining. Meaning, you order and pay at the counter and help yourself to drinks. They will bring the food to your table, but then you toss the trash and bring the dirty dishes to their bins yourself after you're done. I actually love and prefer it this way. (This might be how they keep their menu prices so reasonable compared to other Japanese places!) The space is decorated with tons of plants and lights for a cozy feel. It feels like a comfy day-time coffee shop, but they are open for meals only from 3pm to 9pm. I've been told the restaurant started off exclusively doing pop-ups at festivals, and they decided to open up a permanent location a few years ago. If it hadn't been for the pandemic, I probably would have heard about this spot sooner! This is a family-owned shop where you'll probably get to meet the mother/daughter duo. Momo (the chef) and Angel (front of the house) were lovely! My only regret is that I didn't discover this place sooner!!

I guess this review is very timely. I love "real" ramen, but so far this is only the third ramen place I have gotten to try in the New Orleans area. Of those three, one has gone out of business and one has recently switched to serving fried chicken. Oh dear. So how was Ajun Cajun? First, I'd like to mention that it actually has a parking lot, which is a nice amenity. It also had a couple of outdoor tables under a decent sized canopy, so I didn't have to worry about my shade vanishing halfway through my meal. Very nice. I got the pork tonkotsu ramen with added corn. It was so good! There was enough for two meals, and after each meal I was licking my bowl for every last drop of that broth. Will definitely be back.

The plant are impressive.

Excellent and very authentic Food. Home made curry beef rice is very impressive. Fries is very good too. Crab stick and cucumber salad is fresh. Environment: full of beautiful.

This place has excellent Ramen. You have to wait a little while, but the miso Ramen was worth the wait. I would recommend adding cashu, corn and an egg. No alcohol but that's OK.

Found this place by total accident. The ambiance is quirky yet homey. The service was solid and the food was prepared quickly. We enjoyed everything and had leftovers for sure. The portions are large for the price point.

WOW! Talk about a cool plant/ramen joint! The home cooked Tonkotsu was on point. We had both the spicy and regular. But the absolute best part was Chef! She gifted my husband the shirt ever! Thank you Chef!

I'm not going to lie - the name of the place and its sign outside kind of deterred me from visiting this place; it wasn't until my friend asked me to go did I finally muster up the courage to do so. And honestly, don't make the same mistake I did. First off, they have a parking lot. We know how difficult that is to find around here so that's a major plus. The server/co-owner(?) was really friendly and helped us choose what we should get. My friend got the ramen whereas I opted for the Yakiniku poboy and Cajun fries. Man, first off the Cajun fries are perfectly crispy and the sauce that it comes with is sooo good. He wouldn't tell us what it's made of, but he doesn't know how persistent I am. The poboy was decently sized and the meat has a garlic sauce (almost bulgogi like) and mozzarella cheese. It's definitely an interesting taste but I didn't mind it at all. I highly recommend the place if you haven't visited yet!

Well decorated Ramen place.

Best Japanese restaurant in town hands down. I have tried their tonkostu ramen, curry rice with Katsu, their miso ramen, yakisoba and udon. I have visited this place more often than i can remember and goal is to try every item in the menu. The meal resemble home cooked Japanese meal with a lot of flavor and amazing taste. Highly recommend this place and another bonus point is their items are very reasonably priced.

I had been to New Orleans since 1987 to attend JazzFest until my near death and rebirth in 1999…read morewith Celiac disease about 6-7 times. After I was diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance as a foodie I thought my culinary life was over and one of the many, but not only joys, of going to Nola is the food. I was reluctant to go and then a bit later 20 years ago Katrina hit this great city. When I did return my reluctance of going due to my food restrictions was born out, but the fact that the people in New Orleans fry everything, including water. Besides jambalaya and some fresh fish, I couldn't eat anything. However, due to a friend who was born in New Orleans, grew up in New Orleans and lives half of the year there with her family involved in the restaurant business, Pat introduced me for a number of chefs and one in particular, Michael Gulotta, who modified dishes or even made me specially dishes that were gluten free. Every time I went to New Orleans, I tried to go to his two Vietnamese Cajun restaurants, MoPho and Maypop. Michael Gulotta, chef-owner at Mopho and Maypop was born and raised in New Orleans. Michael began cooking in local restaurants at a young age. After graduating from the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, he joined the newly opened Restaurant August. Gulotta then took leave to train in the Italian Riviera and Germany's Black Forest. When Hurricane Katrina hit, Michael returned home to help rebuild and assist with August's re-opening. He was named chef de cuisine in 2007 and led the award-winning kitchen for six years, while establishing relationships with local farmers and purveyors. He opened his first restaurant, MOPHO, in January of 2014 with his brother, Jeffrey Gulotta, and high-school friend, Jeffrey Bybee. Located in New Orleans' Mid City, MOPHO was a true neighborhood restaurant and a destination for Southeast Asian inspired cuisine utilizing the Louisiana pantry. In its first year MOPHO was nominated for America's Best New Restaurant by Bon Appétit magazine and named Restaurant of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2016 Michael was named one of Top 30 Chefs to Watch in the nation by Plate Magazine, A New Orleans Rising Star by Starchefs, a Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine, and Chef of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2017, his team opened its second full-service restaurant, Maypop, in the Central Business District of New Orleans. Maypop was named a Top 5 Best New Restaurant by The Times Picayune, A Best New Restaurant by New Orleans Magazine, a New Orleans Top 20 Restaurants by Condé Nast Traveler, and a New Orleans' Top Ten Restaurants for 2019, by Brett Anderson. Michael has also been a semifinalist for The James Beard Awards Best Chef South for the past four years. Most recently, his team opened a second MOPHO location in the new Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. On my trip to New Orleans this past May, I was saddened to learn that Michael was closing MoPho and Maypop, casualties of the so difficult business of owning a restaurant I know all too well. After JazzFest one evening on MoPho's second to last day, Pat and I went to pay our respects and I got to thank Michael for his kindness showing me there was culinary life after my diagnosis not only at his restaurant but when he catered the main stage at JazzFest, but he also introduced me to more fusion possibilities which I have incorporated in some of the food I make. On the last day of Maypop, my brother Jeff and I dined at Maypop, Michael's more upscale joint which served delicious food and not to be undone, after both closed on that Sunday in May, I saw the MoPho at the airport right in front of my terminal to fly home and I got the greatest wings on the planet to fly home with: CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS WITH NUOC MAM CARAMEL. I have no idea what exactly that is except Cajun chicken spices with a Vietnamese caramel sauce that is unparalleled in it's flavor, bite and marriage of cultures that was so good Pat would always ask for more on the side. I'm sure Michael will get back in the game at some point but I write this with gratitude to Pat for introducing me to this great Chef and to Chef Gulotta for taking the time to show me what I could eat and what modifications he could make to his food for me.
