Pork Tkontsu Ramen and Spicy Ramen
    Max W.

I have been here multiple times and it is always top notch. It very well may be the best ramen in New Orleans. The pork tkontsu is delicious and has a rich flavorful broth, and the egg is always incredible. The ambiance is so cute with the hanging lamps and the services is always friendly and fast. Also the Yuzu lemonade was surprisingly good.

This place is AMAZING!!! The flavors are incredible. I was very impressed and will be making a trip back soon. The service was great, atmosphere is cool, and it's in a perfect location. If you like ramen, you have to try Nomiya!

It was 5 pm and after driving Lyft fares for seven hours straight on the Saturday after Halloween I felt like the walking dead and was in need of comforting. Then a voice in my head whispered Ramen and my life was saved. I used yelp to find ramen close to where I dropped and Nomiya on Magazine popped up and with good reviews flowering in my brain I drove there. Thankfully I got a decent place to street park and walked a short distance to the shop. The decor is colorful and the tables are spartan and clean. Service was Informative and quick. I would have a picture of the food but it smelled so good I dove in chopsticks first

I heard about this place randomly from some lady at a Saints game. Don't know how we got on the subject of ramen, but she said hands down Nomiya was the best in the city. It's been on my to try list ever since and it did not disappoint. There's a nice little inside space as well as outdoor seating. Sat inside as it was pretty cold out. Started with the edamame. It's been a while since I've had edamame cold, but it was very refreshing with the yuzu. For the ramen I went with the geki-kara at half spice. I asked if it was really too hot at full spice and the waitress said yes try the half spice before you come try the full. She was right. I added bata and corn as well as extra noodles. It was very filling and full of flavor. If you get extra noodles you easily have enough for another full meal of leftovers. It was spicy, but kind of sneaks up on you. It didn't taste overly spicy the flavors were amazing, but half way through my lips were stinging a bit and had some runny eye runny nose situation. Maybe one day I'll get crazy and try the full spice, but I think I'll stick with half on my next visit as well.

Nomiya has been on my to visit list for a long time!! Today was cold enough for my SO to agree to ramen so we decided to check it out. My SO ordered some edamame and I was a little surprised when it came out cold and with a sour punch, but a quick look at the menu told me it was supposed to be cold and it was served with salt and yuzu. For ramen I ordered the Geki-Kara "Too Spicy" half spice, and boy was I glad I got half spicy because it was spicy! I added some buttered corn and pickled greens. The broth was delicious and spicy, the pork tender, the greens tart and cooked down and the corn slightly sweet. The soy egg was bomb and I wish I had added another half egg! The decor is very colorful and fun! I can't wait to go back and eat some more ramen!

I finally paid a visit to Nomiya after years of passing it by on Magazine. I'm a huge Ramen fan and now that the weather is cooling down, it felt like the perfect time to go and see what the ramen was hitting on. It wasn't particularly busy on a Friday around 4:30pm so I was able to grab a table outside. There were a few others seated but service was quick, attentive and helpful. I was surprised how small the menu was but it also helped me to make a quick decision. I ordered the pulled pork bao and the "too spicy" ramen at half spice level with the corn, extra egg and pickled greens for toppings. The pork buns were really good and more filling than I was expecting. The ramen was yummy but was missing something that I couldn't put my finger on. It may have been the broth or maybe I'm just accustomed to other ramen shops. Overall, it was a pleasant experience but not my favorite.

Let start with the food. It looked like they shorten their menu by a lot. There are only 3 options for ramen with 2 appetizers: the pulled pork bao and edamame. The spicy ramen (full spice level) definitely hit the spicy craving I was having. It had a big chunk of meat inside that absorb a lot of the flavor. There weren't a lot of topping that came with the ramen itself beside meat, marinated egg, ginger, and scallions. They have other options as topping for an up charge, such as buttered corn($1.5), bamboo shoots($0.75), marinated egg($1.5) etc. I added the bamboo shoots and corn to mine without scallions. When the spicy ramen came out, it had about less than a tablespoon of corn with like 3 tablespoons of scallions. Alright, I understand the economy is bad and ingredients are hard to find, so the corn had to be $1.50. But damn you can't even give me at least 2 tablespoons or even a full size one? As for the scallions, I just assumed the server didn't hear me, so I picked it all out and placed on top of a napkin(there weren't any other plates around). Another server or an assistant manger came by and rudely said "ma'am you could've asked for without it." We did! That just ruin my experience. We already had another rude interactions when we had to ask for water cups at the beginning. The ambiance is cute though. It looked like someone painted the walls. There are about 3-4 booths on the side with more seatings on the opposite side. For the colder months, ramen are also good, because they have a few tables outside in the front patio. Overall, with their shorten menu, it doesn't put this place apart from other great ramen places like Union ramen and I Love Noods. This is my second time trying out Nomiya and it would be my last. I'm sorry but the rude service just out a bad taste in my mouth. I couldn't even enjoy the rest of the meal. Y'all used to have such good opinions too like a black garlic ramen and more boas options too.

The food was really seasoned and tasty. The broth wasn't salty. The food heated up really well the next day. We did dine-in service for lunch time and it wasn't busy. We were served in a timely manner. The wait staff was super sweet.

Great spot for ramen! They have a small menu which is easy to read. Nice seating both inside and outside (covered). Friendly staff and quick service. The ramen was very flavorful, good quality noodles and meat. The meat was very soft and melts in your mouth. I'd come back!

My first time trying legit ramen, and I enjoyed it! A friend took me, as it's one of his favorite places in NOLA. There was a little bit of a wait for two, but it didn't seem too long. The menu is almost exclusively pork broth and meat, so I had the vegetarian ramen. The vegetarian option was just fine, though, and so flavorful! I liked the quaint space in there, and the music added to the vibe. I would visit again, I just wish there were some more options for the folks that don't eat pork.

Service was amazing as soon as you walk in. The ambiance makes everything feel authentic and plenty of seating from outdoors to indoors. The menu options is limited compared to other ramen spots but it was good nonetheless. We tried the Kuro ramen which is more on the garlic side and if you're into spice, you can ask for the spice sauce on the side for an extra kick. The demon slayer sake is strong but goes well after a good meal. Left full and would go bag. Also, the location is on magazine so a nice stroll down the block would make for a perfect afternoon activity.

Fantastic service and delicious full-flavored ramen! The only thing that could make this establishment even better would be if they had capybaras to pet!

Do you need to show vaccine card to eat here?

    No you don't need to.

Are there any gluten free options?

No not at all. I'm gluten free and was told their broth was gluten free it was not

Vegetarian ramen yet? Lots of us out here!

Yes they have it now just not on the menu

    Are there any vegetarian options?

You can get edamame as an appetizer, but there are no vegetarian ramen options. I wouldn't recommend for vegetarians.

Hello can I order online somehow or in any way besides person?

They're really fast when you order togo in person. Think it took 10 mins tops

Do you serve alcohol? Or is there a byob option?

    Byob

Vegetarian option made it to the menu yet?

Not yet, still all pork broth

Is there a purely chicken based broth?

There are only 3 types of ramen bowls currently, they are all pork bone marrow-based and DELICIOUS. No veggie, beef or chicken options as of now.

Any chance you'll be introducing a ramen without pork?

No introduction of vegan yet. Pork ramen ordered 'half spicy' was delicious. Started off with a pork bun. Again, delicious. Service was attentive. Environment was minimalist trendy. Highly recommend this place!!

Any chance that they've added a vegetarian option yet? I'm dying for good ramen and have had amazing veg options in just about any other city I visit regularly.

I'm glad you asked! This is the #1 question we receive on the daily. At the moment, we specialize in a pork-chicken based ramen but are crafting a recipe as we speak.

After I was diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance as a foodie I thought my culinary life was over and one of the many, but not only joys, of going to Nola is the food. I was reluctant to go and then a bit later 20 years ago Katrina hit this great city. When I did return my reluctance of going due to my food restrictions was born out, but the fact that the people in New Orleans fry everything, including water. Besides jambalaya and some fresh fish, I couldn't eat anything. However, due to a friend who was born in New Orleans, grew up in New Orleans and lives half of the year there with her family involved in the restaurant business, Pat introduced me for a number of chefs and one in particular, Michael Gulotta, who modified dishes or even made me specially dishes that were gluten free. Every time I went to New Orleans, I tried to go to his two Vietnamese Cajun restaurants, MoPho and Maypop. Michael Gulotta, chef-owner at Mopho and Maypop was born and raised in New Orleans. Michael began cooking in local restaurants at a young age. After graduating from the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, he joined the newly opened Restaurant August. Gulotta then took leave to train in the Italian Riviera and Germany's Black Forest. When Hurricane Katrina hit, Michael returned home to help rebuild and assist with August's re-opening. He was named chef de cuisine in 2007 and led the award-winning kitchen for six years, while establishing relationships with local farmers and purveyors. He opened his first restaurant, MOPHO, in January of 2014 with his brother, Jeffrey Gulotta, and high-school friend, Jeffrey Bybee. Located in New Orleans' Mid City, MOPHO was a true neighborhood restaurant and a destination for Southeast Asian inspired cuisine utilizing the Louisiana pantry. In its first year MOPHO was nominated for America's Best New Restaurant by Bon Appétit magazine and named Restaurant of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2016 Michael was named one of Top 30 Chefs to Watch in the nation by Plate Magazine, A New Orleans Rising Star by Starchefs, a Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine, and Chef of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2017, his team opened its second full-service restaurant, Maypop, in the Central Business District of New Orleans. Maypop was named a Top 5 Best New Restaurant by The Times Picayune, A Best New Restaurant by New Orleans Magazine, a New Orleans Top 20 Restaurants by Condé Nast Traveler, and a New Orleans' Top Ten Restaurants for 2019, by Brett Anderson. Michael has also been a semifinalist for The James Beard Awards Best Chef South for the past four years. Most recently, his team opened a second MOPHO location in the new Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. On my trip to New Orleans this past May, I was saddened to learn that Michael was closing MoPho and Maypop, casualties of the so difficult business of owning a restaurant I know all too well. After JazzFest one evening on MoPho's second to last day, Pat and I went to pay our respects and I got to thank Michael for his kindness showing me there was culinary life after my diagnosis not only at his restaurant but when he catered the main stage at JazzFest, but he also introduced me to more fusion possibilities which I have incorporated in some of the food I make. On the last day of Maypop, my brother Jeff and I dined at Maypop, Michael's more upscale joint which served delicious food and not to be undone, after both closed on that Sunday in May, I saw the MoPho at the airport right in front of my terminal to fly home and I got the greatest wings on the planet to fly home with: CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS WITH NUOC MAM CARAMEL. I have no idea what exactly that is except Cajun chicken spices with a Vietnamese caramel sauce that is unparalleled in it's flavor, bite and marriage of cultures that was so good Pat would always ask for more on the side. I'm sure Michael will get back in the game at some point but I write this with gratitude to Pat for introducing me to this great Chef and to Chef Gulotta for taking the time to show me what I could eat and what modifications he could make to his food for me.
